I had a highly disappointing experience with Cancun Mexican Grill while staying in a hotel in Chippewa Falls. I ordered very overpriced fajitas through DoorDash, only to receive them without shells. When I called the restaurant to resolve the issue, I spoke with someone claiming to be the manager who shockingly blamed the DoorDash driver for supposedly taking the shells. This was absurd and unprofessional. I requested a refund since we couldn't eat the fajitas without the shells, but the manager eventually said they would deliver the shells within five minutes. They never arrived. I ended up ordering shells from Walmart delivery because I didn't want to take my young granddaughter out in the cold. To top it all off, the fajitas were utterly flavorless--I've never tasted such bland Mexican food before. This place is definitely not worth the money or hassle. Avoid at all costs! read more

A nice local Mexican restaurant helping to spice up the cuisine in the Northwoods! Cancuns has stayed solid since I was a kid. The food is nothing fancy, but tasty and filling. The flavors and dishes are more on the Tex-Mex side of things than authentic Mexican, but I'm not sure the average customer in the Chippewa Valley would want that either. I went with the enchiladas mexicanas on my most recent visit, wanting to get some variety of meats and cheese. They hit the spot and got me ready for the flan, the real star of the show. Cancuns goes for dressing things up with whipped cream and a cherry on top, but the flan itself was delicious. Honestly caught me off guard how good it was and definitely a dessert I'd order again. On a road trip from Wisconsin to home in southern california (oceanside ca).stopped for lunch. It was so bad. Chips were stale store bought . The beef in the quesadilla was out of a kenelration or alpo can . Disgusting unless you never had real mex or text mex. Save your pesos muchachos y muchachas . Also, I wish I took pix, no toilet paper rolls, in restroom, but 2 3' pieces taped to the side of the stall. Not even in Tejuanna would you see that. read more

Travels took me into Wisconsin for the weekend, and while making the trip, the GPS recommended Cancun Mexican Grill. Of course, I quickly Yelped to see what folks had to say... and I found nothing! Time for an adventure my friend Kristen said. The place sits next to a Chinese Buffet (the scent of Chinese food almost stole us away from Cancun, but we were determined!) Once inside, there was plenty of space. It was a nice interior, split off into a couple sections. Plenty of room for a larger party or if you just want to grab lunch with a couple friends. Our waiter brought bottomless chips to our table (with a thin salsa and some sour cream dip). We quickly spotted cheese dip on the menu and placed a large order. Between the white cheese dip and the ranch dip, we barely touched the salsa! (it wasn't bad, it just wasn't very flavorful, and certainly not as good as the other two) I ordered the chicken burrito and Kristen ordered a steak burrito. Talk about portion size!! I didn't need to eat the rest of the day - although, I sure could have used a nap! ;) The chicken was flavorful and moist, the beans and rice were standard - but what really stood out was the sour cream. Wow. Just like their portion sizes, they were generous with that too. And it was really good sour cream. Not too thick, so easy to spread over the entire burrito. Yum! Kristen's steak burrito was a little dry on the ends, but she enjoyed the entire platter as well. (we both enjoyed a little bit of white cheese dip drizzled over the rice and beans... yowza, what a great combination!) I snapped a couple pictures as we were leaving to upload to Yelp. A bunch of "best-of" awards hung on the wall over the cash register. With those kinds of awards, I was surprised not to see other reviews. Oh, and one interesting thing... Tons of Polaroids werre hung up all over the place (birthdays maybe?). I mean, literally, full walls of Polaroids. Hmmm, wonder who sells film anymore? ;) Overall, great food. I took off one star as our service was lackluster. It's a pet peeve to sit with an empty soda through the entire meal. Although, maybe that was a blessing, considering we had another 4 hours ahead of us on the road! My favorite place for Mexican food. My favorite is the chimichanga. Chips and salsa along with their white dip are an automatic table food to eat while waiting for your main dish. I have ordered for pick up and like that even though I am not eating at the restaurant they still bag up chips with salsa and the white dip to enjoy with your mail at home as well. The Good - fast - ok food, sometimes really good - easy to get to - cheap - noise level is not to bad The not so Good - It's hot table mexican for the most part - put tortilla of choice down, spoon in food from the hot table pans, sauce from the hot table pans, add beans and rice from the hot table pans. - Service is very focused on flipping tables. I called ahead to order and was very specific and clear in what I wanted to pick up- a veggie burrito with extra salsa. I arrived in 20 minutes at exactly the time I told them and low and behold no burrito in the "system". The servers ignored me for 3 minutes walking right by me, the bartender didn't understand me, and then they were rude when I asked what happened to the order. We have been here many times and we noticed things starting to deteriorate lately. The last time we were there on 7/12/22, the server was awful. We would tell him we needed something and he would walk away and chat with the other staffers. My wife had to go up to ask for a refill and later to get her sour cream. Its a solid place to get food in chippewa falls . Best homemade chips with salsa around . The food is spiced down for the simple taste buds of Central Wisconsin so if you like spice do not you'll have to ask for it . However no other Mexican spot in Chippewa can come close to as good . read more

