I have had better. This is pretty bad. Very Americanized Chinese food. I had the dim sum which was alright, and a dinner plate combo. Honestly I'm preparing myself for food poisoning here soon. We did sit in the lounge instead of the family seating area because why not? And the pictures on yelp made it look like a cool place. When you walk into the lounge, the first thing you notice is the stale cigarette smell staining the walls, and the local drunks loudly discussing personal relationship issues. To the looks of it, many people on drugs or we're on drugs showing up asking for free food. Let's be clear about what this review is and is not about. This review IS about good, AUTHENTIC, Cantonese-style cuisine which Canton Phoenix serves up bar none. The location leaves a lot to be desired as it's in a nondescript strip mall, but the food is really, really good. This review will NOT address Chinese-American cuisine bastardized to fit Western tastes. If you want that, go to Panda Express. It's cheaper. Admittedly, had it not been for my friend's raving review about the dim sum here, I would have seen the restaurant and would have driven right past without a second glance. Any Chinese restaurant that advertises bar/lounge/video poker or lotto or whatever in my book usually means I skip it since I associate that with the aforementioned bastardized Chinese-American cuisine a la General Tso's chicken and crab puffs. I took a chance given the dingy outside... and was pleasantly surprised by how good the dim sum was. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and being ethnically Chinese, I know what good Cantonese cuisine is, and specifically, what good dim sum should taste like. This place has it. I thought I had previously found good dim sum at Wong's King Seafood, but they've had quality control problems of late. Canton Phoenix, smaller, more like a neighborhood joint is the real deal, folks. Other reviewers write about the decor and how there are Xmas lights up year-round... Really? Do you go to a restaurant to look at Xmas lights? Does it offend your delicate senses? If so, stop writing Yelp reviews because your headspace is all wrong. That all said, I am withholding 1-star for the decor of the place. It's fairly pedestrian inside Canton Phoenix with a mixture of booths and tables setup for patrons. I get the sense it was a fast food restaurant at some point in time (and agree they could gussy up the inside a bit) Other reviewers have said the service staff are rude; get over it. The food and menu here are very similar to those at Chinatown Restaurant in Beaverton (near the Nike campus) and that is a good thing. We were hesitant to go to a Chinese restaurant in Tigard since most Chinese restaurants in southern suburbs of Portland metro area (Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego) are not very good. We were pleasantly surprised how good this place is. We love Cantonese food and this place does a very good rendition of that cuisine. The service can be affected by a bit of a language barrier, but it is not a significant problem. The prices are reasonable as well. If you are looking for traditional Mandarin, Hunan or Szechuan cuisine, you may be disappointed. But as far as Cantonese cuisine is considered they do a pretty darn good job. We eat here quite often and love the Dim Sum as well as daily selection of fresh Chinese greens (vegetables such as Pea Vines, etc). read more

