Finally got a chance to eat here, after having done the "Bond Street Complex" crawl about 3 dozen times. Capitoline is situated in "The Complex", and serves as a connecting restaurant from the awesome Bond Street Bar, and Loteria (their Mexican cantina, also delicious). The decor is fairly unique here, with huge airplane hangar doors serving as the main entrance from the street, a very "industrial" design, and more slide-up windows that double as indoor / outdoor seating during nice weather. A nice touch is that they lined the ceilings and upper walls with sound-deadening material, so the place is actually pretty average, in terms of volume. Since it's owned by Bond Street Bar, you can expect the same prices for beers, ranging from $3 to $5, iirc. Prices for pizzas and whatnot were seemingly affordable too, with most individual sizes being under $6. Not being super hungry, and wanting something different, I ordered the traditional meatballs (naked) for $8. They came out relatively quickly, and were super soft and flavorful, although I would have liked to see 1-2 more meatballs for 8 bucks, instead of the 3 relatively small ones that I got (golf ball sized). For $1 more you can get it on a roll, which my friend did - and you actually appear to get 1 additional meatball this way, along with bread, making it more of a meal, although it needed more sauce and was kind of dry. In the future, I'd either order this as an app, or skip the naked meatballs entirely and go for either the meatball sandwich or a pizza, which are a way better value. Good as they were, $2.65 per meatball was kind of pushing it. I'm always passing through here on the way to the downstairs basement bar, which is an awesome place to hang out with friends, no matter what the weather - so I'll probably be back at some point, though I still prefer Bond and Loteria for meals. read more

Every restaurant had an astronomical wait time (as expected on a Friday at 6,) so I figured I would pop in and see since the decor looked fashionable. Could tell the servers were highly understaffed, I get it: COVID. Took ~15 to get a beer. App came out cold after 30 mins. Remade it in no time, assumed it was another table's. 1hr+ for two entrees. Our neighbor table had told us to watch our Check, apparently they had been charged extra. Watch your check, because when we checked they had charged us double for practically all our drinks. They like to not serve people then charge them double.... Would not go again. read more

It's very hard these days to go anywhere and feel you've gotten your money's worth. Capitoline certainly exceeded expectations in that area. When my wife suggested Capitoline and I saw the menu which looked great but pizza Restaurant-ish in a Williamsburg-ish setting and prices that were incredibly cheap I was skeptical at best . If you are lucky at expensive restaurants you get what you pay for at prices like this you just hope it's acceptable and not money down the tubes. We ordered the bruschetta, m sticks, calamari and meatballs ( vbp) all were very good. Others have complained the tomatoes on the bruschetta are to big they are correct but if the restaurant cut the bread thicker it would stand up better, but very tasty. Someone else complained about the price they must eat at McDonald's , dollar meals! For the main I ordered the south philly , basically a Tony Luke's, Roast Pork broccoli provolone . Tony Luke's isn't even Tony Luke's these days and this was a credible tribute. My wife ordered the carbonara pasta It was good also . My daughter ordered the spaghetti with clams she thought it was to peppery but to be honest in our family she's not the go to person for food reviews. We also ordered 2 pies of which we happily ate. The bill was about $100 for 5 of us including a drink or two. I've picked up more bills than I can count, as a matter of fact I can't remember the last time a check was picked up for me. I have to say I am not price sensitive I have had meals for $2000 for 2 people I'm not the type of person that says what a great meal because the restaurant served huge portions for a cheap price or the price was cheap and food mediocre but it was still cheap. Great place! Small menu but what they lack in size they make up in taste. Easy and unpretentious. With Asbury blowing up the way it is; it's nice to come to a place where they don't act like they are doing you a favor. Also they have a basement bar that has two ping pong tables and a shuffleboard. read more

The pizza was very good, however the roasted chicken didn't seem to be roasted and the vegetable side was bland. I took two bites and no one said a word before clearing the table. My family and I decided to come here based off the reviews regarding gluten free options. We ordered numerous items off the menu and weren't thrilled with most of them. The staff was not very knowledgeable about allergies or what item contained what allergens. We ordered a plain gluten free pizza. The crust tasted like cardboard and was super hard and gross. The pizza itself tasted like it was a frozen pizza. Not good at all. Then we ordered the wings. The wings were tiny, tasteless and super dry. We also ordered 2 sandwiches one on gluten free bread and one regular for the person in our group without allergies. The gluten free bread was basic udis and the chicken Vodka Park was not good at all. Sauce was greasy and bland and chicken tasted rubbery. As for the prime rib sandwich my father said it wasn't good at all. The only thing on the menu worth while was the artichokes. But unfortunately they were not gluten free. Overall the menu needs to indicate what allergens are in what so customers know what they are able to eat. The staff also needs to be more focused on the customers and their job instead of taking and posting pictures as they were doing while customers were waiting. With all the local options available we will not be returning as we could get better food and service elsewhere. read more

