Order a cake the other day for my GodDaughter's 1st Holy Communion.. I wanted something simple and pretty and this cake did it all.. I went to pick the cake up and the color was a bit off and Erica was very understanding of my feelings and was insistent on making sure I was happy.. She called over Carmen who was very kind and talented.. She went over what wanted to change and grabbed the cake and made the changes is less than 10mins!!' I have been coming to this bakery for years Im for a y pastry emergency. Today is the last time I will ever step foot in that bakery let alone refer it. I picked out pastries And the woman who attended me was a little annoyed that I was taking my time picking them out and when it came down to check out I have a card malfunction she gave some kind of story about the back having to approve the manual input so i suggested her to go ask. It was denied okay fine. I asked for the nearest ATM she pointed one out for me I went came back only to find out that she had already placed all the pastries back. Wow!! I've been a loyal customer since this place started and their cakes and decorations (which are not the best) have doubled in price!! So sad when owners get greedy. The only thing worth going for here now is the napoleon...don't get it decorated either...it's way overpriced. They even got rid of their barista to make a latte. Smh. Disappointed. I love the cakes, but today I had a bad experience! I preorder a cake for pick up at 10:00am. I was outside before 10 just like everyone else! I'm usually patient and don't complain, but today I was in a rush, they opened and there was a girl who was hitting down names for pre orders, she took my info. Yet, I literally stood outside the door for about 30-40 min while everyone got serviced, I went in to ask why I was still waiting, and they told me they wrote down my name for something else! Their pastries are good. Nothing extraordinary. It's your typical bakery. My daughter isn't a fan of cakes so it's hard to celebrate her birthday without one but here at candle light they have a cake that she happens to like. Its the "tres leches" cake. This cake is good because it's not as soggy as other tres leche cakes. This is the only cake I come to this bakery for. I've tried their other cakes and they are just too dry and too expensive. I went into Candle Light based on a MAJORITY of the reviews. Quickly upon entering, I came to discover that my eyes had become bigger than my stomach. I wanted to sample everything. However if I dont watch my figure, then I risk my husband not watching my figure so I maintained. I order a chocolate cake with Oreo filling... It was SOOOOOOO good. We loved it. My only regret was I bought the smallest cake. My family loved it. I will be going back for more. Even if its a cupcake to calm my sweet tooth. I just stumbled upon this place while in the area. Haven't tried the pastries yet, but the coffee bar is worth visiting! The barista there did a great job making my cappuccino and pour over. This will be my go-to coffee shop while in town. They had Four Barrel in the hopper and Heart Coffee Roasters as a pour over. The barista definitely knew what he was doing. If you're looking for light, fluffy, and not overly sweet cakes, Candlelight is a great choice. Their Napoleon cake has a a bottom layer that is very light. It isn't overly sweet and the fruits are pretty fresh, considering I got mine at the end of the day. I've had the Napoleon cake from Porto's and I personally prefer Candlelight's because it's not too dense. I think they also have the best Oreo cupcake. I like how the frosting is so fluffy and light that I don't mind eating all of it as opposed to other cupcakes where the frosting is so sweet that I'd have to scrape off the top. I will always go back for these. The red velvet cupcake has the same consistency as their Oreo cupcake but as a red velvet, I expected it to be a little heavier and have more texture... It was good, but not what I expect for a red velvet. The horchata cupcake... Hm, maybe it works for some people but I didn't really like the taste... And I love horchata! Plus, the one I had was dry. Overall... Oreo and Napoleon is the way to go for sure. read more

I WAS RIPPED OFF I came in to candle light to order a cake for my niece late September. First of all I waited for 45 minutes to order the cake. Secondly, the cake was over priced but I had no choice since my nieces birthday was just two days away. They charged me $80 for a small oval cake. It was simple just white and plain from the outside, filled with strawberries and peaches, with vanilla bread. The girl said that is the lowest they could go on the price. The day I picked up the cake, the employee (manager) working there was so rude. She saw me walk in first and helped someone who came in after me. 1 month later... My sister ordered a cake for my nephew. The cake was supposed to be chocolate with strawberry and peach filling. It even had a nice design and my nephews name. They only charged her $40! FINALLY... When it came to cutting the cake we noticed the cake was not CHOCOLATE but VANILLA! How dumb can you be... it was so simple. CHOCOLATE CAKE CHOCOLATE CAKE! How can you get a small ass cake for 80 and a big one for $40 and then make my cake vanilla when we said CHOCOLATE! read more

