My mom brought me to Candle Light Bakery to try their cupcakes before ordering for my baby shower. I choose the horchata based on the reviews and the oreo flavor to take home and try. After trying it, I dont know what the big hype is. The horchata cupcake tasted more like a banana nut muffin and the oreo tasted like it was made from a box recipe. Tried to special order a cake by phone, a 10 inch round napolean which is something to write home about. But I wanted a special design instead of the plain kind with white frosting. Awesome desserts and pastries!!!! Many of their cakes are topped with fruits which are alway fresh and it is the perfect complimentary to their fluffy cakes. My suggestion is the Napoleon cake - white sponge cake, crispy wafers in the middle, vanilla frosting, and assortments of fruit toppings. The fruit pieces are dipped in sweet syrup which makes it better as they do not taste bitter or sour. Many of their cakes comes in variety of sizes and the prize does jump high from a small to a medium. They offer to write a message on your cake for free of charge. The cupcakes are okay, their not as flavorful as the cakes. I love the cookies especially the butterfly cinnamon and wedding cookies - both sweet and crunchy. The shelf life of the cakes and cookies I recommend for 3 days, longer than that they become chewy and the cakes soggy. Luckily, I have never encountered bad service they all were helpful and quick. They do have a number system at the entrance when it gets busy, however they never seem to follow the numbers in order they just assist random people that are standing in front of the counter. There is also a notepad where you write your name to be called next, I do not get the purpose of having two ways to call who is next - it just causes confusion for customers. If you need to order a cake or place a huge order I highly recommend coming right when they open as cakes do run out and you will not be rushed. The wait is quick from when you grab your number, and if you know what you want to buy it'll take a matter of 5 minutes and you are done. I like that they are open on most holidays which is great if you need to bring a dessert for your party. read more

I had low expectations of this place but went because it was the only bakery in town showing up on Yelp. Got a single size chocolate ganache cake (price was $11 which I thought was really pricey for the size but I wanted a very small cake for a 1 year old child). Fast forward to cutting the cake and it's delicious! Wow ! Not too sweet, light and airy, not dense at all. I definitely would come back, it earned its price tag. Got the horchata cupcake which was $2.50. Small, and again pricey for its size. Tasted fine, but probably not worth the price. I would like to try more things like the tres leches cup, but prices are somewhat of a deterrent. They have one of the best cakes in town. Try the chocolate fudge cake, its so soft and perfectly moist. The perfect balance of sweetness and texture. They can be disorganize at times especially busy hours but the quality makes up for it. I haven't tried their drinks or other bakeries but I am sure they are good. read more

Pretty good. Barista is super friendly. The rest of the workers.. not so much. Macarons are decent.. but not the best. Guava cheese roll is good. Not as good as portos but whatev. Eclairs are surprisingly good! Lattes are awesome. Pecan custard is kinda ew. Do not get this. It's terribly tasteless after the third spoonful... Wouldn't go out of my way for this place. But if you're in the area and desperate for a decent latte, go try it. Coffee code in buena park is probably the best closeby latte place but they don't have pastries. So, i am changing my previous rating of 4 to a 2. I have to say that the last couple of times that i have been to this bakery, i have been very disappointed. In April, i ordered a cake for my son's first birthday. To order the cake, it took about 20 minutes (just to speak with someone). To PICK UP THE CAKE it took me about 30 minutes PLUS another 20 after i gave them the pick up slip. Seriously? Last week, i went in to pick up a cake for a family member...of course..to simply pick up was a 30 min wait plus another 15 after i gave them the pick up slip... YESTERDAY, i went in for A COFFEE and there was a full house. I had to WAIT over 20 minutes for a cup of coffee?! Forget it! I left. The system here is..."take a number." pick up, make an order, get a simple pastry, get a coffee....get a number. They always have about 4 staff people running the front, but they all seem confused, slow and not well trained. This is not a place for casual desserts or coffee. It takes way too long to get helped and the help, when you get it, is ridiculously slow. There are always people standing around, frustrated. They definitely need to rethink how they service their costumers. Standing around for 30 minutes with other frustrated costumers is NOT the way to start your party day. The pastries and cakes are good, but not worth the wait and frustration. I am not sure why they have become so bad in the last several months, but i am so disappointed. I was so excited to have a "modern" bakery in our neighborhood, now, i unfortunately prefer to go to Starbucks down the street. read more

I have been going to this bakery for 10 years now and they have always had great desserts and customers service. In the past, I would have rated this bakery a 5, but it looks like a change in personnel has made this place from my favorite bakery to me never returning. I ordered a chocolate cake for my niece's bday and chocolate cupcakes for my nephew's bday. The bakery no longer does decorations with fondant and only print pictures on top and they still charge the same prices as fondant decorations. When I picked up the cake, it was salty and I had to throw it all away since it was inedible. The following week, I picked up the cupcakes and informed them that the cake was salty and I had to throw it away. Customer service was horrible. I did not expect a refund or credit, but minimum an apology or acknowledgement on the error. Not even acknowledgement was given and the employee was rude. I picked up the cupcakes and left. The cupcakes were also salty, but at least edible. The bakery declined in taste and customer service. I will not return. read more

