This was the first time I came here with my girlfriend and I can say, will definitely be coming again. First off the atmosphere is amazing, very cute yet sophisticated, and the layout is just amazing. The service was top tier, I honestly felt right at home. The Beef Carpaccio was one of the best we've ever had, amazing flavors. The pasta my girlfriend had and the short ribs I had were both delicious, I nearly wanted to lick the plate clean off. Capriciano Osteria is such a great addition to downtown Santa Rosa! From the moment we walked in, it felt like a little slice of Italy. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and beautifully prepared. The service was just as impressive--our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the entire meal. We got a bottle of champagne, and he was always there to keep our glasses full without ever missing a beat. And let's talk about dessert! We ended the night with a coffee and cherry dessert that was absolutely incredible--the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. Delicious food, outstanding service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Been wanting to try Capriciano Osteria since I heard it was the former chef from Mezzaluna in Cotati - a restaurant I love. We dropped in on a Saturday night, at about 7:20 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait, so we used their notification system and went to another place to wait. We were notified about 25 minutes later, and seated promptly. The place was busltling! The bar area was full, and there were several large groups inside and outside. We were seated at a nice table in the main dining room. We ordered oysters, and wine to start. They have a nice wine menu, with local selections, as well as many from France and Italy. I had a nice vermentino. They oysters were ok - there was little brine, but they made up for that with shell, so they have a little room for improvement there. We followed the oysters with burrata, which was good - and it sat atop a nice tomato and strawberry salad wth arugula and pistachios. We both liked this dish. We had the salmon and chicken parmesan for our main entrees. The salmon was nicely prepared, and served over mashed potatoes. The ChickParm was a little odd. They served spaghetti on top of the poor chicken so it didn't have much chance to stay crispy. A nice presentation maybe, but at the chicken's expense. It was quite tender. We did feel both dishes lacked salt and spice, but they were more than happy to provide mills to help level it up. We finished with panna cotta, which was a little peculiar. It was VERY rich, like it had been made with creme. Rather than being light and delicate, it was quite heavy, and had noticeable chewy skin on the top. It was topped with blueberry compote, that was almost jammy. We weren't particularly impressed by that. Overall, service was friendly and mostly responsive, and the food was generally good, though nothing really stood out as special. I have confidence they will work the kinks out in time - this is all pretty common stuff for a newly opened restaurant. Would have been 3 stars for an established restaurant, but i'll cut them some slack - I'll definitely go back, but they are still working a few things out. read more

I am a little conflicted about this place Our server was so sweet and kind ! And I would say the risotto was the BEST risotto I've ever had! It was so creamy and rich and with the right amount of seafood! They initially got my sister's order wrong and they quickly changed it to lasagna for us However the lasagna was undercooked and very doughy. Also I found a piece of plastic serán wrap inside the lasagna. I let the server know and they took it off the bill for us... so I didn't include it in the photos. However it is also worth noting that the chef introduced himself to EVERYONE at the restaurant except us. (Maybe we looked a little different than everyone else? ) He also never apologized personally for the food. So take that as you will. Beautiful restaurant with excellent servers. We could smell the delicious aroma before we even got to the door. We got the charcuterie board and shared the mushroom and sausage pizza with a couple glasses of wine!! There's a lot of exciting buzz about this new restaurant and rightfully so! A line out the door, every patio table was occupied - great energy. It began with a warm, welcoming vibe and smiling faces when greeted. Our server was great and guided us well in our selections. We brought champagne and wine and he brought an iced bucket immediately. The bread was very good and was lightly grilled which added to the flavor and was served with a balsamic/oil dipping sauce. We shared the calamari appetizer which was delicately fried and of ample size. Everyone enjoyed their salads and entrees. The short ribs dish I ordered was divine. My family and I had a lovely dinner here only THREE days after they opened by a happy chance. The food was well prepared. Sometimes a little small on the portion size for the shareables. And the service was friendly. I had steak. The kids had the steak, pork chop and salmon. The salmon was kind of the star of the show for the kids. BUT... My wife ordered the short rib and by the end of dinner we ALL wish we had ordered that. My wife and I shared a very lovely beet salad. The kids also destroyed a fried calamari. They have a few little kinks to work out but they get top ratings for working hard and making delicious food while making my family happy. New places have things to work out of course, so expect that while the get into their groove. We sat inside, it was a bit loud due to a very loud group next to us but once they left it was very nice inside. Well appointed with pillows (which my son loved) and comfortable spaces. Overall, highly recommend and I hope we get to go back and sit outside on a nice evening on the lovely patio(it was a little chilly the night we were there). Upon a recommendation from our daughter, who said their Chicken Parm, Risotto ai Frutti di Mare, and Oysters were all excellent, we tried them for our anniversary. Ambiance: Clean, rustic, albeit with a view of Mendocino Avenue. Service: Prompt and attentive. Food: We were served two slices of warm grilled Italian bread buttered, with olive oile vinegar dip. We didn't need the dip. And it was so good! Last night was our second time at this charming new restaurant. It was our wedding anniversary and we were treated to glasses of a lovely Prosecco when we first arrived. We ordered Mediterranean olives, the Capriciano salad, the ravioli, lamb chops and panna cotta. Everything