The food here doesn't taste good and it's not good for you. Why are people eating it? I have no idea... They were fast. We ordered and had food within 15-20 minutes. My cup of wonton soup consisted of two wontons sitting in hot water with some shredded iceberg lettuce. There was no flavor in the broth whatsoever. It was terrible. I couldn't identify any crab in the crab puffs, just cream cheese and greasy, deep-friend wontons. The entrees were unhealthy, fatty meals. No fresh veggies or nutrition whatsoever. When we stood up to pay we walked by the kitchen and smelled something along the lines of old, moldy, wet carpet. Gross. Used an Amazon Local deal. Redemption was unremarkable. Delivery was 30 mins past the estimate, so we were extra hungry when it finally arrived. Opened everything up and all three special orders were ignored, which wasn't great but it happens. As we ate we noticed a few things: 1. The sweet and sour sauce was like water in consistency and taste, as there was no flavor 2. The chicken tasted funky, as in like leave a bad taste in your mouth funky 3. I think we paid about $12 per person and ended up with tiny mountains of BBQ pork, fried shrimp, grab puffs, egg rolls, kung pao chicken, mongolian beef and fried rice. Usually with these family dinner you like 3/4 of whats offered but this one I am onboard 100%. The thing that makes us want to come back is that the quality of the meat and veggies they use is high. The service was absolutely horrible, but the food was great. Every time we would ask the waitress something she would say okay and walk away and never come back with what was asked for. We asked for straws 3 times before we ended up walking into the bar for them. We asked what kind of beer they had while deciding she walked off so we went to the bar to order them because she never came back. I would go again for dim sum as it was really good. Bland food served out of order (every time), i.e. appetizers served after the main or the main comes at the same time so the fried appys suffer for getting cold. This place is fucking awesome. And right now on Yelp they have a groupon type thing where you get 20 bucks worth of food for 10 bucks. If you are from the east coast and you are looking for Chinese food I suggest you go here! Because we are from Philly and we couldn't find ONE place in a year and a half that is remotely close to what we are used to. This place hit the spot! It was HUGE portions and great food! Omg. The soups were both amazing, the tea is awesome and the actual food is well priced and they have great variety plates. I really liked the sweet and sour chicken, the rice, the pork- omg, no one makes pork this good in Portland, I loved everything we got. Nice to have found this place. It's close by and the food is pretty good. Definitely a step up from most Americanized Chinese places. In fact, they had really good traditional Chinese greens, and good tofu dishes (we're vegetarian). The area isn't the best, but don't let that deceive you. Very close to home but after a couple of strikes, I've decided they're not worth keeping. First strike was that they missed an item of my order. The second strike was the determine factor, we ordered 3 dishes on Mother's day for takeout. 20 mins after taking my order, which my husband was already on his way, they called and said there is no clam to make Clam with Black Bean Sauce. I quickly changed it to shrimp so the order is quickly finish by the time my husband arrives. Clam was what my mother requested and it was a big disappointment that they didn't offer anything extra to comfort us. I took a chance and ordered (3) dishes I've never had before: Steamed yellow cream bun - (3) buns filled with amazing custard & delivered hot & soft House Special rice noodles - roast pork, chicken, shrimp, bok choy, carrots, noodles, & a great broth Sesame Shrimp - VERY generous portion of well fried & large shrimp. This review is solely based on the dim sum and congee. We did not order any of the entrees. We ordered baked pork buns, beef wrapped in rice noodle, shrimp wrapped in rice noodle, pork spare ribs, Shanghai dumplings, and chicken congee. The family enjoyed the dim sum and the generous bowl of chicken congee. I also felt that the service was better than the average Chinese Restaurant, which is why I bumped my review up to a 4. They got it right! We've been going to this place since we moved to OR in 2008, when it was Silver Palace. When it became "Lucky Bistro" we felt anything but Lucky. Prices were high, and they charged for rice with take-out orders. Huh? With the name change to "Canton Phoenix" and menu overhaul, however, they got it right. With LB, I couldn't get outta there for under 55 or 60 for my family of 7. Tonight, got out for under $40, and rice was included. Portion size was perfect for my family of 7 (ordered 4 entrees: Sesame Beef, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Veggie Lo-Mein, Vegetables in Garlic Sauce). And quality was better. Sesame beef was the best I've had, and the veggie lo-mein was great. Veggies had the appropriate crispness and were very tasty. I applaud the owners for listening to their customers and actually making changes. They got it right, and I'll keep coming back. Nice job, Canton Phoenix...and thanks for listening. read more

Love coming here for their dim sum which is served all day! They are so accommodating of our baby as well. We have been coming for years and will continue to do so. Every once in awhile we like to play slots in the lounge and the machines are usually open unlike crowded Shari's. read more

