We used to come to Cancoon when it was located in a smaller location down a ways from where it stands now. The new location is quite the upgraded from the tiny modest digs this place used to occupy. But the food remains the same. We really love their Tom Yum Goong (hot and sour shrimp soup), pad thai, panang curry, and fried rice. But the dish that really hooked us was the deep fried fish filets in spicy/garlicky red sauce - plar sam rod. Oh my stars we love this dish! It is so tasty and is great eaten with rice. When we've finished the fish, I take the remaining sauce and eat that with rice...it's that good. Service has always been friendly and efficient. And at the end of your meal they will bring you each a small serving of a coconutty tapioca ball dessert with corn and taro. Sounds a little odd, but dang it is so freaking good. While the service was on par, Pad Thai was not as expected. The atmosphere was pleasant. There's ample parking.

The server was really nice and thoughtful. Portion size was good and the flavor of the food was delicious. Only downside was the fried wonton barely had any meat it was about the size of dime inside each wrapper. Authentic Thai restaurant in a small, but not impossible parking lot. Not gonna go into my usual details but some dishes were hits and some were misses. Food comes out in moments. As in, you'll be eating and then waiting and then there are moments you wonder what happened to your missing dish. As for ordering, you just really need to focus on their appetizers and their coon special. What I really liked here were the following: Tod Mun Plar (Fish Cake) Super delicious. It has all the flavors of Thai embedded into this one dish. Make sure you dip it in their sauce. Esaan Sausage -I don't know of a sausage I didn't like. No really, it's quite good. Plar Sarm Rod-Fish and sauce were excellent, portions were not as good as I thought. Never got rice with it. Yum Plar Dook Fu-Quite a different dish I've never had. It's a puffy fish dish that were in pieces and pieced together, then fried to perfection. Again, thought the portions were not quite that great. Their Tapioca pudding-OMG, it's free. Just make sure you get it early. As in when you order. I find the following not as good: Chicken Satay- their chicken is paper thin, find it a little expensive though the flavors were spot on. The peanut sauce was super thick. Their pad see ew and pad thai. They were good, but more like average good. They have the usual Thai flavors but for some reason, I was expecting more. Nice little hidden gem in Bellflower. We came here because our Thai friends live close by and took us out for dinner here. We constantly got refills on our water. (The cups were small) It seems that there was only one person who took the order and served the dishes. I really think if there was another person, the experience would've been slightly better. Because there was a positive part to this experience. We ordered Chicken/Beef chowmein. Very tasty and not overcooked. Equally portioned on the meats and veggies! Spicy Angel Wings!! That's what they call them. What I remember is that they were Crispy, Sweet/Tangy and fresh. Today they were sold as if they were cooked yesterday. This place has been the most consistent Thai food in the area. I'm telling you we've tried them all in the Downey/Bellflower/Cerritos/Norwalk areas, and over the past 5 years Cancoon has been the one we fall back on. The waitress was friendly, friendly informative, and welcoming. She made sure I had everything I needed for my meal. The food was so good. It tasted delicious. TASTY YUMMY HOME COOKING Let's start by saying TASTY, love the food. It's family own and worked. I had forgotten about this place. I used to live near it about 20 years ago. My husband and I wanted Thai food , didn't want to travel on a Thursday night after work. This gem cam to mind. I am not sure if it's the same owner from back in the day. This was good food cooked with love. The daughter is so sweet, hard working and kind, she just smiles no matter how busy the place gets. Her husband is very nice as well. This is a family owned restaurant that's been opened for years. The 1st time I've tried this place was about 12 years ago, and it was delicious then and still now. And the food is obviously great since I have been a loyal customer. This yummy little restaurant is located in a small shopping center on the corner of Alondra and clark. The outside might not be pleasing to the eye but once you walk through the door, there's a good earthy vibe and a greeting with warm smiles. With that said parking can be a bit tight at times but you can just park along Alondra. Got the pad Thai and it had a hair in it. The pad Thai tasted very acidic almost soapy. Also got the Larb and it was very plain

The location and cuisine for the restaurant may have taken over reviews for the previous business located here (also a Thai restaurant). Your Yelp sort should be newest first. Just had a late dinner with cousins Wednesday and my verdict: everything is so under-seasoned! The menu states ISSAN style, so not sure whether the other Thai flavors I've had are another region or specialty. For these dishes, it was a choice of shrimp, chicken, pork or beef: Pad thai: a sad melange of very bland overdone and broken rice noodles, lacking flavor, even with addition of table condiments ( marinated peppers or red pepper flakes) and lime. Shrimp was good, and not overcooked. Chinese style chow mein: lots of thick egg noodles that were also under-seasoned, and served with a disproportionately small amount of vegetables. Beef with cashew, bell peppers and onion - flavor was okay, but beef was very sparse. I had so much left over veggies that I need to cook a piece of pork chop at home to consume the remainder. Crab fried rice : no chunks of crab, but tiny shreds of it - pass me some salt please. Seafood soup - sour and okay, but just lacking depth of flavor or heat (I know we asked for mild but really, too mild). Lots of fish, shrimp, mushrooms, and tender quid - This one was okay, better than everything overall.
