The food here is easily 10/10, which makes the service even more disappointing. I'd absolutely recommend this place for takeout, delivery, or catering because the kitchen consistently delivers. Unfortunately, dine-in has been a completely different experience. We gave the restaurant a second chance after a poor visit six months ago, but nothing had changed. It took 15 minutes to be greeted, at our table, our host had to come check on us, another 30 minutes to receive drinks, and about 45 minutes for our food. Meanwhile, nearby tables with more guests were served much faster (we were a 2 top). We arrived at 6:15pm and after our first and only round of drinks, we were not even given the opportunity to order another round until 7:40. Our food was hot, fresh, and delicious, but the service was inattentive from start to finish. As we left, the patio was empty, yet servers and other staff were sitting together drinking beer and on their phones. That explained a lot. It's a shame because the chefs are clearly talented, but poor service and management overshadow an otherwise outstanding meal. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

We were visiting from out of town and looking for somewhere to eat after leaving the zoo. We pulled up next to Guillermo's at the stop light, noticed their signs and we went for it. We were greeted warmly by the hosts and they looked happy to be there - this is a good sign for how staff is treated. We chose to sit inside, so the hostess walked us to the indoor dining area, I immediately loved the vibe and how many different areas there were to sit, also great accommodations for each area. Anyways, we ordered our food. I didn't mind the wait, because everything was FRESH!! The drinks were nice and strong & they had a great happy hour menu. Listing everything we had & rating Spinach artichoke dip - 10/10, delicious Calamari -10/10, cooked to perfection. Burger - 8/10, great size, good flavor but not a standout Pizza - (kids and adult) 10/10 Delicious. I've never seen my 4 year old eat a whole entree at a restaurant without me encouraging him to Texas Lasagna- while it was good, the taste of barbecue sauce surprised me & I was bummed. I forgot our waiters name, but he immediately grabbed the manager, Jonathan, who validated what I was tasting and offered to remake it the way I would like. I agreed. We ended up getting it to go, but that Lasagna is SOOOO good. 10/10 for food quality, price, service, ambience, and most importantly compassion! He let us keep the other lasagna for someone else in the family to eat and we didn't get charged for it. We came here for a birthday dinner a few months ago. We've had several great experiences here in the past, which made this visit a little disappointing. The service wasn't as attentive as we've come to expect, and while the food was still good, it didn't seem to be the same quality as on our previous visits. Horrible service and when directed to weekend GM he couldn't answer any of my questions. GM provided owners info, emailed him with legit concerns. Waited days for reply only to receive message that weekend person was off so there was an oversight. I ordered a tray of lasagna and a tray of salad as I was hosting a gathering at my home. Online order, when I get to the restaurant, no one could find my order. I attempted to provide everyone I spoke with my online order number and no one wanted it. Now I can't grab and go as I have to wait for my order to be completed. I sat outside for well over half hour in the sun, dead heat in San Antonio, as my order was being gathered, GM brought out multiple containers a little bit at a time, no bag to carry all this stuff. I literally had to ask for a bag, no apologies no offer of a cold drink, even if I had to pay for it myself. As I was serving my lasagna at a later time my lasagna was cold. I was advised to email the owner who would provide heating instructions, but he doesn't work weekends. Who would not have printouts to give to your customers? When getting ready to pay one of the first questions was how much of a tip do you want to leave? I wholeheartedly believe in supporting local businesses, but this place was a joke, no one cared not even the owner, which is mind blowing to me. I was never rude and extremely courteous to everyone. I spoke to yet there was no reciprocation and no sense of urgency!!! as I sat waiting patiently for my order I noticed there were only a few patrons, service was extremely slow and employees were not all that visible. I even saw one employee go to her car and use her phone. Then we wonder why these businesses are closing. Our team of about 30 had a dinner at Guillermo's in downtown San Antonio and it was a real bummer. We ended up in a long, narrow room with tables lined end-to-end. It was noisy, cramped, and just not comfortable. From start to finish, the experience was messy. Water was delivered haphazardly and there was never enough. The water station had nothing at all--just a small, empty pitcher. There were not enough plates, so I guess we were expected to reuse the dinner plates on the table. The food felt very institutional. Tortilla chips with warm salsa were strange, the queso was okay, and dinner was a salad (fine) plus a buffet of ravioli and bowtie Alfredo. Pizza eventually appeared but disappeared quickly, and a few more pizzas showed up later. Some wings arrived even later and did not look appetizing. Most of the pastas and pizza lacked any real character or flavor. Drinks were poorly handled. Beer was fine but who delivers pints and then lets them sit on a service table for 20 minutes? I'm sure several went undrunk. Most of us left quickly after staying for the obligatory hour or so. Service mostly consisted of delivering food and drinks. There was very little attentiveness beyond that. The space, the food, and the service all left a lot to be desired. On top of that, there was basically nothing for the vegan in our group aside from some tortilla chips and warm salsa. That was a big miss. There's a walk up bar with happy hour prices that don't end until 8pm which is awesome. For the price, I was surprised at how good the