I have always enjoyed the food at Cancun. However today I got the lamest taco salad I have ever seen. The shell had hardly any lettuce and the filing barely covered the bottom. Also no sauce was given for the chips when it was specifically asked for. I really hope today's experience was an anomoly. read more

Cancun has been our favorite for years. We ordered last night and it was horrible! We had a double order of chicken fajitas that was packed with peppers, onions, and tomatoes...and MAYBE 1/4 cup of chicken. It was $24 for a pile of vegetables. It had no flavor and the chicken looked like those frozen bags of cooked chicken you reheat in the microwave. We also had a single order of chicken fajitas with only peppers...and AGAIN received a pile of peppers with almost no chicken! An order or Burritos Deluxe made my son-in-law so sick with diarrhea he had to go to bed. My son's tacos had about 2 tablespoons of beef in them. To top it off, they bagged everything up so that it leaked salsa and other foods all over the bag. And the bag had a hole in it so it leaked in my car and all the way into the house. I paid $80.25 for a meal I would have gladly paid for in the past but this was awful. Never, ever again! Such a disappointment! If you're looking for good Mexican food, try Casa Mexicana or Azul Tequila instead. Don't waste your money on Cancun if you want to avoid an expensive disaster like ours! read more

Came here for dessert and got deep fried ice cream which was delicious. Service was quick. My mother in law got the nacho supreme and there was definitely nothing supreme about it. They were disappointing and portion sizes we small for the price. The Flan was delicious though. Great desserts. Not sure about the regular food. The service was good. I was in Chippewa for a work trip and the co-workers brought us here. Surprisingly, in the location - I didn't expect too much but for Chippewa to have this little gem, not bad! Definitely a place to check out if you're looking for some decent food in Chippewa. Big space, decent food, good service. I love their burritos, but a few changes to the menu should be in store. I understand coming from Cali, the Midwest does their own version of Mexican food, however, I would like to see them make their shrimp cocktail a spicy tomato-base (Clamato/ketchup) vs. having a plain water base and adding the ingredients. I do not like that there were a few shrimp around the ring of the glass and that was it. I would like an authentic shrimp cocktail for what they charge ($11)-portion was right, but flavor was off. In California for this price they make authentic shrimp cocktail, so why can't the Midwest? The "grilled chicken salad" should also be differentiated from the regular garden salad. I was expecting Romaine lettuce and got BROWNED iceberg lettuce for $8.49. Basically they gave me a garden salad and charged me $3 extra to add the grilled chicken. Casa Mexicana is better with flavors, and is better at getting Mexican right. read more

