Dinner at Caps tonight. Our family is visiting and we all love Caps. Waited in the bar area for our table for five. Excellent bar service at the bar in the back by Poncho- good drinks - our adult kids tried several different mixed drinks all great. Had a table with an excellent water view. Brandon was excellent took great care of us. My wife had their pasta shrimp and scallops Alfredo which she loved. I had their crab cake dinner - two perfectly cooked crab cakes for sides I had asparagus and rice. Daughter had the flounder blackened with hush puppies and asparagus. The flounder was a bit dry. The asparagus tonight was on the smaller size - perfectly cooked but I prefer larger diameter asparagus. Tuna was excellent. Great taste. 3% adder for credit cards - no adder for cash or debit card. So great views friendly staff. Excellent drinks. Tonight 4/5.
I was so pleased to come here and have a couple of drinks and snacks with good company. The service, food and ambiance were fantastic, making the evening even better! This is a place that won't seat you until the entire party has arrived (which is fine and totally fair) so we went to the bar to wait for the rest of the party. Absolutely wonderful decision. We had espresso martini, and Aperol spritz. Two drinks I could live off of, and they were near the top of the best I've had (I tried both this trip. Variety!) plus who doesn't love the color of an Aperol spritz at sunset?! Once our party arrived we were sat and we decided on just a bunch of appetizers. Had to start with Oysters. There were so many options and honestly I forget which we decided on - but the server mentioned they were a little small but tasty. Imagine our surprise when they were absolutely not small! We also had some fries which were the exact right amount of crispy and seasoned and some fish nuggets. Also perfectly crispy and seasoned. Our server was lovely. Kept our drinks full and had some fun banter with the table. Also, if you've not ever been make sure there isn't rain in the schedule because sitting outside is glorious. And they only have valet parking (also very pleasant people). Can't wait for my next visit!
This place was amazing! It was our FAVORITE place to eat while we were on vacation. The service staff were awesome and the food was delicious and flavorful! It was everything we wanted it to be. From the yummy she crab soup, to the garlic oysters to the oysters on the half shell, I was very impressed and pleased. My son's Salmon was his favorite restaurant meal in a long time and my youngest son found a new love for gator tail too. We loved the atmosphere and how the whole restaurant is laid out because it had different parts to it. The outside patio was a stunning place to dine and we would have definitely been out there enjoying the beautiful sunset if it weren't raining. My family and I vowed to come back here and eat again next time we come down to visit. We can only imagine how much better it is when it's not raining!
This spot has hands down one of the most beautiful restaurant views. My my boyfriend and I came here for six months and now we're back for our five year anniversary. It is so nostalgic to us and special. When we first got there since they don't take reservations, they said that the wait for outside was about 45 minutes but we could be seated immediately indoors. We were seated inside but after looking at the views, I knew I just wanted to be outside so we actually ended up waiting to sit outside and it was actually fine because you can sit on their beautiful elevated dock overlooking the water and they have a girl there that will take your order for any drinks or appetizers. We ended up ordering the fish dip and I got a Mojito. Both were good, but I do wish that the fish dip had a little bit more fish dip, it seemed kind of like a small amount for the price you pay. After waiting a little bit close to an hour, we were seated right by the water and it was so stunning. Our waiter was Brandon and he was very kind and attentive. We ordered our food and for my entrée I got the herb crusted flounder and that was delicious. It came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I feel like both the entrées were perfect portions. We also got the pesto ceaser salad, and that was fine - I feel like it could have been more flavorful, but it was still fresh! It's just such a lovely view and you really feel at peace at this spot. Absolutely love it and can't wait to go back soon for another special occasion!
This was my first time at Caps and it was a beautiful setting for a lovely dinner. Waitress 100%. Drinks 100%. Food 100%. My mother and I went to dinner here and it was a perfect evening to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the water and sunset. We had drinks and amazing meals, my mom thought the scallop and shrimp scampi pasta was a bit too spicy for her liking (it had red pepper flakes on it), and when we let our waitress (Claire) know, she was extremely accommodating with offering another option. I had the special, tilapia topped with a crab cake, mashed potatoes and asparagus with a delicious sauce, I was very pleased with the whole experience. I will definitely go back!!
This place completely blew us away. The restaurant is stunning and huge, with plenty of different seating areas to enjoy. Even though it was packed and we didn't have reservations, we were seated within 15 minutes. While you wait, you can grab a drink at the bar, take a walk by the beach, or enjoy the sunset from their pier, which alone makes the experience unforgettable. They also offer complimentary valet parking, which was a really nice touch and made the whole experience even more convenient The service was phenomenal from start to finish. Everyone was incredibly kind, from the hostesses to our server, who was attentive and consistently checked on us without being intrusive. Prices are very fair considering the portion sizes, quality of the food, and the unbeatable waterfront location. Nothing felt overpriced For appetizers, we had the tuna tartare and the smoked salmon bruschetta, both were absolutely delicious. I ordered one of the specials: grouper topped with a crab cake and lobster cream sauce, served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. When I say I devoured my plate faster than I should have, I mean it, it was that good. My fiance ordered the catch preparation (grouper as well), served with rice and curry with plantains. All the seafood tasted incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right We finished with the key lime pie, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Overall, this will definitely be one of the highlights of your trip if you're in St. Augustine. We loved everything about our experience and will absolutely be back every time we're in the city!!
Just amazing. Food from start to finish was incredible. We started with the rock shrimp. A bit tough to peel but oh so worth it! Yum! We also had raw oysters which were briny and delicious but the shucker needs some education. None of the oysters were fully detached and there were shells, nonetheless they were delicious. We had the fresh catch special, which was a drum fish from Virginia prepared with a Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc, asparagus and mashed potatoes. It melted in your mouth and we loved it. And the view is perfect.
Came here for the first time for my dads birthday back in August and we had the best time! They do not take reservations here to my understanding, but we came early and were seated with a beautiful view of the intercostal. The menu? Superb! It's one of those places that everyone can find something to eat. We started with their oysters and then I had an amazing salad with grilled shrimp. Yum! Our whole party enjoyed everything we ordered, and our server was 10/10! Until next time Caps!
We only had a limited amount of time. We were unable to wait 45 minutes for a table on the water. So we were seated in the garden area. Very zen. Martina was our server and she was amazing. We started with cocktails and all of them were outstanding. The American Dream, The Pain Killer, Last Bovine and the Dirty Datil Martini (very spicy). For dinner we ate relatively light as we had been to Buc-EES at 1:00 in the afternoon and were not very hungry. I and my brother in law had the gumbo which was thick & chock full of seafood. My sister had the Tuna appetizer, my husband had the blackened scallops. The presentation of every dish was beautiful and delicious. Highly recommend. The long ride was worth it.
Hubby decided to surprise me with a day trip to St. Augustine. He planned everything out and even googled a restaurant out away from the downtown district. We pulled up to a valet parking only restaurant. Walked up to the hostess and was shortly seated by the most pleasant hostess. The atmosphere was amazing. The whole restaurant is open outdoors but with coverage of the weather is crappy. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with the truffle fries. Hubby ordered the Ahi tacos with regular fries. We even had the smoked fish dip as an appetizer. Everything was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was on it with drink replenishment and keeping us up to date with the food order. Recommend 10/10 to try this spot.
Came here for my anniversary dinner. Service was great, views were awesome, food was INCREDIBLE!! The lobster ravioli was one of those meals that you think about for a while after. Get it!!!
1. GLENNI is the cutest, friendliest, and nicest waitress I've ever had at Caps! LOVE HER!!!!!!!! The food was incredible and this special: crab topped flounder... THIS NEEDS TO BE A PERMANENT ITEM ON THE MENU! Such an amazing evening with great service & beautiful sunset view as always!!!
This is a must try spot in st. augustine! We hung out at the outside bar while waiting for a table, it was very pretty. This place is packed normally so get a reservation if you can. The shrimp and scallop pasta was melt in your mouth good. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the sauce was garlicky goodness. It is a bit pricey so save up the money and come check this place out!

