My family and I visited Canyons Barbeque and got there around 11am. It was our first time here and we were amazed at their wide selection of meats. We ordered two of the two option plates with two sides each. For meats, we tried the tri-tip, burnt ends, brisket, and chicken. Sides were mac and cheese, fries, potato salad, and beans. All of the meats were flavorful and had a really nice smoky flavor. The burnt ends were SO good! They were saucy, tender, and juicy. Definitely a standout! The brisket was also very tender with a great smoky flavor and just the right balance of saltiness. The chicken was tender in most parts, and the tri-tip was cooked well, though it was a little dry. My favorite side was the mac and cheese. My kids devoured it. It wasn't overly cheesy and had a really nice flavor. We also enjoyed the fries, potato salad, and beans. The service was great! Everyone was so kind, helpful, and patient with us while we ordered, especially since it was our first visit. The restaurant itself is super clean and well maintained. We loved the outdoor seating area. It's so spacious, open, and has such a nice vibe. The smoker outside was a fun touch and smelled so good! For dessert, we had the cherry cobbler and it was delicious. It had a nice sweetness without being too tart, a great crunch on top, and the two scoops of ice cream made it even better. Was looking for a yummy salad for dinner and remembered canyons bbq has good options. Ordered the Santa Maria which comes with 1/2 lb tri tip on top and a full size garden salad with 1/4 lb of their spicy tri tip along with baked beans for pickup. Service was quick and food was ready within 10 min. The salads were fresh and the tri tips were soooo yummy. I'm not much of a bbq person, but the meat was packed with Smokey flavor. The baked beans were also flavorful and balanced between beans and meat. It also had a nice consistency, not too chunky or watery. Look forward to trying some of their other menu options! read more

It had been a while since I last ate here, so I decided to check it out again. I ordered the tri-tip meal with beans and mac and cheese for $20, which also came with cornbread. While the food was tasty, I do wish all my food had been hotter, as it was more lukewarm than expected. Ordering was done at the counter and was incredibly fast--my food was ready immediately after I paid and I was able to take it straight to my table. The restaurant has about six tables, along with self-serve drinks and barbecue sauce. There's also a bar that offers well beers on tap. The tri-tip was tender and flavorful with good marbeling. The mac and cheese was very cheesy, though I wished it had a bit more seasoning. Was craving some BBQ, so I ended up DoorDashing from this place. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. The brisket was extremely salty, the ribs were just okay, and the mac and cheese was very bland with basically no flavor. The cornbread was extremely dry and honestly tasted like ass. I definitely wouldn't spend $60 here again, and I probably wouldn't give this place a second chance. read more

I bought takeout through Doordash pickup since I still have remaining credits from a gift card. I bought the ribs with 2 sides combo $25. When I got there, I realized ordering at the restaurant is only $22 so I should do that next time. They forgot my free Andes chocolate mint for my order. The garlic bread is a little bit burnt but still tasted good. It's on a soft bread instead of a baguette. The ribs, corn bread, and coleslaw were really yummy. I'm glad I tried this place out here in the East Bay after hiking with my friend, since there is a lack of yummy bbq at a good price in SF. There is free customer parking up to 3 hours in the back. We had lunch here for the 4th of July on the patio with our dog. The service was fast, and food was decent! I wouldn't rank it top BBQ in the east bay, but i appreciate the ambiance and again the food was good. The only thing lacking for me was absence of greens on the sides menu. Been there 3 times and the brisket is pretty decent as well as the pulled pork (though not a fan of the ciabatta roll for the sandwich). I always seem to end up with the end of the rack ribs so they were dry/overcooked (did get a couple of good juicy ones though). Fries were hot and salted just right. The other sides left a little to be desired to me so take it for what it's worth -- they're serviceable. The cornbread on each visit was dry and bland. The garlic bread, while tasty, was a bit chewy. The atmosphere and customer service were a 5 out of 5. Debbie was super friendly. Unfortunately the food didn't quite measure up. Pulled pork and Brisket were about a 7 out of 10. They were just too dry and not much smoke flavor. My kids loved the Mac & Cheese. Garlic bread was good. Fries were basic but good. The original BBQ sauce is really good though. I did enjoy this. What the......?? How can this place have 4.5 stars. Went there yesterday and by far the worst BBQ I've ever had. My son got the pork with mac n cheese. Pork flavorless and dry, the Mac was a white paste. No flavor. I got the burnt ends. So salty couldn't even eat it, had to return it. And the beer was warm. My brother had a hot link sando. Bars hot link on a bun with red onion?? WTF.... Other than that it's a nice environment patio seating etc. but the food is garbage!!! read more

Ordering is done at the counter, but you must wait to pick up your order before.securign.a table outside. So it is best to have someone in your party to wait for the food.while the other secures the table. Prices are higher, and the food taste is solid. It's close to my birthday and I received an email giving me several days to eat at Canyons and receive a $15 discount. On top of that, I had joined their "club" program and had another $32.10 in credits. Definitely needed to take advantage! I ordered and paid via the website. Walking in a few minutes before our order was due, the order taker told me that it was coming right up. We chatted for a couple of minutes while the kitchen put the finishing touches on our order. She asked if I wanted mild or spicy BBQ sauce and I asked for one of each which she gladly supplied. We were taking the Beast for her monthly dog bath. Lunch would be afterwards. Post dog wash, we headed over to a nearby park with picnic tables, clean restrooms and plenty of space to walk the dog. We had ordered: Rack of Pork Ribs - 4 - Tender and moist. Individual ribs for easy eating. Burn't Ends - 2 - Too much sauce, not juicy meat. This item was disappointing. Mac & Cheese - 2 - Nothing special. We would have been happier with a blue box. Cole Slaw - 3 - A simple vinegar-based slaw. Passable but nothing to write home about. The counter service was very good. The kitchen staff didn't seem to enjoy their jobs. Most BBQ places that we've been to, the kitchen staff have almost always been friendly and welcoming to their guests. Overall, the venue looks clean and welcoming. Often, when we've driven by, guests look happy. Maybe we just had the misfortune of going on an off-day. There are many good BBQ places in the Bay Area and even a couple of great ones. read more

