    Smoked fish dip
    Sam B.

Best meal of our vacation, hands down! We started with the smoked fish dip. This fish dip is a bit more mayo-forward than others we've have but it was sure delicious and beautifully presented. All of us got some type of fresh fish. I tried the coconut encrusted hogfish in key lime butter. Whoa! So delicious, fresh, and not too heavy. The mashed potatoes were really good too! My wife also enjoyed her jalapeño encrusted grouper as well; the perfect blend of green, charred spicy notes without being overpowering. We loved the charred green beans, something we'd not had before. The menu here was refreshingly original and a fun take of fresh seafood. It's a cool spot and the service was good too.

Best meal during our weekend trip to the Upper/Middle Keys. Just what you hope for in a destination known for fresh seafood. Our server was prompt, attentive, and answered our questions well. We started with the fish dip. Great presentation and nice sized portion for sharing. I had one of the fresh catch-the grouper-prepared blackened with the key lime butter on the side. Excellent! Paired with a generous portion of fresh green beans. Wish I had another night to sample more of the items in the menu.

Parking was an issue when we first got there after the dinner rush. There was some parking in the rear but a few people parked in 2 spots...uhg. We wanted just a lite dinner so we split some fish tacos. They were ok in our opinion. The toppings kind of over rode getting to taste the fish. The lemonade alcoholic drink we got was good, my wife loved it. Seated ourselves. Waitress helped us with some questions we had on the menu. Food was hot and came pretty fast. Clean.

We ate at Captains Craig's today with 45 of our friends. Our service was amazing the food delicious and the price very reasonable. I had the fish and shrimp basket and my husband had the fish Special. It was all delicious,we capped it all off with a slice of meringue key lime pie. Definitely coming back!

We had a very good lunch here. And we never would have found this place except for Yelp. It's very nondescript, in the middle of a strip, and doesn't stand out as you're driving down the highway. It's located on the right side driving south and it's very close to the street. There are only a couple parallel parking spaces out front. Only afterwards, did we realize there's a parking lot behind the restaurant. There were several tables occupied inside and a family seated out on the patio. We chose our table and browsed the menu. Many of the fish dishes had mahi which is not my favorite fish. Luckily, I was able to upgrade my sandwich to yellowtail for $2 more (they also had triple tail for another upgrade). I got the Tavernier fish sandwich with grilled yellowtail. It came with lettuce and tomato on a Kaiser bun. There was a small cup of tartar sauce, too. For my side I had mashed potatoes. No skimping here. The fish was a nice sized portion and quite good. My husband had their shrimp po' boy sandwich. This turned out to have some huge fried shrimp, along with slaw, pico de gallo, and sauce -- on a hoagie roll. He said it was very good. After chatting during lunch with some local guys seated nearby, we had requested the check and I headed to the ladies room. On my return, I saw two tremendous slices of key lime pie on our table. Questioning my husband, I found out that the guys had gifted us the pie. They'd already left so I never even got to thank them!!! The pie was truly sky high as described. And one of the best pies I've had of this type. A moist graham cracker crust, a layer of real not too sweet key lime, and a deliciously tall layer of lightly browned meringue. OMG! So glad we stopped here. I'd come back just for the pie. And I'm looking forward to that pleasure, again.

As you are driving South on US1, Captain Craig's is on your right, (Gulf of MEXICO) side, in a strip center ... don't pass this place up! We discovered after parking that there is a large parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. The A/C is fully functional and there is outside seating as well. Our server gave us a friendly greeting and our menus. After taking our drink order we looked over the daily Lunch Specials offered. I chose the Shrimp Po'Boy sandwich, and my wife chose the Tavernier fish sandwich, with a $2 upcharge she changed from Mahi to Grilled Yellowtail. We both went with Mashed potatoes as our side dish. As we waited for our food, we had a nice conversation with a couple of locals who eat here frequently. One of the gentlemen was actually born in the old Cutler Bay area and moved down. Our meals arrived, piping hot and looking good! My Po'boy Shrimp sandwich had JUMBO sized shrimp with a light buffalo sauce and some inhouse made coleslaw which was perfect. Our mashed potatoes sides were velvety smooth, full of flavor and wonderful! My wife was glad she upgraded to the perfectly grilled Yellowtail. As we said goodbye to our neighboring tablemates, our server brought two slices of key lime pie with sky high meringue, gifted by the two gentlemen we had chatted with. What a wonderful surprise and gift of some of the best key lime pie I have ever had, (sorry Mom!), besting my mother's who was a native Conch. Great find! Great service! Great food! Great Lunch stop!