There's a person in the back hollering directions to the customers suck as, "If you need this, go here, if you're ordering go here, if you want this, stand here." Almost seems like there needs to be an algorithm for customers to view once they enter. There was only one person taking cake orders, which is fine I guess, due to staffing on weekends... but the lady in front of me took 40 minutes to place her order while I waited, watching so many other customers get served. If I could choose negative or F, I would. My husband purchased a small cake and wedding cookies on 4/14/19. I had given my two kids a cookie and had one myself. These were my favorite until, I was about to eat another and much to my surprise a HAIR was sticking out of the cookie it had to be baked with the hair! Too top it off it was for sure a pub hair! Disgusting!!!! I went the next day returned the cookies and complained the manager apologized and gave me 5 dollars back because according to her there was nothing wrong with the cake. "Sorry only the cookies had hair" she also said they do everything possible to avoid these situations. Hmmm... if that was the case the employees would be required to wear hair nets. How about giving this place NO STARS!! Thanks to the spoiled fruit on the baby shower cake, to the poor girl Cynthia who had to pretend to be a manager and couldn't manage anything but to piss me off! And lastly to the mysterious owners who only receive emails. According to Cynthia the staff nor herself are allowed to call them and especially not on Sunday's! I'm a returning customer who came in to place an order for a cake (1hr wait time to order). The day of the baby shower around 5pm picked up the cake, cut it, and unknowingly served all my guest spoiled cake!!! It was terrible you could noticeably smell the bitterness in the fruit. The next morning I called and explained my situation to Cynthia, the so called manager and her reply was that they made many cake that same day and no one else has called or complained about the canned fruit being bad. So she suggested a picture or a piece of the cake to show proof. So like she asked i took a piece so she can say that by a piece she meant like half the cake! Then she accused me of possibly lying about it to receive my $78 refund!! (Hahah! Unbelievable) after the embarrassment I went through at our party and being insulted I asked for her boss or the owner of the bakery and I was told that I had to email them because her boss (the owner) doesn't receive calls or contacts customers and she's not allowed to call them. As a manager she wasn't able to approve refunds of any amount. Had me take in proof of the rotten cake for no reason. Her manager position authorized 20% off a coffee or pastry! Lol she read my mind when she said I'm waisting my time because she can't refund me. Very disappointed with this business. We tried Candle Light Bakery for our special wedding cake. The initial impression was great... we had a tasting session that we enjoyed. We chose the cake and personalized it as we wished. All was good till they mistakenly gave us the wrong base cake size. Based on their word, we purchased a decorative stand that the cake would sit on. After spending days, time, gas and money to finally find and customize our personalized stand, we were then told, by an employee that the measurement of the stand was too small and that the base size was bigger than they initially told us. Our stand was basically useless. Now, being that we were definitely frustrated due to the long effort it took us to get the now useless stand... I understand that people make mistakes. I asked to speak to the owner, since the employees at the bakery were unable to make it right and were unauthorized to make any decisions. Well, the owner wouldn't even take my call. "They're unavailable", I was told... "she said there's nothing we can do"... like seriously?! We just spent over $600 at your business, spent another $175 on a stand we built based on your information and you guys can't take any ownership in order work with us to make it right? These guys are scumbags... everyone here pretends to understand, but no one can do anything. I would've seriously have been content with an acknowledgement of their wrong doing... maybe a little discount or a knockoff the $80 delivery charge (the venue was only blocks away, same city btw). But no, we couldn't even get the coward owners on the phone. One of the worst and insincere establishments I've ever dealt with. Thanks