They've got tons of options and everything we ordered was very solid. We definitely went more of the carbs route, but you can deviate as well. Nothing of major note in terms of service or atmosphere. This place is a 5 out of 5 for dim sum so definitely recommend for dim sum, but a 4 out of 5 for non-dim sum items. My standards are high since I am comparing this to Vincent's Asian Bistro in Randolph which is my family's favorite Chinese restaurant but sadly recently closed for unknown reasons. Anyway, the noodles at East Ocean were good, so was the Walnut Prawns and Crab Rangoons. The portions were also very generous. However, I didn't like the Sesame Chicken, Peking Duck, or Minced Stuffed Tofu as much as other Chinese restaurants. I would give it another chance and order other items in the future since it is a good, decent restaurant with generous portions. Very good dimsum for Massachusetts, where there are not a whole lot of Asian people. So far, they are one of the best dimsum places I've had in Boston, with a wide variety, reasonable prices, and great food quality. Customer Service is also excellent for a dim sum place. Me and my son were here last Saturday for dimsum because we were in the area. Great service, great atmosphere. Ordered maybe only 3-4 things because it was just me and my 1.5 year old son. My son loves shu Mai and steamed shrimp noodle so he loved it here. Our preferred dim-sum place is Winsor which is down the street but we wanted to try a new scenery. Shu Mai was tasty, steamed shrimp noodle was ok. I prefer Winsor because you can add cilantro and scallion. And it's more fluffy. This is the real thing, minus the carts. It can be pretty busy here on a weekend, because besides folks waiting for tables, they do a lot of take-out. The menu is extensive, certainly a lot more items than you'd traditionally see waiting for carts to come around. The one disadvantage is that after you place your order, your receipt is at the table before the food, so they can cross things off as they are delivered - if you want more, you have to go through the ordering process all over again. Portions for vegetable items are very generous. Even when it's "as busy as it gets," you can still usually find street parking within a block or so. read more

Came here on a Sunday for lunch and I'm very impressed. It's relatively small compared to another dim sum restaurant down the street, but the food is worth it. It was very busy for lunch and I had a relatively large party so there was a small wait time. Even though it was busy, the tables seemed to have moved pretty fast and once we were seated, the food came out really fast after ordering. You can order by writing on the menu and there are also people walking around with freshly made plates. They had the classic dim sum dishes like the shrimp dumplings, tripe, and chicken feet, but I think the star of the restaurant is their pan fried pork and chive dumplings. They were massive and really well made. This restaurant is also pretty standard with the service in the sense that it's quick paced and the waiters and waitresses will bring you your food, but if you need anything extra you will need to flag someone down. I don't mind that though! Overall if you're looking for a no nonsense dim sum restaurant with really good food, this is the place. read more

Dim sum breakfast! Yes please! Finally ventured out to Quincy in search of some good dim sum and we found it! We were craving dim sum for breakfast so we arrived at the restaurant as soon as it opened. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of tables for big and small groups. We were quickly seated once we arrived but the restaurant was already bustling with action. We were given a picture menu along with a list menu and a sharpie pen. The ordering process was very simple. There are no ladies pushing carts of dishes instead you circle the dishes you want on the list menu and hand over your order to the waiters. We wanted sumai for sure, Chinese broccoli, pork bao, and we were curious to try the Taro dumplings and some specialty dumplings that had to our surprise whole peanuts inside. Everything came out nice and hot and at the same time. The sumai was our favorite! It was packed with flavor and hit the spot. The bao was also nice and fluffy and very tasty. The Taro dumplings were ok, not our favorite but we gave them a shot. The speciality peanut dumplings were also ok. We really enjoyed the Chinese broccoli, it was cooked perfectly. We wanted more but had to save some room for the sesame balls! They were delicious! They tasted fresh, were nice and warm and were not too heavy. We literally finished every dish! My go to place for dimsum. No other place compares! I always get their: -shrimp rice rolls: you CANNOT skip this!! They make it so perfectly here. The wrapping is so silky soft with a bit of chew and plump shrimp inside. -shrimp and pork shu mai: they're so fat and juicy! The flavor is perfect. I love how they have shiitake mushroom inside of these. -har gow: they don't use any fillers here, pure delicious shrimp dumplings with the chewy skin! You know it's fresh by looking at the skin -fried shrimp and chive dumpling: again, if you've noticed a trend by now, they're very generous with their fillings! Look at how big they are! First and foremost, I liked the food. I went there for Dim Sum on a rainy day, by some miracle I found a parking space right in front. The place is in a city-like setting with only street parking as far as I could tell. This was the only downside as I bet at busier times it's probably hard to find parking. With that said that was the only real drawback I found. The dim sum items were very fresh tasting as was the seafood contained inside. The clams in black bean sauce were not the least bit rubbery and had a fresh consistency and nice blackbean sauce taste. The dumplings I had were shrimp and scallops, they were moon shaped and quite large, as well as fresh-tasting seafood inside. Same held true for the shark fin dumplings, although the filling there was probably pork, not dry in the least inside. We had about 9 dishes in total and there were no losers. As far as ambiance goes, well let's just say you are there for the food, nothing wrong here, but if you are looking for a high-end experience this is not the place, its purpose is dim sum and seafood, and does those items well, but you are not going here for the atmosphere. The wait staff were all helpful and the food came out quickly, the staff helped us get started ordering, as they give us a marker and you write your order right on the plastic menu with erasable ink. The staff and customer base are all Chinese and speak it. My dining partner speaks fluently, so no issue for us, but I don't think I heard any English in our vicinity, other than us. This place is legit and authentic dim sum is what you will get, I am looking forward to returning for some more. I will have to try it a couple of more times to determine if it's my new favorite, but either way it's up there, near the top of my list. read more

