    Tortellini alla Romana
    Nicole D.

Went here on a Friday night around 8pm. The atmosphere was a little dead and quite which was fine for my family because we were able to be seated right away. I believe they closed at 9pm, so it was kind of expected they not be too busy. It was pretty chilly inside so we asked to sit on the patio, it was great. After the drinks orders were taken bread and tapenade was brought to the table. The bread was very cold, so we didn't eat it, but it was a nice gesture. I got the tortellini, my husband got a seafood linguini, and my daughter got spaghetti. All the food was very good. It was really nice that even though they don't have a children's menu they were able to do a children's portion for my daughter. She loved the server, who might have been the owner. It was all really good. Definitely worth a try.

Very friendly staff, who seem to know the regulars by name and try to make every costomer feel welcome. Very cozy neighborhood vibes. You can tell the family who owns this place has invested a lot of themselves into it. Classic Italian-American fare.

We found this restaurant based on yelp reviews while we were visiting the town. The restaurant is cute and we were able to seat quickly upon arrival with friendly staffs were nice. The Calamari Fritti was fresh and delicious; crispy and chewy. For the entrees, we ordered Meat lasagna, Linguine Pescatore and Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. Both lasagna and linguine pescatore are good while the breast chicken from the chicken fettuccine alfredo was a little dried. For the desserts, we ordered the special of the day, lemon cheese cake along with their home made tiramisu and Crème brulee. Among the 3 desserts, we like the lemon cheese cake and the tiramisu. Overall, we the restaurant is cute and the foods are descent and we will definitely revisit again in the future.

My gorgeous wife and I have been wanting to try Trattoria Cattaneo for a few years now and we finally did tonight. Wow. Incredible food! The staff was so welcoming and friendly. Seems like a family run restaurant which makes all the difference to me. They asked if we wanted bread... of course we do. They brought focaccia with an olive tapenade that was very tasty. I ordered the creamy minestrone. Best minestrone I've ever had. I also had the pappardelle with spicy sausage, mushrooms and fresh tomato. Love this place and I will definitely be back!

My husband and I have been meaning to try this place for the longest time. We both got a hankering for Italian so we decided to try Trattoria Cattaneo. The restaurant is quaint and the walls are full of wonderful family photos. The servers are so friendly and inviting. We started with a cup of their soup of the day, a creamy minestrone which was amazing. My husband and I split their Caesar salad, which was also great. They'd also brought out some delicious focaccia with the most wonderful tapenade. I ordered their Tortellini allá Romana (cheese tortellini in a rich garlic cream sauce with peas and diced prosciutto) and my husband went with their Pappardelle Salsiccia (Italian sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, and chili flakes cooked together and tossed over fresh pappardelle pasta). Both of our dishes were divine! We absolutely loved it and are eager to go back.

Wow we really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it just didn't deliver for us. Walking in the place feels authentic, just as you might find in the Old World. It's owned and operated by a gentleman from Sicily (I think that's where he said he was from) and he and his service team were on it. They will definitely make you feel warm and welcomed. We were starved so we got right to our main courses of linguini carbonara and chicken parm, which was served with bread and what I think was a fresh garlic pesto? Not exactly that, but good. The carbonara was a good sized portion, looked great, but just lacked flavor; which is hard to believe for a carbonara. Specifically it tasted watered down, didn't taste seasoned and overall just didn't do it for us. Half was eaten and the rest we took with us but never saw the light of day again. The chicken parm was maybe a bit better, but it just wasn't fresh and did nothing to excite me. The chicken was chewy, almost like frozen and thawed more than once. The sauce was ok but nothing to write home about. I've written low star reviews before but this one I actually feel a little bad about because the owner and staff exuded such passion for this place! I only wish that passion came through food as well.

This was our 2nd visit and looked forward to it since the 1st time was pretty decent. Unfortunately, it didn't go that way. We sat before our reservation which was good. The young lady taking our drink order and replenishing our water was a gem. The service was on top of things so 5 stars for that. The food was just ok. The gnocchi with pesto and marinara was more smashed potato in a ball form covered with sauce. The salmon was tasty along with the pasta with clams. The presentation of the parmigiana wasn't too appealing but my husband enjoyed it. The calamari was normal crispy nothing out the ordinary dish. We did have an incident with a soft drink. My son noticed ants around and inside the glass. I brought it to the manager's attention. He brought a new soft drink in a new glass, apologized and removed from the bill. It was handled very respectfully and professionally and hopefully it was only a fluke. The restaurant became quite busy as the evening progressed. We may try again.

