Have been here once before and was fairly happy with the results for a basic manicure. Made appt recently to have a mani/pedi for both me and my daughter and we felt very rushed. Barely any sloughing on my heels (which are in decent condition), a 10 second massage on my legs and hands. My toes should have had a second coat and the cuticles on my hands were not really done and were subsequently painted over. My daughter's experience wasn't much better. Definitely looking for another place that doesn't feel like a factory and will take a couple of minutes to massage and do the job right. read more

I went to this salon particularly due to the great reviews. What I liked was the friendliness of the entire family/staff. And, I happily chatted away with the other customers. But, the chair was really uncomfortable and the decor was less that attractive. They had storage boxes all over the place and that gave it the appearance of not being clean. It was really busy for such a small place, so that's good for them. The pedicure was fine. Nothing exceptional, but certainly not bad. My technician was double booked so I had to wait about ten minutes for someone else to complete my pedicure. That happens. I may give them another try at some point since they are so close. read more

Horrible, just effing horrible!! So I'm in need of a mani for real nails and I call Capitol Nails for an appointment, to my surprise I can get one same day, I'm totally stoked! I come in with my own nail file because it is meant for real nails and not acrylic, plus they re use nail files. I ask the lady to do a square round and how much to take off the top, she starts hacking away at my beautiful nails that I worked so hard for (I'm a recently recovering nail biter, I know it's despicable but I stopped, come on!) then the owner could see my horrified face as she turned this dream into a nightmare and is turning my long adult nails into freakishly childish ones, so he switched manicurist ASAP. The next lady stepped up to the plate of a seemingly difficult task of filing a real set of nails when you work in a nail salon. She started to do an oval shape that completely distorted the shape of my nail. Now I know where this train is going, I've let people do this to me before and I'm not going to let it happen anymore no sir e I'm jumping the hell off; so I take my nail file and I flee that demonic place. I find some safety and breathe. I try to save my nails from mortification and barely succeed. Bottom line: Don't go here you can do a better job! read more

I have been coming here for over four years and have never had a bad experience. I feel like family now. They always fit me in without an appointment and take care of me. The pricing is reasonable and the nail work is really great. I get all my acrylics and pedicures done here. I have been to 5 nail places in the year I have been in Portland and this is my favorite, So much that I almost don't want to review it so I can keep it all to myself. The important things I look for in a nail place were all here, friendly staff who aren't just pretending very hard to like you, these people are genuine and work hard. They give great foot massages and leg massages, exfoliating scrub, hot towels for your legs, cute nail colors, tons of massage chairs, moderate pricing. I will keep going back. They were very great when my boyfriend wanted his nails trimmed and a foot massage and made him feel very comfortable. I got a mani and pedi and he got a pedi and we were very satisfied! read more

$14 basic manicure that was done in ~15 minutes? Perfect! My nails were expertly shaped (often other places make them wonky - not so here), cleaned and painted in what felt like no time. Sometimes you want a long, relaxing manicure, but sometimes you just want an efficient but professional job, and that's exactly what I got at Capitol Nails. I was, emphasis on was, a client of Capitol Nails for over 3 years. I always got the most expensive pedicure, had acrylics applied and recently had my nails dipped, gel polish and was NEVER late for my appointments. This winter, even though I got a flu shot, came down with the flu. I was very sick two times in a row and the flu came back a third time. I had diarrhea, vomiting, high temperature, the whole enchilada and had to cancel my appointments 3 times. Last week I called for an appointment for a pedicure and my natural nails dipped again and was told I could only come in on a walk in basis. I asked why and was told because I cancelled appointments I would now not be allowed to make a scheduled appointment. Needless to say, I had a few choice words for them and went to another nail salon, Priscilla Nails. For the life of me I do not understand the total lack of appreciation for a long term client. I guess if you have to cancel appointments you are kicked to the curb. The nail business is extremely competitive and it is foolish and downright stupid to punish a loyal 3+ year client for being sick. Furthermore when I asked at Priscilla Nails to have my nails dipped the process was entirely different than what I experienced at Capitol Nails. The correct process for dipping involves colored dip powder that serves both as nail reinforcement AND gel like polish. The dip powders come in multiple color choices and the actual dip powder is expensive for the salon to purchase and keep in their inventory. I discovered that Capitol Nails lies to their clients and are NOT dipping their nails correctly. What they do is "dip" your nails in old school acrylic powder, the same product they would use to build nails using artificial tips. The dipping powder at Priscilla Nails is organic, no chemicals or additives and does not damage your nails when you choose to remove and change colors. I am furious that I paid a much higher price at Capitol Nails to have my nails dipped when in fact all I really got was ACRYLIC! DON'T GIVE CAPITOL NAILS your business! The owners of Priscilla Nails, Hieu and Lily, are honest, charming, kind and treat their clients with respect. I am now their client for life. read more

