OMG, Cape Fear Rum Cake, at 114 North Front Street in Wilmington, has become one of those places we can't stay away from. We don't stop in as often as we're in town (our loss, honestly) but it has never disappointed in all the years we've been coming here. The rum cakes are moist, and the flavor range is wide, gluten-free included. Usually the owner is there, or someone in the family. They take real pride in the work - and they should - cause it's incredible! The cakes make good gifts, too. Each one gets vacuum-sealed, so it stays fresh for up to six months. If you're one of those folks who say "I usually never have rum cake unless I'm on vacation in the Carribbean"....change that and come here! read more

We were visiting from Wisconsin and stopped to buy cakes from the bakery in Wilmington then on Saturday visited a craft fair and they were there selling the rum cakes so we had to buy more because they were so delicious! What a wonderful treat! read more

I would have given a 4 but a 5 was due to great customer service and quickly returned emails with a shipping issue. I have been buying Rum Cakes off and on for several years and they are always very tasty. I can buy them locally at a shop in MB but I do use their shipping to send cakes to MI and OH. read more

I so much love this place! I actually first found them at a giant Christmas show in Cincinnati. I had heard of CFRC on a visit to Carolina Beach one summer. So I decided to stop by, buy one or so (after sampling them), and make some conversation with the owners. I found out their connection to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky. Their cakes are so amazing! It's just $7 for the 5 oz rum cakes ($9 for gluten free). They're affordable and delicious. The service from Cape Fear Rum Cake is always amazing. It's become one of my "have to" stops whenever we head to Carolina Beach. They do have a tent at the Carolina Beach Market on Saturdays. There are 3 sizes available - 5 oz (1-2 people), 16 oz (6-8 people), and 32 oz (10-12 people). There's a variety of flavors and usually a seasonal flavor (Key Lime for July). There are also several Gluten Free options. These cakes are nice and moist with a lot of flavor. The rum isn't overpowering either. I love supporting small businesses like this! My husband stopped in to grab a few rum cakes while in Wilmington to bring home. You can choose a 5oz, 16oz or 32oz cake. We tried a 5oz golden vanilla, pistachio, dark chocolate and lemon. Every year since, I've made sure to pass a few cakes off to friends and family for the holidays. Not too sure about the other review, but our experience was awesome. We were visiting the Riverwalk and just happened to notice this great little bakery. As we entered this quaint establishment we were greeted with mouthwatering sensory overload. There were some fresh Rum Cakes on the rack and every flavor boxed up and ready to go. The gentleman working was apparently one of the owners and was very nice to talk with and offered to answer any questions we may have. After looking at the options of flavors to choose from, we decided on Rum Velvet. The other choices are Golden Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Pineapple, and Cherry Chocolate. While staying nearby at a rental location within walking distance to Cape Fear Rum Cake their hours are posted as "Winter hours 11-5". Gosh, it is spring almost summer. Stopped by the shops in this location and Cape Fear Rum Cake no one is inside as if the place is now closed! I agree with another reviewer, they are extremely disappointing and lack basic customer service skills. I normally dont even like rum cake but this place is fantastic!! I found this location by accident. My husband and I were taking a walk nearby when we both stopped and said "What is that, we need to find out where that crazy good smell is coming from!" Warning: Don't order if it's for a special occasion. Extremely disappointed in their customer service. Ordered 12 days before I needed them and still don't have them 18 days later. And when we inquired 10 days ago, they said they were swamped with holiday orders, so they were behind. And they weren't expecting this? (Not like we waited till the last minute. Ordered on Dec 3rd.) Then after waiting 18 days, sent another email, and they informed us that they were sending a refund as we were being jerks. And they still hadn't shipped them!
