If you're looking for a cute, independent coffee spot in Gloucester, you have to stop at Cape Ann Coffees. The coffee shop and cafe has a wonderful selection of flavored coffees. Here, the flavor is from the beans, not artificial syrups or flavorings. The Vanilla Coffee is some of the best I've ever had and the flavor is truly incredible. Game changer. In addition to the spectacular coffees, they also have a phenomenal tea selection. My favorite is the iced passionfruit tea with a splash of lemonade. Incredibly smooth, not overly sweet like the chain version of this iced tea! They also have a phenomenal selection of jewish-style bagels, breakfast/bagel sandwiches, pastries, muffins, quiche, and much more! We stopped in to grab iced coffee/tea + breakfast to enjoy down at the beach! I'd highly recommend the Smoked Salmon Bagel Sandwich. I ordered it on an everything bagel. It comes with creamy cream cheese, juicy tomatoes, onions, and capers. It was hands-down one of the Top 3 Smoked Salmon/Lox sandwiches I've ever had! Everything was bursting with flavor and was incredibly fresh! Prices are reasonable and the quality is unmatched! I am up in Gloucester frequently and cannot believe I've driven by this place so many times without stopping. It's a true Gem and the owner is very involved. She is incredibly kind and served us both inside and at the drive-thru! I love owners that are willing to roll up their sleeves and take pride in their business. A short one, as I visited only once. More of a homey spot than one for a coffee snob. I thought our cafe lattes were a little weak, but in fairness to the house, maybe I should have requested due cappucini instead, or asked for an extra shot in mine. It was early. The baked goods, a chocolate dipped biscotto, and an oatmeal cookie, were both excellent. Service was efficient, I went inside rather than wait in the line of cars. Hardly any wait. Cute little place for a quick coffee and small breakfast. The Salmon Lox bagel is great. Coffee and latte were delish. They have 7 or 8 tables if you'd like to order and sit but not quite a full-service dining type of joint. The cinnamon rolls and quiche also looked amazing so we'll have to come back! Ham, egg, and cheese and a medium iced coffee. Done and done. The coffee is fresh and light. The service is always with a smile, and relaxed. The breakfast sandwiches are out of this world! Even with the amount of chocolate and milk that goes into making one, I could still taste the intense flavor of espresso, which is typically where places go wrong. They offered their iced americano to be made with iced coffee, essentially making it a red-eye, which was a nice touch too. Again, the espresso flavor was quite pronounced, while being very smooth and not bitter at all. They also sold homemade quiche, which I am a sucker for, and is rare nowadays. read more

This is a great place for locally roasted coffee. Their regular brew is very nice. No burnt notes or harsh acid flavor. Very smooth and pleasant to drink. A nice selection of pastries, muffins and the like for breakfast. They also make above average breakfast sandwiches on toast, english muffins, or bagels. Visited Gloucester for two weeks, and stopped in to Cape Ann Coffees almost every day. What makes a local business a community 'hub'? I don't know, but Gloucester does. I noticed families and all generations made this place home, as we did. Somehow there was always room for us, though it was usually busy. The crew was super. (Note to Jordy, might try giving them another chance man, you're missing out.) I loved the salads and breakfast sandwiches. We never did the drive-through but I would if I lived there, for sure. The tables were comfortable and beautiful, the food was delicious, & the coffee was too. They bake the goodies themselves, including the amazing Danish birthday cake. The owners are friendly and go out of their way to get to know their regulars. The food is fresh and made to order. None of the Dunkies or McD's breakfasts here. Just a quick update... I've found myself at Cape Ann Coffees three times in the last week, and I'm appreciating them more than ever. Depending on when you go, there isn't much of a line (even in the morning crunch when other places are packed) and the staff is very friendly and quick with your order. I am now addicted to the iced vanilla chai latte. So good! The price is reasonable too. I definitely want to urge every coffee lover that comes through Gloucester to give Cape Ann Coffees a chance. But only 4 stars because I can't understand why the owner doesn't destroy the nest where the yellow jackets come out every summer for years now and ruin our meal every single time my 85 year old mom want to enjoy our meal on a warm day out on their terrific patio.
