I ordered a "Colossus" cold cut sandwich for a party. Originally I wanted to order from Old World Deli but they're closed Sundays so Capri was a second choice that I figured would also be great. I was immediately put off by the $12 "cut fee" for cutting the larger sandwiches, as no other places I looked at charge you for something that should be totally included to begin with. Kayla took my catering order and was very sweet and helpful. On Sunday we picked up the food and brought it to our event only to realize the sandwich was cut maybe halfway through at most. We ended up having to track down a knife to cut it ourselves which was highly inconvenient at a rental hall. Monday I called the shop to let them know and talked to Steve. He said, and I quote, "yeah what do you want? That happens because our knives get dull from how many orders we get, we have to replace our knives every 6 weeks." Maybe not charge for a service you admittedly half-ass at best? Maybe don't blame your equipment? The food was decent, if it weren't for Steve's horrible customer service this would've been 4 starts not 2. I did go into the shop in person and got a $12 refund. I've been going to Capri deli for years and it always hits the spot. Love the cold sandwiches, turkey is my favorite but the bread-leas sandwich or salad is a great option when I want low carb. I'm a sucker for routine and usual go with cold, but the hot sandwiches are delicious too. We love all the selection of chips and bottled sodas that are the perfect complement to your meal. It can be a bit of a line if you come right lunchtime but it moves pretty quick, with efficient and friendly ordering and the open seating is nice to have a meal and go without all the fuss of sit down service. Takeout is a great option too if short on time, and the deli items of take and bake lasagna is always good too. Although we didn't get them today, finishing off the meal with some Italian cookies is always a nice treat. read more

Right when you enter, there's a cashier to your left for phone pick-up. Otherwise, continue walking down to the counter where you can order off the large menu displayed on the wall. All the way tucked in the back is a cozy dining area with 11 tables that can seat four and one long row of joined tables. Cute, green checkered tablecloths adorn almost every surface. Decorations include tons of framed accolades, news articles, and pictures along with an eye-catching surfboard. The garlic bread was lightly toasted, so it was just a little crunchy, not extremely toasted to the point where it scrapes the roof of your mouth. Marinara sauce was slathered on both slices. If you're looking for a classic Italian deli in the Covina area but have never visited Capri Deli, you really don't know what you've been missing for the past 60-or-so years. Not only is this one of the more established delis in the area, but it's also one of the best! Let me begin by stating that their hot pastrami sandwiches are a must-try (packed with lean pastrami, pickles, mustard, and available either hot or cold). I love hot pastramis so, without mentioning some of the local competitors, let me say that I think their meat is the leanest of those around. During Covid, it appears Capri's was unable to secure pastrami meat from their usual supplier, so these sandwiches were unavailable for a while - but now they've been back for some time. My only critique would be that on my most recent visit the menu had been revised to display only the availability of the "smaller" hot pastrami; however, I simply ordered two regulars. I don't know why the large size is off the menu but, if this was an ingenious marketing ploy to sell more, I bit! :D My other sandwich favs include their beef dip (with Swiss) and meatball sub, which is available on their toasted garlic bread, upon request. When dining in, I also recommend ordering a draught root beer from the counter (served in an icy, frosted mug) as the perfect pairing. Please don't assume that Capri's is just a grinder joint because this is a traditional full service deli with a variety of Italian dishes, pizza, salads, desserts, and the like. Many of their dinners (lasagna, ravioli, etc.) are also available pre-packaged for oven heating at home, too. We've ordered their sandwich rings several times over the years for parties or family picnics. If you're a fan of unique and hard-to-find bottled sodas, that is another reason to visit. The coolers across from the service counter are loaded with a variety of beverages. It's also one of the few remaining places that still carries milk varieties from Broguiere's Dairy. (Keep that in mind during the Christmas season, eggnog fans!) At peak times the crowd ordering can get pretty large, but there are usually multiple staff members behind the counter, so service remains quick and efficient. Similarly, the dining-in area is small, but always clean. Additionally, the walls display a good deal of local memorabilia - mostly from a time when this little Covina treasure was part of a Southern California that was still largely citrus groves and open fields. My review is solely based on the customer service received at the pick-up counter. I placed a large order over the phone for pick-up over an hour in advance because Pizza is not ready til AFTER 12pm? Which I already felt was a little odd, but ok. I had a few people that really wanted pizza. So I go to pick our order up right at the designated time and not only did the girl up front not smile, not greet us, she was very dry and almost seemed annoyed. Ok, maybe she's having a bad day? Fine, so they finally come back to give us our order and charge us my order was over $150, so we leave and I was like maybe we should check the food really quick. Thankfully so, they forgot one item. This place is a Covina institution. When I went to Royal Oak HS in the early 1980's fellow students were working there, now I am a teacher at Northview High School and my students are working there. We all know people that live hundreds of miles away and return here for the incredible sandwiches. They've been talked about to death! What I am here to discuss is the EXCEPTIONAL beef jerky. I am a true jerky aficionado/snob. Like most that worship at the altar of dried beef I prefer/demand actual dried beef, not the soft moist crap that is in most bags for sale nowadays. The jerky here is thin and dry and well seasoned! Stuff you could actually imagine a cowboy eating. As a purest, I prefer the no flavor added original or traditional. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years, I absolutely love this place. But the experience I had this past Sunday was the ABSOLUTE WORST. First we call in at 4pm and we're out on hold multiple times, so then I decide to go into the location and put my order in. I understand your establishment closes at 6pm, but my family and I were put on hold since 4pm. Then we make an order for 2 large pizzas, 4 sandwiches, and some other little things. Spent close to $160. The employees were all upset because of the size of the order, but it's not my fault your employees would not answer the phone. Otherwise the order would have been put in 2 hours before closing rather than 1 hour. We waited 50 minutes for the order to get completed, which we understood. We asked the employee if she was kind enough to change the channel to the football game while we wait. She was so rude and upset that we asked her to change the channel. But no problem we watched the game on our phones. Then we get our food and head home, WOW WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT. This pizza was SUPER SOGGY and tasted like dish soap. The sandwiches were good, but my family was SUPER EXCITED about the pizza. I tell all my family and friends how amazing the food is. I was absolutely embarrassed. I went to Pizza Hut to get pizzas so we could all eat. I'm sorry if your employees don't want to work or are tired please let them know not to take it out on the customers. Have not been here in more than fifteen years. This is one of Covinas great places to grab a sandwich. Lines are long when you come during the lunch rush. Don't worry the employees behind the counter will take care of you. There is a dining area not too big nor too small. Sandwiches are made fresh and are pretty healthy portion. There is also a section to buy products for cooking and of course the deli counter if you want meats and cheeses. First of all great food, but horrible customer service. They got like twenty people working and all but two are working the line and they are busy doing phone orders. No acknowledgement of customer when walking in. I was in front of the line with a line out the door and had three different people help me to make one sandwich. The first said I can help who ever is next, then said never mind. Went to take a food order to a table and came back to help the person pick up a phone order. Second girl was the worst ask me what I wanted, one sandwich. And left to the back and never came back. Five minutes later another girls came back out to help me. I over heard her saying to another girl that the girl helping me went on brake and didn't tell anyone.