Late Saturday pm, up from Eugene and Jonesing for my too-long-deferred dim sum fix. Add a late night at Paul McCartney concert and no breakfast - yes, I was primed! But where to go in Lake Oswego? Ask Yelp! And that's how I ended up in this highway/mall-type old-style Chinese restaurant. Ambience is haphazard and basic, booths and banquet tables and kind of cheesy, like the Chinese-American places I grew up with. But they serve dim sum all day, and from a cart too. Decent selection (at 2:30 pm, beggars can't be choosers). Menu lists 24 types, including all the usual suspects. Ordered four, the wrapped shrimps were a little dried out but the pork ribs in black bean was excellent, and shumai was among the best I've had. So - a weak four stars. This is one of my all time favorite Chinese places in the Pacific Northwest! The food is super tasty and the staff are always pleasant. It's nice when you go somewhere and they KNOW you... I go here quite frequently, and they always know what I want and what I like to drink. I do like to change it up from time to time, but it's still great. The dim-sum is also fantastic! My go-to Chinese food places in the area. They have authentic dishes, along with some American Classics like sweet and sour chicken, if you aren't to adventurous. I am Filipino, so at times I crave a good Asian dish, and Canton Phoenix never disappoints me. I love the Salt & Pepper Shrimp, and House Chow Mein. I will definitely come back. They lunch is okay, more 2-3 stars. Very basic, and plain. I like dishes with more favor, which are more the authentic dinner dishes. But they hare huge! I had a craving for Chinese food for lunch one day a few months ago, and I didn't have time to grab take-out, so I decided to get it delivered. There was a $10 for $20 Yelp deal going and the reviews were pretty good, so I thought I'd give Canton Phoenix a shot. Meh. I ordered the mapo tofu and curry rice noodles Singapore style, both dishes which are supposed to be spicy, chock full of meats (even mapo tofu is generally made with ground pork) and full of flavor. What I got was extremely disappointing. The mapo tofu was lukewarm, and with a clear sauce. The gravy is supposed to be reddish-brown from all of the black beans and chili paste. There was no ground pork to be found. It was like the cook just mixed cornstarch and water together in a pan and then threw some tofu in. The Singapore noodles weren't as sad as the mapo tofu, but they still left me wishing for more. Singapore noodles traditionally have shrimp, char siu pork and eggs, and are tossed in a vibrant curry sauce. The Singapore noodles at Canton Phoenix were utterly forgettable. I can tell you what they were missing (all of the above) but I couldn't be bothered to remember what was actually in them. With the Yelp deal I ended up paying only $10 bucks for my lunch and what was supposed to be dinner that night, but it was so lackluster I ended up chucking out the leftovers. What a waste of money. Sorry, Canton Phoenix, but I won't be back again. read more

This review is for the bar only. Pretty disappointed. This is right around the corner from our place so it would be really convenient place for us to have a drink and donate some money to the state. (Playing the machines) but unfortunately they were very unfriendly and seemed uninterested in helping the customer. The bartender was more interested in taking her smoke break than helping us and told us someone else would be right with us. But then she stopped to chat and help another customer on her way out the door. I guess being friends with them is the only way to get service here. And the weirdest thing, when I went back up to get our second drink, she just remade it in the same glass. Never seen that before. read more

Went for dinner tonight and really enjoyed our meal. The staff was friendly and several people came by to check on us. All the food seemed fresh. I loved the hot and sour soup The pan fried pot stickers were pretty good Sauteed string beans, were yummy and salty. the general tso's was good, just a little sweeter than I like, I wouldn't have minded a little more heat. I've known this place since it was the Silver Palace and it is a major improvement, especially over it's Lucky Bistro phase. While not stellar, the food is consistently good and far less greasy than the Chinese restaurant down the street. I always try to order vegetable dishes, to keep things healthy but I do have a weakness for the Sesame Chicken, the Mongolian Beef, the Crab Puffs and the Hot and Sour Soup. ( Especially the soup, with all the traditional lily stems, wood ear and other exotic ingredients.) The staff is always friendly and courteous.. generally right on time with our needs and I've generally found the hot dishes to be hot, the cold ones cold... no issues with temperature or quality. Prices are reasonable. It' is not the cheapest place around but it is reasonable. Bottom line, it's good enough to become our local go-to for Chinese food. read more

