So good, and piping hot. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Sergio brought us a complimentary vegetable soup to sample, and the we were offered dessert. I fully intended to pay for my meal and continue enjoying the evening. The situation only became an issue because the staff repeatedly asked why I hadn't eaten the dish. I answered honestly and respectfully each time. When asked whether I wanted the meal boxed to take home, I clearly said no. Despite that, the dish was boxed and brought back to my table anyway. What should have been a simple matter of personal preference became an uncomfortable experience. Ignoring a guest's clearly expressed wishes made me feel dismissed and embarrassed in front of the friend who was dining with me. The problem was never the fact that I didn't enjoy one menu item--it was how the situation was handled afterward. After my visit, I sent a respectful letter to the manager and both owners explaining exactly what happened. I wasn't seeking compensation--only the courtesy of a response and the hope that the experience could serve as constructive feedback. More than a month has passed, and I have received no acknowledgment whatsoever. Restaurants occasionally miss the mark on a dish. What distinguishes great hospitality is how guests are treated when that happens.
