    Salmon Aburi

I go here quite often, I love love love Goshi. I really love the vibe that they have in there, I love how we get to take off her shoes and be immersed into Japanese culture. The staff is aclways really nice and attentive. like for example- they were always checking in if we needed more tea :3 I love their food here too, they're tasty small plates. I think their Salmon Aburi is so yummy, the end too you can make the leftover crispy rice into a soup too.

We'd been here years ago and decided to come back with another couple (4 of us) and had a reservation for 6pm. We were seated quickly in one of those tatami type tables, though not in private room. It wasn't too loud despite it being quite full. In addition to what's pictured, we ordered some sashimi, carpaccio, and some tempura. Everything was tasty, with my favorites being the blue fin tuna sashimi, hamachi carpaccio, and pork clay pot rice. The fish was very fresh and while the ahi sashimi let the fish speak for itself (it was great), the carpaccio was nicely seasoned. The black cod was also very good, but there just wasn't a lot of it. The pizza and udon noodles were the dishes that were just OK, relatively speaking. Those I probably wouldn't order again, not because they were bad or didn't taste good, but there are other things I'd like to try that are probably more special and to my taste. The service was attentive and the food came pretty quickly. The only less than ideal thing was you're limited to only 90 minutes at your table. So if you're wanting to leisurely order some things, see how full you are or how much you like the item, then order some more in more than a couple of rounds. . .or if you want to really catch up with friends you haven't seen for awhile. . .then this isn't ideal if you can't do that within the 90 minute timeframe. Because they will tell you your time is up and you have to leave, which can seem abrupt. The clue should have been when they said "last call for ordering" and it was just a little past 7pm when they wouldn't have been closing, but I didn't clue into it. I really don't know if this is spelled out clearly when you make a reservation or check in for your reservation, but if not, I'd suggest it be communicated just to avoid the feeling that you're being unexpectedly asked to leave. But the food is delicious and creative, so we'd come back again.

We made a reservation for dinner for 4 on Friday and were promptly seated at one of the tatami tables when we arrived at 6pm. (Good that I was wearing slip on shoes.) They had a pretty extensive online menu and some specials on a printed menu. We started with the hamachi carpaccio and bluefin fatty tuna sashimi. Both were high quality, fresh and delicious. The black cod with plum sauce was well executed and tasty. The unagi yanagawa pizza had quite a unique taste and texture. It's been many years since I had a Japanese style pizza at Gochi. It made me feel nostalgic for the days bringing my daughter here when she was little. The clay pot rice with bbq sliced pork was scrumptious with good meat to rice ratio. I loved the crispy rice at the bottom. It would have been perfect if it wasn't so oily. The yaki udon was ok, but a bit oily as well. The tempura lotus roots sandwiched with shrimp had a light batter and was not bad with the sauce. Service was attentive, but a bit rushy. They're pretty strict with their 90-min seating rule. Even though they had another 4-top available and there wasn't anyone waiting at the door, they still asked us to leave at 7:30pm because someone made a reservation. Overall, it was still an enjoyable meal with a variety of yummy dishes and good company.

A Bay Area institution for creative and authentic Japanese food, been around for years and for good reason! Come hungry and/or with lots of people because they have an extensive and varied menu and you'll want to get everything. Be sure to make a reservation because the demand is high and you'll have to wait in a long line for walk ins. Love the classic Japanese design and seating on the ground (shoes off). Their variety of Gochi Pizzas are one of a kind and a must order!

This place is always crowded, especially during the weekend. We came early during the week night and there was no wait! Service is great. They have plenty of waiters/waitresses working. Once we ordered, the food came out fast. Out of all the dishes we ordered, the Hamachi Carpaccio, Asari Sakamushi, Yaki Onigiri, Unagi Pizza and the Grilled Duck Breasts dishes are delicious and stand out. The fried oysters is so-so since the crust is too thick and not light enough. The sea bass special isn't as good as other places as they pan-fried the outside first rather than directly grilling it. The coating is so much that we couldn't taste the fish. IMHO, Tanto's fried oysters and fish (black cod) dishes are better. They have an extensive menu and will come back to try other dishes.

Every dish is good at Gochi. Particular standout items are their meshis / clay pot rices (with the chazuke) and seasonal carpaccios. I recommend a reservation, especially for weekends; they always seem busy. I arrived at 5:30pm Sunday on a walk-by whim and there was already a walk-in line! We got seated but only had the table until 6:15pm. Walk-in for party of 2 seems easier than getting a whole table.

My husband and I visited the mountain view location a few years back and recently we celebrated a birthday at this location. Our large party made a reservation beforehand and were seated inside one of their rooms. We had to place orders before arriving and the food were ready shortly after we sat down. The host seemed very irritable but the rest of the staff was friendly. My husband and I got the hotate uni, agedashi tofu, and salmon chazuke. All dishes were tasty and my husband said the tofu here is in his top two favorites. The chazuke was perfect comfort food especially with the wasabi. The hotate was delicious but thin so it felt like very little for the price. Overall, they were all delicious but a bit pricey for the amount given. We had a cake we brought it and the restaurant held it for us. We had to provide our own plates and forks.