WOW!!! What a pleasant surprise! First time here and I'll admit I wasn't expecting anything grand or memorable. Boy was I wrong! Service was GREAT and they were slammed. Thank you Luz for your patience (we didn't know the menu) and your attentiveness to our party of 7. Drinks were great! Appetizers amazing! Dinner selections delicious! We had the shashito pepper, fish dip, shrimp bombs, and conch fritters. All were beyond excellent! For dinner we had shrimp tacos, triple tail jalapeño encrusted fish, the scallop and shrimp linguine, the chicken pasta and stone claw bisque! Every dish was super amazing! Ended with the key lime pie and hands down the best! We. Will. Be. Back!!!

I've been here 4 billion times thanks to my long time friend Tony. Every time I love it. I've had the fish sandwich many ways. Blackened, fried, and grilled. I love grilled the best. This time it was fried and it was still the best fish sandwich around. The fillets were thick, hot, and the fish was extremely fresh. The bread, cheese, sauce, and tomato are all in perfect proportion that make my mouth sing. The only thing that changes is the thickness of the fillets which show there are fresh. You always get plenty though so I'll never complain. Served with a side and a pickle on the side. It's amazing. I had never had their calamari but tried it today. Either I got lucky or out the second best calamari I've eaten worldwide. I've had it all over the world. Pt Judith calamari is my favorite because of the way it's served. But this is a close second. It is 100 percent the most tender calamari rings I've ever had. If you are scared of the tentacles, push them to the side (although they too are delicious). You won't be disappointed. Fresh catch of the day was grouper, hogfish, mahi, and snapper. The tea was delicious, although I asked for unsweet and I got sweet. I let them know and they apologized and sickly brought me another without sugar. When I left they gave me one to go. The ambiance is typical keys decor. It's very nice in there with beautiful examples of native species of fish prominently displayed. Very ocean/beachy. I love this place and even though I got sweet tea I refuse to drop to 4 stars as I love consistency. These guys always deliver!

    Key lime pie

We used ChatGTP to give us ideas for a trip to the Keys. I asked for local recommendations and it was spot on. Yellow Tail Captains style, grilled shrimp, soups and Key Lime Pie. A delicious meal!

Good food, low key atmosphere. Friendly service and overall positive lunch experience!

My salad was very bland. I think I just ordered the wrong thing though because other patrons seemed happy with their meals.

Lots of outdoor seating and plenty inside too. Pro tip- wear long pants and bring a light long sleeve top. I get eaten up by mosquitos every time. It's a fun, chill atmosphere. Food: only reason I took a star off is the price has gotten very expensive. 2 entrees, 1 app, 1 mocktail was about $150. The fish dip was sooo good!!!, but again, pricy at $20. I got the fried coconut shrimp basket which comes with a few hush puppies that are pretty large in size and french fries. The taste for all of it was very good. My husband got hog fish w/ rice and veg medley and it was good, he loved the rice, but again pricy at mid $40's. All in all, this is always a great place to come!

Like many longtime establishments, it's had its ups and downs over the years. When the owners of Ball & Chain took over, many patrons and employees were understandably concerned about what the future would hold. To their credit, the food has improved. Several menu changes have been a welcome addition, and overall the quality is better than it was. Unfortunately, those improvements have come with a dramatic increase in prices. While the food is good, it simply isn't good enough to justify what they're charging. Thirty-two dollars for three fairly average tacos is excessive. Nine dollars for a Michelob Ultra is hard to defend. Nearly every item on the menu has seen a significant price hike, and I worry that it's going to cost them the loyal local customers who have kept this place busy during the slow season for decades. The service and overall execution haven't kept pace with those higher prices. On my most recent visit, they were out of cream cheese and eggs--basic breakfast staples that customers reasonably expect to be available. When you're charging premium prices, running out of essential menu items only adds to the frustration. I haven't even touched on the service. While some of the staff have become personal friends over the years and are genuinely great people, the overall level of service has never consistently matched the prices being charged. I genuinely want Snappers to succeed because it's part of the fabric of the Keys. But there's a fine line between improving a restaurant and pricing out the very locals who helped make it successful. I hope ownership recognizes that before those regulars decide to spend their money--and their loyalty--elsewhere.
