Attended an 80th birthday banquet here. While we were at our banquet a separate banquet was also taking place in the next room. What was amazing is that the music from the other room was not at all interfering with the event I was attending. Great space for large events. Now to the food. Two large events and I'm sure the kitchen is busy, but you couldn't tell in the quality of the food. Every dish was served hot and freshly cooked. Packed with FLAVOR!!! Adj: dependably and predictably ok Chinese food We've been coming here for Chinese meals both sit down and take out from when they used to be Holiday Villa. That was decades ago. About 10 or so years ago, they changed ownership or rather they went through what seems like several changes and then they became Lucky Jade which is kind of a chain but not exactly. I recall at one time, the workers wear shirts that look kind of like uniforms with another store's name on the back with address and phone numbers, so apparently Lucky Jade is owned by people who also own a few other Chinese restaurants but not by the same exact name. In any case, Chinese food can be pretty formulaic, so it's not really that hard to have consistency as long as the cooks know how to make common standard dishes, the taste generally would not be too different. This is true for Lucky Jade. We had take out recently and got a chow fun, a chow mein, and a broccoli beef. The first was quite tasty, on the oily side but I've not found any place able to make it not too oily and still yummy so it's necessary for this dish. Then there's the chow mein, this one was not good. Kind of non descript and the oil tasted oil (reused). Not too greasy which is my biggest complaint of chow mein from elsewhere like New Lai Wah, but again, this did not taste fresh. Finally, the broccoli beef was overcooked. Broccoli was not quite mushy but almost, still a little bit of crunch but you can see they were turning yellow. And the beef was so chemically tenderized (hopefully only with baking soda and not worse) bc it was also almost mushy. Wasn't cheap either, but on par with other Chinese restaurants around here for take out. I think I'll just tell my in laws they can just order from Bel Air Hot Chinese food deli on Florin Rd which is in the same plaza and they'd pay less and the food would actually taste better with fresher oil (probably not reused) and better quality beef that doesn't need to be tenderized to a questionable quality. ok- how can a prior review go from a 4 star to a 2 star in less than a month? Here is my explanation. We had some friends over and decided to grab some traditional and non traditional Chinese cuisine for lunch. Hence we opted to dine at Lucky Jade for their diverse menu, accommodations to dishes due to allergy constraints, and fast service. So what did we order: 1) chicken teriyaki with sauce on the side: the entree arrived covered with teriyaki sauce. What was troubling, the server was trying to have our diner accept the kitchens mistake of covering the chicken with sauce..even when our diner refused, the server tried again to convince our diner to accept this dish. finally, the head wait staff told the server to take the item back to the kitchen. However, when the dish returned, the chicken was no longer grilled but fried. I hope the kitchen didn't rinsed the chicken off of the teriyaki sauce and deep fried the same chicken instead of grilling a fresh piece of chicken. Plus, our diners bowl of rice was forgotten and we had to remind the wait staff. 2) broccoli chicken w/fried rice: it was your basic american chinese dish and our diner only orders chinese combo plates. So he had no complaints. 3) Green bean chicken in black bean sauce: very nice black bean flavor, tender moist chicken but half of the green beans were old and stringy. The prep cook needed better prepping in food preparation- please toss out old green beans before the cooks prepare an entree- what was sad, this dish is always exceptionally well prepared in the past. Not today. 