FOOD: 5 SERVICE: 4 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 5 I have been to Gochi many times, but I just found that I have never reviewed them. So here goes: Tako Capaccio - thinly sliced pieces of tender Tako (octopus), interlaced with sliced cucumber served with a plum vinaigrette and drizzled with garlic oil. A most refreshing appetizer, crunchy in the mouth with just the right tanginess. Hotate Uni - seared scallops topped with Uni and drizzled with a yuzu-truffle oil. Perfectly seared Scallops and buttery soft Uni, touched with a hint of yuzu and truffle oil. Melt in your mouth rounds of deliciousness. Maitaki Tenpura - if you like mushrooms and tempura, then this is the crispy, juicy combination you need to try. Comes with dipping sauce, grated radish and a dab of ginger. Kani Tama - this was the one disappointing dish. Not that it didn't taste savory, but for its lack of crab pieces. In fact, it would be more accurate to call this mushroom omelette. Kurobuta Katsu - pork cutlet pounded thin and then deep fried. Crispy and not dry, we preferred the traditional katsu dipping sauce. Hiyashi Somen - Japanese vermicelli noodles served cold with dashi sauce. Refreshing. Lychee Granuta - lychee shaved ice, a mist refreshing ending to a very good dinner. Service was consistent and very reactive, unlike other times we've been here. The empties were cleared from the table almost instantly. It has been a while since we've been here, but based on tonight's experience, we will be back more often. Oh, in case of our recent $90+ experience at a sushi boat self serve restaurant, Gochi is now quite a bargain!!

I ordered takeout from Gochi in Cupertino, and while the food was okay, I think the overall experience would've been much better if I had dined in. The interior looked really nice -- calm, classy, and perfect for a relaxed sit-down meal. The cashier recommended the fried beef tongue, which I tried, but it was a bit dry for my taste. Not terrible, just not something I'd reorder. I also got the chicken karaage, which was really crispy and super filling. Overall, the food didn't blow me away, but it might be worth trying again in person. I feel like the ambiance and plating probably add a lot to the full experience.

We decided to go to Gochi on a Friday night and got a reservation for 6 PM the same day! Once we arrived there was a lot of parking however there was a line. Fortunately, we had the reservation so we just went inside and we got seated immediately. The vibe of the restaurant is not too loud easy to have a conversation. The service was so quick and they asked if we had any dietary restrictions or allergies. I've noticed once they ask if there is any allergies, they tend to be a pretty good restaurant. All of the food tasted amazing but the clay pot rice is a little bit on the fatty side. Hamachi carpaccio was the star of the show. I would definitely come here again if you want some great Japanese food Tip: if you come with a party of three, you can sit on traditional tatami

Having grown up in the bay, Gochi was always my go-to spot to celebrate a special occasion. It's quaint and perfect for small, intimate dinners. I'll preface this by saying that the restaurant is almost always packed - by 5:30, it's not uncommon to see a few people waiting outside for doors to open to grab a table. If you choose to coke without a reservation (which I would HIGHLY recommend), come as early as you can or you will wait - or even be turned away. I've been to Gochi countless times, but the one thing I consider a "must order" is their claypot rice - specifically their unagi or anago meshi. I recommend to always go larger on this order: even with ordering 3 other tapas, my partner and I pretty comfortably finished a medium despite the menu stating it was good for 4 people. The rice is super flavorful with crispy flakes of rice contrasted with rich, fluffy eel... it honestly has my vote for the best claypot rice I've had to date. Get it with dashi to enjoy it the dish as chazuke, a perfect finisher for the meal.. and don't forget to try their rice seasoning on the table for ever more variety in flavors! Other cool things to try include their carpaccios, Japanese fusion pizzas, and their rotating specials! My go-tos include the kani cream korokke, hamachi carpaccio, and hokkai pizza, but everything tastes good. Just watch out for your budget, because these small tapas add up quick if you're not careful! Now that my parents are moving out of San Jose, I don't think I'll have many opportunities to be back - but I do know I'll stop by for their meshi whenever I do get the chance. Thanks for all the great meals Gochi!

You can never go wrong here. I came for a lunch birthday. The service is always polite and nice. Food is delicious and the tatami seating is a fun experience. I love coming here. They are the best Japanese fusion restaurant in the bay.

My partner and I were really missing Japan, so we chose to eat at gochi for dinner. This restaurant is one of the most "Japan" vibes place I know, so excitedly we arrived. Even at 7:00 on a Wednesday night the whole restaurant was filled so I am glad we had a reservation. We ended up getting Salmon Aburi, Mentai Kinoko Pizza and Unagi Meshi. All of these items were delicious and definitely more than enough for the two of us. Service was a bit slow, but it was a pretty chaotic night and the food was delicious.

