Very good dimsum for Massachusetts, where there are not a whole lot of Asian people. So far, they are one of the best dimsum places I've had in Boston, with a wide variety, reasonable prices, and great food quality. Customer Service is also excellent for a dim sum place. Most Chinese people are grumpy, but here at East Ocean, they are very friendly and accommodating. Two Thumbs Up !!!

Me and my son were here last Saturday for dimsum because we were in the area. Great service, great atmosphere. Ordered maybe only 3-4 things because it was just me and my 1.5 year old son. My son loves shu Mai and steamed shrimp noodle so he loved it here. Our preferred dim-sum place is Winsor which is down the street but we wanted to try a new scenery. Shu Mai was tasty, steamed shrimp noodle was ok. I prefer Winsor because you can add cilantro and scallion. And it's more fluffy. But overall, to experience an old dim-sum atmosphere, definitely come here. Seems like all the local elderly, come here to enjoy their Saturday mornings.

This is the real thing, minus the carts. It can be pretty busy here on a weekend, because besides folks waiting for tables, they do a lot of take-out. The menu is extensive, certainly a lot more items than you'd traditionally see waiting for carts to come around. The one disadvantage is that after you place your order, your receipt is at the table before the food, so they can cross things off as they are delivered - if you want more, you have to go through the ordering process all over again. Portions for vegetable items are very generous. Even when it's "as busy as it gets," you can still usually find street parking within a block or so.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch and I'm very impressed. It's relatively small compared to another dim sum restaurant down the street, but the food is worth it. It was very busy for lunch and I had a relatively large party so there was a small wait time. Even though it was busy, the tables seemed to have moved pretty fast and once we were seated, the food came out really fast after ordering. You can order by writing on the menu and there are also people walking around with freshly made plates. They had the classic dim sum dishes like the shrimp dumplings, tripe, and chicken feet, but I think the star of the restaurant is their pan fried pork and chive dumplings. They were massive and really well made. This restaurant is also pretty standard with the service in the sense that it's quick paced and the waiters and waitresses will bring you your food, but if you need anything extra you will need to flag someone down. I don't mind that though! Overall if you're looking for a no nonsense dim sum restaurant with really good food, this is the place.

My family's go-to for dim sum in the area. Consistent quality and good variety of standard dim sum items. Go early when it opens at 10am. It's pretty packed by 11:30am. All items are made to order. $1 per person tea surcharge but they didn't charge for the kids. Eating utensils, cups, plates are clean. Limited on-street parking.

Dim sum breakfast! Yes please! Finally ventured out to Quincy in search of some good dim sum and we found it! We were craving dim sum for breakfast so we arrived at the restaurant as soon as it opened. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of tables for big and small groups. We were quickly seated once we arrived but the restaurant was already bustling with action. We were given a picture menu along with a list menu and a sharpie pen. The ordering process was very simple. There are no ladies pushing carts of dishes instead you circle the dishes you want on the list menu and hand over your order to the waiters. We wanted sumai for sure, Chinese broccoli, pork bao, and we were curious to try the Taro dumplings and some specialty dumplings that had to our surprise whole peanuts inside. Everything came out nice and hot and at the same time. The sumai was our favorite! It was packed with flavor and hit the spot. The bao was also nice and fluffy and very tasty. The Taro dumplings were ok, not our favorite but we gave them a shot. The speciality peanut dumplings were also ok. We really enjoyed the Chinese broccoli, it was cooked perfectly. We wanted more but had to save some room for the sesame balls! They were delicious! They tasted fresh, were nice and warm and were not too heavy. We literally finished every dish! No leftovers for us! We really enjoyed our dim sum! Yay! and can't wait to come back!

My go to place for dimsum. No other place compares! I always get their: -shrimp rice rolls: you CANNOT skip this!! They make it so perfectly here. The wrapping is so silky soft with a bit of chew and plump shrimp inside. -shrimp and pork shu mai: they're so fat and juicy! The flavor is perfect. I love how they have shiitake mushroom inside of these. -har gow: they don't use any fillers here, pure delicious shrimp dumplings with the chewy skin! You know it's fresh by looking at the skin -fried shrimp and chive dumpling: again, if you've noticed a trend by now, they're very generous with their fillings! Look at how big they are! I don't have any complaints about any of their dimsum dishes. I happily drive 1 hour to this place!

