Good size venue with plenty of outdoor seating. Your typical BBQ joint with a decent amount of seating inside including a few Bar seats. Everything is just OK. I'd avoid this place if you are craving goof BBQ, unfortunately NOTHING was good for us here. We had a big group too, birthday celebration outside, we took over 5 tables outside! Nobody raved about the food...in fact some folks went to neighboring venues and picked up some other eats... #MediocreBBQ: 2 Meat COMBO: ~ BRISKET - 3/5 The best thing here, but still not all that good compared to other places, doesn't fall apart or melt in your mouth. ~ TRI TIP - 2/5 Um...very mediocre. Tough and chewy, we struggled to cut it with the knife provided. At least the flavor was decent. SIDES: ~ Beans - 2.5/5 Nope. Nothing special. The sauce is OK, a bit of a warm mouthfeel. ~ Mac & Cheese - 2/5 Edible, that's about it. I can make a much better Mac & Cheese. I had better store bought Mac & Cheese! ~ Garlic Bread - 2/5 Umm....this was just toasted bread. Couldn't taste the Garlic and barely had any butter. At least it was toasted. PASS... Only reason I haven't given this Canyons Barbeque a lower rating was for the healthy beverage selection and the interaction with the staff. Service was quick & easy with a menu card & a menu board. Customer service is amazing with Jesse stopping by tables to ask how everything was. This kind hospitable gesture is not a lost art at Canyons BBQ. Order: Half Rack Rib Combo w/Coleslaw, Mac n'Cheese & Cornbread where the ribs are meaty & tender. Always a staple for me when I visit. The coleslaw had the perfect crunch of freshness & flavor that keeps me wanting more. Mac n'Cheese was cheesy & could have used more milk to make it not so dry, but it was nice & flavorful. The cornbread had a nice cornmeal texture & bc not a lot of sweetener was added, i really enjoyed it. Dessert: Cherry Pie ala mode is now my new favorite. While I was waiting for my food, she kindly offered me a hot cup of coffee, which I thought was a thoughtful gesture and really showed her commitment to great customer service. She also took the time to tell me about the promotions they have going on and the live band events. This is the first good BBQ spot I've found in the Bay! My family of picky eaters all agreed that this was great food; my MIL and husband loved the brisket, I enjoyed the ribs. The vibe is very inviting; this seems to be a cool locals spot to hang out at. Indoor (including bar) and outdoor seating, and at the time of our visit live music on the outside patio. Brisket 8/10 -- moist, well seasoned, well charred Ribs 7/10 -- delicious, but on the thin side; wish I had ordered more Mac n cheese 6/10 -- wished it was baked! Ordered the 2 meat meal combo and chose the brisket, tri-tip, mac n cheese and beans. Everything was just ok. Flavor of the brisket and tri tip were good but not amazing. The tri-tip was actually a bit salty for me. Both were chewy, not tender, and kind of dry and there were only 2 types of BBQ sauce and both were also ok. The Mac n cheese was bland and the beans were so-so. The garlic bread didn't seem to have much butter or garlic and just tastes like lightly oiled white bread. I liked the pickled cucumbers and onions. Probably won't be back unless I had to. The outdoor patio area was cool. read more

I just realized I never reviewed Canyons! I feel like it's been a long time since we've had reeeally good BBQ in this area, so I love that since Canyons opened, they have never been a miss! Every time we go, we always get brisket, pulled pork, and tri tip. Their meals come with 1 slice of garlic bread but we always get extra. I also LOVE the pickled red onions and jalapeños that come with every meal. *drool* The first time we went was in winter of 2023 and it was VERY popular - which meant their dining room was so cramped. The front staff are great. The cooks were struggling in the back trying to get orders correct. My wife and I ordered a farmer salad and a 2 meat combo. The salad dressing had to to be scooped out of the cup and had a consistency thicker than mayo. The brisket that should have been the star of the show was very very dry. It did not pull apart. It was not fork tender or melt in your mouth. I had to saw it with the butter knife. Very disappointing. Canyons started out strong but the food quality has really slipped. First of all, this parking lot is a nightmare. Easier to do street parking out front or park at the lucky's plaza and walk here, because never again. I drove up from LA and decided to make a stop here during my trip for some Bbq. I ordered two 2 meat plates, one with burnt ends and ribs, side of mac and cheese, coleslaw and some garlic bread. The other plate had turkey and burnt ends, with a side of beans, coleslaw and corn bread. The ribs were really good, especially with the bbq sauce. They had a lot of meat on them and wish I'd ordered more of those. The burnt ends were a little salty, like a beef jerky texture, definitely not my favorite. The coleslaw was pretty dry and the mac and cheese was okay, it had a garlicky taste to it. The beans were super watery, and not sweet like baked beans. I love corn bread but this one was a disappointment as it was dry and not sweet. If you've been to Gus's Bbq in Pasadena, this corn bread was not like that at all. We ordered to go and our order didn't have the pickles and jalapeños so that was a bummer. Overall this was place was just mid, and won't go out of my way to come back here. read more

This review is for their catering service! Ordered the Smokehouse Spread and Big Twenty for a birthday party at Kennedy park in Hayward. Easy online ordering system and food comes with plates, cutlery, serving utensils, moist towelettes and napkins. That makes for a super easy party! They provided great delivery service and called when they were on the way and then when they arrived at the park. They arrived early and had their own wagon for all the food. Super friendly and even made two trips to the car for all the food. EVERYONE complimented how delicious the food was and asked where I ordered from. We had an adventure yesterday in Castro Valley. After visiting the Castro Valley Marketplace, we discovered a BBQ Joint called Canyons Barbecue. I got a two-meat plate with tri-tip and pork ribs. The combo comes with cornbread and a choice of two sides; I chose mac and cheese and garlic bread. My friends got the brisket and rib combo with mac and cheese and baked beans. The BBQ was lip-smackin' good. The tri-tip was my favorite, both tender and flavorful. I will definitely return when I'm in the area because the food was that good. It's only a 30-minute drive, so it's not bad at all. Make sure to get some of the sweet-and-spicy cucumbers! OMG, they're the BOMB! In addition to great food, they offer a wide selection of craft beers. A clean restaurant, friendly, and fast service rounded out the great meal!
