This review is SPECIFICALLY for Andrea :) I was referred to her by a fellow curly girl who SWEARS by the Deva cut. Having spent years with relaxers, blow dryers, flat irons, hair masks, and any other anti-curl propaganda you can think of, I was desperate for someone to fix my curls. I've got tight fractal/zig-zag-ish curls, but I wear it natural with zero product. Andrea was ready the second I walked in, offered me some bomb.com tea, and then got to work. She explained my hair type, what kind of damage I have, and how she would do her best to keep the length but rid me off the damaged spots. The dry Deva cut was magical and WAY faster than I thought. It took about an hour. No brushes or combs are used. Then she took me over for a wash, finger-combed some AWESOME conditioner into my hair, and then dried it with paper towels. I was under the dryer for about 20 minutes, during which I got to see all the other amazing stylists at work. Finally, she took me back to her station, told me to flip my hair over and shake it out, and presto! Healthy bouncy curls for you! And you! And you! My fresh cut looks really short... Because my curls are actually curly again! So don't fret if your cut looks a little more cropped than you'd signed up for. It's all an illusion. Your hair is just so happy it can't stop curling. The worst and most embarrassing hair cut ever! I have curly/wavy hair, but not tight tiny African style curls; nevertheless, I was given a hair cut and styling with so much water and product that my hair looked wet and kinky and like a bad permanent from the 1950's. And it was too short to put up. I got the hair-cut/purported styling the night before a very special event I was attending out of town and was stuck feeling and looking more unattractive than I ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE. The cut was like a pattern very tight curled cut not meant to fit anyone in particular and was utterly unsuited to my actual hair and face. I traveled across country just to make sure that my first Deva cut experience was done right and Andrea at Capella Salon achieved all my hair expectations. I was tempted to make an appointment with Shai but couldn't make myself spend close to $300. After some research I found out a lot of the staff is trained for this cutting style & I was booked with Andrea. She was super sweet and worked through my THICK, curly hair like a pro!!!! I've never worn my hair curly but now I can't see myself not. Everyone there was kind and knows what they're doing. Every 4-5 months I'll be here to see Andrea. I'm hooked. THE WORST!!!! The most unprofessional people I've ever met in my life!!!! Called me an hour before my appointment two days before my wedding saying their power was out? Two days before my wedding? You call a client & especially a bride with a solution, not "we need to reschedule you". I will never, ever step foot in this place again. Two days before my wedding. One day before my rehearsal and my hair is a nightmare ... Wow. Way to go Capella! After receiving a message from Shai the owner, I need to rebuttal: First off Shai, my apologies to you if I was offensive but I have to say this: your receptionist was unapologetic, cold and sounded as if she could careless when I called and returned her message. Anyone with half a brain knows a bride is beyond stressed out, professionally any client should be handled with kid gloves but especially a bride. I am equal to anyone on earth but a bride deserves a little something extra special... When I asked when it could be rescheduled for, her response was "I don't know....". I would have been a bit more prepared or led with "we will absolutely find a solution & will make sure you are ready for your wedding day".... That was not at all expressed. Well, I'm hooked. I will never...yes I said NEVER...let anyone other than Shai touch my kinky curly locks. This was the most delicious hair experience I've ever had. Shai is a brilliant talent. What's so great is he took an hour to cut each one of my kinks and curls individually. *This review is for the professionalism and credibility of the salon not the haircut itself. After being a loyal costumer for 2 years and referring friends to the salon, it was unfortunate to be faced with unprofessionalism from both the owner and the staff. I waited 3 months to get my haircut. My appointment was postponed to a week after due to a family emergency which was understandable. I noticed my second appointment was on Sunday at 2:45 pm( the salon regular hours is only to 2pm). I live in San Diego and as I am driving towards studio City, I receive a call at 10:45 am from the salon saying that there is a power outage in the area and they have to re-schedule my appointment to a month after. It was ironic that there was truly a power outage when you call all the other businesses in that shopping center, and they all have up and running electricity. Moreover, I noticed many other reviews that had similar experiences of getting their appointments canceled. After talking to Shai and hearing many conflicting stories, I decided to end my business with the salon despite getting charged $75 in advance for a haircut that I would hope to receive by the end of the year. read more