What's the point of getting a custom cake if you can't make it? The requests were simple from color to just having pictures printed and even her scanner supposedly broke. If I've ever been loyal to a bakery, it's Candle Light. I stumbled upon this lovely little bakery back in 2002, and have been coming here for everything from custom cakes, cookies and pastries to coffee and tea. It's honestly the cutest bakery, even if it's often hella packed. But I'll take the crowds as a testament to the quality of products they're cranking out. This is little bakery, located on the corner of Studebaker and Norwalk in the Buy-Low plaza, was brought to life back in '94 and was a one man show. Now they've got THREE locations AND a brand new baby in Cerritos -- oh what's that? you didn't know that Bakers & Baristas was brought forth to life by the same owners as Candle Light? Learn something new every day ;). Anywho, this bakery has been my go to for quite some time now. And here's why. Quality. Product consistency. Flavor. holy shizz-nizz, all of that is wicked important right? Now how about delivering that when you've got 20 plus customers crowded in the tiny area, waiting to be called up to the other side of long display cases, with a wall of orders waiting to go behind you. I imagine that's extremely hectic, so the fact that I've never been helped with anything but a friendly attitude and a smile, another winning point. Plus, the prices are way fair too, compared to most bakeries. While I don't usually rose cakes for events (Batman and I are capable bakers and do them ourselves lol), I do come here when my sweet tooth is calling. The customer service here is pretty top notch, the girls almost always are smiling and friendly. Some days I come in not knowing what I want, and the employees usually recommend something that perfectly fills my cravings :) The location is pretty small, and often times packed. but the lines moves quickly, as long as you remember your number. no number, no service. The decor is minimal, rustic red brick, adorned with one a cute "Life is Sweet" sign hanging near the door, and cakes on display in the large windows out front as well as the walls inside. There are a few 2 seat tables, but most people just grab their goodies to go. The wall to the right of the entrance has their coffee bar menu, and the counter in the back is for cake orders :) I love how large and bright the displays as some bakeries have dimly lit cases that make it difficult to see the products. Their displays host mini cakes, their larger cakes, and a ton of pastries, and cookies. Anyhow, I'm usually in and out of here, because i like to take my treats home and enjoy them while watching a movie, so the small seating area really isn't a big issue for me. I've tried a bit of everything, and i definitely have a few favorites here. The tres leeches cup (with or without fruit) is my go to because it's good for a few servings since I don't eat a ton of it at once. The cake layers are perfectly moist and delectable. The whipped cream is thick, and just the right amount of sweetness, without overpowering the cake. When i opt for the fruit topping, the slices of mango and kiwi are visibly fresh and the grapes nice and plump. Their cupcakes(horchata and cookies n' cream) are booommb! The cakes are moist and rich, without crumbling apart when you bite into it. The horchata cake has a lovely cinnamon taste that doesn't drown your tastebuds with the spices. Cookies n' cream is duh - chocolate w/ a cookies n' cream frosting and an piece of white chocolate with oreo crumbles on top. LUUURRRVVEEE because Oreos are my all-time favorite haha. The frosting totally tastes like the cream filling, but not dry, and way creamier. They have a variety of thumbprint cookies that i love to get for when i spend a night on Xbox because they're decent sized and you get a few for $1, so also inexpensive (^_^) The cream horn is delicious, as well as their strawberry nutella danish! nom nom! As for their drinks, i really only get their horchata frappe, and the Silver Needles tea on ice, and both are friggin amazing. Try them, and be happy. Candle Light is by far one of my all time favorites, and as long as they keep my tres leches cup, i'll keep coming back hehe. My daughter and I tend to go to the Candlelight Bakery in South Gate. This past Saturday I decided to purchase my sons and moms Birthday cakes at the Norwalk location since the South Gate location is currently closed! The young lady who assisted me was very rude not only with me but as well with the lady who entered after me!!! It is a small place located in a small shopping center on the NW corner of Rosecrans & Studebaker next to a discount grocery store. There is a great Mexican restaurant located on the other side of the grocery store by the way called Rancho Grande...just sayin'. This has been our go-to place for the last few years when we want a quality cake for a special occasion. Will you pay more than say a place like Costco, well yes. But the extra money will all be worth it when you take the first bite. The staff is friendly and hard working. The interior has a simple, stylish design but it is very small and it can seem crowded with not even that many people in there. The small parking lot in front can get packed but there is more parking behind the grocery store. We haven't tried anything other than the cakes. However, if you are looking for a well done cake and are somewhat close to this place you would be foolish not to give this place a shot and if you do you will probably become a loyal customer, too! read more