We were in town for a family thing and decided to go out for a birthday dinner here. Of course there are a lot of seafood options, but I'm a steak guy at heart, so I went with the 8 oz filet. Nicely seasoned, and a good sear on it. Not a huge spinach fan, but this was pretty good, and the mashed potatoes were good, too. Nice place, way bigger than it looks from the front. After dinner, it was nice to stroll to the dock and take a few pictures and enjoy the weather. read more

I have been to Caps many times over the years and it's one of my favorite restaurants in St Augustine! With help from one of the managers, Jeff, we were able to get my party of 20 in to celebrate my engagement! The food was delicious and the service was quick! This restaurant is a destination. If you go, you must try to sit outside. The view and the ambience outside are both outstanding. The Calamari Vilano appetizer is great. The Vanilla Grouper and the Shrimp and Scallop Saute were both very good. Highly recommend dining here read more

This place is 10/10 every time. Get the Calamari and Oysters, fresh or Rockefeller are both incredible. The salmon was delicious but you really can't go wrong with anything here. And going at sunset is just chef's kiss. read more

Always been a fan of Caps, so I decided to bring my parents so they could experience it. To start there's complimentary valet! We had no wait to be seated for dinner. Absolutely love Caps. Its a beautiful restaurant- great views, great food, and great service. They dont take reservations, but they are very efficient. Valet is complimentary. You may have to wait in line, but again they are pretty efficient. You can sit on the dock while you're waiting and order drinks and apps. Love their grouper. The vanilla grouper is amazing but this time I ordered there catch of the day which was grouper and had it blackened and it was delish! read more