I am not one to do reviews often but when someone or something is a special as Capella Salon, I have to make an exception. I have been going to Shai for over three years now and truthfully, there is no one else on the planet that I trust my hair to. Seriously, not a single person. While that may sound extreme, let me first say that Shai LOVES curls and will do everything he can to make your curls the healthiest and happiest they can possibly be. I have been to many a "curl specialist" on both sides of the country but Shai is the real deal. Before finding Shai, I'd never really felt the need to stay loyal to a stylist before but I think it's because no one had ever given me THE cut. The one I didn't know was possible and completely changed how I felt about my mixed curly hair and myself. Shai took the time to educate me about why certain products and practices work for curls and which ones to stay away from. I can honestly say from looking at pictures from three years ago that my hair is thicker, curlier, and shinier than it has ever been. Strangers stop me on the street so often that I started to carry his business cards with me. When my sister visits from NYC, I make sure I get her in to see him. Because of him, I have become a passionate curly ambassador, spreading the naturally curly message wherever I go! I don't usually write reviews. Usually I just click a star rating and keep it moving...however after consistently getting great results time and again I think it's time to write about it! I have really thick curly/coily multi textured hair. When I first came here in July I was growing out some heat damage and an icky hair cut. Shai sculpted my do into an adorable cut with shape and movement and he added some beautiful highlights to accentuate (without leaving me bald haha)! Flash forward to October and my hair had grown a lot, but it looked like it could use a dusting. I left Capella, once again, with my hair looking AMAZING and healthy. After a lots of online research I decided to come here based on the review.I have very curly hair and I was afraid to get it cut,since most people don't know how to. In Los Angeles, it's so easy to get sucked into a ridiculously expensive cut, color and style that is truly marginal at best just because of a posh address. It's so worth going to Studio City for this premium salon to utilize the truly talented, dedicated people who do hair there - especially Kim Ochoa. The salon interior, services amenities are not over the top - yet they are stylish, friendly enough and modern. That means you are paying for what you actually go there for - great hair! I've been to a lot of other salons in LA and this is the only one that has stuck over the years. My best friends, my accountant and his family, my 5-year-old god-daughter and husband all go to Kim - and we have very different hair from thick and curly to fine and straight. I highly recommend Capella if you want the real deal in a salon who hire good people worth going to over and over again. The only downside is when you try and schedule an appointment, you generally are put on hold immediately and sometimes held there for more than 3-4 minutes. NATALI!!! She is the absolute best. I'm so excited that she moved to this salon because the space is GORGEOUS! The salon is a full service salon with free parking. Very clean, bright and airy. I'm in love with this place. They have a facial girl and a nail person as well as several hair stylists. Back to Natali: I have blond hair (thanks to Natali) and she does the best highlights in Los Angeles. She's a color specialist and takes her time with each color treatment to make sure it's just right. I never feel rushed and I always come out looking WAY better than when I came in. I called the salon and they hooked me up with Andrea, after I told them that I needed highlights ASAP! Well, cheers to the woman who scheduled my appointment because I am beyond thrilled. Not only is Andrea super down to earth and fun to talk to, but she REALLY KNOWS HER STUFF! Lets just say, I will NOT be going back to my old hair stylist (sucks to be you!) as long as Andrea is around! Prior to getting my hair done, all I saw was... The muppet that plays the guitar. BUT now every time I look in the mirror I see the SEXIEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD... The salon itself was nice as well. I have been looking for YEARS for a great hairdresser. (I've been through a new hairdresser every 6 months for 8 years here...) My agent recommended Capella and Marissa, but she was booked up and I needed my hair cut and highlighted by a certain date. I ended up booking with Szofi for highlights because she was available. We met a week prior to getting my hair highlighted because