I would have given this restaurant 5 stars because it was my favorite place ever for Sicilian pizza until tonight.....They changed their menu and added a few items but no longer served the normal Sicilian crust we were used too. I was so disappointed in the new crust. Just lacked flavor and was extremely "doughy" unlike the previous crust. Such a shame because my fiancé and I always came here when we were craving pizza. Very GOOD... was looking for something simple and casual with good food and I found it .. Great place .. and great price . We had delicious apps Mozzarella sticks - huge and perfect Meatballs- very tasty Fried calamari- good Brushetta- i do agree with previous reviews that the tomatoes too big for the bread .. but it was fabulous Pasta carbonara- very good Clam sauce ok .. had better but clams were fresh 2 pizza both perfect Pork sandwich very good too All of the above was about 100.00 can not beat that and the service was good as well read more

I wasn't impressed with the food, but the ambience and service were great and it's good for large groups. We usually go to Porta, but last night we wanted to check out a new pizza place in Asbury and Capitoline looked good and we've tried the attached Mexican restaurant which was great. I wasn't very impressed with the food at Capitoline though. To start, they left off the Italian sausage on the Italian nachos. Next, our large pepperoni New York style pizza came with 11 slices of pepperoni (see attached picture if you don't believe me), I was picking pepperoni off other slices to add to the one I was eating. That said the pizza had enough sauce and cheese, but the crust was lacking in flavor. Last, we ordered the special sandwich and the bread wasn't hot and was too thick to enjoy the other ingredients like the delicious chicken cutlet which was pounded thin and crispy. Some suggestions are: 1) more pepperoni and add salt to the crust, had no flavor and ; 2) heat the bread so it's a bit softer and melds together with the other ingredients. read more

So. The place is bc we quite nice. Not to big and not too small very basic building materials make it interesting. The food is very good to great. The veggie meatball sandwich delicious decent size. The white pizza very good probably the best around and personal size. The stuffed shells made with turkey was good to almost very good. Try the chocolate chip bread pudding with Carmel. To Die For. Wow! What a great place. I love the atmosphere here. The food was fantastic, our server Sam M was great as well. One of my son's is very picky and she answered all his questions she also made a suggestion to my wife as well. My son nearly finished the entire plate. For an appetizer we had Calamari all of us thought it was great. I was skeptical about the Italian Nachos but my other son really wanted to try them... It was outrageously good. So glad we tried it. All the entries and Pizza was great! Chicken parm, Penne Vodka (my son's dish?), Sausage pizza, Spaghetti Carbornara my wife's dish was one of the best I ever tasted. We had the pizza, an agrodolce salad, Italian nachos, beers and cider. DELICIOUS!!! The pizza had a great crust and cheesy. The veggie pizza was the best I've ever had - not the typical raw toppings. The Italian nachos were amazing. The kids loved them. The salad had tons of beets, well dressed and creamy with goat cheese. One of the best beet salads I have eaten. Last time I'm coming to this place. My martini was half vermouth, their Sicilian pie is thin crust which isn't a Sicilian. Don't false advertise. 5 stars for quality at an amazing price. Two of us shared a small Grandma pizza and salad. We each had 2 glasses of wine. It was very good and the bill came to $27. If we'd bought a bottle of wine it would have been even less. You simply can't beat that especially in Asbury Park. The place is very new, but they seem to have their act together. I have been here a few times and have eaten here twice. The wine is good and cheap $4. I've had the antipasto which was excellent. The pizza is okay. The salad was under dressed. The bruschetta was amazing but is now off their menu so I think it was a special when I had it. Veggie Meatballs are good. Regular meatballs were AMAZING! Crostini was okay. Burrata was sooooo great!!!! The menu is small which I like. I love the vibe here and will be back because the prices are really great and I've had some pretty good food here.I will give the pizza another try too. Capitoline was an OK experience. The atmosphere is really nice. It is rustic, somewhat mysterious, and cozy. However, the food is just nothing to brag about. I ordered the chicken parm ciabatta, and it just wasn't great. It wasn't bad, but not the best. The classic NY pizza was also pretty good, not the best I've ever had. I've heard people come here and love it, so maybe it was just a bad night for the place. The service was good. Attentive, helpful and quick, which was nice. Also, our seating arrangement was not ideal. Maybe with more comfortable seating I could have enjoyed my meal a little more. I also want to mention that the prices were very reasonable(personal pizzas are $5), and the menu has tons of italian options. My table also really enjoyed their salads. Overall, I did not have an amazing experience here, but give it a try for yourself. With a good menu and plenty of space, Capitoline has lots of potential to turn it around. read more
