We often go shopping in this area, so we are always looking for good places to eat. This place looked promising, so we tried it out for a late breakfast/early lunch. Visiting family for the weekend but staying at a rental, we decided to grab breakfast out. The Dix Hill Diner I have visited a few times when connecting with a close friend when in town. Grew up on LI I enjoyed many a meal at diners, they can't be beat. Plenty of parking and is easily accessible from Deer park Ave and 25. The decor is as it should be with counter seating and chrome and mirrors. I think I even spotted a jukebox (?). Lots of decadent desserts on display in the revolving case, classic! Today I am here with my husband. Greeted as soon as we came through the doors, seated at the last booth available in this Saturday morning. Waitress came right over and took our beverage order and promptly returned. Once past the sticker shock (breakfast at home diner is similar but less expensive). He had two eggs with corned beef hash and I opted for two sides since no hot cereal was available. Canadian bacon and hash browns. One cup of coffee each and some water to drink we waited maybe 10 minutes and the food was hot and on the table. Eggs cooked perfectly and more than enough with the toast. My hash browns took up 80% of the plate and the Canadian bacon took up the other 20%! Yum! Lefts overs came home with us for our sleepy son. Damages were $40 in case you were wondering :) No doubt I will be back and most likely in August when I return. Great job, see you in August! read more

First time there. Gigantic menu selections! I had a 'navel cut pastrami sandwich' that was good but somewhat overcooked. Shouldn't have been stiff slices. Taste was good. Cole slaw good. Service was ok but mostly had to flag down server. For such a large menu and restaurant, they had NO pies! I thought that was odd. I love the food here every time I visit. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I love the food. For a diner they go above and beyond to make really good staples and interesting special dishes. The service is always done with a smile and the ambiance is busy and a little hectic but never a negative. I went on a Saturday this time and had to wait 10 minutes to sit, but they still saw to our table relatively quickly. Service was great. Food excellent! The amount of turkey in my turkey wrap was fantastic. So many places fill it up with lettuce and 2 small pieces of turkey and call it good. Not this place! Lots of options on the menu that were different than typical diner fare. Price was on the more expensive side. The night before we were at a different diner and the price was almost the same, the only difference being that the night before we had dessert. Where they fell short was no pickle and coleslaw at the beginning. This should be an automatic! Come on DH diner!!! The bathrooms weren't exactly clean and the doors require you to pull them to exit. Normally not a big deal grab a towel and open the door but there's no garbage to throw a towel into after you open the door. Food is good but on DoorDash their is a very very limited selection. They have great soups for sickness. Specifically their chicken noodle soup is a stable and great to recover a sore throat. They are very fast and food is always ready. read more

I was a bit skeptical to dine here because of the mixed reviews, but a friend and I decided to meet here for lunch and to my surprise I was pleased. Typical diner setting. The noise level was on the quiet side, but that was okay. The service was friendly. Our waitress gave us ample time to review the menu (so many good sounding options) and helped me decide on the Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich - two chicken cutlets, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion ring and honey mustard with sweet potato fries. Of course I had to dissect it, but that was just me being picky. It tasted decent and the portion size was plentiful. Can't say it was worth the $20 for this sandwich which I thought was pricey for diner food. My friend got the Tuscany Panini and she enjoyed it. The counter along with its stools stands perfectly aligned with the symmetry of a Diners allure. Upon entering you are asked your preference of either a table or a booth. The servers are all in step with the patrons. Always there with a coffee and a smile. We stopped in for brunch today and our server was so pleasant and polite that we were totally charmed. Our orders were brought out and we dove right in. The food is tasteful and wonderfully prepared. The freshness is evident in every mouthful. The owners of this "gem" truly thrive on their goal of offering great quality food and service. The ambiance is quant and friendly. You feel as though you were at a friends home. My favorite is Cajun Mac and cheese. The spiciness of the chicken calmed down by the creamy Mac and cheese is wonderful. Soups are always great. Daily specials come with dessert which are excellent. We bought a house in Huntington Station near the train station and tried the Coach Diner decent, but it didn't hit the mark for what a Long Island diner should be. I judge a diner by the matzo ball soup, burger, pickle, and coleslaw and Dix Hills Diner has been our go-to! I was so thrilled to find it. If you haven't had the French toast, it's a must. The ambiance of the place is totally screaming diner, so that was always a good thing because you want to have the feel. The service was amazing !! Totally welcoming and friendly. I ordered take out of matzoh ball soup and asked for no noodles. You can choose large or small. I ordered the large (a quart) and drove home about 6 miles. I had surgery last week and this was my first time out of the house. I was sadly disappointed. There was ONE matzoh ball in the broth for $13. I called the restaurant to ask if there should have been 2 or 3. I spoke with Peter who said there should be two, but his staff has worked there a long time and they would not do that. I asked what he would do for me and he rudely said "I owe you one matzoh ball." I can recommend the Dolphin Diner in Huntington for a hearty and very tasty matzoh ball soup. For the past 20 or 30 years - it is protocol to walk into a diner on Long Island -- and get handed a GIGANTIC menu with hundreds of choices from an egg on toast to Surf N' Turf , and everything in-between. It's just the way things are. Not here though. Dix Hills diner has a "lunch menu" till 4 PM. And it's not GIGANTIC - even though it has burgers & sandwiches and some 3 course options . And yes, in case you were wondering -- prices have gone UP. We waited a few minutes and opted for the dinner menu and the options still fell short . (the menu is colorless with no photos of any kind) . There was something "off" about NOT having the basic GIGANTIC Long Island Diner menu that everyone else has. We ordered 2 burgers - 2 orders of onion rings - and 2 Diet sodas. They were fine. Price was top dollar. No reason to even come back . Too many other options . read more

Been going here for years and this will definitely be the last time. The managers are extremely rude with absolutely no concern for their customers. Ordered 3 burgers cooked medium for pick up, when I got home all of the burgers were completely raw (it happens). The real problem is when I called them to tell them my burgers were raw and i'd like to come back and get new ones, the manager said that I must have ordered them wrong and it was my fault. He said "that's not how we do things here". I eventually talked them into making new burgers for us and when I went to pick it up, the guy at the front desk ACTUALLY TRIED TO MAKE US PAY FOR THEM. We asked him to look at the burgers to see that we weren't kidding about how raw they were, and he took the bag, threw it on the back counter and said I don't care. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the managers. Every restaurant makes mistakes and it's easy to fix but to speak to customers like that is inexcusable. read more

We came here after a big weekend doo wop concert at the local high school. It was late and we wanted a local place to eat. I tried the strawberry Belgian waffle. It was excellent, and the strawberries were fresh. My wife had the banana pecan pancakes. I kind of wished I'd had them instead, as they were really good. Our friend Jake got a Mac and cheese burger, I think he called it. He seemed to really enjoy it. The three of us got sides of fries with ranch dressing. The fries were crisp and delicious, while the ranch was a perfect accompaniment. Being late at night and near closing time, the server seemed disinterested in truly serving us, except when taking the order. He forgot food and did not refill drinks (I didn't look at the individual cost of items, but the total bill was $75, after the 4% credit card surcharge, but before we added a tip, which was well above what it should have been, given the quality of service.