12:00 is not available for reservation. Only 11:30. And the rule says the whole party has to show up within 10min. But our plan is to have lunch at 12:00. Would we be able to…

Once my friend was running late, and they did not let me sit at my table until my friend showed up. Luckily she did show up a couple of minutes after the 10 mins mark. Not sure if it's way past the 10 mins mark though. They get super crowded usually.

    Do you have outdoor seating?

They no longer have out door seating since Covid lifted.

Do you still have time limit for ordering & finshing eating?

Yes, they close at 8:00pm so that LO is 7:30pm or so. but they serve great meals, I love Gochi in both Mt. View and Cupertino.

Is it smelly inside the restaurant? Do guests cook at the table? I was going to dress to the nines for lunch with my girlfriends. But thought maybe my hair and clothes will end up being too smelly.

No it is not smelly. Guest don't cook at table.

By the visuals alone outside and inside the restaurant, we knew it's going to be such a wonderful experience for us. There seems to be quite a few changes. The menu now leans very tapas heavy. There were a lot of options that was quite overwhelming. The menu itself wasn't very descriptive either, we had to ask our servers to explain several dishes. For starters: Mushroom Risotto: (0/5) bland, like REALLY bland to the point were I second guess if they forgot to seasoned it. We flag it and the servers offered us to sent back to the kitchen and we'll pick something else from the menu. Catch of the day, Miso Black Cod: (2/5) Fish were pan seared on a bed of wild rice. Fish top was nice and crispy, but seems under seasoned. The miso was sweet and tangy, but lacked strong unami miso flavor. Wild Salmon Lemon Beurro Blanc: (3/5) This was the dish we opt to switch for the risotto as it was recommend twice by 2 different server. The salmon was questionably very white, (not sure if that's normal for wild salmon). The taste does have the butteriness of salmon but the texture was less soft and has more bounce to it which was nice and different. The salmon itself was also very under seasoned but the mashed potatoes that came with it was really good and saved this dish! Bone in Short Rib: (2/5) Short rib came pipping hot and looked very saucy and promising! It was served with broccolini that has a nice snap to them and some potatoes. The potatoes under were kinda cold. The short rib was again, under seasoned. If it came if a little bit more sauce, that maybe could have saved it. We asked for salt & pepper to seasoned all our dishes, the server came back 10 minutes later asked for it to give to another table since they only have one set for the entire restaurant. Other things to note: - Phone reception is bad, try to look at pictures of the dishes beforehand since it took us forever to load pictures on yelp and the menu weren't helpful. - Servers were nice & friendly but I can tell they were busy, there's multiple times we failed trying to flag them. - Food took quite a while to come out, around 20-30 minutes. It seems now that the focus has shifted more toward being a bar with small tapas and cocktails, rather than a food-centered experience. I wish I had read more recent reviews beforehand--it seems I'm not the only one who's noticed a decline in food quality. Sadly, I don't think I'll be coming back.

The churros were really good although we wish there was a non filled ones too and to have the optionof if we wanted it dressed up because churros are already super sweet with the cinnamonand sugar dusted but caramel and whip cream was added along with a strawberry filling. We also ordered a tres leches cake but we didn't like the tres leches cake, it was too sweet, so sweet that we couldn't taste the filling which we assume was pineapple lol the color was yellow with pieces of fruit but we couldn't taste it. Overall the service was great and quick. I would definitely come back here.

Plenty of parking available since the restaurant is in a strip mall. It wasn't too busy when we got there, but then it started picking up. There was only one server working and she was really hustling to meet everyone's needs. Plus, she was friendly. I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Both of the desserts were so good and a perfect touch of sweetness.

So delicious I'm still thinking about this meal. The service was amazing. There's a huge menu with…read morelots of great options. This has been one of my favorite bites in South Bay. We ordered the sake oyako mesh with dashi to have the option for ochazuke, kurobuta katsu, tori karaage, and hojicha creme brulee. The rice clay pot dish had so much flavor and dimension. The katsu and karaage were both very crispy and fried to perfection. And the hojicha creme brûlée was the perfect sweetness. I would love to come back to try more of their dishes.

This is very different from the cantonese clay pot rice which I am used to, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rice is just as umami and crispy, and the dish itself is sweet and savory and quite good. The addition of dashi broth and wasabi is a must here; it pairs so well with the flavors of the eel and rice. Chashu miso pizza - the "pizza dough" is a light and crisp pastry resembling tempura batter. On top of the light batter is lots of cheese, mushrooms, pork, and miso sauce. The miso flavor here is incredibly mild, while the cheese and mushroom are the heaviest flavors in my opinion. I'm quite impressed with this pizza especially when it comes to the dough/crust. I would recommend trying this out. For a weekend meal, I highly recommend booking a reservation. Tables fill up quick and from your time of reservation, you get 90 minutes to order, eat, and leave. The cost is on the higher end, and I wouldn't go often, but the food is good enough to warrant an occasional visit.
