This place was good but not great but weirdly seems to be one of the only few seafood restaurants in the area. My mom and I both got the "grilled" shrimp, which was definitely just sautéed in butter and the green beans which had no flavor. The shrimp was tasty but I was disappointed it wasn't grilled and used butter as their seasoning delivery system. I went in for my big meal of the day late Monday afternoon(12/29/25). It wasn't busy. The dining room was very nautical to the point of being kvetchy - wall spaces almost completely covered but still nice. Being a fish market too(show cased as you walk in), I was pleased there was no fishy aromatics when walking in. I heard such great things about this place I wanted to try it but I was on the disappointed side. Yes I was dining alone but it wasn't busy at all. I didn't get water. I shouldn't have to ask or at least be asked if I wanted some water. I started with the mix fried appetizer. The frog legs were really good and will order them again when I go back. I was pleasantly surprised with the squash being yellow squash rather than the dreaded zucchini, the left overs went great in my morning omelet. The calamari was plentiful but the over breaded batter it was disappointing. I prefer crispy & light batter on them. When the main entree(snow crab boil) came it was rather disappointing. Boils can range from mild to Spicy. There wasn't an option but did ask for spicy anyway. Everything was drenched in a old bay liquid that for some reason had very little flavor. The corn on the cob was not too bad & the red potatoes were large chucks of a larger potato. The recent boils I have had have the smaller red potatoes - That's neither here nor there. They were good. This shrimp for tender but but bland. The sausage seemed almost soggy and the snow crab was still ice cold not cool or room temp, ice cold. I would have asked to have it heated except I never saw the waitress again until she came with the box & the check which I had asked for 25 minutes earlier when she dropped of the meal. I also over heard they were out of gumbo and it wasn't even 5pm yet Wait!! looking on line they have early bird specials?? I might have gone for that as the dining area had filled up with many locals Nonetheless because it's still the holiday season, I gave her a really good tip and may go back to try to fish sandwich and get more frog legs but I wasn't impressed. By far the best spot for fresh seafood in DeLand. They cook the food to order and the early bird menu (2 - 4) is an incredible value. The cheese grits are SO good, the best I've found in Florida! Oh and the hushpuppies were a favorite at our table. read more

This was our 2nd time, i stopped in traveling back home with my small children tonight. My daughter wanted a crab boil and I was craving a steak. I'm always waring about ordering a steak at a seafood restaurant but I was very surprised. The ribeye was perfect cut 12oz and cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. We were seated straight away. The host was cheerful and polite, she was all smiles. The restaurant was clean and well lit. My associate had a fish sandwich and he said it was well prepared and tasted fine, was just a little "dry". I had the fish and chips, their daily special. The coleslaw was great, their fries where hot and crispy, the fish was so-so. The fish was so thin in was overly crispy and had areas that were hard to chew. The flavor was there, maybe not the best cut for fried fish. The server keep our tea full, which earns her accolades for sure. She was on the ball and most helpful. While passing through Deland, we decided to stop for lunch and stumbled upon a local gem serving local, fresh seafood. We enjoyed the lunch-sized portions of grilled grouper and a shrimp po-boy, both of which were tasty and generously served. We took home a slice of carrot cake and key lime cake, I couldn't resist a couple of bites before taking a picture. The owner made a point to check on us twice, a rare and appreciated touch. When you walk in, you immediately spy a case full of fresh fish and as you head back to your table toy pass a tempting assortment of desserts like their famous Key Lime Pie!! We had the Buffalo Shrimp appetizer along with Fried Okra and that was plenty for a meal in and of itself. Shrimp were spicy and tender and the okra was fried perfectly. We had blue cheese and ranch dressings to dip. Beer and Wine are the libations they serve and of course sodas and delicious Iced Tea! I understand that it can be a little busy and chaotic on Mothers day, but upon walking in the manager was quite rude to the employees in front of all the guests which is extremely unprofessional and embarrassing. We sat down to order and I was excited about trying their stuffed mushrooms, to which our waitress came back to inform me that they were out of, so I got the fried fish reuben sandwich. This sandwich was incredibly unstable as the bread was greasy and soggy, and bland as all hell. They have their tarter and cocktail sauces in bottles at the table, which seems kind of gross to not be refrigerated. I had seafood platter with mahi as the fish, scallops, shrimp grilled and fried oysters. Big portions too. 2 sides of red potatoes and Cole slaw All was excellent, served hot, served fast. Traveling for work and thought this restaurant would be okay, my big mistake! I ordered a grilled tuna dinner and only the slaw was passable. My grilled tuna was cold, over cooked and had not one bit of seasoning, no not even salt and pepper. The same was true of the vegetable option that I chose and even the hush puppies were dried out, over fried and not edible. I was told that there was no one in the restaurant to address my meal issues, so I paid my bill, tipped my waitress (who did nothing to add to my dining experience and left) and I left to find dinner elsewhere! I really like DeLand Fish House. The food is tasty and the cake is scrumptious. The owner/manager is often there to greet customers. The parking is lacking. Especially now that a business has been added literally right in the same parking area. There's a tiny, Caucasian lady who wears glasses that needs to be trained on customer service skills. Met up with friends at the Deland Fish House, which is a halfway point between St Augustine and The Villages. It is located at 310 E International Speedway Blvd. It was the second time we did it. Enjoyed the food so much last year that we had to come back. The restaurant is very casual. There is plenty of parking. We had reservations for 1:30 on a Tuesday, but there were plenty of tables available. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was Missy.