I was so freaked out about having it done because it's been so bad for so many years. I was a pain in the a$$ and she probably didn't want to do my hair because I was so paranoid. But, a week later, my hair looked amazing when she was finished with it! And, because I had to cancel my appointment with Marissa to get a haircut, I rescheduled with Szofi. She cut it today and it is amazing as well. I have definitely found my hairdresser!!!! I've been fighting, pulling, tugging, twisting, and chemically processing my head for as long as I can remember. If you're a curly girl, you hear me screamin'! I had pretty much gotten it down over the last few years, but kept seeing other beautiful curls bouncing down the boulevard, and I had a bit of hair envy! Anyhow, I hadn't had a trim in about 8 months, and was getting a bit fuzzy. I decided to research my options thoroughly! (please make a habit of doing this in your life, you'll be happy you did). I was looking for a reasonably priced trim, and particularly for a curl expert. I read lots of reviews, and checked out countless websites before I made my choice of Capella Salon in Studio City. After it was decided that Capella would be my new hair oasis, I needed to choose a stylist. In various reviews that I had read, I discovered that if I was going to do it right, I needed to go straight to the top! I promptly called, and requested an appointment with Shai Amiel, owner and hair doctor at Capella Salon for a "Deva Cut" (especially for curly girls). Capella is located in Studio City in a cute little shopping plaza. The place is clean, organized and sleek. Always a good start! Shai greeted me right away, and I made myself comfortable with a nice Latte from next door. When I sat with Shai, we discussed my struggles and preferences and got down to business! Carefully and precisely Shai separated each individual ringlet atop my auburn head, and trimmed every curl, one at a time. Of course this took some time, but since it was so amazing, it didn't really matter. In the meantime we had a discussion about my product preferences, and what was important to me (as far as being eco-friendly and non-toxic). More on product to come... After my tendril tweak, my scalp was loved with a light lather by Jessica, and I think I took a mini nap. When I was sparkly clean and lovely scented, we went back to Shai. He taught me the best way to apply product, pin up some curls at the crown, and dry with the least damage. Best of all, he told me not to come back for 6-9 months! LOVE IT! My ruby tendrils were bouncy and bright, and my smile was ear to ear. Exactly how you should feel every day! I ended up with a new shampoo, conditioner and leave in gel by Deva Curl. No sulfates, no parabens, and lots of love. Yum. All in all, I can honestly and truly say, this was the BEST HAIRCUT EVER, and I had a really enjoyable time at Capella. I felt very pampered, honored and respected, and Shai has a new groupie (well 2, if you count my daughter whom I brought subsequently). What can I say, this is the best salon I've ever been to!! Everyone is friendly, the salon is super clean, the music is great, and the massaging chairs at the hair washing station are awesome! I love it!! I have mixed girl curls, that sometimes have a mind of their own. Curls that I now trust only with my stylist, Shai Amiel, AKA The Curl Doctor. Believe me, he lives up to his title! I've been going to Shai since 2008, and I've loved every cut that he has given me over the years. He has also given me so many helpful tips for my curly hair, that I will use for life! But a while back, silly me decided to start wearing my hair staight. So I decided to give this lady a try at a totally different salon. This was a HUGE mistake!! She damaged my hair with heat and over bleached highlights, it was horrible. I went to this lady for months, repeatedly straightening my hair. However, when I wanted to go back to my natural hair, my curls were gone and I didn't know what to do! I felt so stupid and ripped off! So guess who I called? I called the person that knows curls best, the person I never should have left, Shai! He welcomed me with open arms, and got my hair on the road to recovery! Yes he had to chop off a few inches or so, but that was ok with me. The damaged hair had to go if I wanted my pretty curls back. That was in April, and I just recived another cut to remove most of the remaining damaged hair. My curls are coming back strong, and I love my hair again!! It's a little on the shorter side now, but so much healthier! I told him he could cut more, but he insited we should stop where we did. It was a lot less traumatic to remove the damaged hair in steps, verses a HUGE chop. Thank you so much Shai, you really are the best at what you do!! Can't wait to go back next month for color! I have been an admirer of Shai for a very long time and finally made an appointment with the Curl Doctor. I had to book my appointment in advance but Shai is well worth the