This is probably the first seafood boil I ever had that I did not like. First thing I noticed when I got it was, where is the sauce? Every seafood boil I've ever had always had a good amount of sauce. Tried the sauce and it seemed flavorless. I asked the waiter if he could bring more sauce and lemons to see if that would help, and the side of sauce he brought was mainly oil with no flavor and lots of sugar??? Very confused and I got the lemon pepper medium sauce. I did not taste any savory flavor. My friends seemed to really like the food but I didn't understand. After eating, I felt nauseous and later had diarrhea that night. Service was pretty good, they gave us hair ties. However they missed 3 items from our order and our garlic noodles never came. I came here for lunch with my friends a couple weeks ago because I saw this crawfish place was a newer spot with good reviews. We got seated immediately as we walked in. I like that they provide a paper "bowl" with wet wipes, disposable gloves and bibs for you without you having to ask for anything. We did one of their combos and got crawfish, shrimp and clams - spicy level. We also ordered their Cajun fries and garlic noodles. The Cajun fries were so good. There was so much flavor packed into the fries, I couldn't stop eating it throughout the whole meal. The garlic noodles were different from what I'm used to at other seafood boil places, but ir wasn't bad at all! They use a different pasta noodle here, so the garlic noodles ended up tasting like... juicer? It that makes sense haha. Not as dry or cheesy as other places. So, we did 1.5 lb shrimp, 1 lb king crab and 0.5 lb mussel as well as the cajun fries and 3 boiled eggs. For the sauce we did the Cap't Loui medium. Individually, each type of seafood comes at a market price that is listed up on the wall, and the restaurant is decked out with things for the customer experience. Whether its a whole variety of hand lotions or the bandaids if you cut yourself. However, for me the seafood didn't live up to the same standards. The shrimp were great and cooked well, but the mussels were a little overcooked, and the king crab was quite mid. They were clearly frozen for a long time as the texture had degraded and they were pretty fishy as well. Especially for the price, it should be better quality. Came here on an empty stomach with 2 other friends and we left full and satisfied! (8/10) 3 lbs of seafood boil with their house cajun sauce * 1.5lbs snow crab * .5lbs head off shrimp * .5lbs clam * .5lbs mussel The pick 3lbs also includes 2 sides. We got the garlic bread and the sausage was added to the boil. The boil also includes corn and potatoes already. The crab was fresh enough where the meat can be pulled apart relatively easily. You definitely still need to dip the crab in the actual sauce though for it to be flavorful. There was easily enough food for all three of us. Personally I've had better seasoning but it was still good. My friend can't eat spicy so we got mild but said the sausage was still spicy, likely because it was really the only thing that absorbs the spice fully. The menu doesn't have the price of the actual seafood items, they are on the wall. We didn't realize it at first and were originally was going to get the king crab but it was like $78 for a single pound, so we chose to just do snow crab instead. It was roughly $47 a person after tax and tip. The interior is clean and modern. Service is great, they offered a hair tie for those with long hair and then free popsicles at the end. I went to Cap't Louie for the raving reviews and menu offerings, especially when they give you free sides for every pound of seafood. They also offer potatoes, corn, and sausage in every bag. The places I've been always charged extra for these things, which is what honestly made me choose this place over others. I got the Cap't Louie flavor with medium spiciness, and ordered a shrimp, clam, and half pound of mussel/crawfish. If you order 2 half pounds, it still qualifies for a free side. Their signature mix lacked a lot of the spices and flavor I'm familiar with at other restaurants...aside from spice and salt, there wasn't much else to the taste. I was also disappointed with the amount of sauce in the metal bowl; usually I get a ton of sauce in which I can take home and make noodles with the following day. I can see how it's more "authentic" than seafood in a bag though. The quality of the seafood seemed pretty good; I enjoyed the texture of the shrimp and clams. They only had frozen crawfish when we went, so that was a little disappointing. The sides of garlic noodle and fries were decent, but the fries basically had cap't louie seasoning on top, so they weren't as flavorful. Garlic noodles were pretty good, but the lack of taste in the seasoning Every menu picture you see on Yelp has their prices as "market price" per pound, especially when some are frozen. Honestly, Cap't Loui has been my all-time favorite seafood boil since 2020 in Boston, and I felt fortunate to have a location near the Bay. I've visited this location multiple times, and the food has always tasted the same as the one in Boston, but this visit was very disappointing. First, I'm really upset that they changed their French fries to a thicker cut. They don't retain much flavor, are too potato-y, and lack the crispiness I enjoyed. I still love the Cajun seasoning, but I don't think I'll be ordering the fries again. Secondly, the Cap't Loui sauce was overly sweet this time. I have always loved their sauce for its great balance of garlicky, spicy flavors, but this time the sweetness was overpowering, and I could distinctly taste the sugar. While their seafood is usually very fresh, my recent batch was not. It had a somewhat fishy smell, and the shrimp were a bit mushy. I crave seafood boil at least once a month. So I am a BIG FAN of seafood boil restaurants such as Boiling Crab, Cajun Crack'n, Kickin' Crab and the list goes on. As much as I really wanted to like Cap't Loui, sadly I didn't. I ordered 1lb of shrimp, 1 lb of clam ($5 more if you want fresh clams), and 1/2 lb of calamari, with a cap't loui sauce, and medium spicy. Sadly it lacks flavor so much and the sauce looks very watered down. It almost seems like all I can taste is garlic and not spicy at all. I'm not sure if they forgot that I ordered medium spicy but there's not even a kick whatsoever. The Garlic Noodles were honestly good, might be the best one compared to the other Cajun restaurants I have been to. The employees are nice, they warmly greet you as you come in and the service was awesome. The bathroom is very well kept and they offer mouthwash which is great! Bias: we got this to go and I was just there to eat it. I did not have much choices as my family wanted to pick. The garlic bread was just Texas toast you get at the grocery. They coulda bought fancier garlic bread if they were gonna charge me that much for 3 pieces. The lemonade was just syrup. Had to water it down constantly. Basically needed a splash of the syrup and had to dilute that with water to balance out the sugar bomb. Lesson learned. Dont listen to these food influencers. They be lying for free food and we get stuck with paying for mediocre food you can make better at home. Save your money and go to Clawshack off Barryessa. At least they know how to make a seafood boil. No hate to the servers as they were just doing their best. The review is just for the food. read more