I had a very pleasant experience here as far as the overall environment and very nice nail people. However DO NOT get their powder dipped/gel for a manicure. I would have gotten a regular manicure if I knew it would fade within days. I got my nails done 3 days before new years and by new years 4 of my nails had almost completely faded, starting from the top to bottom of nail. It has been a little over a week and they are chipped on all edges and just look like little chipped centers of the nail. With a solid manicure i would have given this place 4-5 stars but my nails were sad for new years:/ read more

Very disappointing experience. Went on a recent Sunday for a pedicure as my usual salon is closed, what a mistake. My last pedicure was two weeks prior so nails definitely needed attention. My technician was very inexperienced; no nail trim and nails barely filed, very light foot scrub and minimal massage. I was asked for payment right after treatment which is fine, however once I paid the tech got on her phone and there was no further contact. When I left, no one said anything; goodbye, thank you, etc. All of the above projected a very unprofessional environment. I cannot recommend Capitol Nails and will not go there again. read more

I love this place. I've been going for years because it is one of just a few places I've ever gone for nails that doesn't make me feel like I'm under attack with the dremmel. Although their English can be a little hard to parse at time (really just due to accents), they are all sweet hearts. Often their children are at the shop, so a movie is usually playing, which is nice for long, less-fun procedures like fake nails. Their pricing is great, it's always clean, and their pedicures are fabulous. Also, the reason I even discovered this place at all - they are open on Sunday! read more

I have been coming to this place for more than three years. Over this time, I've had pedis and manis from nearly everyone on staff. I am almost always a walk-in, and yet have never waited for more than 10 minutes. Everyone on the staff that I have received service from has been professional, expert, and friendly. I usually get shellac nails and they last for week and weeks. Only once did I have a problem, and they fixed it, no charge. I don't have fake nails, so I don't know how they do at that, but if you want a comfortable, clean, expert, and professional pedi and mani, I think they are great. You can pay more but not get anything better. read more

This place is great. I am happy to have finally found a local nail salon that fit both criteria of being affordable and doing a good job. Their prices are among the lowest out there - only $25 for a spa pedicure with massage and just 20 bucks for a solar nail fill -- $15 for a regular acrylic fill. Great value. They have 5 nail stations and 3 pedicure stations and 4 or 5 people working, it is pretty efficient. Dong, the man who works there, does a fabulous job with solar nails. Also, the atmosphere is quite nice. It's no day spa, but it has pleasant, terra cotta-painted walls, and it is clean and relaxing. read more