4) fried smelt: very good. no complaints on this dish. 5) chicken and asparagus in garlic sauce: moist chicken but again the prepping of the asparagus was lacking. When our wait staff informed us that they had fresh asparagus- we jumped to her reco. Unfortunately, this dish was served with the woody bottom ends of the asparagus. Which is tough, stringy, and just inedible. Plus, our dishes arrived at different times- in some cases 5-10 minutes apart. Perhaps the Kitchen staff had communication and food prep issues today. Not sure, but i would not recommend dining here on a Sunday. Perhaps the "B or C" team of cooks and prep cooks were definitely working tonight. And the wait staff should have caught the mistake from the kitchen and never served that dish...let alone, trying to push a dish that was not properly prepared or requested by the diner. Haven't been to this location since it was Holiday Villa. Tried the dim sum at Lucky Jade and it made sense why I haven't gone back since. The dim was not even close to being average. The fried items were overly fried, fried till there's no life left and the steamed items were mushy. The Shanghai noodles used their own "hand made knife noodles" and it was hard. This woman overheard us saying how bad each dish were and she blatantly shouted that they were super busy, too many tickets. Busy how so??? The restaurant was practically empty with the other half that wasn't even opened. There were five tables in total and three of them were in our party. The other two tables came later than ours so I'm not sure what the excuse was. Not sure if the chef was having a bad day, or if dinner tastes better, BUT....never again ... No thank you. read more

I probably wouldn't come again, though I suspect this place has potential! I drove by this morning while running errands and got a craving for delicious rice and shrimp! After a day of dreaming of honey walnut shrimp and fried rice, I came up... wanting... I'm not sure the broccoli had any salt at all and unfortunately that was the most flavorful of the lunch plate. I usually don't add soy sauce to meals once cooked but in order to taste the flavor of the rice I needed to add a full packet. 3 stars because the presentation was nice and perhaps the takeout DoorDash orders are rushed through flavortown instead of being given normal care and attention? This is the typical American Chinese food restaurant experience that many of us remember fondly from yesteryear. The dishes are as expected - all of the classics (egg rolls, chow mein, kung pao chicken, etc.) are here, the quality is good, the flavors are familiar, and the turnaround time is quick for a dish. Prices are average - not terribly expensive, but also not super cheap. The ambiance is also very "throwback" inside. The decor will be familiar to anyone who frequented American Chinese restaurants in the 90s / 2000s. It's comforting, but dated. We enjoyed the wor wonton soup, house chow mein, beef with broccoli (this one was surprising - the sauce was not what we expected, but it was tasty), and some fried wontons. We brought our big family in for a last minute lunch, and every single dish was absolutely on point. The Mongolian tofu and protein dishes were incredibly flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The noodles were another standout, not overly oily. Even the pickiest eater in the family gave it a two thumbs up. Service was quick, efficient, and so friendly, even with a larger group. Lucky Jade has been one of my go-to spots for local Chinese food, whether dining in or ordering takeout. While I've yet to try their dim sum, something I'll definitely have to do one day, all the items on their menu look delicious. Some of my favorites include their BBQ Pork Fried Rice and BbQ Chow Mein, which are consistently flavorful and satisfying. This time, we decided to DoorDash our order, and as always, the food didn't disappoint. We got the Hot and Spicy Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, and the BBQ Pork Chow Mein. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, with bold flavors that hit the spot. Updating my review, did they change their cook? My first visit here was 2 months ago and their food was awesome. I just ate there recently for lunch and the food that was ordered had large portions but no flavor. The wonton soup tasted like I was drinking a bowl of hot water with tasteless vegetables. First time ordering combination chow fun from here and it didn't taste like anything. Got some of my favorite dim sum, chicken feet with black bean sauce...but it tasted so bland I had to soak it in soy sauce to finish it. Also you may want to check the dishes and utensils before you start your meal. I saw it on the menu and glad I ordered it, the owner who was also the waitress told me the noodle was handmade. It was not your typical Shanghai stir-fried noodles, but it sure was delicious. Ok Lucky Jade.....I see you!!! (Again. LOL) It's been a long-time standing tradition I grew up having and carried over into my marriage, to enjoy Christmas Eve dinner having a traditional sit-down Chinese restaurant experience. I'm talking full-on (usually a Cantonese) "Family-style meal with the sharable entrees served on the center lazy-susan" type of meal! I've tried many different restaurants after our regular spot closed shortly after COVID. We tried spots on