My boyfriend and I are new to the area and came in this past Sunday evening. We paid at the counter, and proceeded to the bathrooms. I'm glad we went to the bathroom first before getting our food because there was literal fecal matter on the floor outside of the bathrooms, open-air to the buffet. The poop was trailing out of the men's bathroom where an employee looked as if he was begrudgingly cleaning it up.... The bathrooms were not blocked off at all. I just About puked, I called up and asked for a refund and said I will give them the soup to see and I took pictures. My family's favorite place to get Chinese food. The food is generally tasty. My son LOVES the sesame shrimp. I really enjoy the Singapore style curry noodles. My wife ordered a fish dish (slips my mind... rock fish in a clay pot i believe) and enjoyed it. The prices are fair and the portions are a good size. I haven't ever ventured into the bar; it seems to be fairly popular. read more

We ordered delivery from here a couple of nights ago and boy am I happy we did. It was delicious! We were very hungry and the hubby likes to have leftover Chinese food for lunch so we ordered a lot of food. We had: 1. Pot stickers 2. Crab Rangoon 3. Lemon Chicken 4. Sesame Beef 5. Kung Pao Chicken 6. Stir-fried shrimp, scallops & squid All of it was quite tasty. The fried items didn't travel too well, but that is kind of a given. The pot stickers came with a little cup of the pot sticker dipping sauce (yay!), and there was some sweet and sour sauce on the side (I guess for people who like to use it on the crab rangoon?). The Sesame Beef was nice and spicy and the beef was tender. The lemon chicken was delicious, even though the batter was kind of limp (see fried items not traveling well). Hubbs said the Kung Pao Chicken was great and the chicken was tender and plentiful. Also, the stir-fried seafood dish was amazing - lots of seafood, cooked to perfection. All-in-all I am very glad we tried Canton Phoenix. We'd been meaning to try them for a long time, since they are close to where we live. So, as a big plus now we don't have to drive to Sherwood or Portland for good Chinese food. I can hardly wait to go again. Next time - Dim Sum! read more

Updating my rating from 5 stars to 2, which I originally rated over a positive takeout experience. While ordering takeout goes smoothly with few problems, dining in is not a pleasant experience. I dined in once with one other person and it felt very awkward waiting for someone, anyone, to serve us. We didn't have an actual server, just one guy who quickly asked what we wanted before rushing off in a huff. The food came out in the wrong order and at random times, and the staff was all busy sitting on their phones or chatting at a nearby table while another was mopping/cleaning like the place was closed (even though this was an hour/45 minutes before they shut the doors.) I was very unimpressed with the bad service, dingy interior and unwelcoming cleaning going on while dining. They gave the impression that they were annoyed we wanted to dine in. I guess when you're just dealing with take out they are more ready to help you because the service I experienced over the phone and when picking up was never like this. This is my new favorite Chinese take out. Their menu is extensive, AND they have dim sum. I haven't had the latter but like that they sell it and trust that it's nice. What I had was: BBQ pork lo mein - nice skinny noodles, great balance of flavors. Not loaded with cabbage and onion as your cheaper places typically do to avoid providing more of the pricier components of a dish; in fact, there's no cabbage at all, and only a little bit of green onion for appearance. Singapore style chow mein - good, though the curry was a bit grainy. What I liked best was that I said no shrimps no onions and got exactly what I wanted. More often than not I'll get a yucky substitution like broccoli or something else I dislike and didn't ask for. General Tsos chicken- is it possible to mess this up? Shredded pork in garlic sauce- oh yeah. Too much onion but at least the dish calls for it. read more

They never disappoint. Food is fresh, delicious and not that burnt wok crap! Real cute family style place with a separate karaoke bar attached. Its in the parking lot with Harbor Freight since its a little hard to find right up until you pass by it. Parking is ample. Serving size is good and price is fair. Wife and I made this our new local place since we moved into the area. Jenny is a cute little firecracker! My wife loves her spunkiness. She is our favorite. Don't be concerned if the place is close to empty. They get a ton of pickup and delivery orders.