Went here last night for dinner and it was beyond amazing. I got the honey rosemary salmon and the person i was with go fish and chips. We had a coffee martini. The waiter recommended a certain boirbon instead of vodka and we had another drink he reomcommended. Both were beyond good. They dont do reservations and your entire party needs to he there before they will seat you, which i like. We closed the place down. If you want a romantic date, great food, and great drinks, this is the place. We will be back read more
What a beautiful Resturant!!! Omg, so I had just heard about this place an decided to ride down to St. Augustine...its on A1A, which is a quick drive from where I live. Got there and I had no idea how beautiful this spot was....Mostly outside with bars but there's also an inside, they have so many heaters set up, till it makes u forget that it's 50° and we are on the water lol. Ok so let's get to the Grub. I ordered the Grouper nuggets for the app For my Entree I got the fresh catch which was Reds, seared over wild rice n Asparagus, which was really good. Worth the Wait This spot doesn't take reservations but trust me, you won't be disappointed with the wait. They have servers who will get you drinks and apps while you wait on a dock over the water. This may honestly be my favorite part We love bringing out of town guests here because it's truly the Florida experience. Fresh seafood and beautiful views. ALWAYS opt for the water view for your seating, totally worth the extra wait time! FOOD Always get the truffle fries as an app and fresh catch for dinner! read more

Food was delicious! Service was also fast and efficient. The catch of the day portion was quite small, so that's the only reason one star is knocked down. This place had me a little puzzled to be honest. If I could I'd give it 3.5. However I recognize that the draw for this spot is being out on the water enjoying your meal, and we unfortunately were here when it was about 40 degrees, windy, drizzly and downright frigid, lol. So to the inside we went. The night started with required valet parking. Ok, cool. Sort of speaks to what kind of place it is right? Well, kinda but not really. I was a bit shocked at our super nice meal being served on plastic plates, with water in cafeteria-style plastic cups, and ultra cheap cafeteria silverware. I don't mean to sound snobby here at all, but what the heck. The contrast between valet parking and how we dined was something I'd never experienced before. Our meal, at least my husband's was maybe 4 stars - he enjoyed his butter aged ribs. That was a really neat and unique feature of this restaurant and he's glad he splurged despite the hefty price tag to try something new but wasn't sure if it was worth the price. I chose the redfish which was actually quite good, but the side of carrots wasn't anything to write home about. With my special dietary needs I ended up with their tomato jam (I forget if that's what they called it) for dipping/spreading on with my fish. Quite good! I don't know maybe 3 stars is harsh but I can't get over the cheap-feeling experience of the dinnerware despite having valet parking and what seems like a very nice menu (although I feel like there's better out there). Would I return? Yes, I'd give it a second try but ONLY if we could experience the outdoor seating. read more

This gem is located near the coastline. Not only the views are amazing but the food is too. I ordered the crab crusted salmon and it was delicious. The hospitality was outstanding. My party was having the time of our lives and the staff didn't rush us to leave despite being closed and cleaning up for the night. Can't wait to dine here again. read more

Maybe one of the most beautiful in the area. I had the most amazing time with friends Saturday night at Cap's On The Water. The service and food were excellent. And dinner with a waterfront view was a bonus! I met friends and our wait was roughly 15 minutes for a table on the patio. They had a nice pier with benches and servers taking drink orders. So you can take in the view while you wait. Once seated we started off with crab claws and calamari appetizers. The crab claws was a special for the day and I'm so glad we tried them because they were delicious! They already removed the shell so all we had to do was eat. The sauce included garlic and onions and was great for bread dipping. We did not let any of the sauce go to waste. The calamari was also tasty with a nice spicy dipping sauce. Our server was great! He told us all the specials and was super friendly and helpful. For dinner I chose panko crusted Chilean sea bass which came with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. Holy moly I hit the jackpot! The sea bass with cooked perfectly with a light crunch on the outside and tender fish meat on the inside. And the lemon caper sauce it was cooked in was divine! The grilled asparagus with some of the best I've ever tasted. And the mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. I honestly can't rave enough about how much I loved my meal! Do we need a reservation before coming in? You see, I'm planning to go after proposing and just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Thank you so much!
I just called (12/19/20 @ 3:34pm) and they do not take reservations, they're taking walk ups. Some days/nights menu may be limited for certain things but for the most part, full menu. Didn't get into the specifics of the menu.
Are they currently seating larger groups? We are a group of 9, and I want to know if we will be able to get a table.
They are not taking anything larger then party of 6. They are also taking your temperature upon arrival and masks required when not seated. The food is so good, maybe you can get two tables one for kids if there are any and adults seated at another?…
Going for a birthday party and I'm vegan....Am I going to be able to eat anything other than french fries?
Your fries will likely be fried in same oil as shrimp and fish. It is a really nice venue and sundown rocks. I would stick to the salads.
Do they accept reservations?
They do not. We always try to go as early as possible to minimize the wait time but you can always grab a drink and sit on the dock!
Does Caps have vegetarian options?
Yes they do have items and are very accommodating at tweaking their menu to suit your needs
