The food was average in quality and price. It took quite a bit of time to prepare and serve (over 15 minutes to serve 3 cars) We ordered 2 fish and shrimp dinners. The shrimp were tiny. Even other shrimp though they were runts. The fish portions were also small ... akin to a medium sized chicken tender. The main course was accompanied by a couple of hush puppies, standard sides and an upgrade mac and cheese. The veggies (broccoli and green beans) were cooked to destruction... cold, limp, and broken. The mac and cheese upgrade was small but tasty and cheesy. It was also cold. The staff do not wear any protective gear. No masks. No gloves. No nothing. All in all, I was disappointed. read more

First let me say I love Captain D's. It's a bit of nostalgia for me every time I go. Now as for this particular one, I believe the "D" in Captain D's stands for the rating of its food. What's going on here? Food takes a while to come out because they say they make it when you order. Fine. But why are the fries cold then? And the portions ... I think they sliced the fish in half to make one serving because at the other Captain D's I've been to the fish is like twice as big (batter fried ones is what we ordered). Toilet was broken too. Inside dinning area was not very clean but hey that's expected at most Captain D's so that part didn't bother me as much. read more

If the sign on the door says "open till 10", you really shouldn't greet a walk-in customer at 9:10 by saying in a terse tone: "Is this going to be to go, because the dining room is closing?" Fail. Also, if by "the dining room is closing" she really meant "It's now 50 minutes until closing and we have completely ignored cleaning the dining room all day", well she might be right. I ordered the Alaskan salmon plate thinking it would be better than the fried white fish. The salmon filet was small and over cooked. It was So dry I had to smother it in butter and tarter sauce. I just moved to the area and I've been here almost a month now I have not ate at Captain D's probably in more than 15 years. I went there for Friday lunch I did not have to wait long. I got the four piece fish meal. The fish were Chris on the outside and moist on the inside. The sides were also very fresh. Was very happy with the overall freshness and taste of the food and excellent customer service. Keep up the good work will be going back again. read more