East Ocean Restaurant is a classic in Quincy, at this point, when it comes to dim sum! I would really suggest only coming here for their dim sum though as their normal dishes offered for dinner time hours are not as good, and average at best. This actually used to be the busiest place for dimsum like in the 2010s before Winsor arrived in Quincy & Ming's moved into the bigger location they are in now, and way before East Ocean, China Pearl in Quincy Center was the most popular for dimsum outside of Chinatown. Yes, there were lines outside and sometimes the wait would be an hour and a half long on the weekend mornings! It was so busy that they'd give out ticket numbers and call out the numbers on a speaker. Dim sum here is also not as expensive as say, Ming's, down the street and is a great option if you are looking for traditional, non-fusion dim sum! For regular Cantonese Chinese styled food, I suggest going to their other restaurant (literally walking distance from here), East Chinatown Restaurant. And stick to just dim sum at this location. Parking: if you can snag a spot right in front or on Billings Rd that is great! If not, there are spots on Hancock St usually. read more

Throw back spot. Hadn't been in along time but when they first opened went all the time. Dimsum's and dinner. Got a chance to stop back in recently for a family engagement dinner. Always great dim sum at decent prices. The best shrimp dumplings to boot. Their pan fried chive dumplings come in three and are filled with pork, shrimp, and chives. They don't really do the push carts anymore and you mark up a menu of what you want. Being able to order and eat fried squid at 10am is such a guilty pleasure. The dimsum here is top notch. If you come when they aren't serving dimsum, the other dishes are just average. Really have to come for the dimsum. The chang fun and all variations of it were all delicious. The fried dough sticks came out super crispy. The turnip cakes had such a nice sear on them. The sticky rice wraps were really good as well. Chashu buns were decent. The shumai were pretty good. Pan-fried buns were just average - bottom wasn't too crispy and there was way too much bun to meat ratio. Prices are super reasonable. My favorite dim sum place in Quincy! The food is always consistent every time I've gone. Some of the English translations on their menu are a bit odd, like har gow is translated to shrimp and asparagus dumplings for some reason when there isn't asparagus, but they also provide a menu with pictures for anyone who doesn't read/speak Chinese. The prices are very reasonable and they offer various types of tea, such as Pu'er (Bolay) and Chrysanthemum tea. Parking is as expected for Quincy, but I've never had an issue with finding street parking since the restaurant is on a road with free 2 hour street parking on both sides and around the block in front of some houses. read more

Been to a few different places in Boston and this place is the only place I have been to that is comparable to good dim sum in the Greater Toronto Area. Parking is not the easiest to find in the area (street parking) but definitely worth it. I live in Los Angeles and eat dim sum quite a bit. I was visiting a friend who lives in Quincy and we were craving some. I stumbled across this adorable place on Yelp and really wanted to try it. This place was incredible. From the prices to the sizes of the dumplings (they are STUFFED) and the quality of ingredients, this place is really hard to beat. I can confidently say it's better than 80% of places in the Los Angeles area. We ordered the Pork & Shrimp Shumai, Steamed Roasted Pork Bun, Pork Belly with Black Pepper Sauce, Roast Pork & Cilantro Rice Roll, Turnip Cake with XO Sauce, Fried Shrimp & Chive dumpling. It call come out to around $60 to feed 2 hungry men and 1 female with a rather large appetite. Don't forget to ask for a side of their chili oil. As a couple, we can almost always get seated immediately on a weekday or early weekend morning. The food is fine. It's not the best dim sum in the area, but it's reasonably priced and satisfying. They have all the standard dim sum options, and you order off a sheet or a laminated menu (no carts), so the food generally comes out hot and fresh. This is our go-to place, as we live nearby. You order off a laminated menu(with photos so that's a plus) with a dry erase marker and the food comes out carrot fast. Dimsum is average to me.
