We love to go here. The view is brilliant and the staff are great. They do free wings the number of your age in your birthday so we always do that but the food is a little pricy. other than that. Went here last night with my mom, dad and husband, our waitress was alright not much problem there, wish the same could be said about the food. I am very allergic to dairy eggs and soy. There only option a vegan burger is made with a bun that the waitress had no clue on allergen info, so she asked the cook and he had no idea either, so our waitress asked if I wanted it plain on the side, wtf? Who would want that? We got our food and none of us were impressed. Over priced salad bar that was unimpressive and not worth the money. $75 dollars we'll never get back. We made a reservation for dinner for a weeknight evening. The person taking the reservation suggested the best time. When we arrived, we were shown to a table in the bar area, though the main area was nearly empty. We asked for a table in the main area but were told they were expecting large parties. We were disappointed, as we had called for the reservation and the bar was very noisy and did not have a view. Strangely enough, when we were finished eating, the main part of the restaurant was still mostly empty. We could have easily been accommodated. Unfortunately, it seemed that the front of the house people didn't know how to manage the reservations. Our server was friendly and prompt. The cheeseburger was excellent and cooked to order. The prime rib special was tremendously fatty and not especially good. Overall, the restaurant had little to recommend itself. I will never recommend this establishment to anyone! My family and I were treated terribly by a hostess named Martha. My mother, my 2 year old daughter and myself (I'm 8 months pregnant) pulled up by boat to Captain Jacks to have lunch. We sat at one of the many unoccupied tables outside. Martha came out and told us we needed to check in with the hostess in order to be seated. We explained we didn't have masks to go inside and asked if she had extra. After waiting outside several minutes I put several baby wipes over my face covering my mouth and nose and went in to check us in. She told me I couldn't be on their property without a mask. I explained that my face was covered and if we could just sit outside. She told me we had to leave because we didn't have masks. I asked her to help find a reasonable solution and she refused to work with me at all. I understand the law requires face coverings while moving around the restaurant but not needed while seated. We had no problem covering our faces with our shirts/towels etc. but she said it had to be a mask and forced us to leave. This happened at noon on a Tuesday. There were only 3 tables outside being occupied and zero inside. Horrible way to treat people. read more

I guess I should have read these reviews before I went there tonight for my birthday wings. Of course, nothing I say will make a difference because nothing has changed. We have been there before and never had the experience we had tonight. We didn't make a reservation cause it was a tuesday night and didn't think we needed one. The hostess was rude and told us we had to go upstairs or it would be an hour wait. We went upstairs and thought it was very pleasant. Everything was ok until we were going to order our second round of wings and my son ordered another beer. The waitress disappeared and he never got his beer and we left without having our next order of wings. We found out that our waitress was the only one taking care of the entire upstairs and had to keep going up and down the stairs. The wings didn't come with blue cheese. You had to pay $.75 for each blue cheese and extra if you wanted celery. WHAT!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME. It was a disaster. Its too bad they are only one of two restaurants in sodus. That is why they don't give a shit if you are happy or not. Management sucks. They will lose more and more customers, not that they seem to care. I used to look forward to going there every year on my birthday but never again. That restaurant is dead to me. I am shocked that they can even keep any help. I was in town for work from NC. This place felt like cheers, everyone knew everyone's name and were very welcoming to this NC boy. I went twice with my co worker who has a place on the Bay and the good was very good both times. Thursday night we went for the wings and they were some of the best wings I've ever had. With a nice setting along the water this is a great spot for a casual meal. I had a fish fry (available any day) -- probably one of the best I've ever had. The waitress recommended the panko breaded option (rather than the beer battered that I normally order for fish fries) and it was delicious -- crispy, not greasy, and very moist. The quantity was huge. Rather than the usual fish fry with fries and cole slaw, Captain Jack's fish fry includes any two sides. This includes a salad bar -- while not particularly inspired, it is adequate and healthier than cole slaw. I definitely will return to Captain Jack's for a fish fry! read more