was delicious; our only complaint was that the lamb chops had more fat than meat on them. Everything on the plate was flavorful but there were only a few bites of actual meat and I had to work hard to get all the fat out of the way. I've grilled racks of lamb many times with much more meat on the bones. We mentioned this to our great server who said she'd tell the chef but nothing more was said about it. Service was quite slow by usual standards but we just pretended we were in Italy where slow service is the standard. On our adventure to find a solid Italian place in Santa Rosa, one of my husband's coworkers recommended Capriciano. Since it's downtown and we both work downtown, it was an easy spot to meet up for date night. We were seated quickly and our waiter was very nice. We ordered the meatballs, Ceasar Salad, and the Braised Short Rib. Everything was incredibly disappointing. To start, the bread was fine but the oil and vinegar were already mixed together in a not very shallow bowl. So if you wanted any vinegar you had to submerge your bread in the oil. It should be serves in a shallow dish or let us do it ourselves. The meatballs were dry. The red sauce on top was nice but it needed more to make up for the dryness of the meat. There also wasn't a lot of flavor to the meatball without the sauce. The braised short rib also lacked flavor. It was almost like there was no seasoning of any sort used on any of the dishes. I don't mind having to add my own salt or pepper but there wasn't any on the table. At the end, we weren't very impressed at all. The drinks were expensive and the food wasn't great. We had high hopes but now we're just questioning the coworkers taste in food. read more

Incredible all 3 were & my Ribs were so tender & delectable I would recommend having that entree. Capriciano was a complete let down. From poor and rude service to unedible food. The young woman who was at the kiosk when we checked in had a look as if we were in her way. No smile, no welcome greeting, we were the only ones checking in for our reservation. We gave her our name and she looked as if she couldn't find it, said to wait here and walked a few steps and began chatting with another staff member. We were unclear of what was happening. There were at least 5 staff standing around the bar chit chatting. One of the waiters in a booming voice said someone would be with us shortly. Another staff member walked over and again asked what we were doing? We again explained we had reservations. She saw on her ipad and she said to follow her to the table crammed into a corner of a very large and spacious room.  We sat next to a table of four and directly behind us a table with 8 which made service a nightmare. They would squeeze between my husband's chair and the table behind him.  Our waitress could not fit to actually serve us. To take our order they leaned over the little half wall that led to the kitchen. Not professional and definitely didn't give the feeling of a fine dining experience.  The chef would pop out and lurk around the wall into the dining area. Creepy. When serving the table next to us we would have someone's behind in our face. The food was awful full stop. The beet salad was nothing special and felt like the ingredients came from Costco. The pasta was soggy and over cooked. The worst was the meatballs. An appetizer of 3 savory meatballs. They were served with mashed potatoes? Okay, I'm all for thinking outside the box yet the vibe and hype has been about an authentic osteria experience. The meat was bland beyond anything I have ever ordered.  Will not be returning. There are so many really good and authentic Italian restaurants in Sonoma County and in Santa Rosa. Vegan review! I was drawn to try this place because their menu seemed to be vegan friendly. When we got there we figured out that the menu was not really correct- there was no key for the symbols for vegan/vegetarian/dairy-free and the symbols they used were not consistent. This did not turn out to be a problem, because our server was so good at communicating with us and confirming with the kitchen what could be made vegan. Everything we had was amazing! The Tuscan white bean soup was veganized by leaving out the cream and kale. We also got a margherita pizza subbing mushrooms for the cheese, the broccolini and the spaghetti without the clams. Every dish was memorable, flavorful and perfectly executed. The restaurant space itself is very beautiful, and our server (I think her name was Sarah) was great. We really like Loccoco but we like the ambiance more at Capriciano's as it's quieter and more open. But Loccoco's food is slightly better. Four of us girlfriends get together for an annual reunion. We met at UCSB nearly 27 years ago. We had enjoyed a wonderful weekend while three gfs were visting. I thought let's go out one of the nights to experience this new Osteria. We sat at our four top closer to the back of the room. There was a lot of background chatter and it was busy. Our server didn't visit the table for nearly 20 min from the moment the first two were seated. When she did come over she seemed stressed, was curt and brief. We chalked it up to the busyness. We ordered spritzs and wine. We ordered calamari and caesar salad to start and the mushroom limone ravioli, spaghetti vongole and sea bass as the mains. We didnt even want to ask our server named Lisa to take a photo of us ladies b/c she was dismissive from the get go. Right before we got our mains, she came over and asked us, "Are you enjoying yourselves? Because the other tables are NOT! You are being too loud." One would have thought we were swinging off a chandelier or something but we were just 4 old college gfs enjoying time together with laughter. She pointed out that the table behind us were on a date and had said we were really disturbing them. Lisa also said she could hear us from outside. I took it upon me to test this and could not hear a single thing at any of the tables while I stood outside. lol Then she returned to demean us some more! The elegant woman on the date found my gf in the ladies room. She purposely sought my gf out to tell her that the server had asked her husband and her if we were being too loud for them. They said they are excited, they are having a good time. The lady didn't want us to stop and felt terrible that the server pinned this on them. She was happy to see us having a great night. Knowing this information we were so shocked the server had lied. Our night was ruined. Service was terrible. I put a note on the receipt, paid way less of a tip. I never review but felt it necessary.