Nothing special here. Food tastes like typical generic americanized mexican food. The kitchen likely makes use of the microwave... often. Next to my 2 seafood burritos was a huge pile of lettuce with a spoonful of sour cream on top. Is this supposed to be eaten? Why are so many mexican restaurants doing this now? When I got there they were closed/closing but they let me in and I tried to tell them that google maps says there open till 10, but instead of listening they kept talking over me asking what the name for the order was. While very cheap, the food just isn't that good. Chips are served with tepid salsa and a strange ranch-dressing like white sauce. Very little flavor in the lunch dishes. At least they have a good selection of hot sauces on the table. The service is fast, too. read more

We have two little ones and this is a great place for our family, it is not too quiet so the kids can make some noise, the food comes fast, and the kids love the chips and salsa (and so do we!). Absolutely horrific service. The server handed my sister a scorching hot plate and only said "I hate giving people these plates because they are USUALLY are hot" and never said that the plate was hot and proceeded to handed it to her. She scalded her fingers to the point that she is unable to use them due to the pain. To top it off, her food was cold. She needed to put ice and a cold (DIRTY) towel on her fingers. When we brought this up to the staff they never apologized and still made her pay for her food. They basically tried to ignore us. When we asked to file an incident report, they just kept saying they couldn't help and we needed to talk to the owner who was apparently in Mexico. We called the Eau Claire location and he was there. Similarly, he didn't apologize and said to just send him the claim because he has insurance to cover that. This was the worst mexican restaurant we have ever eaten at! They had a Margarita special. When I asked how many ounces the small, medium & large margaritas were, she had to go find out. When she came back, she had a complete attitude. The tortillas for the cheese quesadillas were doughy, the carne asada, both medium & medium well were like shoe leather and tasteless! I'm sorry, I hate to disagree with most of these reviews. In my opinion, when a Mexican restaurant can't make soft shell, corn tacos using corn tortillas there's a real problem. I used to go to this restaurant at least twice a week. The service was wonderful, heck they even used to know my order and that I was on a constricted time limit on my lunch break. Over the last 9 months I rarely go there. The service has gotten so bad. Today was the second time, I got up and left after sitting there for over 5 minutes without being greeted and the chips just thrown down on my table. When I first walk in and the workers just look at you and then back to the television until someone from the kitchen comes out and finally seats you in one of the dingy tables in the back. Only to not get any service. Keep in mind it was not busy. The other time I got up and left was last fall, I did get seated there were about 5 tables of people in the entire restaurant (this is at supper time). I didn't get any chips, no one greeted me but two of the servers were having sword fights with the menus in front of me. Another one just stood at the host station. While I sat here, I wasn't there for a sword fighting show, I wanted some dinner. I got up and left and went to the other Mexican restaurant in town, much more mature and respectful. read more

I have typically had average-to-above average experiences with the Cancun franchise. However, this past weekend I had one of the most ridiculous experiences of my life. My extended family and I were at a park in Chippewa Falls and called in at 6:25 to order dinner (4 adult meals and one children's meal). I was told my food would be ready in 15 minutes. We arrived at Cancun at 6:45 to pick up our dinner; the hostess looked shocked to see us, but charged us and told us it would be out in just a minute and to have a seat. I said I'd rather not, as my husband and child were waiting in one car and my sister's boyfriend & dogs were waiting in the other (and it was 92 degrees outside). After 10 minutes of waiting, I asked again where our food was; again I was told it would be right out. My sisters and I decided to sit down, thinking it would be just a minute or two. We were so wrong. We saw numerous tables be seated, order, AND get their food without ours coming out. Meanwhile, my son is now extremely upset about being locked in a car seat for 45 minutes and my sister's dogs are starting to go stir-crazy in her little car. I ask AGAIN where our food is and the hostess disappears into the back, only to come out another 10 minutes later with our food (did she make it herself?). I was not offered a discount or any other form of compensation, despite not getting our meal until almost an entire hour after ordering. When we finally got home, all but one of our orders was wrong (and my son's was so spicy [obviously not the child's meal we ordered]) that I couldn't even eat it. We will not be returning there for our business, and instead will be visiting the smaller, local Mexican food restaurants. read more
