Excellent Dentist. Good service and good price! My friend introduced me to Dr. Camtu. I had a pretty complicated case between saving a tooth or doing an extraction which would require an implant. We were able to save the tooth. Dr. Camtu was very detailed and patient. She explains all the steps when she is working and very diligently removed the existing crown and repaired my tooth. I've been going to Dr. Camtu for years for regular teeth cleaning and I've always loved the service that I've received here. However, a recent experience that impressed me very much was what finally motivated me to write a review. A few weeks ago I fell and chipped my tooth. I immediately called in the next day to ask if I could be scheduled in that day for a last minute appointment to get my tooth fixed. The receptionist gladly accomodated my urgent situation and fit me in for that morning. Dr. Camtu and her staff gave me a fill and my tooth looked as if it had never been damaged! I was in and out in under 30 minutes as well, so extra points for the fast, yet high quality service. I've been going to this office for checkups and teeth cleanings annually since 2002. There is a reason why Dr. Camtu has earned my loyalty. She is incredibly detailed with my assessment of my teeth and always gives good advice on what I should do. She is always gentle and takes her time in making sure she does a thorough job of cleaning my teeth. Every time, I leave the office, I always make sure to schedule the next appointment since I do enjoy coming back. The office has had a facelift in a new staff. I was given a reminder phone call ( as I requested ) the day before and greeted promptly at the front desk when I arrived. During teeth check up and clean up, I was serviced well by Dr. Camtu's assistant. She did a good job polishing my teeth after cleaning and answered all questions I had asked her. I've subtracted a few stars after returning to Dr. Nguyen's office as a cash patient paying for dental cleaning: -1 star: the wait time. Although I made it a point to arrive 10 minutes earlier, I had to wait 30 minutes before Dr. Nguyen came to see me. -1 star: poor service. Dr. Nguyen didn't even ask how I was or when my last exam was or anything which convey that she actually cares about her patient. -1 star: Dr. Nguyen went to two other patients while cleaning my teeth. I hope she changed her gloves. Overall, I'm very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. I felt like I was in a Chinese restaurant rather than a medical office. Next time, I'm looking for an older dentist who doesn't over schedule and like to take their time to care for their patients instead of someone who is just in it for the money. I've been a regular patient for the past few years, just never thought about writing a review on yelp. Dr. Cam Tu is very professional, thorough, and caring to her patients. She's a really funny Americanized Viet lady. She really knows what she's doing and does a really good of cleaning your teeth. One thing though, I really don't like the lady at the front desk. Her name is "Ly", she's a horrible receptionist that will call you like 5 times a day, call your parents, aunts, sisters, cousins, whatever just to remind you that you have an appointment the next day. Seriously annoying. But it sorta makes sense because Dr. Tu is very popular with the vietnamese population, especially the older people probably because of the location. I still go back here every 6 months for my regular cleaning and try to ignore the mean receptionist lady. If you're looking for a good dentist (and if you're scared of pain), go to Dr. Tu, only if you're willing to deal with that mean lady (and pick up her calls right away or she'll dial everyone you're related to if she has their number) read more

I had a very bad experience with the dental in Salinas not very nice or friendly did not know what they were doing over charge, not honest, not kind, not gentle. I do taking good care of my teeth go to the dental 2 time a year. When I went to see Camtu the first time She diagnosis that I has a bad teeth. I was shocked! She went out of her way to help me out with the problems. She's incredibly gentle with me also given many advice how to taken care my teeth at home until my next visit. I believe the good Dr should be recognition from all her patients fairly not because of the front desk one time bad experience. The staff here is very friendly and attentive. I come to see Dr. Carrie who is here on Tuesdays and Saturdays and she is wonderful, gentle, and amazing! So happy she is my dentist and provides the utmost care and professionalism. Also, Dr. Camtu is always bubbly and nice to talk to. I highly recommend this practice. First off, Camtu is the best doctor in this house! They lost stars from my last couple visits. Yes, the front desk lady loses her temper at you when you come in early or if you need to reschedule. Here's my customer flow experience: 1. Setup an appointment for teeth cleaning 2. Gets 2 voicemails the day before appointment saying that I need to call them back to confirm I'm coming. 3. I end up not calling back because, I AM COMING IN 4. Come in to get my teeth cleaned and they asked me to come back in ASAP for filling replacements because they're old and they ''NEED'' to be replaced. 5. Supposedly, the front desk said I was good to go and that they will call me to setup an appointment. 6. Setup another appointment by phone during my busiest hours at work. Had to reschedule the week of because I'm also in school and a team project-meeting came up that day. Got yelled at front desk lady for not letting them know earlier-- In Vietnamese btw. 7. Come in and get only half of what they were going to do to my teeth done. Left my 2002 fillings alone although "I NEEDED THEM REPLACED" because they're old. Only replaced 2013 fillings. Here's my phone call experience: 1. Got a phone call the day before along with a voicemail. 2. Got another call the day of my appointment and called back to confirm that I was coming in. Prior to this, Camtu said that they were going to backdate my new filling replacements to the previous cleaning visit above^ 3. When I told the front lady that I know my insurance is expired because I left my job, she replied with "So when do you want to re-schedule?" which, didn't make any sense. 