We had five of us for dinner. We had the stuffed flounder plate, stuffed jumbo shrimp plate, a 12 piece shrimp platter, a fried catfish plate and a captains platter. Everything was excellent minus the flounder. The flounder was burnt completely including the stuffing. Which is a shame because I love flounder. The outdoor seating is nice in an enclosed plastic windows surrounding the space. The waitress was very friendly and took the orders quickly but seemed to get lost when it comes to drink refills. I believe it is a nice restaurant but you may want to watch out for anything not fried. read more

My wife and I went for dinner and the oysters were about as small as you could serve. There was a man that came in that was using profoundly language and cussing at another woman. I ask the manager to take care of the problem with him or I was going to cancel the order but she responded with telling me he comes here a lot and he is waiting on his to go order and she did nothing about the situation. Very poor management due to I'm sure I spend a lot more money in that place than he does but will not be returning. The lady that served us was the best part of our dinner as she handled herself well in the uncomfortable situation. I would FIRE that manager immediately if this was my restaurant!!! Captain Benny's was a spot my family went to pre-divorce. After my parents divorced, we never returned here. My mom would always take us to Boudreaux's or Goode Co Seafood. Same with our dad if he took us for seafood. It's changed a bit over 20 years - but not much. Which makes it home. They may not have an expansive seafood menu - but the basics: oysters, shrimp, catfish, flounder. I can't recall if they had crab on the menu. The service was okay. My friend and I got half a dozen oysters on the half shell baked a la Benny's for an app that was delicious. The price? Unbeatable. I got the fried shrimp - 12 - for 19.99. Update: I was here a year ago and like it so I had to stop back in again since we were in town. Things are still working well at Captain Benny's. Nice folks, unique place and just down right good seafood. I quickly ordered the Diablo Shrimp (shrimp and jalapeño wrapped in bacon). I attacked them so fast there was only one left before I thought of taking a picture. I did the fried combo basket with shrimp catfish which was light and flaky. Same thing... I forgot to take a photo earlier on. It comes with 4 shrimp and 2 chicks on catfish. My wife did the shrimp kabobs (broiled) and with coleslaw liked them very much. If you're in Houston try Captain Benny's. I know there are numerous locations but I have only visited the boathouse on Main Street but I'm sure they are all good. read more

So during Rodeo '22 on an early Saturday afternoon, we ventured to a wonderful wonderland of food. Baked oysters and calamari to start off, great palate introduction! Our server, Renee, felt like an old friend; so welcoming and sweet, always making sure we were not missing anything. We started with delectable baked oysters and yummy calamari, a couple of Modelo Micheladas and we were off to a grand gastrointestinal journey. For entrees there was gumbo, étouffée and a packed shrimp poboy. All these were very flavorful and satisfying. A small and almost insignificant knee t pick were the fries. First time here. It was literally just O K. The shrimp was smaller than I expected and the fish also for the price. Too much batter. It's more batter than the fish itself. Atmosphere: Kind of muggy. At least it was clean from what I could tell. Felt more like a place for great grandparents but not mine cause I wouldn't bring them to any of their locations. Small on the inside as well. Waitress was really nice. They don't let you substitute which is crazy. They would only do it if the GM approved it. Inside and patio seating, along with bar seating. Small area place. It's shaped like a boat, so that's kinda cute if that's your thing. Oh and they have beer and wine if you were curious. I ordered the Mate's Plate Your choice of two: I went with catfish, shrimp. Served with french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and garlic toast. I mean you can't beat the price. Well, I guess you get what you pay for. The only thing I was happy about was the fried shrimp. Everything else didn't taste well in my opinion. I didn't even love the fries. For an appetizer I ordered the Shrimp Diablos a Shrimp & jalapeno wrapped in bacon.Stuffed with crab & shrimp stuffing. I couldn't even down one. The service was GREAT! The floors were dirty. I probably won't go again, unless for their deal on raw oysters. They must be doing something right though because that place has been there for as long as I can remember. This is pretty much the our go to Ouster place. Yes the decor is very simple and maybe a bit old. It didn't look really fancy inside but they sure have good oysters and food. If you come at busy day/night, the service would be very very slow but most staffs there still always do their best to provide good service. The skrimps are fried perfectly in a cornmeal batter. I love these things and get it every time I come here either in platter or poboy format. Either way your taste buds win and your waistline loses. But it is worth every calorie. The hushpuppies. I order a few dozen extra every time. This place simply has the best. That is all. The piroges were interesting!! Little micro skrimps stuffed rice filling, slathered with cheese, all stuffed into a soft bun. How the hell can you go wrong with this? Short answer. You can't. The in house made cocktail and tartar sauces are nothing short of delicious. Finally. The staff. Guy and Tuna always provide an awesome conversation and make us feel welcome every time. Have to update my review and lower my rating by a star because of my recent experience here. First, I did come during Rodeo season, so the restaurant was more packed than usual. That being said, the service was pretty poor - I asked for a water when my food arrived and didn't actually get it until I was finished with my meal. The quality of the food was also not amazing. I got the fried scallops and they definitely didn't wow me. Overall, I don't think I'll come back here. There are many other tasty seafood restaurants in Houston that I'd like to try instead! read more

