Love me some Chicken George when I come back home!! Candlelight in Clinton, IA is a great place to have lunch. It was a beautiful day to sit on the patio overlooking the river. I was with my family and we enjoyed a great meal.

Stopped in to give the Chicken George a try, at lunch today. For October, they have free, complementary onion rings, appetizer for everybody. Ordered the half pound original chicken George and fries to share and some soft drinks. Service was very quick and friendly. Food service was quick and food was delicious. In case anybody's wondering, the batter is more of the consistency of a tempura batter . Very light and not heavy tasting, so very good! Very nice to sit in the outside deck and watch the boats and river go by!

Wow! What a view and ambiance! Candlelight Inn has the single-most beautiful view in all of Clinton! My partner and I enjoyed an all-you-can-eat fish fry on Friday and it definitely exceeded our expectations. This is a gorgeous spot for a romantic date. We watched the sunset while two eagles flew by the windows as we dined on the water. It doesn't get much better! The food is great, but nothing stands out that makes it unique outside of the restaurant setting itself. Nonetheless, I will be back and can't wait! Wonderful service as well!

5/28/23: Filet Medallions. They were out of the wild rice that this entrée is supposed to come with. They served this instead!

Candlelight Inn is a nice restaurant overlooking the upper Mississippi river and the Clinton marina. They have a large dining room, a separate bar area, and an outdoor deck with lots of seating. It's a great place to soak up the sun and enjoy your favorite libation or take in the tranquil scenery from the comfort of your table. The service and ambiance are on point, but the quality of the food seems to have slipped in recent times. In late May of 2023 we had a large table at Candlelight, there were about 18 of us in total. Several of us ordered the filet medallions entrée; two 3 oz. medallions over wild rice with Jack Daniels sauce and your choice of a side. What we received were several plates in various states of disarray. Some of us received rice, others didn't. They claimed to have ran out of wild rice. Seriously? In the middle of dinner service on a Sunday evening? My brother ordered his sans the Jack Daniels sauce and with a side of french onion soup. Since he didn't receive wild rice, they sent out a plate with two obviously overcooked medallions that closely resembled lumps of coal. Fast forward 10 months, my brother and I decided to give them another try. This time for a weekday lunch. We each ordered a margarita, a cheeseburger, and french onion soup. My brother also ordered onion rings. The margaritas were very acidic and you couldn't taste the tequila. The food was just OK to put it kindly. I'm not certain that I'll let them fool me a third time.

Another delicious meal and fun day with family. Always enjoy our time here and Evan is such a great waiter!

Great view, but just not quite warm enough.

Friendly service and great view makes any meal better. Known for their chicken tenders and they are tasty. The seating on the deck may require some effort as it is popular but i would add, worth the wait.

Very nice restaurant. Cucumber salad dressing is really good! NY strip was excellent. Onion rings were ok. Too thin with too much batter. Service was excellent. Only thing I'd change is the music. Terrible. Was putting me to sleep,

Came here for the first time with my coworkers. It was said that this place had the best prime rib in town, but I wasn't impressed. We ordered the prime rib (thin sliced, bland, and I got the King size too), prime ribeye (delicious and very flavorful), boom boom shrimp (delicious and the flavor is similar to Chinese walnut shrimp), fried mushroom (juicy and batter is delicious), and the highly recommended Famous Chicken George (super juicy, flavorful especially with their Jan's sauce, tender, and cheap). The staff here are friendly and fast. The parking lot is huge and they're located next to a small boat harbor with a lighthouse and the beautiful Mississippi River.

Can't go wrong with any dish that has Chicken George in it! We had the Mac and Cheese version, Broiled Chicken of the Sea, and regular order of Chicken George. Delicious! Service was excellent and the views of the river were great too. Will be back!

This place was okay. Had good service. The prime rib was tough and the gravy (on my mashed potatoes) tasted like it was from a can.

A two egg omelet isn't that large but it was part of the breakfast special so it is what it is. The onions are peppers were too large, those should be prepped smaller in our opinion. Not much cheese at all. The American potatoes were good. The biscuit and gravy was sort of good, it's like a milk gravy. The biscuits were good. The problem is you expect like sausage gravy or something for some taste and flavor, there really was none. Came straight out of the kitchen and it was basically cold. Then came the pancakes, whoa! I couldn't figure out where the odd taste was coming from. Without saying anything I asked my wife to try a bite. She then had a strange look on her face. Thought it couldn't be from the whipped butter, syrup maybe? No, then we each tried a bite from a pancake with nothing on it. Whatever the odd taste was it was in the pancake. Couldn't quite place the taste, some added flavoring.....whatever it was it wasn't good. Served one container of whipped butter which is only enough for one pancake. Didn't matter as it turned out. We might try them again for lunch but we won't be back again for breakfast. Sorry, but it just didn't work for us.