Not sure what to say about dinner the other night. We've eaten here several times over the last 5 years and it's more of a miss than a hit since Covid. We had reservations for 4 + toddler this was the first time we brought guests. 2 of us ordered soup to start because it was so cold, we had calamari appetizer both were good - but let's face it, I doubt they are making calamari from scratch- it's an expected prepared frozen product and it was cooked right and good. Dinner, I had lasagna, 2 people had chicken parm and one had gnocchi with sausage. The lasagna was at one point homemade but tasted frozen and heated. The bottom noodles layer was hard, crusty like old frozen noodle, thr edge was discolored like freezer burn- the inside filling watery and still cold but the top cooked and visually appealing. The chicken parm arrived cold, our friend questioned if there was breading (there was but it was so minimal) both dishes arrived luke warm. Neither hubby nor our guest came close to finishing leaving over half. Side of Pasta underwhelming bland.. toddler liked it. Our friend had mixed feelings on gnocchi .. We decided to end with dessert as dinner was a disappointment. I love creme brûlée and my friend loves tiramisu. The creme brulee was not cooked properly. The custard over cooked, wrong consistency, wrong taste - we left it. Tiramisu no longer made with lady finger cookies but sponge cake. Total disappointment. Insult to injury on the way home 3 of us had indigestion and 2 had tummy issues that night. Such a disappointment as we've enjoyed the family and friendly owners. *The inconsistencies of food temp has been an ongoing issue with previous visits as well. The kitchen is super tiny, not sure if food sits, it's prepared and frozen to help cut down on prep time, but it's really impacting the quality. I hope a solution is found.

Oooooh man! Let me tell you about this spot, the pasta is delicious! The staff workers are super sweet and on top of their service. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're a pasta lover! Michela was the best!

My partner and I tried this place out three nights ago for dinner. We wanted to carbo load before our half marathon the next marathon. We made reservations and showed up. The bread was okay and not our preference. My partner ordered the Beef Raviolio Bolognese which was decent! It tasted very average. I ordered the Linguini Vongole and it was very very spicy. I would have preferred the consistency of the sauce to be a bit thicker as it was very liquid-y. The pasta was subpar. On a brighter note, the servers were very friendly and the owner was very gracious. Great customer service, okay food.

Special plate made by Riccardo. The tomatoes were amazing

Most authentic and delicious Italian place in Sonoma! Every dish that came out was spectacular. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Plenty of parking in the lot. Seated promptly. They have a bar with plenty of wine and beers on tap. There are many family photos of Riccardo's life along the walls which tells you how family-oriented he is. Some of these recipes are family secrets! Even the bread (house made foccacia) was the best I've had prior to a dinner. That olive garlic special sauce they make is to die for. I've never had such a good bread dipping sauce before! It tasted like meat. Riccardo made us a special plate and my wife lovedddd the tomatoes. Minestrone soup was really good. Great thick tomato flavor with plenty of veggies. My wife gobbled it all up before I could have my 5th spoonful. The gluten free bolognese was a good dish, especially when you can't have gluten but want authentic Italian. Super meaty. The pappardelle was an awesome choice. The pasta was wide and chewy, going perfectly with the mushroom and homemade sausage. I would definitely order that again (after I try all the other amazing choices on the menu). The crème brûlée was great. Nice smooth and soft eggy texture with a perfectly crisp almond-coated top. Recommend for dessert. We also had that paired with a glass of port and it worked wonderfully! The service was phenomenal. Even though they were short staffed, they checked on every table often. Water was always refilled before it got too low. Plenty of suggestions were given when ordering. Riccardo definitely knows what he is doing with his restaurant. You can tell the passion he has when he talks about the food!

    Meat Lasagna

Went here for the first time last night. Restaurant in general seems not very clean. Food is absolutely the worst Italian food I ever had. With full view into the kitchen we could watch it all go down. The Lasagna appeared to be a frozen blob that got microwaved, put into an over for a bit and then had some meat sauce poured over the top. It looked just like a glob and it tasted awful. Husband said the meat in his Raviolis tasted bitter. His stomach was not happy all thru the night. We will def never eat there again.

I wanted a glass of red to accompany the dish and was contemplating a Primitivo. When I mentioned this to Julie, she offered an off list Primitivo without the jammy punch. Once seated, it took another 20+ minutes before anyone came to take our order -- we eventually had to flag down the hostess ourselves to say we were ready. When the food arrived, it was missing an appetizer and one of the dinner entrees. Service throughout the meal was inconsistent: our waiter never asked if we wanted drinks, and we had to request one ourselves, without ever being asked if others at the table wanted anything to drink. Multiple times we had to flag down other servers just to get basic service, and we asked for a dessert menu three separate times before it showed up. Most concerning, my toddler has an egg allergy, and we had to confirm multiple times whether dishes contained egg. At one point the waiter responded that it "wasn't a big egg allergy," which was a confusing and honestly worrying thing to hear when asking about food safety for a child. On top of all that, the affogato wasn't actually an affogato -- it was just frozen vanilla ice cream with frozen espresso, not the classic hot-espresso-poured-over-ice-cream dessert we expected. Food overall was subpar, we also saw 3 of the wait staff take a shot of alcohol with another table while completing ignoring service for our table. Overall, a disappointing experience with very slow, inattentive service and a concerning lack of clarity around allergy safety. We definitely will not recommend to family and friends, and will go out of our way to mention to any travelers to the area to avoid this place!

