My friend actually does fostering for them and has done a few litters of kittens and puppies, so she is the one who introduced us to BHS, and we're so glad she did! Conan was my first cat (first of the two, and first ever) and we got him from BHS. He was a kitten that was part of a new litter with a young mother. They were at an overrun "kill" shelter in Arkansas, and when a rescue heard about this situation, they connected with BHS - who sprung to action. They had someone drive roundtrip from Nebraska to Arkansas to save these babies! And I can't thank them enough because one of them was my little orange man who I can't imagine not being mine. They did their due diligence with us too, to make sure we were a good fit for adopting one of their animals. We had to sign an adoption contract that included things like providing healthy food and the best care, and agreeing that we would never give him up because we were moving, and that if we WERE going to do that (never!) that we'd call them before we did anything like that and return him to BHS to find a better home for him. They also called before approving us to chat about those topics too and just make sure we were serious about adoption. Once that was all good, Conan was ours! And we heard a little while later that all five other kittens and the mother were also adopted - that's SEVEN kitties saved by BHS! Once we had Conan for a little over a year, I saw that my friend had another litter she was fostering from BHS. We decided it was time to add another kitten to the house, as we read that they can be happier in pairs. So we did another adoption with BHS that was just as smooth! We added Remy to the family and he and Conan are the best "brothers" (connected by BHS!) and friends Thank you BHS!!

We had ALL -- mothers and kittens -- spayed, neutered and given all shots plus vet care, which was a VERY substantial expense. I recently I appealed (three times) to HUA to help us find homes for four remaining cats, to save them from the coyotes that roam the neighborhood. I was told in NO uncertain terms that they would NOT accept cats. That, despite their website advertsing their cats for adoption, and their professed no-kill policy. I was trying to save these cats from death by coyote, but nothing I said, nor the years of donations, made any difference. I am more than angry. Ifeel used and betrayed. It's a shame that HUA's "humanity" apparently can be turned on and off like the hot water.

Sadly, not this one. My husband and I have owned cats for most of our lives, declawed, indoor cats who lived into their late teens. We miss them still, but we have been in the process of having four children and both working demanding full time jobs so we went a few years without cats while our kids were young and I was still working. Now, we are ready again. We have three daughters ages 17, 15, and almost 13. My older two daughters just adopted two kittens from another rescue two months ago. My youngest didn't find the perfect match so we waited and began looking at other rescues. We have a pair of Guinea pigs, and our cats are indoor only, so we declaw them and we were honest about this on our application to feline friendz. My daughter was overjoyed when our application was approved. We went out and bought all of his supplies, toys, everything he would need and set it up. My daughter had even planned to keep the name Diego, she loved it. We just had to wait to hear from the foster to schedule a time to pick him up. Two days later we were asked by the rescue if we had been contacted by Diego's foster yet. When I replied that we had not, I was asked to provide my number again because I should have been contacted by now. I provided it, still heard nothing, then the following day we were told that the foster had chosen another home for Diego ( however he is still listed for adoption), because of the declaw issue. I understand that this topic is sensitive to some people, but we were honest from the beginning and were still chosen. My daughter's heart is broken. The foster relayed through the rescue that she found someone else for Diego because she didn't have the courage to tell me herself. This has been a heartbreaking experience for us. I suspect they have been disingenuous at best, because after we were approved, then told the foster found someone else for Diego, he is still up for adoption. We are a happy home with two happy adults who can afford to care for any need our pets have, and have the experience both in life and in our professional work to recognize those needs, four happy kids, two happy dogs, the happy spoiled Guinea pigs, and two new, newly declawed and completely recovered kittens who are playful all day and who sleep with my older daughters each night after spending their days together at home with me. My youngest daughter will find her perfect kitten too, sadly not Diego, but we will find him or her. This rescue failed our family multiple times, and my only hope now is that Diego actually does have a new home that will care for him the way we would have. I see from other reviews that this rescue has no problem turning down good homes and crushing potential adopters dreams in the process. The review I read prior to posting this was heartbreaking as well. Zero stars to feline friendz.

