This was the worst dinner I have had in a long time. Hubby got hamburger deluxe with gravey. The gravey was like wallpaper paste, the burger overcooked and the french fries and onion rings were soggy. I had the Spaghetti with white clam sauce special. The soup (shrimp bisque) was thick and tasteless. The salad wet and awful. The dinner came with tons of clams on top of a watery sauce yuk! The waitress didn't have a clue when asked about different things to eat and recommendations. I asked what salad dressings were available only to be told Oh I can't remember them all....WHAT!!!! I'm very torn what to rate this diner. I've lived in commack for my whole life and always loved eating here. Maybe it's just a take out issue but the past 5 times my husband and I ordered to go from here something was wrong with the order! Weather they put the wrong cheese, put tomatoes when we say no tomatoes, or simply forgetting the salad dressing it is always something to be aggravated about. I work in the restaurant business so I don't like to call and complain but the 3rd time something happened I had my husband call. No reimbursement offered for our next visit just saying we can bring back the one we got and come get a new one. Another inconvenience. Today we ordered again and I can honestly say I don't think we will ever order take out again! I don't know why I have given them so many chances to begin with. But again I received a wrap with tomatoes when we said no tomatoes, also did not receive salad dressing. So 2 errors in 1 order. Surprised at the low reviews. My boyfriend and I travel from Queens to come here sometimes. I love the complimentary macaroni salad they give you before the meal. They give out good portions, good is good, service is friendly and you won't break your bank. I gotta say, it's really popular. Although they had the traditional huge menu, I just had eggs & bacon, was in a rush, my meal was average, but everyone around me were having all the specials that looked great. This is where all my friends during high school would show up drunk or high at 2 AM. It's 24 hours but actually gets frequented at all hours of the day. It's been over 7 years since I've been to Candlelight but you know, it literally has not changed. It was nostalgic actually. Same waitress uniforms, same scent, same decor. It was comforting. The waitress was still slightly miserable, the seats still a little tacky, the food, still OK. 5 star service and food it is not. But a comforting go to spot indeed. It's not less than average, but it's not great. It's just right and you know what? Every time I visit my family I'll make a stop just for old times sake. The menu is absolutely enormous and all food is served at all times. I would not recommend ordering anything on the classy side however, stick to the easy to make stuff; hamburgers, sandwiches, breakfasts. Stay away from seafood or expensive meats or anything Italian. Greek foods should be awesome considering the owner is Greek. I love how they still serve coleslaw and pickles before every meal still. Man, some things just don't change. read more

My family and I have been going here for a while now.at least once a week. The food is Ok. We started going here because it is very close to our house. We go for dinner.we went there last night I wasn't that hungry. My daughter wanted to have a pasta dish so I said I would just have some of hers. Now I have waitdressed and I know there is a charge for sharing,and I also know you pay extra because you get an extra soup,salad or potato and vegetable.that's why they charge you. But we didn't get anything extra they charged us $3.50 for bringing a extra plate to the table. I asked the manager or owner I'm not sure who he was. But he was just rude. Wouldn't even take the time to listen to me he just kept saying she did the right thing.so he things charging to bring an extra plate to the table is the right thing. Greed is a terrible thing.I guess they wanted that $3.50 move that my $80 plus dollars I have been spending there every week.there are a ton of other diners that I will be giving my money too. The candlelight diner was spot on and the service was quick and proficient. When it comes to having a guilty pleasure for food that I like it comes down to the Oreo pancakes with whip cream. I will be honest with you those pancakes were so divine that I would actually order them again and for that price you can't go wrong with pancakes. Have not been to this diner in years and just remembered why! Food was so bland and tasteless we will not be going back! We ordered matzo ball soup and chicken noodle the broth had no taste at all. Too much noodles in chicken soup hardly any broth. We got grilled chicken panini with mozzarella and roasted pepper. The panini wasn't even pressed or warm, it was a flat bread with lines on it folded in half. Hardly any chicken, round deli slices of mozzarella, and red peppers right out of a jar. There was more bread than anything else. The fries and cup of pea soup were the only good things. Our waitress was unfriendly and when I mentioned my disappointment in the panini she half heartedly offered me more chicken. At that point lunch was over. Too many other places to eat that have good food in Commack than to waste your $ there. read more