4. I told her my situation again that they are going to backdate my visit today with my insurance, she replied again with, "So who is your new insurance?" I said, "I'm not working anymore, so I won't have any this month hence, the backdate the doctors promised me." When I was talking, she didn't understand and kept asking me when I needed to re-schedule. That's when I lost my marbles and said, "Please, listen to me, I will not have insurance and the costs today will be charged on the day I came in for a teeth cleaning." She hung up on me. 5. I called right back, and she said she hung up because it was too noisy and couldn't hear me. #@#!!????$!!$ 6. I said, give me someone else to talk to please. Front desk lady said, '' There's no one you can talk to right now so they'll have to call you TOMORROW'' WOW? Really??? So they rather have a miss appointment for the doctors than try and get someone on the phone to resolve it. After more back and forth, she finally said that Tina was going to call me back. 7. Tina calls me back and says, "Hey, how are you what's going on? The front desk lady told me you're mad because you don't have insurance?" %@#&##%&@ I replied, "No, it's not my problem with not having insurance, it's the lady that can't understand me!" 8. Tina eventually tries to explain what I had explained to the front desk lady and came to an agreement so that I can FINALLY come in. But for some reason, when I was trying to complain about the lady at the front, Tina asked to hold so that she can put me on SPEAKER PHONE ?!?!@##^$&$&$& Are you CRAZY? Why would you want to put anyone complaining on speaker phone at a dentist?! Let your patience hear? Sure. Why not. I was nice enough to say, why would you want to do that and let your customers hear what I have to say about the front desk lady? Anyway, I feel bad for writing this but I think future patients or current patients can have a piece of mind. And for my teeth, I'm glad they helped me out by backdating my filling refills but, they did HALF the JOB because they ran out of time! I didn't request for this nor the backdating. Tips if you come here: 1. Ask what they need to do when they ask you to return and which teeth are being worked on. By this way, you know what you're getting done and what they are charging your insurance. Example: If they charge you for re-doing 4 fillings but only completed 2, this is ripping off your insurance money because they will charge them for 4. 2. Know which procedures need to be done, if necessary. I know I'm not an expert, but one time I came in, the new younger doctor told me that my teeth look amazing and that my wisdom teeth don't need to be extracted. When I came in other times, the other assistants and doctor said I need to remove them ASAP. So it was confusing information. I kept denying I needed them done nor do they hurt, and they finally stopped asking me to come in about them! LOL 3. If you don't like phone calls, ask for the front desk lady to EMAIL you instead of call and harass you and your voicemail box all week long to make sure you come in. Save the phone drama. I asked Camtu this and she said that they do offer email instead of calls. Originally, the front desk lady said that they only can call. 3 stars well deserved. Thank you Camtu. read more

If you don't want to read another long review, here are the main points: UNPROFESSIONALISM, RUDE & MONEY-HUNGRY STAFF, LACK OF ATTENTION/EXPERIENCE, LONG WAIT TIME. Going to this dental office has always been one of my worst nightmares growing up. Painful visits. Long waits. Unfriendly employees. I can still remember the horrid times I used to go here.. "You or your brother first today?!" I felt like we were being drafted for something.. The wait was ALWAYS long. Whatever time you're scheduled, you'd be seated at least 30 minutes after, then once you're seated, you'd wait around for at least another 15 minutes until anyone starts anything on you. They take forever to finish the x-rays. They'd choke me and scratch my gum trying to put those film thingy in. Man, I never realized how much radiation went through me after all those retakes! In addition, the dental hygienists were so ungentle and seems like they do not care about the patients. The fillings they did on me, my mom, and my brother have fallen out a few times within a year. Sometimes when they numb you, they don't wait long enough and rush into doing stuff so you can still feel the pain.. Also they'd rarely ask about how you're doing and talk to their colleagues' while performing services on you. The moment I graduated college and landed on a real job and was no longer under Medi-Cal insurance coverage. I was finally able to escape. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was because my family and I respect Dr. CamTu (a distant relative), but she's rarely at the office now. Don't get me wrong, Dr. CamTu herself is a nice and experienced dentist, but her staffs are HORRIBLE. I don't even know where she hires these people and how thorough she interviewed them. It seems like there are always new dentists at this place every year. As many people have mentioned, the finance lady/receptionist (whatever her role is called here) is awfully unprofessional and rude. She tries to drain out your insurance money and get in as much money from you as possible. She schedules as many visits as possible and always rushes you to pay. She rushes you to sign papers before you ever had the chance to read them! She talks down on you because your family is low income and can't easily afford these high dental charges. My goodness, is she a receptionist or a salesperson? Did she take any Communications or Customer Service classes? My mom is mentally ill so normally I'd speak on her behalf. (She still goes here because she's one of those people who don't like changes and just stick to what they are used to.) Recently we found out that she needed root canal and crown(not covered by Medi-Cal) for her teeth so unfortunately I had