Outstanding small business to support: I cannot say enough about Sugar From the Heart Bakery and its owner, Krista. She truly went above and beyond for me during a really meaningful moment. I reached out last minute hoping to order two dozen mini cupcakes for the ICU staff caring for a close friend's mother. Not only did Krista accommodate the order on such short notice, she personally handwrote my note and had everything ready for pickup right when the shop opened the next morning. The cupcakes looked absolutely delicious, and more importantly, the ICU staff genuinely appreciated the gesture. It meant so much to be able to support my friend and her family from afar, and Krista made that possible with such care and thoughtfulness. During a very difficult time, she provided a small but meaningful way to say thank you to the people providing essential care. That kind of service is rare. Zucchini cupcakes! And they're gluten free! And they're probably the best cupcakes I've ever had hands down, even including all the majority of cupcakes I've had in my short lifetime (wink wink) that are full of gluten. The zucchini must make them naturally moist and they stay moist for days--if they aren't eaten on the first day we buy them. My family has enjoyed cupcakes from Sugar from the Heart for 10+ years. They've stayed consistently delicious and the quality has never wavered. My oldest daughter is my peanut butter lover so her go to birthday treat used to be their chocolate peanut butter cupcakes and even though she still loves them the zucchini cupcakes have surpassed them. I think the zucchini cupcakes have a brown butter frosting that is this cupcake's perfect partner. It really seems to be a family run business. There are two young men who might be one of the owner's sons and they are both friendly and kind. Like their mother. Multiple cupcake and other types of cake places have cropped up in the vicinity over the years but my heartfelt opinion is that Sugar from the Heart is still the best. read more

My family loves this establishment! This is our go to cupcake shop and my family is happy every time. We regularly get cupcakes for little family celebrations. We have their regular cupcakes and seasonal ones, which are always tasty and really cute. When my daughter turned 1, I ordered a cake, macarons, and cupcakes. The process was easy (all online) and the list of cake options were pretty good. My guests especially loved the cupcakes. BEST BAKERY Customer service Ordering Pricing Needed a simple cake for a birthday so I went to their WEBSITE it said to email for cake orders so I did. It has flavors and sizing so I included that in my email and asked if they could make it similar to a photo of something I liked online. I called their bakery to get a quick idea of how many days for response time they were super helpful. I got an email that night confirming that they did have availability and would take my cake. I checked my email for the invoice at the end of that day and paid it. Cake was delicious. BEWARE. I'm taking the time to write this because the customer service was HORRIFIC and I'd hate for others to experience what I did. Worst I've ever had. Please read the other negative comments. They're legit. I experienced exactly what others experienced. Tried ordering a custom cake for my bday. Emailed 3x with questions about flavors and to bounce a few ideas. No response. So I called. The lady greeted me on the phone as if I was the biggest nuisance. I couldn't even ask all my questions because she immediately urged me to get off the phone and email instead. She said everything's via email. Ok, so I email....Finally get a response with fragmented sentences that felt confusing. So I email again- no response. Next, I called. Someone new picked up. She said I see your email...(but fails to resolve my question on the spot. Just delays again and says call back on Friday if I don't hear from them). I receive the email response, however, it's another fragmented and confusing response. The email also proceeded to say "Are you sure you want to order from us?" I couldn't believe she wrote that. It felt like any question or confusion I needed clarification with was viewed as a nuisance. OF COURSE I want to order from you! I've been chasing you to get an order confirmed for weeks! I'm thinking at this point: Do you even want my business?? Do you even want my money?! So I call on Friday to try to better understand the confusing email she sent, but the voicemail says they're closed (WTF?) Why did the employee tell me to call on Friday if she knew they were going to be closed. So I leave a voicemail marked as urgent since my birthday party is next week and I've been CHASING them for my cake order for the past 2 weeks, hoping someone will call despite being closed. I get a call - and the first thing that comes out of her mouth is: "No, you're the one that's confused. I know my cake flavors. I was very