This review is mainly for their pastries, since I also haven't tried their cakes in a while, but presumably those are still good. Every time I've gotten a pastry from here in the last 5-8 years they have slowly gotten more and more dense lol. I only ate one pastry, but this pastry had maybe 100 solid layers and I feel like I just stuffed my self at KBBQ... I miss old soft pastry. I used to love their pork sung pastry too, but now it's a pork sung dense bread with a pastry blanket on top. Ahhh I grew up with this bakery having the traditional Chinese birthday cake (soft fluffy white cake with light frosting that's not too sweet) where the strawberries are layered inside and topped with fruit. They've been around for 40 years and we decided to return on a whim (it might've been like 20 years since then) and try the slice of strawberry and mango cake. Oh my lord it's as good as I remember it. We ordered one for Thanksgiving (don't worry we'll still have Costco pumpkin pie lol) and it was a big hit. We got mixed fruit on top (kiwi, peaches, blueberry and strawberry) to appease mango haters but honestly they're both amazing. Great little bakery we almost didn't discover! It's located among a somewhat deteriorated strip of stores with a parking lot. We were going to eat at a restaurant a few doors down, but they weren't open yet so we decided to check out the bakery. At first I was unsure if it was even open for business, but hubby said it was open. Upon entering, I saw a few cakes and other baked goods. There weren't a lot of options, but what they had was well stocked. This is a no frills sort of place. No real decor and no seating inside. The lady who helped us was friendly. TIP: CASH ONLY!! A guy brought out some fresh bread and we asked what kind it was. He told us it was Raisin Coconut. It seemed unusual to us, but sounded good, so we bought a loaf. Since it was still warm, it couldn't be sliced yet. This bread is so very good! We also bought a Croissant Bread Loaf and the lady asked if we wanted it sliced. We had it sliced. They have a pretty old looking machine that does it. I've had a couple slices with eggs for breakfast and it is perfect! We also got a slice of bread with dried fruit. This was my least favorite thing. It was a little dry. We put our goodies in the car and we could smell the breads! What a delightful aroma! My family and I have been coming to Honey Bakery since I was a baby. Same owner, same spot, same layout nothing has changed and honestly it's really comforting to see. Aside from the nostalgia of Honey Bakery from an objective standpoint this bakery is bulletproof to me. The croissant bread and other loaves are consistently good. For any special occasion their Mango Cake is always a crowd pleaser. People love it for birthday parties, graduations etc. Additionally, they'll write whatever you want (within reason) on the cake free of charge. Thier small baked breads and pastries are also delecious. It's not overly greasy or dry and its tasty! Definitely recommend toasting them if you want to enjoy it at it's best. We enjoy coming here to get a few sweets after eating at the nearby restaurant! They have some standard bakery goods as well as things I've never seen before. It's currently Chinese New Year time & they have some dainty little things like a chestnut cake about the size of golf ball that looks like a chestnut, and a taro paste cake about the same size in the shape of some Chinese characters. I have always loved their mango cake for having fresh mango. My recent same day purchase/pick up of 1/4 sheet mango cake was old. Think I'm done with this place. We've been buying from this place whenever in the area, for more than 20 years. The service is never great, it's just "there". The cakes are great - when fresh. They are not always. But if they are selling older (suspected- not confirmed) sliced cakes, they are not discounted, and you aren't told - those can be hard and dry. This has happened to us various times and I'm not sure why we kept trying. I stopped in recently to buy cakes and breads for ourselves and to gift to a friend nearby. I bought $60 in items (breads, cakes, puddings), and I wanted a cake box to put them in for presentation, I was told it would be $1 charge. If I bought a cake for $40 I would get a box no charge. If I buy other items, even over $40, a box will cost $1. I tried the sliced dark chocolate cake and it was the hardest/driest cake I have had in years. The frosting was solid and the cake in between was dry and crumbly. Now i'm afraid to try the sliced carrot cake I also purchased. After 2 bites, the dark chocolate cake went into the trash. I think the sliced carrot cake is likely bound for the trash too. I think it's most worth it to buy from here if you order a cake, it's made fresh, and you pick it up. Anything sitting on the counter, it's really up to you if you want to buy things that could be that day, or 1- ??? days old. This has been our experience for years, and I finally felt I should write an honest review of our own experiences. From now on I'll only buy cakes that I order and pick up. read more

As another reviewer said, this is a family owned so please be patience. The cake is very soft, fluffy and light. The cream is non-dairy. Minus a star because they do not take orders over the phone. You have to go into the store to order and pay. Not sure if they haven't gotten burn in the past by customers. If the cake is available then they can customized it and it may take up to an hour. For a chocolate cake that I needed, they asked me to "call" on the day of to put a chocolate cake on the side. Once I'm there then I can customized with the cream (vanilla or chocolate) and the desired fruits. Well I called and they are put all the chocolate cakes out. Unfortunately I would not be able to get any customized. Perhaps if you go there, placed an order in advance then you can customized it. It's a shame since we are not from the area. read more

*CASH ONLY* This is one of the few bakeries in the area that make napoleon style cakes so I knew I had to give it a try since my mom loves napoleon cakes. I called ahead to make sure that they have the crispy filling available (the employee told me that they sometimes run out so always call to make sure!). She also told me to place the order once I got to the bakery since they will assemble it for me within 10-15 mins on the spot! This is to make sure that the filling stays crispy & I really appreciated that. The cake itself was fluffy and not too sweet. The napoleon layers were a little thicker & harder than what I was used to- resembled more of a cookie layer- but it was still delicious, just hard to cut! The sponges and cream were also nice and light-tasting. We also tried a cream-filled bread (i think the name is butter cream bread?) while we waited for the cake to be made & it was so delicious. The cream was a very generous serving, the bread was soft, and once again it was not too sweet! Delicious chiffon fruit cakes, my favorite flavor was mango, but sometimes their mangoes weren't the sweetest. Great price point. Nowadays a 9" cake can get really expensive but they keep it affordable. They usually have some cakes ready to go in the fridge but the flavors will be limited, so if there's something specific you want, make sure you call ahead of time to reserve.
