This is a sad review to write, as I had high hopes for this place with all the wonderful reviews. I ordered a combo with sweet-and-sour pork and pork fried rice. In addition, I ordered pork egg foo young and salt and pepper chicken wings. As I was driving home, I snuck one of the chicken wings and ate it while I was stopped at a stoplight. It was delicious so I had high hopes about everything else I ordered. When I got home, I dished out everything for my partner and I. Again, the chicken wings were incredible and delicious. The pork fried rice was very good. The egg foo young was odd looking due to the yellow gravy, but the texture of the omelette was good, overall though it wasn't very good. The sweet-and-sour pork, though was where the problem arose. First, the pork was very tough and chewy like it was old. It also had a lot of gristle in it. The sauce had a very strange flavor and was very very dark. We each ate a couple pieces of sweet-and-sour pork and decided that something wasn't right about it. About two hours later, I was throwing up. About an hour later, my partner started throwing up. He ended up having severe stomach and abdominal pain. After about three hours of him heaving, I took him to the emergency room at Sutter. They did bloodwork on us both. My partner ended up having to have an IV because he was so dehydrated. I was basically fine. He tested positive for a foodborne illness. After 3 1/2 hours in the emergency room, he was finally released with a prescription. I was told to rest, drink lots of water and eat only bland foods. When I got home, I tossed all the remaining food in the garbage which was a lot of food over $40 worth of food tossed in the garbage. It took my partner two additional days to get back to normal. Never ever returning!!! read more

It's a hidden gem. I usually get their Wor Wonton Noodle Soup. I like the soup since it's not salty and does not have MSG like most places. I thought this place was a Panda Express until Alex told me to try their Hong Kong style Pan Fried Noodles. I will be back to try different dishes. I decided to try Canton after seeing it featured in an Instagram video. There is no indoor seating, it is just pick up. The first time, I ordered the sweet and sour, and honestly, I thought it was just okay--I've definitely had better. However, I absolutely love their veggie plate. On a rainy afternoon, my appetite rose and I decided to treat myself to some pork chow fun at Canton Restaurant on 47th. These days, all orders are for "to-go" here. It was not my first time there. To the uninitiated, the restaurant front doesn't look like much. I get them not wanting to put much into decorations in a sketchy neighborhood where so much gets vandalized. People still come here for their take-out Chinese food because it tastes good and the price is reasonable. A $13 chow fun order will get you enough food for 2 meals for. moderate eater. Not like these newer ramen places that charge nearly $20 and you get only enough food for a single meal. I made sure to order the chow fun dry-cooked (I don't like my noodles dripping). After not a very long wait, my order was brought to my car, and I was off to return home and dig into the dish. There's a generous serving inside the bag along with a nice big napkin and plastic fork. I noted that they'd include a piece of cardboard under the clamshell so it would "sit" flatter in the bag...this was much appreciated! Food was delicious! Lots of bean sprouts! Lots of yum. Hella legit Chinese food, family-owned very friendly service. Got the housemade chili oil sauce. I love spicy foods. Cantonese is my favorite genre of Chinese food. I ordered the basics. The chowmein here is exactly what chowmein is supposed to taste like, soo good. The fried rice was very good. The egg roll was different than any I have had. There was a particular spice in there that I enjoyed, but would not be common to the American pallet. It is take out only. Yummy! I completely understand why two dudes pulled up here just to order two eggrolls and then peace out the last time I was here waiting outside for my order. The eggrolls are just that delicious, and the biggest I have ever seen in my life. Don't let that fall on your foot, as my Grandpa would have said. They're also vegetarian! Woot woot! The menu has a dedicated vegetarian section, and several things can be made vegan upon request. I ordered orange tofu and eggrolls, and both were fantastic. You also get a ton of food so you'll have three meals at least in one, and for that price? Are they serious? I would absolutely order the orange tofu and eggrolls again, but I also want to try the different kinds of tofu dishes that they have available in the not too distant future. The guy who took our order was very kind and was the one who told me about the vegan mods if I wanted them. They do not have dine in yet in these trying times, so you'll have to either call ahead to order, or pull up, order outside, then wait for your food. There is a little shade so it isn't terrible on a hot day, and the wait is hardly anything at all. I think we waited 15 minutes once we had ordered. The parking lot looks mostly deserted but it is open during the posted hours on Yelp that I did check and see were up to date. There is plenty of room to park in the lot. It's pretty tough finding good food that doesn't break the bank these days. They have a solid selection of items. Ive got food here a couple times. The I've ordered chow Mein, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and Brandy chicken. The rice and chow Mein was a little on the greasy side nothing too overwhelming I ended up doctoring it up at home and it was tasty. The sweet and sour chicken was decent, but the Brandy chicken is no bueno. The brandy chicken was soaked in grease and even used Hell of paper towels to absorb the amount of greasy in the chicken. I took and bite and it was still too greasy for my taste that I ended up tossing it. Yuck! I would still order the other dishes. There are better Chinese food restaurants in Sac this one by far would be at one of the bottom of the list. The location is in a area, I wouldn't be at after dark as the location gives me the creeps. The customer service is always great and the interior is nothing special. This place is a solid 2.75 to 3 star. read more

The first time we came, we were recommended to get the pork wontons, he said they were hella good and they were!! I've been here multiple times. Ive had the tofu, orange chicken, chow mien, fried rice. Different days. The food was just all okay. Great Deal overall not expensive. Great portions, but the food itself just isn't something out of the ordinary. At least for what I've had on 3 separate occasions. Good service. I wanted to like this place due to several very good reviews of their Brandy Fried Chicken. I was craving this today and decided to try Canton's along with an order of pork fried rice. Suffice to say, I was disappointed. Both the chicken and the fried rice were a bit too salty for my taste. The cook got a bit too happy with the salt shaker. I wanted to really give Canton a higher rating but not this time. I will try again in the near future and see if they've corrected the salt issue. One can always add salt but not remove. For now Canton only warrants a 2 star rating. I had a hard time finishing one piece of 6. The crispiness is very good. Chicken is cooked well. read more

Okay, a friend suggested this place and was shocked I had never been here. There is no dine in but the service is top notch!!! We ordered by phone and when we pulled up we're greeted promptly by a very friendly man who made you feel like u were a regular off bat. I ordered the broccoli beef with extra gravy , Mongolian beef, house chow mein and orange chicken. Now the brocolli beef was amazing. The brocolli was cooked to perfection and the gravy was very tasty. Would definitely recommend ordering this. I also was pleased with the Mongolian beef, Tasty sauce and smothered with onions and peppers. Orange chicken this day was a little over cooked but will give it another shot next time. Chowmein was good but a tad more flavor WOULDNT hurt it. All and all a must try. I'm excited to try more items on this menu and believe me there is an array to choose from. A true neighborhood favorite where everyone knows everyone else and walks freely up to eachothers tables to say hello. Definitely a friendly vibe - the employees knew all the customers that walked in and what they liked to order. It was like watching a Chinese restaurant morph into Cheers. Food was delish. I was craving some noodles so I got the shrimp chow mein. Loads of fresh vegetables and juicy shrimp. Speaking of shrimp- the kitchen brought out some spicy shrimps to our table to try. Yum! Flavors are authentic and not bland. And thankfully, not too salty, which is what I usually run into with Chinese food. Quantities are massive, so be prepared to take at least half of your food home.