In other words, it may not be a great place for a date. If you are looking for a good meal though, don't let it's appearance turn you off. I had the Cuatlatl skillet. The sausage was decently spicy. The rest of the dish was not spicy. The result of that mix was that the spiciness accented the other flavors of the dish without overpowering them. It was a solid breakfast skillet. My wife had a an omelette (I don't remember if it was the Greek or Garden). She liked it and made the specific comment that the spinach seemed like it was cooked inside the omelette rather than just being laid on top of it. She liked this about it. My kid had plain pancakes. There was nothing special about these, but they were done well. Prices were decent. Our waitress was good. The restaurant was busy, but she stayed on top of things. Overall, this is a hidden gem. The food is pretty good, even if the place doesn't look the part. I would eat here again.

Certainly not for the food. First thing we found quite different was no dinner rolls or even wafer crackers to eat with your salads. I don't ever remember a diner over all the years that didn't serve one or the other....or both. Nope, you just get a salad and dressing, that's it. No shredded cheese for the top of your salad nor was it offered. My wife had the Chicken Parmesan. To her it tasted like store bought tomato sauce from a can. No taste to the rest of it at all. For bread, two pieces of toast. She ate not quite half of the meal. It wasn't as good to her as from other diners over the years, not at all. I had the Broiled Steak Sirloin with cooked onions. No flavor, no taste, I couldn't taste any seasoning. I was quite disappointed. Normally these are made with a good quality fresh hamburger or even mixed with some ground sirloin and with some seasoning. I would say this wasn't made from fresh, not in my opinion. I only ate about half because I was hungry. Sorry to say but the food was sub-par compared to many other diners we've eaten at over the years yet they charge right up there with the prices for it today. We haven't been to a diner in years where if we have half of it left, it goes home for diner the next day. Not this time, we left it all behind. We'll give them one more try and that will be for breakfast. We won't be trying it for again for lunch. Sorry, but this all really missed the mark for us.

Mother's Day Brunch Bust. Cant rate food or atmosphere…read morebecause we didnt get to eat & left. Setvice at the front desk was horrible. This past Wednesday I called Rastrelli's Restaurant @ the number listed in a post to make a reservation to treat my loving amazing wife to a delicious Sunday brunch to celebrate her. Instead, we were met with incompetence, poor customer service & a general unwillingness to accommodate customers (1 being a mother on Mother's Day). At first 4 frazzled greeters in black shirts could not find our reservation. Of course. The first question from the staff was when the reservation could not be located was "Did somebody call you later to confirm your reservation?" (What???? Who does that??? Isn't that what the reservation is all about???) The staff asked if somebody took down my name & number. I assured them that this happened. I added that the person even reiterated what I had told them; repeating my 1st & last name, phone number & the time for our reservation. I even showed my call log to show the time I called & to prove that nobody ever called me back. I also stated that at no point in the conversation, did the staff person say anything about anybody calling me back to confirm my reservation. During this 15-20 minute fiasco, we sat & watched the staff greet & seat numerous other parties w/ 2-3 X as many people as our party of 3. Finally the staff involved a 5th person in a red shirt who thankfully found the original call log that contained my information proving that I did in fact call in for 3 people on 05/10/26 @ 11:00 am. The staff told us that there were no tables available as we did not have a reservation, because somebody did not transfer my name from the call in list to the reservation list. As this was going on, 3 people came to the counter, paid their bill and left. I asked "Those 3 people are leaving. Why can't you just give us their table?" Again, we were told we didn't have a reservation even though they did find our name on the reservation call in log. All this went on for 30 minutes with the staff displaying a profound rigidness stating, We cant seat you....Our reservations are booked in a time specific manner......there is no wiggle room. No effort was ever made by these 5 staff members to provide any assistance, accommodation or resolution. At this point frustration set in & we left. So thanks for nothing Rastrelli's. It will be a long time before we ever go out of our way or even stop in for a meal at this establishment.