I moved here from San Diego in August and had tried 3 nail shops before I found this one. The other shops were so bad by the time I came here I had taken off my acrylic's thinking I was just not able to keep my nails up. I am super picky & couldn't find the quality I had coming from SD (I had been going to an actual old school manicurist-not a nail shop). I started off with just a pedicure here and with the quality I saw on people's hands, I got a full set 3 weeks ago. I went last night for my first fill and Dong did AMAZING! I did have some lifting but how he removed the old acrylic, I don't have any "fill lines" (if you get your nails done, you know what I'm talking about). I read yelp all the time but never have posted before, but I had to let people know how great this shop is. Great prices too...although some are different than posted as length of nail and so on. This place was great! The ladies were super friendly and sweet! I got an excellent massage along with a great Gelac mani/pedi! Their prices were very affordable and comparable to other places in the same area. It was also very clean and tidy. The massage chairs were excellent which is a definite plus, and the woman who did my nails was very meticulous, which I appreciate. She took her time and didn't rush through me to get to the next person waiting. I also did not have an appointment, I was a walk in and still got great service. I give this place a 5 out of 5! Although staff very nice, I even showed a picture of what I was looking for in a pink and white set....I went in with all but one of my own nails grown out to a nice length and as such, he only used one tip to complete my full set, yet I was charged 45.00! The build up was way too thick, they lifted within 4 days and I will never be back. Went to another nail salon and have EXACTLY what I want...it was not difficult yet I left Capitol Nails with thick, pointy and unevenly filed "nails" (right edges higher than left and left hand completely different in length, shape and thickness of white line). My own nails certainly looked better than what I left with! For anyone that knows a good pink and white, stay away. read more

I went here with a friend back in December and had the worst pedicure experience of my life. I tried to put it out of my head and forget about it, but seeing their name pop up in my Yelp search brought it back to mind. My friend and I went in for pedis and they were very busy. We had two very young women tend to us (maybe 18?), who looked like they were in training. My friend was fortunate and got the most knowledgeable of the trio of very young trainees, and she was tended to quite well. The young woman who did my nails was all over the place in her attention span, and frequently acted clueless in the middle of her work and had to ask for guidance from the more knowledgeable one. It's fine and all to be in the process of learning a new skill, but I really think I should have been told upfront that I was getting a novice, and maybe even given a discount. The worst part was that she cut my big toe about half way through the process, and it bled everywhere. I have NEVER been cut in all of my years of getting pedicures. It was awful. I got very little apology and still paid full price. On top of all that, the finished product was terrible. It was uneven and started to chip within days. This experience was the second time I had been to Capitol Nails, but the last time was about five years before. I experienced these same issues (without the cut) but hoped they had improved since then. I will never be back. Fool me once... read more

I've been coming here for a little over 3 years. I've had my nails done by almost everyone who works here. Each time has been a wonderful experience. Sometimes I go because because I have a special event or my nails/feet look terrible, sometimes I go just to relax. These ladies and gentlemen are a part of my routine! I've tried other salons closer to my home (at the time living in North Portland), but never had the quality and consistency (and great price) as Capitol Nails! I was not impressed with this place at all. I usually don't write negative reviews because I know everyone has an off day here and there, but I absolutely felt the need to write this one. Especially because the reason I chose this place, aside from being so close to home, was because all of the reviews I read gave it incredible ratings...I have no idea how! I have been to a few nail salons around the Portland area and this one is by far the worst. Maybe the fact that shortly after I sat down in the chair for my pedicure and a cockroach ran across the tub, put a bad taste in my mouth. (Yuck!) I know I should have gotten up and walked out right then and honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't. Not to mention the pedicure itself felt very rushed even though my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the salon. They didn't even have the hot wax for your feet (my favorite part of getting pedicures). They spent all of maybe 10 seconds (and that estimate is being very generous), using the pumice stone... missing all of the areas on my feet that really needed it. The massage chairs were dingey and worn looking and most of the buttons on the controllers were completely unreadable. The staff was not welcoming either...it seemed as though no one wanted to be there and that we were inconveniencing them by being there. Oh! And I can't forget to mention how every other salon I have gone to costs the same amount ($25/pedicure) only those places I leave feeling pampered and my feet looking and feeling amazing! The only reason I gave it one star, aside from the fact that you can't give a "zero star" review, was because the woman I had, did give a fairly decent foot massage. Overall, I was really disappointed in the entire experience. Especially because I finally talked my boyfriend into getting a pedicure with me...totally talking up the whole experience. Needless to say, he was not impressed with his first time. Crossing my fingers I can talk him into giving it another chance...only next time, I think I'll stick with a salon I have been to and had better experiences with. read more
