Our waitress was exemplary and engaging. Observed how she checked up on her tables and even held small conversations with her customers ( including us). The food was excellent, cooked to our specifications, well portioned and reasonably priced. The diner is spacious and great for large parties, well maintained and nicely decorated ( for a diner). The owners and staff are professional and extremely friendly. Additionally, for those who are senior citizens the diner offers a 10% discount but you have to ask the discount when paying your bill. Hubby hasn't been to the diner in over 20 years and had to stop in when we were visiting the area. The diner is spotless and the staff friendly. We were seated right away. We were in the mood for Greek and we got a gyro and chicken souvlaki. I was really happy with my souvlaki. Normally it's chunks of chicken with shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes but this came with chicken, sauteed peppers and onions and tomatoes. So good and so flavorful. Hubby was eyeing my dish but he was happy with his gyro. The tzatziki sauce was definitely fresh and homemade and delicious! The pea soup was so creamy and warm and the salad came with all the fixings. Finally we took our chocolate chip cookies to go but they also offered pudding, ice cream and some other choices. Our go to Saturday Night place. Everyone is very friendly. The renovation took care of what others said was a rundown experience. Dinner Specials are always a value; we eat the leftovers for Sunday dinner and sometimes I take it to work on Monday. Not sure why anyone would call their food bland? Always tasty and flavorful. Came for breakfast at this old fashioned diner. It has a very large parking lot, plenty of room in the diner and an extensive menu. The restaurant is a bit dated, including the bathrooms, but clean. The staff were exceptionally friendly and our waitress was very, very attentive filling the coffee and waters regularly. The food served had large portions but a bit bland. The coffee was very good with nice heavy mugs. The ketchup was a bit odd. It didn't taste like Heinz, much sweeter but maybe it was a different Heinz variety. It turned out to be the best choice we could've made. Knott only is the ambience excellent but the service is exceptional. Everybody seems to enjoy their job and are eager to please and serve You have multiple people checking in on you asking everything is OK. Now the food was all amazing too there's plenty of options. First time here with a friend who grew up frequenting this diner. We arrived before lunch and had no problem being seated. Our server Kelly was exceptional. Why? She was very knowledgeable on the menu and took great care of us. I was torn between the beef stew lunch special and the chicken pot pie. Asking for the recommendation, Kelly suggested the beef stew and my friend got baked clams. Well, Kelly had to deliver the bad news that the beef stew needed 30 more minutes to be done. Bummer! So, pot pie it was. Both of our orders came with a nice fresh Greek salad and a beverage and dessert. The salad was very fresh with crisp iceberg lettuce, a crumble of feta, some olives, grape tomatoes and sliced red onions. The dressing is served on the side. My pot pie was good and very hot! It's definitely a comfort food dish. Shredded chicken, peas and carrots intertwined in the delicious gravy. All that was missing for me was some rice. The clams were huge and my girlfriend ate quite a few with spares for dinner. For our desserts we got cheesecake and a Napoleon. Both were okay. But the bonus? Was in the area for an event at the H. Lee Dennison Building. Not much around to eat so we stopped in. For starters, the menu is so overwhelming and that was my first clue. There's no way in hell they could cook all those items to perfection. You're niche can't be everything. The ambiance was quint essential diner. Lots of large groups, families and people not using their inside voice. It still allowed for you to enjoy your party. For a starter an order of wings dropping off the bone came as a part of the table service with warm store bought bread. We placed our orders and he disappeared. About 20 mins later he still hadn't returned with the drinks and when he did he seemed overwhelmed. The food finally arrived. My chicken noodle soup was beyond high in sodium and was way to creamy for my liking. My friend ordered shrimp/ crab cakes that came plastered in marinara sauce. She didn't care for it and asked for it to be returned and our other friend had a trip with steak, shrimp and chicken with veggies. The portion was so massive she only realized it had rice on the bottom when she went to pack her to go container. I'm not a big eater but when I do, I prefer a few quality items in small portions than a massive load of everything done poorly. I'll pass on revisiting this establishment. read more

Bon G and I were going to a Dr in Smithtown and every time we went home we had passed the HPD. We entered the Diner, and were pleasantly greeted, and immediately seated with menus. We were given water and our server arrived with complimentary wings and a bread basket. The wings were not typical wings. They were roasted in vegetables, like a chicken fricasee. Delicious and tender. My husband ordered a full dinner, the chicken/steak/shrimp Teriyaki with a Greek Salad and chicken tortilla soup. It was a happy surprise to be served a nice sized dressing for the Greek salad. The chicken tortilla soup was delicious, served with tortilla chips. Also had chunks of avocado, a nice, rare detail. The Teriyaki combination was amazing. The meats were tender and the shrimp perfectly cooked, but the Teriyaki flavor awesome! I had the Lo-Carb Grilled chicken queso. There was a nice char flavor on the chicken breast. I chose the cauliflower mash which was delicious!! Our server was pleasant, along with all support staff we came in contact with. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Growing up and living on Long Island I've been to my share of diners. Diners are great as there really is something for everyone and anyone. My boyfriend and I came here around 11am on a Sunday. Not an open seat in the house, and people kept on coming and coming. We waited under 5 minutes for a table. I ordered the Avocado Monterey Jack and Cheddar Cheese Omelette and added bacon and got sweet potato fries. The omelette was delicious! Huge generous pieces of avocado throughout. The sweet potato fries were just okay...they needed some mild seasoning. My boyfriend ordered the Belgian waffle with bacon, sausage and ham. Belgian waffle was delish. It came with 5 pieces of bacon, one sausage link and one piece of ham. All yummy! Service was great considering there wasn't an empty seat anywhere. That's ok though, it's a diner; they have what your expecting from a diner. Great portions, the food is cooked the way you'd expect, and the staff is bar none the friendliest out there. I had all but gave up on this place but my daughter and mom were putting an order in and the rest of us were starving so we decided to just get something. Not shockingly we were disappointed yet again. Got a gyro and while this was the only item not over cooked they didn't send the sauce so I ended up eating it with ranch. My wife got a Greek salad and paid extra for grilled chicken, the chicken looked and tasted like it was cooked in a dehydrator and the poor excuse for a Greek salad didn't come with Greek dressing so was forced to eat with Italian dressing. Now plenty of diners have closed and with any luck this place won't be far behind them and maybe someone will open a food establishment with good tasting food in that location. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra 50 cents in gas and 10 mins driving and go visit the Lake Grove Diner.