From the beginning they responded to all of my questions very quickly. The facility was nice with clean beds, towels, bowls, and kennels. I opted to leave their food which they were ok with. They sent pictures daily and gave me updates daily (sometimes more when I asked questions). I thought their price was very reasonable for 3 dogs and was happy to see they offered a military discount. Why on Earth would I want to adopt another animal from this facility given the gross negligence? What respectable animal shelter doesn't confirm/test for these kinds of issues prior to putting an animal up for adoption? I'd also like to add that the front desk staff (the welcome desk, not the folks in the back - they are very friendly) are incredibly rude. Consistently every time I've come in here, the social skills and public service has been horrific. I will no longer be adopting pets from this facility. They set the animals up for failure.

Recently I went to adopt a dog after my mother's passing. I had looked on their website at the dogs…read morethat they currently had, and found a few that seemed like they might be a good fit. I was only looking at dogs that said "good with other dogs" and had no mentions of needing to meet resident dogs, as I live in an apartment complex with many other dogs, and knew I needed a dog that could walk past them in the hallway without putting anyone in an unsafe situation. When I got to the shelter, I immediately found one of the dogs that I had seen online, and wanted to meet her. On her "report card" on the kennel, it stated "good with other dogs". When I met her, I was told about a medical issue that she had, but it was something that was taken care of. I also asked if she had any other medical issues, specifically allergies because of her color, and the staff said that there were no mentions on her paperwork of allergies. I loved the dog, and made plans to come back the next morning to adopt her. When I returned the next day, I talked with the staff about wanting to see her and adopt her that day. The staff asked if I would still like to hear about her since I heard about her the day before, and I said yes just to hear it all again. The staff member I spoke to started telling me about how she had very severe allergies and skin issues when she arrived. They didn't know anything about the medical issue I was originally told about, and it took them about 5 minutes to find it in her paperwork (the medical issue she had involved an intense surgery, so I was surprised that information was so hidden). When they found the paperwork, I was also told she had GDV when she first arrived as well. I was surprised on how much wasn't told to me the day prior, but I was still happy to move forward with the adoption. We brought her to the meet room and started working through getting her ready to go. That is when I was told she had "barked at another dog" while on a walk with a volunteer. I asked what that looked like, and if she had lunged or just barked, and the staff member told me that on her paperwork, it stated that she just barked, and did not lunged or move towards the other dog. I was now a little confused, but since the staff member told me that she had just barked, I assumed that it was a typical dog "hello". As we were leaving the meet room to go get her paperwork done and take her home, we walked up to the front where another dog was at the counter. When the staff member saw the other dog, they tried to steer us away from them. Knowing that she barks at other dogs, I wanted to see what that looked like. When she saw the other dog, she started to bare teeth, low bark and low growl at the other dog, as well as jumping and lunging towards them. That is when I realized that this would not be a good fit. I attempted to hand her back to the staff member, who tried to convince me to continue to go through with the adoption, until she finally took her back. I felt awful, and assumed that the reason I was told she was good with other dogs, and did not lunge at other dogs is because the shelter did not know (because again, the staff member I spoke to specifically told me there was nothing on her paperwork to indicate that she lunged at other dogs). I went up to the counter to let them know about our interaction, and was told that their "report cards" are not accurate and are not meant to be accurate, and that her paperwork DOES say that she lunges at other dogs. I have been keeping tabs on the dogs listing to see if it ever got changed, and after 3 weeks it now says "must meet resident dogs in the home" and "selective with other dogs". I am hoping that it didn't take an adoption failure to add that to her profile. Please be cautious adopting from them, as I was told specifically that they do not keep the dogs information accurate, and will tell you things that are untrue about the dog in order to get them into a home.