July 31 2023 Food is fantastic. Service from the waitress was the worst we ever received. We ordered drinks and never got them. The food was ready but she didn't pick it up and deliver to the table until it was cold. She didn't give us what we ordered. The bartender was trying to make up for her lack of service. I heard her telling every table "Sorry" for not taking care of them as she should have. The thing is the place wasn't even busy!!!! It was pretty crowded so we sat at the bar. There were tables available but not cleaned off yet? Not sure why. We came here before the Rodeo & had boudain, gumbo & nice cold beers. Pass here all the time. But never tried it!! Place is built like a boat which in my mind was kinda cheesy. So I instantly thought the food would taste like red lobster. (Frozen) I only had oysters and jalapeño boudin. Can you say delicious? The oysters were a good size and the boudin was flavorful. Not just spicy with no flavor. The service was great. When first walking up I saw the oyster shells on the floor outside which was pretty cool. Upon walking in was greeted and than proceeded to find a table to sit. The server came sometime later and asked about drinks and than talked about menu. We ordered Shrimp poboy, chicken tender basket, and combo platter. appetizer was fried alligator. Food was good. Everything had its own unique taste which was good. Service was friendly and checked on us from time to time. I would recommend to family and Friends. Who doesn't love lunch on a boat? Stopped in for lunch on a lazy Friday afternoon around 1 pm. We sat in the front of the boat by the bar and was immediately greeted by a lovely waittress. I wanted to try everything but had to control myself. I ordered the shrimp basket which came with 8 shrimps, fries, 2 hush puppies and garlic bread and a lemonade. The food came out promptly and it was good. The batter wasn't too thick and had good seasoning. Delish. Our waittress was awesome. Very attentive and friendly AND I loved the fact that she got involved when we started picking on one of our co-workers. She called him No Work the rest of our meal. LOVED IT! I wanna go back to try the catfish (Jesse said it was yum) and they actually cook a whole catfish if you want. It looked interestingly good lol. I also wanna try the gumbo, spicy boudain, and the oysters. Ok, I'm getting myself hungry already.... Definitely two thumbs up...if I had a third thumb that would be up too! read more

We were staying in the area and found them...in business over 60 years. I had fresh cod and stuffed shrimp and my wife had gumbo and shrimp wrapped in bacon and jalapeño. The waitress had a good rundown of everything on the menu and everything was great. It appears to be a great local place to eat. Portions were large, the fried food was obviously done in fresh oil. I used to love coming here for some good fresh fish. However, if you plan on reducing the amount of food and charging the same/more please let me know. Also, when the issue is brought up don't blame the wording on the menu. Ridiculously over priced for one piece of fish that I was served that was cut into two pieces saying that it was two pieces of fish. This place will no longer get my business anymore. read more

This was not a researched or planned stop. I did not have high expectations when we pulled in to the parking lot. Once we walked in the door I realized this may be a good spot, there were a lot of patrons and the place was lively and friendly. The service was great. The seafood gumbo was excellent. The broiled red fish was excellent, it was very small and especially considering the price. It was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked, bdidn't get my fill. They should rethink the price or amount of fish at $26. Coleslaw was excellent, I could have eaten a little more. The rice was okay, didn't eat a lot of it. Beer choices were good. We may go back for lunch tomorrow. read more
