    Build Your Own Sandwich!
    Melodi D.

So pleasantly surprised with Brown Bag Deli! I don't always expect much from sandwich places because--really, how much can you do with a sandwich? But Brown Bag Deli really provided everything I could ask for in a straightforward sandwich. When ordering, you can choose one of their sandwiches on the menu, or you can create your own using one of the clipboards near the front of the store. I chose the create my own. I also made it a combo, meaning I got a drink and a side. The sandwich was so delicious! The ingredients tasted fresh and high-quality. They were also very generous with the portions of each ingredient. My side, the potato salad, was also super yummy. It was dense and a decently sized portion. Overall, I totally recommend Brown Bag Deli! It's the perfect spot for a quick lunch. Would also make great food for a picnic!

I just discovered this place two days ago and the service was polite and welcoming. They served me one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I ordered the turkey sandwich on a toasted multigrain bread with onions, mayonnaise, honey, mustard ,avocado ,and tomatoes. It was fresh. It was filling and it literally hit the spot for me. My daughter ordered their black bean sandwich which is something she gets on a regular and she loves it. I only wish they had one of these locations out in the Richmond or Sugarland area because I am a fan. My only complaint is that we ordered two combos and when we got to the house ,one of the bags of baked chips was MIA. That's the only reason I didn't give them five stars.

How have I lived in Houston all this time and never been to Brown bag deli?! We went in on Presidents' Day for something late, and it was absolutely packed. It's obvious that people that work in this area come here for lunch regularly. To order, you get a brown bag and a marker and write your order out. Then you take it to the counter and pick out chips, drink, etc. The wrap I got was full of delicious fresh meat and veggies, but it was still so light. This is somewhere that I will absolutely revisit, and try something else too. I am always looking for a good wrap!

Stopped in for lunch after being curious for awhile now. Upon entering it just seems like a quiet cafe. You fill out a bag with your options then bring it to the front to check out. They were friendly and made sure ahead of time that I properly filled it out. They even made sure to say my name and wish me a happy new year. The strawberry lemonade had the perfect amount of sweetness. I tried the jalapeño cheddar bun with buffalo chicken. Neither of those were the spicy part. They use fresh jalapeños. Just figured I should warn ya. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the side portion along with the distribution of the veggies on my sandwich. The potato salad was tasty.

I loovvee brown bag deli! They recently closed the Rice village location which is much closer to me which made me sad! But this location is just 2 miles down the road. It's newly renovated and they have a daily specials menu up on the wall. To order you walk in and fill out the brown bag on the clipboard then you make your choices. Anyway I ordered one of the specials the fiesty falafel. Omg it was absolute perfection! I also got it toasted with a side of potato salad and I mixed unsweet tea and lemonade! If you haven't been here before, get here! They are always consistently good!

Very good and filling. A lot of selections to choose from. Pricing is not transparent. But the menu is clear on what is considered an additional cost. The restaurant is very cute with quite a bit of seating available and ample parking.

I finally came to the newly built BBD on westheimer near S Shepherd and let me tell you this location disappointed me greatly! I've been here when it was the run down hole in the wall location and back then I never had any issues. The issue wasn't the service, but how my sandwich or what was in my sandwich per say. Most BBDs are know for its massive portion of meat and thin sliced bread along with whatever fixings you choose. But today I had 1 inch thick white bread and a ton of lettuce and the meat was barely visible. Needless to say yes this bummed me out cuz there's TONS of nice restaurants, bars, etc in a 2 block radius, but I chose this cuz I know how they make their sandwiches And yes it's a sandwich! Paying $15 for a sandwich is already ridiculous but we choose to pay it cuz how it normally comes. Sometimes I even order double meat just to see the mountain of meat they gonna put in my sandwich, but I didn't today and it felt like I really got the short end for sure Every bite was bread and lettuce and not gonna lie it was hard to eat. I didn't wanna bitch about it cuz they were busy and everyone knows , you don't bitch about food as long as it's not extremely terrible cuz I didn't want them to give me a new sandwich with " extra sauces " Oh well, the Rice Village location is my go to and I should've just went there.

We stopped in here for lunch and it was delicious! Both of us had turkey sandwiches on rye and multigrain. Though they did accidentally switch the bread on our sandwiches, they were still tasty. I was surprised how much meat comes on the sandwich. The place is clean and the staff is kind. I will definitely be back for another sandwich and I will have to try the cookies

First time here and I'm extremely impressed! I ordered a falafel salad with feta, lettuce, tomato and cucumbers with olive oil. I added a fruit cup, which was fresh and delicious. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. I'll be back again!! So glad my husband recommended this place.

Spinach wrap with roast beef, american cheese, lettuce, and tomato

Food: build your own wrap Spinach wrap, roast beef, american cheese, lettuce, tomato A thick wrap!! A generous portion of roast beef, yet not overwhelming. The wrap was not soggy too. It was nice and filling without being heavy and the roast beef was seasoned well but not too salty. It was catered, and came with choice of chips and cookie. Highly recommend for catering for events!

My new fave Montrose sandwich shop! Okay it's not new, but it has gotten a total refresh due to a building remodel. I love all of the sandwich options, but I'm currently crushing on one of the signature specialties call 'The Boss's Wife.' Wifey knows what's up! This wrap has shaved buffalo chicken, feta, lettuce, tomato, pickles, cucumber and avocado. I add Sriracha ranch for extra kick. Order online for easy pickup, but it's pleasant to dine in bc it's so bright and clean, and the music is frigging awesome - Stone Roses, Cure, Siouxsie, INXS all playing mellowly during this visit! Staff is super friendly. You could grab a cookie next door but honestly the chocolate chip cookies here are probably just as good. I only wish they were open later for my evening Brown Bag cravings!

Wow! Just... wow…read more Loved this place from the moment I walked in! Ambiance was super fun and welcoming. The tubs of ice filled with cold drinks all around as you approach the counter was casual and fun. And the staff was welcoming and friendly. The menu had so much variety, without being overwhelming. Anything from a good pazole, to a brisket Rueben, to an American Italian sandwich! I got the báhn mì sandwich, which was bursting with flavor! The pork was seasoned well and had good flavor from the marinade. The cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeno, all were so fresh and vibrant! And I was able to get homemade chips and fresh strawberries as my side - such a refreshing bite the strawberries after a rich, porky, spicy bite from the sandwich. Can't say enough good! Loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat!

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.

Brad, my nephew, who is not a foodie, wanted to pick a restaurant that was reasonably close to all of us. He decided on Hungry's in the village. I said fine only because I wanted to take Melvin out and food was not the important criteria. Ok, about the restaurant. In a word, the food was in the pedestrian class of places that I would have picked. Looking at the menu beforehand I looked for something that the restaurant couldn't screw up. My three choices were Meatloaf with mash potatoes and green beans, Chicken Fried Steak with mash potatoes and green beans, and Chicken Pot Pie with yes you guessed it. Melvin went for the meatloaf, Brad chose a meat and chicken kabob that I hope was better than it looked, and my wife, a.k.a.,Love Muffin chose the trout that was smothered with Pineapple salsa and other stuff Personally, I don't like food that is smothered in anything. The food, as I expected, was mediocre. The waitstaff were very friendly, polite, and came right away after noticing all our waving hands that were visible over a lot of empty tables. The only redeeming quality was that for the four of us the bill was $155.00 including wine. As they say, you get what you pay for. It's not fine dining but if you have a large family and a budget, you can't go wrong with Hungry's for dinner.