Had one of the worst experiences I've ever had in the Captain D's in Porter, Texas on 8-9-2019. The place had one table in when we walked in and promptly made our order. Waited twenty minutes and still no food. A few minutes later the guy who took our order comes by the table and reminds us of what we ordered. He comes back a few minutes later to tell us that our order was misplaced and that is is just getting to the cook and offers us a free desert without so much as an apology. I grudgingly agree to a slice of pecan pie. Meanwhile, another elderly white couple come in and sits behind us and a few minutes later is served their food. Our food came out minutes later, however, by that time irritation had set in and my patience had almost run out. It gets worse. Irritatingly hungry me and the wife try to salvage an already late evening by eating the too greasy and terribly unflavored food when all of a sudden the wife spits out her food and pushes the table away from her. She points to the wall where a large cockroach had crawled from in between the decorative boards they have on the wall. Patience gone!!!! We immediately get up and walk out of the restaurant leaving all the food at the table. I guess we should've known what we were getting ourselves into, a Friday night in a restaurant with no customers, a suspiciously engineered wait too long for food from a cook (one of three employees there) who appeared to not have any interest in being at work that night, a restaurant where every ceiling tile looked to have had some type of leak stain. Our hunger had definitely overtook our acknowledgement of the obvious signals of what was in store. The restaurant's appearance was that of one long past the need of a complete shutdown and renovation. It is surprising that this place has any customers at all. I gave this place 1 star because they deserve it. I have been to this location before because I am an old school fan. Loved Captain D's from back in the day and there are not many left. Went through drive-thru for lunch today and ordered a combo listed on the menu for $6.49. The cashier tried to charge $8.64 with tax. When e questioned her she said the prices have gone up awhile ago. I refused to pay extra because that is not what's posted on the menu. I called back and spoke with the manager, Ashley. She didn't understand what my problem was, if the cost was more that was it. Don't go here. People work hard for their money and do not have it to give to companies that choose to do things however. Okay, this 5 star rating is my "cheap, fast food" rating! DO NOT confuse this 5 star rating with a 5 star restaurant. So, here it goes... Don't confuse Captain Ds with Long John Silver. It is NOT LJS!!! You know that smell and taste of LJS that hits you the moment you walk in? That smell that, even if you were blindfolded when you walked in you would say "I'm in LJS". Captain Ds doesn't smell like LJS, the fish doesn't taste like LJS and no, you're not getting a paper tray of those funky little batter crispies here either. They have a batter that looks similar to that thick LJS batter, but it doesn't taste like it. They also have a cornmeal coating and another coating that I'm not sure what it is but I like it. You can literally get a decent size lunch for $4.99 here! It kind of annoys me that they charge .29 extra for some sides like corn, bake potato. Their hush puppies are really good! Don't order them as one of your sides because you'll get some with most meals. The best thing about this place is, they don't cook anything until you order it! You walk into LJS and there's pieces of fish sitting under a heat lamp. NOT HERE!! You'll have to wait a few minutes for your meal but it's hot and fresh!! Their butter fly shrimps are the smaller butterflied ones with the panko breading, but they're good. Their stuffed crab is good. Their white fish is extremely good! The sides are sides. What can I say. The only thing here that resembles LJS is the malt vinegar which happens to be the best thing at LJS. If you want a good, cheap fish meal, don't hesitate to give this place a shot. PROS: Good food cooked fresh to order Cashier is always friendly They have never gotten my order wrong Malt vinegar! Hushpuppies! I went with my family to Captain D's in Porter, TX and Hwy 59. One family member just got out of the hospital. We found live and dead Roaches in dining room & ladies room on the floor. Rat droppings were on the ladies room floor. An employee, Tosha, was rude when I told her. She just picked up the roaches WE stepped on to kill them, threw them away, and returned back behind the counter without washing her hands and handed food to a drive thru customer. She told me it was impossible that there could be rat droppings in the ladies bathroom. A male employee informed us that the owner fired the exterminator because his "stuff" stopped working so he's looking for another exterminator. The employees were talking bad about us saying "They already got their f***ing money back in the back and could be heard by the ladies restroom. The other customers in there had a 2 year old that said the bathroom was dirty. We asked for a manager and were told there wasn't one on duty. I was told John is the mgr. Diana is assist mgr AND Tosha's mom. We had to ask for a refund AND an apology. The male employee apologized. read more

$13 for this plate, I'll say it's $2 off a 5 star restaurant. The restaurant looks nice. It needs touch up paint on the outside. And it's more like a drive thru place. It attracts more of the elderly but with a bit of remodeling inside the restaurant and touch up paint. It should do fine. read more

This place is dirty!! From the dining all the way to the restrooms. The dining area has used napkins on the floor, seems like none of the workers bother even check and clean it. Restrooms was super dirty. Women restroom was flooded and my husband said that the guys restroom was filthy. The sink has sand all over, toilet has fecal stained and urine stained was all over the toilet. I can already imagine what's the kitchen looks like. I'm just not eating here period. Came across this place one afternoon when I was visiting my parents in Livingston I am from Houston ... I was currently craving fish and chips which is my all-time favorite I get to the drive-through place my order I didn't bother checking to see if that was the right thing since I was driving I noticed that wouldn't be able to eat my food right then and there... So I stopped and proceeded to see the yummy goodness of my food much to my dismay when I tried it it was disgusting there was no salt or pepper in the batter that they consider for the fish , let me not get started on the hush puppy I have had better hush puppies and that was at Long John Silvers the cocktail sauce that comes with this taste like straight up ketchup it's gross ... Needless I just took a couple of bites and was disgusted and horrified I ended up throwing eight dollars worth of food in the trash never again coming back here again this is the worst bar experience I have ever had with the seafood place thanks for your time thanks for your service but your food just plain out sucks and it's disgusting read more