Went to celebrate a birthday this past weekend. I ordered the special and it got to the table and was cold like it has been pre made and sat for someone to order. Burgers came out rare in the middle and burnt on the outside. They were sent back and they recooked the same burger but not all the way through. Waitress was overwhelmed and we had to flag her down for any of our need. she was very friendly just may have had too many tables. Stopped in tonight for BBQ buffet, which was done for Customer Appreciation night. Our visit tonight was a HUGE mistake. If others had as bad an experience as we did, they won't have customers coming back. The list for the buffet sounded good - pork, pulled beef, BBQ chicken, ribs, salads. Only the salads were good and had flavor. The meats were all dry, tough and lacked any flavor. The pork was a tenderloin, but was not tender (hard to cut with knife). The ribs and chicken were cooked with a rub and not a BBQ; both were very dry and not tasty at all. When our waitress asked how our meal was, we replied that we felt like we were at the Griswolds for X-Mas dinner where the dried out turkey exploded. She looked shocked at our reply. When we left later, she apologized (and said under her breath - I didn't cook it; sorry). As we left we noticed the sign outside said buffet from 1:00 - 7:00. We were there at 6:00. I think the food we ate was put out at 1:00. Our group is hopeful we won't get sick later. We should have passed by Jacks and continued onto The Warehouse. Usually we have a great time at Captain Jacks. This Monday night the hostess told us, even though we had reservations, we could not sit at a table. They were supposedly reserved. We stopped in for lunch yesterday. My wife and I arrived at 11:30 just as they opened. I called the day before to see if they are going to space out tables 6 ft apart for safety. My wife has health condition that could endanger her if there was no social distancing at the restaurant. We were one of the first to be seated. Got a great table at end of outside deck right next to the water. As we sat a waitress came out and put menus on alternating tables for the social distancing issue. A couple of minutes later a large group came in and went to a large table with menus and then proceeded to pick up the menus and moved to a table that was not to be used that was right on top of us. A lady in the group said we should stay 6 ft apart and a man said don't worry it would be fine. They are now on top of us. The waitress came back and never said a thing and did not make them move back to the other table. So I guess a good tip is more important that health and safety. WE WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK. Arrived for a surprise birthday dinner for my daughter. First time at this establishment. We had reserved seating thank goodness. The wait staff was clearly overwhelmed. After seating it was 30 minutes before the wait staff brought menus to the table and took drink orders. Another 30 minutes to get the drinks and have appetizer orders placed. It was quicker to go to the bar and get your own. Another 20 minutes passed for the food order. We flagged down the staff to get the orders placed. Food arrived in roughly another 30 minutes. Overall the food is mediocre at best , absolutely nothing to rave about and it is overpriced. The salad bar was small and poorly refreshed. Meals were finished with an overly spicy sauce. Everything looked like it had been soaked in a grease pit. The steaks were meh. The fish fry was the only half decent looking item , but you can get that any where. Captain Jacks should also change the fryer oil more frequently as well. At least water pitchers were at the table. Parking outside nonexistent. Yes it was a holiday weekend. However this place was a waist of money. I had better food on a previous holiday weekend at the establishment next door. I heard people say good things about the food at Captain Jacks. The people must have been starving as the starving or less educated will eat anything and crow about how spectacular it is. I give this place a big thumbs down. Food is usually pretty good, menu is extensive and wait staff are efficient. We have issues with their new outside seating rules and how tables were managed by the hostess though. We had a party of 7 and even though there were 8 empty tables on the deck, she would not seat us, stating that they can only seat parties of 6 or less outside. The hostess would not give us an explanation for the rules or attempt to seat us at two smaller tables that were next to each other, saying she could not do that. We had to wait an hour to be seated inside and felt like she was purposely making us wait for our table. I would suggest that captain jacks train their hostess to be more communicative and accommodating to patrons. A couple of people in our party wanted to go look at the upper deck while waiting and security told them they would have to pay the cover fee of $5.00 just to check it out for a couple of minutes. Called a week ago to make a reservation for my wife's birthday. Asked to be seated inside in the back overlooking the water. Told every thing was set. When we got there we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated and then was told that all of the table out back were full and we were seated in the front in a corner at a small table. I could see about 5 open tables in the back but was told they were reserved for larger parties. We had five people in our party and were seated at a table for four at best. When I told the receptionist that this was unacceptable was told that this was all that was available and to take it or leave it. When I asked to see the manager I was told she was busy behind the bar. The meal was fine and the waitress was very good. Their wines are mediocre and over priced at best. I have been here several times but will not be going back again. This place really does not care about their customers. read more