clear in my email. You're confused." It was extremely combative: her words and tone. I couldn't believe my ears. Of course you know your flavors and how everything will be prepared and look, however, I DON'T because I'm a new customer and I don't know your process. Every bakery is different. That's why I need communication and clear direction. Don't assume I know how everything is going to be made. Finally after getting clarification from her, she says, "ok, I have your order, I'll send the invoice." I'm expecting an invoice as soon as we get off the phone or within the hour. I'm ready to give her the money to confirm my order. At this point, I'm sick of feeling anxious about whether I'll have a cake or not, so I'm eagerly ready to hand over the money and move on with my life. Nope. No invoice the entire day. From other experiences, other bakeries always accept the down payment immediately. Standard protocol and excellent business practice. But nope- reached out again for invoice nearing the end of the day and no response. I went to bed with looming anxiety of "Ok...Do I just trust that her verbal confirmation is good enough and I'll have a cake or is my cake order with no paper receipt or down payment confirming it going to end in total nightmare and I won't have a cake day of..." Finally, I went here on Yelp to see if others experienced what I experienced. Upsetting to see I am not alone. I cancelled my order. I wasted 2 weeks with this bakery and now I probably won't be able to find a bakery to do a custom cake with the limited lead time at this point, but I'd rather have a Ralph's cake than give this bakery my business. GO SOMEPLACE ELSE unless you enjoy chasing down a business for WEEKS, feeling anxious about whether you'll have a cake or not and getting non-existent communication and then made to feel like a pesky nuisance for needing basic customer service. Please work on your communication and customer service. As a customer, we need clear guidance especially when we are excited about getting a custom order for a special day. Placed an order for a small wedding cake about 2 weeks before the date. I got a speedy response and they were so accommodating given that they were closed the week we needed the cake and traffic made us late for pick up. My mother and I liked their cupcakes so much we visited twice in one week. The flavors we tried were cherry, chocolate chocolate, s'mores, funfetti, red velvet, lemon, brown sugar zucchini, and root beer float. I love the buttercream frostings at this bakery, they're not overly sweet, and the texture of the cupcakes are the right amount of moistness. My absolute favorite was the red velvet with the cream cheese frosting, and I'm looking to try the other flavors next like their carrot or strawberry. The staff is also very approachable and patient. This place really knows how to make deliciously moist and flavorful cupcakes. I went in recently to get a variety of cupcakes so that my little one could select the flavor for his cake. All the flavors were amazing! The winner ended up being the zucchini cupcake. I know...we were surprised! And he made it known that one was his favorite. We were excited because it had the least amount of sugar compared to the others offered for the taste test. The other flavors were very good as well. I called Krista, the owner and I told her I needed a cake to feed 70 people at a BCI Cycling Club dinner, She said " I can do that and I'll deliver it to you! This is the first review I have left because I am truly disappointed. First off communication was horrible, went into the shop to talk to someone and wanting to bounce ideas off and they employee couldn't even look at me in the eye when talking and handed me a business card and said just send an email. Okay I send an email and have to constantly reach out multiple times and ask if there's a number I can text or call to start the process going of having a cake being ordered. So communication finally starts over text which is great and I have sent over a Pinterest inspiration picture of a very simple but cute cake ideas for my son's first birthday. This was about 2 months before his party so the shop had time to prepare but what I received just kinda looks like it was thrown together last minute. The cactus's are extremely sloppy looking and the wrong color and the size of the rope detail is so large compared to what I wanted from the photo. Thank goodness I had cute extra boots and horse decorations to make it look nice. Another red flag was that after confirming my order they don't send over a contract, you have to just assume that they will remember your order. With only 1 week left to a small birthday get together I decided to go with a custom made cake. Not only were they nice enough to reply to my inquiry being completely booked for the weekend but they also took the time to hear me out on what I was in need of, as my cake was not a detailed theme cake.