wait. I will not go on and on about my haircut because it was amazing and nothing less than what I expected from Shai. Shai is a professional with many years of experience. You can find photos of his work on his Instagram page if you have any doubts. My review is SOLELY based on the customer service I received. The service at Capella salon is exceptional, and is a very clean salon. I arrived early in order for one of his assistants to dry my hair. Shai requests your hair be completely dry before cutting and his staff will accommodate you if your hair is somewhat damp like mine was. He prefers that you freshly wash your hair before your visit. This was very helpful because my hair is very long and thick and takes a couple of hours to completely air dry. Shai introduced himself and immediately began to tell me what was wrong with my hair. He did not do it in a shaming or embarrassing kind of way but more informative. I've gotten my curly hair cut wet in the past and he explained why I should NEVER EVER do that. He even showed me a picture of how uneven my hair was and what he planned to do in order to fix it to the best of his capabilities. He did ask what products I used and told me in detail why they do not work best for my hair. Shai began to work his magic, which took about an hour. Shai did have to step away for a few moments but was very apologetic which I did not mind at all. He was away for a very short time might I add. After the cut his wonderful assistant Janaye took me to the wash bowl to wash my hair. The massage chair was a plus :). Janaye is very kind and passionate about natural curly hair and walked me step by step on which products she was using and how to apply them properly. I learned so much from her and she even shared some of her personal tips. Curly girl to curly girl I was thankful for the advice. Her hair is beautiful by the way. What I appreciate most about my visit is how informative it was. I've been natural for 3 years and to realize I have been caring for my hair improperly by listening to so called YouTube gurus was eye opening. I left Capella salon more educated about my hair care. The hair care tips I received from Shai and Janaye will be beneficial to me for years to come. I feel like my natural hair journey has begun all over again. I purchased my Deva Curl products right from the salon which was very convenient. I highly recommend going to Shai and his team. They are licensed professionals and you will learn how to properly care for your hair from the absolute best. Shai your work is nothing short of amazing and you are awesome. I went to see Shai as he was recommended on the naturally curly website. He did a really good job with my very curly hair. He has studied the devacurl method for cutting curly hair which means he cuts it dry and doesn't touch it when it's wet. I didn't have to wait long. The salon is large and bright. He sells all the products you need to take good care of your hair. He was also very friendly. An overall good experience. read more

Marlee is an amazing person as well as stylist. My first visit with her was a little over a year ago with a drastic change of cutting over 10 inches off during a very trying time in my life. I recently moved to LA and spent about a month looking for a new salon. I have curly hair, and prefer to see people that specialize with curls. I stumbled upon Claudia's Instagram and knew she was the one! I've had two cuts now and completely love how she cuts/styles my hair. The assistants are also great and very skilled. The salon also carries my favorite product line, Innersense. It might a little pricier here, but you are paying for high quality products, and years of training/expertise that these stylists have. read more

I was elated to find Capella salon through a friend of a friend and booked an appointment. From the initial call to the confirmation through the appointment itself, everyone was incredibly professional and helpful. I have to agree with the review below - Keyonna gave me the best cut and highlight I have ever had! I was born blond, but my hair has darkened over time. So, I've been highlighting blond my entire life - and I have gone to many, many stylists. Keyonna listened to what I wanted, looked a picture and used her eye to give me a beautiful, natural looking highlight. And for a really decent price, too! I've never had a haircut that was anything more than a trim. I've always been scared to get a "style" because my hair is so thick and curly and I didn't want to end up with a triangle head or giant fro. But I finally decided to take the plunge and try to do something different with my hair. Keyonna did a beautiful job. My hair looks clean and bouncy and put together. And she showed me how to part it so it looks like an actual haircut! Keyonna is hilarious and kind and knows her stuff. If you have curly hair, or any kind of hair, I would go to her! The salon is very friendly and non-pretentious which I really appreciate. read more