Don't know what happened yesterday because I've been here many times and never an issue but this time, wow! Our group had called well ahead, about 20 people and was told no problem. Sunday afternoon, nice day, busy in Sodus Point but always a great destination in the summer. This occasion ended up being like a comedy of errors! First off, they were WAY short of help! We had only 2 waitresses with the main share being dumped on 1 so you can imagine how slow the service was. Drinks were ordered, several were bloody marys that came out w/o olives. Why? Oh, we're out of olives. Really, at 1 PM? A common craft beer is ordered, one that they always have but apparently not today, but somehow a pitcher of it arrives an hour later. Parmesan cheese is asked for, for a sandwich but nope, we don't have that. This is a restaurant and you don't have Parmesan cheese? An order of seafood bisque comes out, not luke warm, but ice cold! The sandwich that I ordered, I'd had there a month ago and it was great but this one comes out with about half the steak in it as previous so definitely not worth what was charged. The one saving grace of the day was our waitress not charging anyone for their initial drink orders, knowing there were many issues that shouldn't have been happening. My husband and I look forward to making a yearly trek to Captain Jack's. Usually the food is pretty good pub fare. Yesterday we made the 45 minute drive but had the most disappointing experience due to extremely poor service. Everything went wrong. Two other couples, unknown to us, even made comments on their way out. "You really got shafted", said one guy. We were surprised because it's never happened there before. Here's the thing folks, when you have a choice between two places in the small main street of Sodus Point well....We came for lunch on a Sunday and it was the start of the football season and the Bills were playing and by the excited patrons who yelled out with every play it was the team of this bar...Now we're trying to watch our weight a little more these days so we didn't get the .50 cent wings and opted for the all you can eat salad bar and two pints of cold brew...The salad bar was right out of any small diner in any small town complete with stale as hell bread....The soup du jour was a mix of the white and red clam bisque if you can imagine, not very good...The rest of the salad buffet was just as bad as you might guess, sucked king Kong balls....Now when the bill arrived at $38.00 with tax before the 20% tip you might say we were floored to say the least....We made one and only one trip to the salad bar from hell and only the two beers were worth the money I guess...Oh well it's one of only two in town....Pass and hope for another choice that's open close by.... read more

The salad bar was good and the fish fry was good which is hard to find elsewhere midweek. We went for free wings for my birthday which is a an awesome offer. Unfortunately, when we went to the first hostess, she seemed overwhelmed and told us to go upstairs where there should be plenty of seating with no wait. We went to the upstairs, there was massive confusion. We had to find a hostess and she told us we would have to wait the same amount of time as the downstairs wait to be seated. My husband politely informed her that they told us downstairs there was no wait upstairs. She snarkly replied we'll how would the downstairs know what was going on upstairs. With modern technology it seems easy enough to fix that problem. The bottom line is I hate untrained, rude servers. An apology for the confusion would have been more than acceptable. Headed over to the Warehouse where we were greeted with a smile and immediately seated. Our server was polite and efficient and the food was fine. Been a fan of Captains Jacks for many years. Went there for my birthday with friends and family, had a reservation. Was seated promptly probably because many tables available. The waitress cam and took the drink order. then she got busy, cleaning tables, being bartender, and trying to cover far too many tables. Once we got a beer and some 70 wings which must of been off doves, we hardly saw her again. We waited and waited to get another beer, I guess you have to go to the bar and get your own. After 2 hrs we were going to order supper, but had to leave and go to another place to finish my birthday meal. Not the place that it used to be all the prices have risen and the service