to pay that big chunk out of pocket..The receptionist constantly called me about my mom's dental procedures when I was working and driving. After the whole root canal/crown situation last month, she said my mom just needed her usual cleaning and a few fillings then she's done. All of a sudden today, she randomly decides to have a deep cleaning(not covered by Medi-Cal) done and calls me while I was at work to demand for more money. Why wasn't this mentioned or even noticed the past five visits if it was that necessary? Why didn't she discuss and ask me first if they can perform the procedure on my mom when they obviously know my mom is incapable of these decisions? I honestly don't trust this lady and she didn't even give us a chance to get a second opinion yet. Consider yourself warned if you've read the negative reviews here. I definitely agree with all of them and that's another person to confirm this office's lack of worthiness. I have been to 2 different dental offices after this place and my experiences have been SO MUCH BETTER. I honestly never knew going to the dentist didn't have to be a dread until I moved on. This place even skimps on little goodie bags too! Back then they used to give out cheap/generic brands. Now I guess they've upgraded to decent brands but rarely will they give patients anything. My other dentists gives me stuff every visit lol. There are kagillion of dental offices to choose from in San Jose with people who actually care about your dental health, so save you and your family/friends the troubles and avoid this place! My whole family went to her and she was rude and bitchy. She's very shady, just want money from her patients, regardless of who it is. We came back a few times for my parents' dental work but she kept on urging us to hurry up and pay out of pocket because we're an inconvenience for her time. After the dental works, she tried to sell the mouth rinse for $15 there that could have been purchase for less than $10 at any pharmacy. Taking about being hella shady. She was also rude to my parents, giving no respect for the elders. Just because my parents can't speak English well doesn't mean we can't go to another dentists. If you care about your health, please read this and don't come. I started coming here around 2010 since I used to live close by but I will never ever coming again. After all these years, I think I'm done. Here are my reasons: OVEREXPOSED TO RADIATION AND UNDER TRAINING: - I came for teeth cleaning but my back teeth did ache a little so the two assistants told me to get x-ray done just incase. The older one walked away and the younger one stayed. Without an exaggeration, she took about 10 photos of my teeth! She kept doing it wrong over and over again. I raised my concerns and said "I don't want to be exposed to radiation this much. It's really bad for your health. I told you I'm mainly here to clean not to fix anything. I don't want you to take photos anymore. I'm also taking a lot of chemotherapy medication.. my other doctors warned me about not being exposed to radiation". All she said was "oh really? let's do one more then. Last one". - The older lady came back and told her "why did you use this method? it's so much harder and take longer. We just need this and this. Next time use this ok?" and the younger girl said "oh ok, well I know it's harder but I thought..." -.- OK OBVIOUSLY SHE NEEDS TRAINING. I should have known when I saw how YOUNG she was. The older lady should have stayed and showed her! My TEETH ARE NOT FAKE for you to keep taking pictures of constantly. I was so mad at that point because I know they ALWAYS overbook clients so that's why the older person was super busy running around. I felt like I was being USED for them to train the younger one. Her training should have been done in SCHOOL. FAKING THE JOB TO GET PATIENT OUT EARLY: -The older lady also "polished" my teeth -- 1) she did it SUPER fast 2) she wasn't even really looking at my teeth, she was just touching my teeth so I won't complain about my wait 3) she polished my teeth before the dentist came to clean..... after I got my teeth done, the dentist said "ok! The last step is to polish your teeth! I'm done". LOL Basically my teeth barely got polished. UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF -The finance lady is very unprofessional. She will call you, and call you, and call you over and over again. Leaving several voicemails to make you make an appointment and not miss your appointment. They constantly called while I was driving or working so now they're texting me too! I was 2 min away from arriving and they called again. I picked it up because I know if I don't, they would call AGAIN. I was so mad and got distracted.. I missed my turn. INSURANCE MONEY: -Overall, they don't care about you. They only care about taking insurance money. The finance lady was RUDE and mean to my mom one time because my mom didn't have enough insurance money. She was mad because she thought my mom went somewhere else to get her teeth done and came back.. but my mom said she didn't check thoroughly. It was HER that took a whole chunk out. The only reason why I am giving this place two stars because I do like Dr.Cam Tu. I just can't deal with her unprofessional staff members. I have been going to Dr. Camtu Nguyen for at least 15 years as my primary dentist. I believe this is long enough to write a fair review about her. I wish she live closer in town for me I have to drive over an hours from Salinas to see her three times a year for my special need for my teeth. Trust me she is the best I'm willing to drive that far to see her. My kids and family love love her. When I am choosing a dentist it is a decision I do not take lightly. Dr. Camtu Nguyen can see me as a patient for life. I have dental anxiety it does not make me a big baby. I am traumatized from dental experience from shots that are dreaded by everyone. Dr. Camtu understands my pain and her skill and magic hands can make any shot feel less painful even pain free. She is the best all these years, she always listen to my concerns, educates me about my dental health, always be there for me and my family.
