So pleasantly surprised with Brown Bag Deli! I don't always expect much from sandwich places because--really, how much can you do with a sandwich? But Brown Bag Deli really provided everything I could ask for in a straightforward sandwich. When ordering, you can choose one of their sandwiches on the menu, or you can create your own using one of the clipboards near the front of the store. I chose the create my own. I also made it a combo, meaning I got a drink and a side. The sandwich was so delicious! The ingredients tasted fresh and high-quality. I just discovered this place two days ago and the service was polite and welcoming. They served me one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I ordered the turkey sandwich on a toasted multigrain bread with onions, mayonnaise, honey, mustard ,avocado ,and tomatoes. It was fresh. It was filling and it literally hit the spot for me. My daughter ordered their black bean sandwich which is something she gets on a regular and she loves it. I only wish they had one of these locations out in the Richmond or Sugarland area because I am a fan. It's obvious that people that work in this area come here for lunch regularly. To order, you get a brown bag and a marker and write your order out. Stopped in for lunch after being curious for awhile now. Upon entering it just seems like a quiet cafe. You fill out a bag with your options then bring it to the front to check out. They were friendly and made sure ahead of time that I properly filled it out. They even made sure to say my name and wish me a happy new year. I finally came to the newly built BBD on westheimer near S Shepherd and let me tell you this location disappointed me greatly! I've been here when it was the run down hole in the wall location and back then I never had any issues. The issue wasn't the service, but how my sandwich or what was in my sandwich per say. Most BBDs are know for its massive portion of meat and thin sliced bread along with whatever fixings you choose. But today I had 1 inch thick white bread and a ton of lettuce and the meat was barely visible. Needless to say yes this bummed me out cuz there's TONS of nice restaurants, bars, etc in a 2 block radius, but I chose this cuz I know how they make their sandwiches And yes it's a sandwich! Paying $15 for a sandwich is already ridiculous but we choose to pay it cuz how it normally comes. Sometimes I even order double meat just to see the mountain of meat they gonna put in my sandwich, but I didn't today and it felt like I really got the short end for sure Every bite was bread and lettuce and not gonna lie it was hard to eat. If you're begging someone to fix your eyebrows, go to the "Brow Beg Deli." Brown Bag feels like a chain, although there are only 4 locations in Houston and supposedly, they're not connected to the other places known as Brown Bag around the country. In Dallas, Columbus, New Mexico, I've seen them everywhere. I'm confused as to whether these guys are a franchise of those, or what. Anyway, the food here is pretty basic and bland, nothing to write home about. The cookies are pretty good though. Overpriced, underwhelming, move along Houston. Very, very limited parking although it's to be expected in the area. The second you walk in it's a disappointment. The place is in great need of a face lift. And it's got a very strange meaty (not in a good way) mixed with disinfectants smell that pretty much rules out eating there. Much like a which wich, you take a bag and circle a few things picking your toppings and your bread. I got a combo and was charged a whopping $13 for a sandwich, side and drink only to realize afterwards that *surprise* they'd forgotten the side. They do pile on a lot of meat on the sandwiches, but it doesn't add to the taste of them at all. The only positive was that the white bread was buttery. There are plenty of significantly more delightful sandwich shops; Jersey Mike's, Jimmy John's, and I'd venture to even say Subway is at least slightly better than this place. read more

Cute place, relatively speaking. Im not from Houston, but everyone raved about this place so I decided to give it a try. Turns out it's just like a hospital cafeteria. I shouldn't be surprised though, considering this is the Land of Luby's and Golden Corral. It reminded me of taking my grandmother to lunch and feeling confused because she thought black pepper was "spicy". To sum it up, I just felt confused the whole time. This place just "is what it is." It markets "standard" very well. In their defense, this is a design-your-own-sandwich kind of place. So part of the blame on taste could logically come from my inability to "design" a sandwich, I suppose. Don't come here expecting "fancy" sandwiches with specialty mayos, arugula, etc. This isn't Local Foods (I also love Local) but it's a great place to get a fresh deli sandwich. My go to is Jalapeño Cheddar bread with turkey or pecan tuna. I don't think I can write a review without mentioning their Chocolate Chip Cookies. My only negative is pricing. It's set up pretty similar to which which where you write what you want on a brown bag. These bad boys are THICC. The food is definitely quality so maybe it's worth the price but definitely not somewhere to go if you are balling on a budget. Seating inside is not great either. The booths really need to be redone. This sounds like mostly negatives but overall the sandwiches were really good and super filling. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
