I watched a YouTube challenge that had Captain Ds at the top for the price so I tried it. I also tried the fried green tomatoes. They were excellent, but the fish was fishy and I did not eat more than one bite. However, I am always looking for a good catfish place and I saw catfish on menu. Between the catfish and the fried green tomatoes, I decided to give it another try. We got the four piece catfish because we do not eat that much and we knew we could split it. We added the five piece butterflied shrimp and the fried green tomatoes. It was easily enough food for both of us since we each got to choose one side with a four piece. It wasn't the typical cornmeal coat I was expecting, but it was excellent! The fried green tomatoes were a little bit greasy, but still good. So I recommend the catfish, but I don't know about the other fish. read more

From the moment we walked in, it was clear this place is being run with zero standards. The lobby was full of employees standing around talking and scrolling on their phones instead of working. To make it worse, some were wearing flip-flops, which is wildly inappropriate (and unsanitary) for a food service environment. After the long wait caused by all the socializing, the food arrived severely burnt and completely inedible. Not slightly overdone--charred to the point of being bitter and hard. The kind of food that should have gone straight into the trash, not onto a customer's tray. There was no apology, no urgency, and no accountability--just indifference. So I placed the order online to pick up at 3 PM. I got there 255 maybe expecting you know it to be ready when I got there I went and sat down. They asked me my name. I said mobile order pick up so then they had they cooked it fresh. I'm not gonna lie. It's super fresh but they gave me like 10 fries and I still had to wait 10 minutes inside. For a mobile pick up. They ran out of ice so I got a medium sweet tea with it with no ice. That was cool but this was my first time going here. I don't eat seafood at all so I came here specifically for chicken. This place was nice 10 years ago but has really gone downhill fast. the food is still good but the place is dirty, food crusted up on the floors, old food stuck on the walls, smells moldy from the ceiling leaking, tiles are all water damaged. I saw the captain D's sign one day when I was in the area. A couple of weeks later I was in the same area, and just had to have some. Let me tell you, it has been years since I've had Captain D's fish. And it tasted just as good as I can remember. The fish was very well fried, everything tasted fabulous. I was promptly greeted when I arrived and the service that I received was very good. Now this Captain D's is not located in the greatest part of Orlando, but I felt very welcome, very at ease the entire time I was there. If you're looking for fried seafood, this is the place for you. I had the meal with lobster bites, shrimp, and fish. Everything was fried, including the hush puppies. Everything was cooked well, but was very greasy. I also had the coleslaw which was ok, but I've had better other places. The price was extremely reasonable for the copious amount of food I received. I had to wait quite a bit of time in the drive thru, but I think that was mostly due to what the car ahead of me ordered. I was surprisingly impressed! They were very busy in drive through so we decided to go inside. The front of the restaurant by the registers was sooo hot. The line moved very slowly but gave me time to look over the menu. They have so many different options and many at great prices! 5 different meals for only 4.99, an entree with two sides and hush puppies. It's a great deal! I ordered a 12pc butterfly shrimp meal with fries and green beans. The shrimps were small and okay in flavor but crispy. I love shrimp always so they were still pretty great to me. The fries... so good! They're the battered type and I loved the crispness of them. The green beans were good, had ham in them which was great but it needed some salt and pepper. We also ordered another item from the 4.99 menu, a fish tender with two chicken tenders with double fries. They were out of fish tender so it was replaced with a battered fish, which was an awesome replacement! I preferred it and loved it. Super good and crispy and didn't need salt or anything. They have different sauces, cocktail, tartar, honey mustard, ketchup, and a sauce made by Captain D's which was awesome to pair with literally everything! The restaurant was small and felt very crammed though. The maximum occupancy was about 80 and the dining room felt very loud and like the people across the restaurant are yelling in your ear. :( Overall though, the food was good and service was friendly. What a different place from a few weeks ago. I was there today and the manager was not having a good day. She had a bad, bad attitude( i believe her name is Tasha or Natasha.) I asked her for a refill and she turns away and says, I'm busy, you are going to have wait. But interesting enough, the young lady behind her walks from the drive trough window and takes care of me. As I'm leaving, after finishing my meal the manager talks on a loud tone in front of people" ARE YOU GOING TO PICK UP YOUR PLATE & TRAY? " I felt so embarrassed in front of the other customers and replayed,"If you want me to pick up the tray, I'll do it. As a matter of fact get me a cleaning rag and I'll clean the whole table. Her reply was, "I don't have rags." Well...She's having a bad day. Ifeel sorry for her employees. Well... A few weeks ago I felt like a 5 star restaurant. Today I felt like an employee. Next time Il'l show up with my cleaning Rags,mop & broom before they scream at me, clean the table & tray! They should include in the receipt: Clean your own table. I havent had Captain D's in a very long time. The last I remembered having Captain D's was when I was at a Military Base Food Court in Travis AFB California. I recall their french fries being extra crispy and batter coated. After doing errands - I pass by the franchise and saw a Shrimp Special for $4.99. It was 2 dozen of shrimps with 2 sides and hush puppies. Good deal right?? I ordered the Shrimp Special and had fried okra, fries and hush puppies with 24 pcs of fried shrimps! The fries is what I remembered -- Battered and crispy -- Okra was good , The hush puppies were okay..a bit bland. The shrimps were good but a tad bit salty for my taste. The thing about the meals is that they do not come with drinks. I would def go back again because IMO they are better than Long John Silvers!! read more

I literally just left Captain Ds and I'm upset. I went through the drive thru. First of all I could barely hear and I wasn't greeted. So the girl came on the intercom with a dry voice asking was I ready to order. While I was ordering I felt pretty rushed. After every time I ordered she's like "is that it? Is that it?" I didn't like that at all. I got to the window, she didn't repeat my order she just reached out her hand for my payment. She asked if I wanted sauces which I said yes. I haven't been here in a while, but I must say that it is one of my favorite places for fast food. Although the service may not be great ( it was on this trip), the food pretty much always is. I ordered the fish and shrimp platter and was completely satisfied with my meal. The hush puppies are some of my favorite and the portion sizes are always enough for me to either split or save for later. I am a fan of the food, it is always tasty, and hot. But I have never had a good service experience. I live less than a mile from this location and would visit it more often but I dread dealing with the half-assery. A drive thru order should not take half an hour. Literally 30 minutes from speaker to window. Ordered two adult meals and one drink. "Two sides?" was barked repeatedly from the speaker, taking several tries for us to register what was being asked. I had the grilled fish and shrimp combo....the fish wasn't dried out and nasty like a of places. If you have never had a fried breadstick, you are missing out on a piece of Heaven! I used to go to the store on the other end of colonial dr but for whatever reason they closed that one. Now it's several miles to go to the closest one but it's well worth the drive and the food is always good. I love the original fish and chips and for the price it can't be beat. First the order counter was dirty and had ants on it drinking the free sweet tea. Second the floor had old food on it that had been there for hours. Third no one had on a hair net but had hair past their shoulders, yick!. I wish that I could give them a ZERO! The nasty no hair net weave wearing lady up front had a nerve to get an attitude when I asked her to repeat my order. When she finally did after 5 requests, she has it wrong and of course she had already charged me for it. She slammed the order down on the counter when I asked to speak to her manager. The manager was no better, his shirt was dirty and he didn't even make excuses as to why his employee behaved so poorly. He said that is just how she is. Like we, as customers are just suppose to deal with the bad attitudes of his employees. He tried to bribe us with free food but we refused. He quickly refunded my money after we asked for corporate info. Even the next customer stepped in and said how nasty that same employee was and that she refused to eat there also.