From the outside, it's a pretty unassuming building. When we walked in, I got more of a diner vibe than an Italian restaurant. The décor is simple and straightforward without a lot of frills, but we were there for the food, not the décor. We were seated almost immediately, and our waitress was friendly and laid back. She also let us know that we had arrived just in time for happy hour, so naturally we had to order some drinks and appetizers. We tried both the red and white sangrias, which our waitress had made fresh that day. They were refreshing and hit the spot. To start, we ordered the calamari and shared a Caesar salad. We also enjoyed some of the house focaccia bread. For our entrées, I chose the Lamb Ragu while my wife went with the Pappardelle Bolognese. Everything arrived in a timely manner and came out hot and fresh. The calamari was crispy and well prepared. The focaccia was good, although I would have preferred it served warm. The Caesar salad was flavorful and the perfect size for sharing. The lamb in the Lamb Ragu was cooked perfectly, and the pasta had a great texture and chew. The Pappardelle Bolognese was hearty, meaty, and equally well executed. Portion sizes for both dishes were just right and satisfying without being overwhelming. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and had a pleasant dining experience. My only critique is that both pasta dishes could have used a little more seasoning, particularly salt, to make the flavors pop a bit more. Aside from that, Eddie's delivered a good Italian dinner with friendly service and good value.

The backyard patio is bigger than you'd expect... lots of shaded tables. Our server was easygoing, prompt, and accurate. She did a great job recommending menu items. The food was delicious. Large entree salads, pasta cooked perfectly al dente, and nice sides as well. Only thing is - you have to remember to ask for Sourdough and sun-dried tomato butter. That is only given on request. Enjoy!

At one point my girlfriend and I were walking from the outside courtyard where the dinner was taking place toward the inside of the restaurant, innocently looking for the restrooms. Some employee with a beard, without saying a word, aggressively steps right in front of us to block our path, as if we we were two homeless people trying to walk in off the street. Doesn't ask "can I help you find something"? or do anything that a cordial person in the restaurant business would do. He just stares at us with a stupid smirk on his face. Seriously, clown? After a couple of awkward seconds, I ask where the bathrooms are and he finally points them out to us. What's worse, at the end of the night, my niece was leaving with her husband when another female staff member rudely told them they couldn't exit directly out the parking lot (even though it was the same entrance where people came in at beginning of the party) and actually grabbed my niece's arm. My niece told her "don't touch me." This staff person then went inside the restaurant and my niece heard the employee screaming in anger. Incredible that this is how their people treat their customers during a huge event. The owner should be completely embarrassed by their employees' unprofessional and rude behavior. They might want to get their employees some anger management training or better yet hire new ones that have experience in the hospitality industry. Until then, pretty sure we can get good meatballs and lasagna some place else that doesn't treat paying customers like garbage.

To begin with we ordered drinks off the Happy Hour menu and the calamari and the chicken wings for appetizers off of the Happy Hour menu as well. Both apps were excellent. The chicken wings were very crispy and perfectly cooked and came with a garlic ranch dressing and nice and crunch carrots and celery. The calamari was crispy and came with four different sauces, which were very good. Each of our group ordered a different entree. I ordered the chicken parmesan. It was two medium-sized pieces of chicken, perfectly pounded, with a crispy breading and sauteed with melted cheese on top. It had a side of spaghetti noodles and sauteed garlic spinach. Very, very good. My BF had the spaghetti and meatballs. He was very happy with his dish. Both dishes were good sized too. My mother had the baked penne bolognese and she loved it. It was huge and was able to take some home. The other two in our group had the chicken marsala and a shitake and sausage pizza. Both were very happy with their dishes. Our server was an Indian gal, who was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. We always ask to have each course spaced out. It is a major pet peeve of mine if I'm eating my pre-dinner salad and my entree comes out while I'm still eating it. And that's not even at lower end restaurants, but at nicer restaurants too. They just don't care, they just want you out of there so they can serve the next table. Of course, we asked our server for the same here, to please not bring each course until we've finished the previous course. And was sooo happy when that is exactly what she did. It all has to do with the server and when she turns the order into the kitchen. She was excellent. We will be coming back for sure.

Beef short ribs - yes!!! With zucchini carrot "noodles". Both were so delicious. The beef easily fell of the bone - so tender!