Freeport Blvd, and after the horrible fiasco of 2022 (that place is no longer around....no big surprise there!), 2023 meant we needed a new spot. That's when our first/initial time dining at Lucky Jade was, last year in 2023 on the suggestion of a fellow Yelpie (thanks Patrick Y!) who I know knows good Chinese food in this area. See, although I grew up in this part of town, I only now come when attending church down the street in Pocket/Greenhaven. So it's not often I have the opportunity to have a good sit-down meal. We gave Lucky Jade a chance last year and was not disappointed, as we needed somewhere open after 7pm (when I'm typically done singing for Christmas Eve service). The place was BUSY due to a party being held in their banquet room. The restaurant itself had a few tables with parties enjoying their meal, but enough open tables to suit smaller groups like ours (party of 3). We all remember the meal being good, so this year was attempt #2. Let's see if they fair a whole year later....... Christmas Eve 2024, no banquet room party we noticed, yet the parking lot was still pretty full. We walked in to see several empty tables with a few occupied, and were immediately seated. Same table as last year! LOL Our drink order of Jasmine tea and 1 can of Pepsi for Hubs was placed while we sat to look over the menu. Our usual guest left the ordering up to me/us. In that case, this is what I typically order every Christmas Eve for dinner: 1) Start with Wor Wonton Soup - this is a MUST! and theirs is SUPER delicious!!! Excellent broth, large wontons and choice meats, plus a good amount of veggies (carrots & bok choy--side note: I'm not a bok choy fan but they cook it so well I actually am ok with it in this soup!) Rating: 10/10!! 2) I also like some other appetizer, like gyoza or foil-wrapped chicken. I let hubby pick this time and was surprised he opted for shrimp tempura because he doesn't usually seafood, but will eat fried anything! lol These were light, crispy, not heavily battered, and enjoyed by everyone, served with sweet & sour sauce. Rating: 8/10 (It was tasty but felt the shrimp pieces were a little small) 3) BBQ pork fried rice - always gotta have a rice dish, mostly to serve the entrees with all the sauce over.....Mmmmm! BBQ pork is my standard go-to fried rice, but plain white is a great option. I think hubs didn't want white though. Rating: 10/10 Not greasy, lots of meats and veggies. Perfectly balanced. I also order 1 dish with chicken and beef, and sometimes pork. But since the rice had that, we just did chicken & beef. 4) For the chicken, I ordered General Chicken. Mostly because Hubs doesn't like a lot of veggies, and this was basically just deep-fried chicken chunks in a gooey sauce. It was good, still crispy even in all the sauce, but a little chewy texture in some pieces. Rating: 7/10 I probably would've much preferred the Green Beans w/Chicken dish and may need to remember next time when Hubs was open to the idea. Another goodie order would be Kung Pao Chicken. 5) Szechuan Beef - It's either this, or Mongolian Beef (cuz I enjoy a spicy kick), or Beef w/Broccoli. I think I'm the only one at the table that takes into account getting my greens in! LOL Since hubby likes spicy too, he usually eats around the veg, which in this dish came with zucchini, bok choy, carrots, and broccoli. You can see the small whole red peppers in the dish, but I could barely taste a spice and opted to add on top a drizzle of hot chili oil to punch it up a bit. Yumm-O! Everything was magnificent!!! Even better than we remembered from last year, solidifying its place as being our new go-to Christmas Eve dinner location! Not only was the food phenomenal, but the friendly family service matched. They checked on us periodically but not too much, and were just so pleasant. We ended up being there close to close-time of 9pm, and never did we feel from them rushed to leave. But we made sure not to stay past 9pm, because after all, it was Christmas Eve and we don't want to keep them from being with their families. So.....all that to say, Lucky Jade is definitely a place I can recommend you go to for a wonderful traditional Chinese meal. I think they dim sum on the weekends too, but not sure myself. Banquet room, side semi private room, main dining room, etc. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 9pm. Plenty of mall parking. Service - 5+ stars! Clean plate club for sure! Went here on a Sunday afternoon and ordered chow mein, chow fun, wor wonton soup, hunan eggplant, crab Rangoons, and sweet and sour pork. Everything was so fresh! The restaurant was very clean and quiet, and the staff were friendly and polite. We ordered to-go and the food was ready in 20 minutes. The portion sizes are beyond excellent! The hunan eggplant is an underrated dish off their menu for sure! The wonton soup is light and comforting. We appreciated that the fix-ins were packed separate from the broth. Food came out quickly, decent and fair price, but kung Pao beef was a little salty for my taste bud. Menu was not as extensive as most Chinese restaurants, limited choices. They didn't have my pea shoots veggie so, star knocked off a-bit for not having my favorite dishes. Service was good, and the older ladies server makes you feel like you're at your auntie's home for food, they are very helpful. The owner did came out to help micromanaged a bit. Ambiance was comfortable, tables were spaciously spaced out, not overly crowded like most restaurants. Gratuity are included for more than 6 people at 20%. My boyfriend and I tried out Lucky Jade at least three times now and each visit has been solid. The ladies who work directly with the customers have been incredibly friendly. They're fluent in English and don't seem to mind our rusty Cantonese. We've had nothing but great interactions so far. The restaurant is located in a dingy area near ABC Bakery. It honestly doesn't look very impressive and the restaurant isn't popping with customers, but they seem to get a lot of takeout orders. The menus offered is organized by American Chinese cuisine and chef's specials that's more authentic. Everything we've tried has had great flavor and texture. The amount served as a dine-in customer has been massive, so we go home with plenty of leftovers. Food also comes out fairly quickly. This place is an absolute hidden gem! read more

I am still in search of a good Chinese restaurant since Regent has closed. I thought I would try this place; it was lunch time. My initial impression was not the best, not very many cars in the parking lot, of the 5 families eating only two were Asian. The place was brightly colored and very clean. I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp to go, and it came with chow mein and steamed broccoli. The Walnut Shrimp was delicious, the chow mein was good and a generous portion, the broccoli was average. I expected a larger portion for the Honey Walnut Shrimp since it was $13. I will explore other dishes in the future. read more

A little gem next to ABC bakery! We only heard about it because we read FB that chef Yang from Yang Noodle is there now and I love that store!!! Now with the merge I can eat both Cantonese food and Chef Yang's goodie in one location! YAY! Service is excellent. We ordered take out via phone and then line up at ABC. Perfectly timed and food was almost ready when we finished our ABC purchase! We got Cantonese fried chicken, beef chow fun, Chef Yang's beef roll, chive box, pancakes, and other goodies. All the dough food was freshly rolled and cook and takes longer. Their food is delicious. Mr he ambience is also very nice. Remind me of Hong Kong in late 80s/early 90s! Love that era! We had lunch at Lucky Jade on a weekday, arriving a little after 11:00 AM. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We ordered a combo of dim sum dishes and beef Chow Mein, Hong Kong style. Our food didn't arrive until 30 minutes later and several dishes didn't come out for almost an hour. The dim sum dishes didn't have any flavor, just oily. The chow mein was good. We've had take out from Lucky Jade, usually American style Chinese food, which is normally pretty good. The dim sum was horrible, maybe just give up the dim sum. read more

Was looking forward to checking out the rebirth of Holiday Villa so we dropped in on a Sunday Morning for dim sum lunch. Much to my surprise despite the name change some of the previous owners were still there. A new owner joined the previous group and changed the name. There were no carts for Dim sum and only the front of the restaurant was open for service. Our food came out in decent time and was decently portioned however it was seasoning in every dish. The green beans with beef in black bean sauce looked wonderful but were bland to the taste. Hopefully the cooks will get their act together and season appropriately. I ordered food lunch delivery here. Huge portion size for a lunch-sized combo (food filled the whole Styrofoam carton). Definitely not bad for $9.95 in that regard. Taste-wise though, the food was like very average Chinese food takeout fare. I got the sweet and sour pork lunch combo. Although the sweet and sour pork was tasty, it was very mushy; there was a pool of oil/sweet and sour sauce at the bottom of the styrofoam carton. The chow mein could have used a bit more time on the wok (noodles were a little too chewy).
