This was my 3rd time at Capparelli's On Main for lunch time. I absolutely love their lunch specials!! Such a great value for the food. On this visit, I invited two of my coworkers for lunch. We got the Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Alfredo With Mushrooms, and the Shrimp Salad With No Cheese. Everything tasted amazing!! The first two times that I've been here, service was great, quick, welcoming, and friendly. This most recent time, our server wasn't any of that! From the beginning he placed the menus on the table in an unpleasant manner and told us he'd be right with us. Several minutes pass, he comes back to take our drink order but he didn't introduce himself, or try to make a connection with us. We felt rushed and like a burden to him! I understand it was a busy hour and they were "short staffed" which is what our waiter told us at the very beginning. To add, our server didn't check in until it was time to pay. And he just assumed we were all splitting our check. When he came back, i politely asked for one check as I invited my coworkers to lunch. He didn't respond and just walked away to make the check into one. I will continue to come back for the food as I like the value I pay, and hopefully the not so great service was just this once. 4/5 due to most recent service. read more

Delicious food. Friendly service. We went for lunch. I had the Mediterranean salad with chicken. It was so large I had to take half to go. My family had spaghetti with meatballs, the meatball sandwich and the "Sloppy" Sandwich. We all enjoyed our dishes. The bread with the olive oil & vinaigrette is amazing! Seating is intimate but there is an upstairs too. A large party walked in and they were able to sit them upstairs right away. Next time I'll try the pizza. read more

First time ever trying Capparelli's on Main and although it is well known it comes off to me as a hidden gem. To my amazement chicken piccata is a classic dish and with newer Italian restaurants out there it is disappointing this is not in their menu. The Chicken piccata is amazing and has the classic taste I've always known. The shrimp primavera was also amazing. Service was excellent as well as the atmosphere. We were a party of 20. We came from La Fonda after being told that the wait staff would not provide us with separate checks so only one person was going to have to pay. (We spent approximately $600 excluding tips). Coming to Capparelli's was a far better choice. Chris was our waiter and he treated us with kindness and respect. I had the baked salmon. It was amazing! The service was really good! I love the view from upstairs. It is also quieter upstairs if you want to actually talk. The food was okay. The tomato cheese bread was not what I expected but it was tasty ... just garlic bread with a tomato slice and melted cheese. The chicken parmesan was tasty ... loved the breading. Great spot! Gay, the owner, is a gem. She prepared the food for a dear friend's memorial service and our crew enjoyed it so much, we decided to host our Christmas Party at her restaurant. Capparellis is an old-school Italian restaurant with generous portions and modest prices. Street parking is available in front, or around the corner depending on how busy it is. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and was seated at a table in the back. The retro interior conveys a sense of respectability and class. My server came to table and handed me a menu. They offer a plethora of classic Italian fare, such as soups, salads, seafood, chicken, spaghetti, and and expansive wine list. I wound up getting a plate of spaghetti with marinara sauce with added mushrooms! A basket of bread was brought out as well as a basic salad (iceberg lettuce, onions, tomatoes). The salad was decent, but iceberg lettuce is one of my pet peeves, so I didn't finish it. The bread however was warm and toasty! My entree arrived in a generous portion and didn't take very long, perhaps 15 minutes or so. The sauce was smooth, well seasoned, and neither too salty nor oily. The mushrooms appeared to be fresh, and blended well in the sauce. Overall, I was satisfied with my dining experience here and would definitely return. read more

3.5 Stars, but Yelp does not like partial stars. Would like to motivate them to either reduce their prices a little, but best would be to improve the consistency on the food served and overall execution of the dishes. Service is splendid. Seating upstairs is a nice change. Ambiance is family orientated, with their family photos hanging on the walls, a festive Christmas Tree even in the summer next to homely cupboards. Almost like your relatives who were too lazy to take down the tree this year! The food is mixed. Depends on what you get. Their meatballs are phenomenal. The pizza is delicious. Thin, large. Served hot. But have to be honest, it is a little overly reliant on cheese overload. Yes, some say that there can never be too much cheese- this reviewer might be one of these individuals- yet, it should also be understood that others may disagree for health or taste reasons- and an excellent establishment would not have any ingredient overpower all other flavors and would likely offer the option for extra cheese rather than a standard, as reflected in the price. Maybe could use a little more generosity on the toppings, as well as freshness instead. Pasta was good, but not great for the price; bread is decent, with some dryer overbaked pieces. Some dishes inconsistent from different visits. Soup was lacking flavor, pasta was overly reliant on the sauce drenching out the other individual nuances in the meat and vegetables. Overall, the prices are a tad higher than the food dictates. Worth it for the welcoming experience? Possibly. Would recommend trying it at least once to make your own decision, since this is definitely a stroke in this city. The Chicken Piccata was incredible-particularly the chicken. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was very tasty. You can change what sauce you want for the pasta. Comes with a salad. Caparelli's is a clean space with many memories that included a touch of elegance and class. The space is still clean and the decor is the same, but the quality of the food has gone down. I had ordered the ravioli and meatball, a classic favorite of mine. The ravioli tasted a little freezer burnt. The meatball was still excellent. Nice Italian music has been replaced by instrumental covers of top 40 hits of the last 30 years. You haven't lived until you have heard string renditions of Alanis Morisette or the Postal Service. If that wasn't enough, the music in the dining room competed with Spanish language music from the kitchen. Our server was very efficient but it was obvious they were in a hurry, even when it wasn't busy. Everything felt dropped on the table. There was no intentionality. I think Caparelli's on Main still has its old potential, but it needs its old intentionality of its vibe and creating an experience. I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back. read more