Candle Light Bakery, thank you for leaving us hanging and for creating a stressful situation that could've easily have been fixed. I was given about 5 hours lead time on a Monday afternoon to come up with a bowling themed cake for a birthday party that same evening. I. KNOW. To be honest, I'm not much of a themed cake type of person. I'm more of a 'go to an Asian bakery and buy what's available' type of person and every bakery I called was either closed (apparently most bakeries are closed on Mondays) or they scoffed at the idea of producing a personalized cake on the same day- most places claimed they needed anywhere from 2 days to a week's prior notice to do something like that. After going down a list and growing more frustrated by the minute, I came to Candle Light Bakery and gave them a call. Even while making the call, I was already resorting to having to probably get the cake from Albertson's or Costco so wasn't really expecting much when they picked up. "Hi... I need a bowling themed birthday cake by tonight... Is there any way you guys can do this?" "Bowling? OK... Yea, we can do it." At this I almost fell out of my chair. "Really? A bowling themed birthday cake? You can make one? By today?" "Yes. Just give us about 2 hours." Whoa. When I arrived at the bakery 2 hours later full of anticipation, I became a little worried when I saw the cake... It was a sheet cake(Tres leches with strawberry and pineapple filling) with yellow roses, "Happy Birthday So and So" written in the corner, and a panel of what looked like wood-colored cream cutting across diagonally which I figured was supposed to be the bowling lane...But where was the beautiful frosting design? The bowling ball? The bowling pins? Anything to make it look even remotely bowling themed? I didn't know what to say, I was so worried by then when the cashier asked me "Is the birthday person a girl or a guy?" I thought this was a weird question but replied "A girl... why?" The cashier disappeared into the kitchen and came back holding what looked like a bag of toys... Upon closer examination, I realized it held little plastic bowling pins, a plastic bowling ball, a plastic girl figurine in bowling stance, and a plastic hamburger, french fries, hot dog, and soda can... OMG. I couldn't help giggling. I don't know why but it just seemed really hilarious. I was so amazed that a bakery could produce a personalized, themed cake in such a short time, I never really considered ways to cut corners and use things like plastic toys to decorate it... I just assumed it'd be designed into the frosting. It was kitschy but I like kitschy sometimes. The cake was decorated with all the plastic toys and candles and when it was brought out later that evening after dinner, people grinned, the birthday girl was happy, and in the end it was fine. Oh, and the cake was pretty good too. Any bakery that can produce a bowling themed birthday cake (even if it is with plastic figurines) on such short notice is a 5 star in my book. I was a little disappointed to see an extremely long line when I was reassured there would be 2 separate lines, one of those lines specifically for people that are just going to pickup their cake. It's now 12pm and I'm barely about to get to the front door because of the insanely long line there was. An hour and a half wait just to pick up a cake that was already paid for. This is ridiculous. Dear Candle Light Bakery, (The Owner) I ordered a Cars-themed cake (the tractor tipping scene) for my son's birthday party 3 weeks in advance. I advised Cynthia (the person who took my order) that I will pick it up on March 30th at 12:45 PM in addition to already paying for the whole cake. When I arrived at 1:00 PM, I was told it wasn't ready yet and to wait 15 more minutes. I left to go back to the party terribly upset. My husband went back to pick it up later after I call to make sure it was ready. My husband asked for an explanation. Your employee's reply was "That's person is not here." So let me explain how this should work. If you know that you will not have the cake ready by 12:45 PM, you give me a courtesy call to explain the reason and tell me the time that I should come and pick it up so it can save me my precious time and gas. I will be okay about it. That's why you ask for my phone number on the order form, right? I really like your napolean cake, which I ordered last year for my son's 1st birthday party too and want to continue doing so for every birthday party to make it into a tradition, but because of this incident, I am never doing business with you again. It blew me away on how my cake turned out, I was so impressed with the cake so much. It was almost picture perfect from the photo I had sent them. Oh and did I mention the cake was just as good as it looked? you event made my sister so happy as well. The only reason I went there is because my sister loves your cakes and now I do too!