drinks were. When we were seated inside, we requested to be sat outside because of the bathroom smell. The inside was not pleasant, old and unappealing. Outside seating is lovely with lights and warmers for colder days. For food, we shared the chicken Alfredo and mixed greens salad. The salad was great. The chicken Alfredo was good but not hot. Our friends ordered the calzone which they enjoyed. Portions are large. Prices reasonable. Would love to return and try something else. My wife and I used to come here for lunch back when she worked downtown and oh my gosh have the prices gone up. The pizza tasted fresh, and it was huge! The service was also great, and food didn't take long to come out. The restaurant looks unsuspecting from the outside, but it's a great spot. It was filled when I came in, and although it is on the older side, the ambiance is very lively. There is no parking since it is located downtown, but it looks like you might be able to find street parking nearby. Prices are very fair for portions and not bad at all. 10/10 would recommend. My mom and I hosted an event here for Trinity University earlier this month and the restaurant management and staff were so easy to coordinate with. I filled out the reservation form on their website and that same day a manager called me to confirm the reservation and ask if I had any questions. First of all, we went after a fiesta event and we should have just ate from a food truck because it was not worth the trip. The place was moderately busy with several open tables inside with a wait time of 30 minutes. Don't know why they couldn't seat the other two parties right away but we waited for 20 minutes to be seated. No one at the bar came to us even when we sat and waited right in front of it. A quick check in would have been helpful but I guess they don't care about earning tips. We waited for 10 Minutes before we gave up on drinks. Once seated, we were told it was happy hour and could order from a selected few apps to get 50% off which we did and ordered 3 appetizers. The cheesy bread was gross. It was not heated enough and it was basically bread and mozzarella cheese. No oil or seasoning. Bland. Yuk. The artichoke dip was a bit better but the dip did not need the pesto added to it. It was almost like they didn't have enough artichoke so they added a jar of pure pesto. On to the final appetizer, nachos. They arrived buried in large pieces of leaves of lettuce and sliced (not chopped tomatoes. Who eats large slices of burger type tomatoes on a small tostada chip? The beans were far and few between the plain chips and very little cheese and meat was used. I don't know who designed this menu but it's like they are using leftovers to make every appetizer. Where are the beans and meat in your nachos? I don't know because you hid it in a pile of salad looking lettuce and tomatoes. We ended up only getting one appetizer comped bc it was not happy hour for the deal. Wonk wonk. Your server told us about the happy hour deal and you didn't deliver but at least one horrible app was not charged on us. I will not return to this place. San Antonio has plenty of restaurant competition especially downtown that despite its location, it does not reflect San Antonio flavor. The only appeal to the place is the patio and the close proximity to a funeral home. If this is my last meal, at least they can roll me over to Angelus. read more

But more so, the food was delicious. One of the highlights was our server Megan. She was very helpful in explaining their menu items and drinks. While the food is decent, the setting was incredibly uncomfortable. It was hot and humid indoors, there was no music to fill in the silence, fruit flies were swarming around our food constantly, and worst of all, the mold and allergens in the restroom triggered my asthma. I'm coughing tons, my chest is tight, and I have to go home in this condition simply because I chose to tag along with some friends to this unsanitary and health hazardous restaurant. Delicious food and good service are how I'd describe this visit to Guillermo's. 5/5 - Taste - I followed the server's recommendation and tried the pepperoni and sausage lasagna. It was an excellent choice. It was traditional lasagna, but filled with a layer of pepperoni and sliced, spicy Italian sausage. It was served piping hot with plenty of cheese, a delicious sauce and garlic bread. It comes with a side salad of your choice. And I opted for the house side salad. Although I was skeptical to try this at first because it was topped with so many different ingredients like green olives and pineapple chunks. But the combination came together well. And the portion was plentiful. 5/5 - Service - we were immediately seated upon entry. There was no wait at all and the restaurant offers both in and outdoor dining options. The server was also quite friendly and helpful. She made great food recommendations and had a very calm and professional demeanor. Atmosphere - 3/5 - We chose to dine inside today. Unfortunately, the table and chairs were not very clean. On top of that, the table we had was very lopsided. I was a bit surprised of the overall condition of the inside dining area. My only complaint is that the prices did not match online to when I came to pay, the cashier said they are working on the website to update the new menu prices. Went here yesterday with a large group. I did not have any issues finding parking at the restaurant. They put together a few tables to accommodate our large group. I would describe the atmosphere as casual. The restaurant is supposed to be haunted. The manager was nice enough to tell us some of his experiences. I ordered a 32oz Weathered Souls Ipa and the Meat lasagna. The Meat Lasgna lived up to its name and had a lot of meat in it. I thought the lasagna had a good flavor and enjoyed it. Patio heaters were suffice for the weather, but it was rather noisy outside. Service was somewhat slow, possibly due to the private party, and it took some time to get drinks. I ordered tea and never got a refill, which at $3.99 for what was, I believe a 12 oz plastic cup was way too steep. I shouldn't have been charged for it.