A great small business just north of downtown San Antonio. Gay Caparelli owns this location and her family has been in the restaurant business for three generations. This restaurant is more upscale and has a much wider variety on the menu than the other Caparelli restaurants in San Antonio. Lots of great seafood options here. The hardest part is choosing just one entree. Suggest reservations for busy nights like Friday and Saturday. With the wife and sister in law in tow we arrived and were promptly seated at a table marked reserved. Best seat in the house in the back corner with a view of entire restaurant. They have a very extensive wine list and tonight we enjoyed a Giesen Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Salad first. Both the house and Caesar salads are excellent. They also have excellent garlic bread they bring out. For my entree I chose the Chicken basil pesto cream sauce with farfalle pasta. The chicken was tender and moist and pasta perfectly cooked. The portions are very large and we took home a lot of leftovers. My wife enjoyed the veal picatta. Very tender. Unfortunately they will be taking it off the menu due to inflation soon. Look at those fabulous, fresh sauteed vegetables. enough for a meal by themselves. My sister in law had the chicken picatta and was impressed. Very tender and juicy. How to put this. I was excited to be joining friends over dinner. This restaurant was agreed upon by everyone as I was anxiously awaiting to enjoy great company - I did order an entrée. The waitress informed me that the Chicken Alfredo entrée I was ordering did come with a salad so instead of saying no thank you, I thought "why not..the entrée comes with the salad." I ended up ordering a Caesar salad. While waiting for our entrées, I happened to lock eyes with a male waiter who did not stop looking over at me. This made me very uncomfortable. Just picture a man standing to where you could see from the corner of your eye, with his arms crossed, and having an oddly grinning smile. Once our entrées reached the table, I realized I could not finish the Caesar salad as it was drenched in the dressing. Very wet. The chicken Alfredo was absolutely bland. Now. I don't ever add salt. Nor do I ever need to. You can guess that I did not add anything to my pasta. I had a few bites and ended my meal there. The waitress hands me my individual ticket. There was a $2.00 charge for the Caesar salad to which I was very confused. The waitress did not add that ordering a Caesar salad amongst a garden salad I would be charged an extra two dollars. I was UNAWARE. Given that the Caesar was SAD, I did bring this up to her attention. She did end up taking the charge off my bill. Overall, food is super mediocre. I enjoyed the company I had over dinner though. read more

They accept reservations and weren't too busy on Sunday around dinner time. Quaint atmosphere. Seating is upstairs and downstairs. We requested upstairs; it was nice, peaceful, and great for date night. Entrees come with salad and garlic bread and we enjoyed both. Appropriate portion sizes, or maybe slightly generous. It was pretty good, especially if you like a more fine/lighter side red sauce. Wait times weren't anything unexpected, 30 - 40 minutes, believe that they take reservations. But just as you would've had to wait for olive garden or anywhere else perhaps just spare half n hour prior to your time you'd like to sit and eat. It's worth the wait! The bread was meh, nothing special. My wife had a lasagna and the sauce was like from a can, not even a jar, it very watery and tasteless. I ordered the chicken alfredo and the chicken was dull, no flavor, and it looked fake, like the chicken in a subway sandwich. And the sauce was bad, it was watery and acidic. We were a big party and almost no one liked the food. I will recommend go to Olive Garden for Italian food instead. read more

I don't know why this place is not 5 Stars, I read some are cheap and rude. I'm a tough critic especially on Italian food, grew up in a 80% Italian neighborhood, lived in Brooklyn worked in NYC. Everything is Authentic Abuela (Nona) style cooked. Service like no where else, cannot be beat. It's a Team play kind of Joint. Been here a few times and today I actually took the time to let the place soak in and I realized how impressed I was. Rivals Little Italy places in Manhattan in decor, quality and service. We sat down on a Saturday evening near the back on the left side. We immediately noticed an on and off humming sound that was quite annoying. We could feel the vibrations, it would hum loudly for about 5 seconds, turn off for 2, turn on for 5, etc. Over and Over and Over!!! Extremely annoying. Told the waitress, she said she didn't notice it. I asked her to stand for a moment, and then she acknowledged it. said she didn't know what it was. I told her it was interfering with my ability to enjoy my dinner. Could we move somewhere else? Nope, She smiled, and walked away. Place wasnt even 1/2 full. I mentioned the humming to her several more times. No one did anything. Finally, I told her I couldn't eat my dinner, left over 1/2 of it. She said OK and smiled. And walked away I told the people at the front desk about it. The blond guy said he didn't know what I was talking about. I pointed out the table and mentioned how it interfered with my meal. A waiter standing nearby said "oh yeah, that's the A/C". The blond guy at the front desk smiled and shrugged. I wish our desire to move had been acknowledged. I came here with a group of friends for dinner on a Sunday night. They have a private upstairs room which is great for large parties! The restaurant wasn't very busy and we got our appetizers and food relatively quickly! I was a little disappointed that when I got there and the Red Snapper was crossed off the menu and not being served. The appetizers were very large was were able to feed 3-4 people. I tried the mushroom appetizer and I'm not a huge mushroom fan but these were amazing! read more