Had a very good lunch today. Bacon Cheeseburger was very good. Lunch special of grilled chicken, sauteed spinach and mozzarella cheese wrap was delicious. It arrived hot and the french fries with it were steaming hot too and delicious. The lunch special came with soup and the Lentil soup was terrific. i wish i could give this place zero stars. So we went in this evening and ordered. One order of chicken pot pie which came with a side salad and cup of soup. They brought the soup and salad out and about 15 minutes after waiting for food the server told us that they ran out of chicken pot pie. so we got chicken fingers instead. never filled out waters throughout the meal. When the bill came we were charged $5 for the salad and $3.50 for the soup. Tried to explain to the owner that we would not have gotten a soup or salad had it not come with the chicken pot pie and they should have asked if we wanted to keep the soup and salad when they asked us to change the order. This was the absolute worst place i have ever been too . So i walk in sit and this waitress thats older with purple hair came over to take me and my friends order . I first ordered toast with sausage on the side then i saw this other breakfast she was showing me and i decided to get that i said so can i get that and u can take away the toast , she said " yea u dont need the toast if ur getting this" . She leaves then comes back and saids if u still want the sausage on the side its gonna be 12 dollars i was like ok . Then she came back again and said acsually its gonna be 18 dollars, then shes like so maybe u should get the sausage and she came over saying that knowing my boyfriend was paying for me thats so rude and embarrassing. I never get mad or yell at anyone and i was getting really mad with her i didnt relize sausage was 6 dollars . Then after all of this a lady comes up to me and says that was so rediculous that reminds me of that movie all he wanted was his sandwich toasted and they wouldnt understand. Only 24 hour diner around the smithtown area during the week days. Im pregnant and was craving french toast at 200am cause you know why not haha. This diner we've had bad experiences with before, but kept positive because I'm hungry and theres nothing else open. We arrive and its awkwardly quiet in here. Theres one waitress i felt starring me down (like most people stare at my pregnant belly). She comes off extremely dull and very negative. As my SO tries to ask for the flavors of shakes they have available she answers him like hes an idiot...it wasn't a dumb question, some diners only have chocolate and vanilla while others have several more. After she makes his shake she slams it on the table without saying anything. Its just sad. Diners should always have a friendly welcoming vibe to it and this one is always depressing and the staff always seems drugged up or like they work in a funeral home. I do not recommend this diner! Only gave it two stars cause it is only 24 hour diner around here. Next time we'll drive all the way to Nassau county for a diner. read more

for all you gluten free people like me, the waitress wasnt understanding what gluten free needs are and wouldnt even find out from the chefs or owners if the food i was ordering had any gluten in it. thus it made it too risky for me to order anything substantional. not worth taking the chance. i have been at other restaurants and they go back and check in the kitchen even reading ingredients for me to be sure. now that is the restuarant that gluten free people should eat at. in fact, i did wind up ordering somethign i thought would be free and clear of any risk and i found something while eating in it that looked like it could have been a piece of breading! glad i found it before i ate that part,but, who knows if there was another piece of that breading in the bites i took, way too scary!! my guess is the waitress didnt even tell the salad maker to be very careful making this because the patron is gluten allergic. so, who knows what was dropped in there or stuck to the lettuce or on the knive or plate.! it wasnt on the top of the salad. i only saw it after i took some and moved to the bottom. apparantly, they just dont understand how much that can harm me or us! this could have been avoided. even the fact that was in the salad doesnt look good for this place. it shouldnt have been in there anyway. it actually looked like mushed chewed up piece of something, really weird read more