sucks. Great place right on the bay and lake Ontario. Water front seating up upstairs deck have great views. Food is great. The Sloppy Jack is yummy if you like Sloppy Joes and the Prime Rib sandwich and burgers are great too. Service can be slow when they are busy but that's normal at most places. This restuarant has the best food in the area. I don't know about the breakfast service but the lunches and dinners are excellent!!! A great selection of appetizers as well as main courses, with great specials each night. The prime rib and steaks are awesome and the seafood is delicious. They make the best beer battered fish in the whole state of New York and being a New Englander myself I can honestly say, it is as good as, if not better than, some of the best places along the Alantic Coast. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. And, if you have any room left, after your meal, their desserts are to die for!!! Bring the whole family, they have a great children's menu, too. had dinner at captain jacks on 2/21/14 there was 5 of us and it was in the middle odf the afternoon . we were all very impressed with the restaurant there was a lot of bric a brac on the walls but not a trace of dust the menu was small but it had all the best dishs on it the soups were the best we had ever had especially the clam chowder we had steaks and fish frys all cooked perfectly . there was a mistake on one of the orders but the waitress handled it perfectly . the owner tom frank came over to table and chatted with us. we are all big Gordon Ramsey so we asked him questions about the restaurant business he explain a lot to us and we felt like we were his special guests. can not wait to go back and try the Burger. read more

A word of advice, if your going to have all you can eat bread at the salad bar, have some bread. Also the stew at the salad bar looked and smelled like Alpo. Only the flies swarming around liked it. My husband and I went to Jack's about twice per month for dinner- Jack's used to be a really great place to eat, but sadly that is no longer the case. When my husband and I went to Jack's I always ordered the beer battered haddock fish fry. The last 3 times that we have gone to Jacks the fish fry has been terrible...greasy, no flavor, no seasoning, and runny, thin batter (not the fluffy beer batter that they used to have) and my husband's food has been mediocre at best. The first time it was bad we figured it was just an "off" night, so we tried again a week and a half later...and it was still terrible...so we waited nearly 2 months and we just tried it again, and it was just awful again! Three strikes. We won't be back. It is really too bad because we loved going there. I have no idea what happened, but unfortunately my husband and I are now in search of a new regular dinner spot. Each of the last three times my husband and I were at Jack's we did speak with the server about the poor food preparation and quality, and the server did unsuccessfully attempt to fix it each time, but in the end we still had subpar food and still paid a hefty tab for food that was far below standard. If you're looking for consistently good, quality food, I do not recommend going to Jack's. read more

my sister made reservations for 7 family members for mother's 92 th birthday. the deal is they give free wings one for each year. we also had batter dipped fries, a cheese steak and hamburger my daughter and I. the rest of the family shared sweet and bbq wings. all were satisfied with food. we weregiven our drinks,wings ect. in a reasonable amount of time. the waitress makalia l was pleasant,courteous and contributed to a good experience. we came on a Wednesday so don't know what the weekend is like. Our family (7 members) made birthday reservations at Capt. Jack's for my wife, so I decided to check out some online reviews. After reading MANY reviews, from various sites, I had second thoughts. I shared my concerns, but was encouraged by family members to give it a try and I am EXTREMELY glad that we did. The food was good to great and was delivered in a timely manner and at temperature !! We had SUPER table service from Kevin who had "smoke" coming from his shoes.( There were three (3) other birthday parties --FREE wings to the birthday person equal to their age, able to be shared with other table members with NO qualifiers--NO must buy entrée or drinks or deserts etc.. You MIGHT find "better" wings somewhere else, but you can't beat the price --FREE !!) Turns out one of their servers called in "absent" (Our party was on Wed. 2/17, the day following a MAJOR snow storm.) and it really put the pressure on the available staff, including Kevin. Not sure if any other patrons had issues, but the loss of a server in a PACKED restaurant/bar (somebody must enjoy eating there) lends itself to potential problems and dissatisfaction. We experienced NO problems !!! Questions were answered, refills came in a timely fashion, the check was accurate and delivered when requested. Already planning the next family member's birthday celebration at Capt. Jack's. If your experience wasn't / isn't as good as ours, consider "working" with the staff and be part of the solution.