I really enjoyed our meal here.I took off one star because the macaroni and cheese was weird.It was not very cheesy.And it reminded me of box mac and cheese.It did not have much flavor but everything else was absolutely delicious.I also reduced one star because service was a little inconsistent Staff gave us the wrong order, which was totally fine.Because mistakes happen, and it was no big deal.But the server was extremely rude about it.When the pair next to us confirmed that the order that was being delivered to us mimicked the order that they had put in. I went in on Saturday evening with my daughter because she's a BBQ girly, I've been here 1x when they first opened but I didn't really order any meals. The young man who helped me at the front was very chill & laid back, he was honest & helped me with what to order (I tend to ask people what they recommend) I ended up getting a tri-tip meal I believe it was around $20 it came with 1/2 a pound of meat 2 sides and your choice of bread (honestly a great price) along with the same thing for my daughter but as a kids meal. 1 beer & a small fountain drink. I spent around $49 (including a 20% tip.) The meat was done very & my daughter enjoyed the garlic bread I'm honestly really picky about sides so I opted for a bag of potato chips and coleslaw which is some what vinegar based but honestly I wasn't really a fan. There was a manager there he was a taller brown man & he was sooooo kind & polite to my daughter & myself he was just a sweetheart. We sat outside by the fire pit which was nice because it was a beautiful evening & socialized with a few other parents & children there. I went to Canyons BBQ and had an amazing experience. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and it was absolutely mouthwatering delicious. I couldn't have asked for a more tender tri-tip sandwich. One thing to know is that tri-tip is one of the harder meats to cook and a California staple, so I was definitely anxious when I ordered this. The sandwich can be a hit or miss type of order and Canyons BBQ did a great job making sure that the meat was smoked to perfection. The bread was soft, warm and delicious and the fries were crisped to perfection. We are really lucky to be able to have such a neighborhood staple. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it's easy to find because of the amazing smells that are wafting from the premises. Overall, it was a great experience. They have a huge selection of draft beer on tap. They give out beer samples if you can't decide what to pair with your order. The staff is incredibly friendly. Im not entirely sure how many years this place has been here but I am definitely happy to have finally given this place a try. Having just moved to Castro Vally 6 months ago, finding good eats has been a fun adventure so far. My go-to BBQ spot prior to moving was The Smoking South and I need to first say God Bless the man that owns that place, he is a sweet heart. That being said, Canyon's bbq is absolutely delicious and a winner with my family. I haven't tried their chicken yet but I have tried their ribs, tri-tip, brisket, and burntends and they are all delicious. Personally, I love the brisket the most. The restaurant space inside looks spacious and there are plenty of beers on tap and cans to try out. As for their sides, I really love their mac and cheese. I tend to pickup my order around 6 for dinner so I usually place my order online earlier in the day. They usually have everything but if you wait too late, they might run out of a meat choice that you like. Staff is very friendly everytime I have come in to pickup my order. As for parking, most people just park across the street behind Chipotle since their lot is spacious enough. read more

Canyon Barbecue is a solid bbq establishment in the East Bay. Service is quick and friendly, their beer selection is extensive, and their soda fountain has unique and tasty beverages. Plenty of seating both inside and out, but I would recommend the outdoor patio if the weather seems appropriate. I've in been for lunch, so I tend to mostly get sandwiches, and their strength is definitely the Tri tip. I'll likely opt for a plate next time to get down on carbs, I just wish they offered greens or some other veggies as a side, other than cole slaw. read more

Great spot for barbecue in Castro Valley! They have a nice outdoor patio when it's warm outside and a large indoor seating area for colder days. Everything is self service. You order inside at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready. When you're done, you put your own trays and trash away. I was starving as we had just finished a hike nearby, so I got the 2 meat combo ($26) with tri tip and brisket with chips and baked potato as my sides. Of the two meats, the brisket was my favorite as it was nice and fatty, but the tri tip was solid as well. I was stuffed from just the meats and bread, so I took the baked potato home for later. My friend got the large chicken meal for $17.50, but I wouldn't recommend it. I tried a couple bites and it was pretty dry. My friend didn't like it either. If you're into beers, they have a large selection of beers on tap. You can either get a flight of 3 beers for $18 or various sized pours. I love coming to Canyon's for the family feel and atmosphere. The staff is always super welcoming and accommodating, ready to recommend their favs from their expansive menu. The food is delicious -- the portions are generous and I would say reasonably priced. My fav part is their wide selection of beer on tap. It's refreshing and they did a good job. Usually I order the BBQ spud with brisket and it's always cooked to perfection. I wish their Mac and cheese was a bit creamier but I think they just prefer to bake it for a while. Overall, I love coming here with my family and sitting outside. They're located in the central part of CV so we love to stroll after our meals too. Cornbread a little dense but good to soak up all the other good juices on the plate. Location is good, lots of stuff nearby to make a night out of it.