Stopped by here with the family to enjoy some dim sum. It was very busy but we only waited about 15 minutes for a table to open up. Not your typical place where there are food carts roaming around, we ordered off the menu which luckily had pictures as well. Everything came out hot and fresh, and very tasty. Service was good and staff were friendly. We will definitely come back here.

Good dim sum at decent prices. Seems like a traditional spot where you know the service won't be great, but the food will.

It's so much more spacious, the staff is way friendlier, and the food is just as good--if not better. Whether you're coming for a weekend dim sum run or a full authentic Chinese dinner, this place consistently hits. The dim sum staples are an absolute must: the shrimp and celery bean curd roll, rice rolls, shu mai, and harkow are all perfection. And you can't leave without the BBQ pork buns or those decadent lava buns and egg tarts. If you're with a bigger group, their family-style shareables like the house fried rice and stir-fried Chinese broccoli are top-tier pairings. There's plenty of parking (though it definitely fills up during peak hours!), and the vibe is super family-friendly. It's the perfect spot to catch up with friends over an amazing meal. 10/10 neighborhood staple! One star left out purely because sometimes the line is just so out of control. Get here early!

It was about 2 hours before closing time on a Sunday night, and only 3 or 4 tables in the huge dining room were occupied, which spooked me a little. Turned out we had nothing to fear---the food was excellent, really on par if not better than anything from Chinatown where we usually hit the New Golden Gate restaurant when hankering for some Cantonese food. Best of all, none of the parking headaches of Chinatown! Only downside to this place is the table service---food was brought out fairly fast after ordering, but servers had to be flagged down to get their attention throughout, otherwise they were off socializing with each other on the other side of the space most of the time. We normally don't expect super duper service at Asian restaurants but this was a bit worse than usual. Very elegant and attractive space inside might make you fear for inflated pricing, but the prices were actually pretty reasonable given the quality and quantity of food you get. Am planning to come back, despite the lackadaisical service.

After doing a quick TikTok search, I was prompted to try out this chicken sandwich from Rubato. We walked over and actually missed it on the street because it's so tiny. After realizing it, we turned around and to our surprise, there were several people inside eating and others waiting. This must be a good sign. We walked in and it was the most casual, laid-back establishment. The green color scheme and plants gave it a more earthy vibe, which I absolutely loved. Since we didn't necessarily know what to order we decided to split the fried chicken bolo. When I tell you, I have not stopped thinking about that sandwich since I ate it, I'm not kidding. It was absolutely delicious. My husband, who was resistant to even going in the first place, kept telling everyone around town about it. We ordered a rice roll as usual--the female owner accidentally handed the dish to another table, and it sat there for about five minutes or so, while the couple was talking over the dish. Then the female owner apparently realized the dish was handed to the wrong table, she took it back into the kitchen (as a deception, thinking we wouldn't realize it's the same dish, we saw her through the curtain, she was holding the same dish the whole time--she didn't know we were watching and rightfully suspicious of what she was sneakily doing), then brought it out right back to our table. We did not want to say anything. But it was disgusting, people do spit onto the dish when they talk over it during those five minutes, you know? We were too shy to cause a scene or destroy the long standing relationship. Further, we couldn't afford to let that $12 or so dish go to waste. So we tried eating it. Afterward, we felt so disgusted. And that was the last time we went to Big Fun Cafe. Two years or so ago. Even after learning of its new location in Brookline, we are just so disgusted by the memory of the incident described above -- so we never tried their Brookline location. Note to the owners: for future customers, such mistakes do happen, but please have some integrity and just discard/trash the contaminated dish -- or if you want to be so cheap, eat the contaminated dishes yourself. Don't be so stingy and deceptive so as to hand it to your presumed naive customers. That was extremely disgusting and even two years later, we're still disgusted by it.
