Well before it's charming renovation, back to when it had leather bar stools at the bakery counter and Jim in the back making the best apple fritters you've ever had. I come whenever I'm in town and it's always good. I think more than anything I come for the nostalgia. The Rice Krispie treats are always a solid pick and I enjoy them a lot. Same with the smiley face cookies, the bakery frosting is the best. I got a parfait for the first time since high school though and was sorely disappointed. They used to use wake robin yogurt (which I do remember them discontinuing some years ago), but now the yogurt is SO sweet. Overall it makes the parfait too sweet with the homemade granola and blueberry coulis. I couldn't help but notice how much smaller the parfait portions are too. They used to be full sized cups and now they're nearly half their former size which was definitely disappointing considering the price has certainly not gone down. In summary, the bakery will always hold a special place in my heart. Been going since I was a baby. The treats are good, sandwiches are solid, and they have a wide variety of beverages. Steer clear of the updated parfait though

They have a rotating menu that they list on their website (www.saltcitybread.com). By the time I got there mid-afternoon, they were sold out of their seeded (sesame, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds) sourdough. Plain sourdough loaves are $10 and the sourdough with inclusions are market price and range from $12-14 it seems. I got their chocolate chip cookie (with flaky salt from Syracuse Salt company) for $3.25, and it was delicious!! Thick cookie with crisp edges and a soft, fluffy center. Huge chocolate chips too! The flaky salt brings a nice balance as well. Will definitely be back!

This little bakery is very cute and offers a selection of different breads as well as sweets. The service is excellent and welcoming. These people know how to do bread WELL. I have tried their italian bread, focaccia, and their braided sesame bread-- which are all phenomenal! They have some sandwiches on their menu as well as some coffee available. On this occasion we ordered: - Braided sesame bread: this is my absolute favorite bread here. The presentation is beautiful, and the bread reminds me of a more savory challah with some salted olive oil hints that remind me of focaccia. The softness of the bread and the density make it so satisfying. It is perfect with both sweet and savory pairings. Super addictive--a loaf usually does not last longer than a day in our household. - Turkey sandwiches: we got a whole sandwich split into two halves. Size is pretty generous and one half is definitely enough for one person. This sandwich, although simple, stands out for its high quality ingredients. It came with generous sliced turkey that was not too salty, delicious gouda cheese, high quality mayo, fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The white bread is made in-house and feels super fresh and fluffy. They were super nice and gave us two bags of chips to compliment our dinner even though we technically ordered only one sandwich. We got it split into two separate containers and my fiancé and I each got our own pickle! Perfect option to get to-go. - Peanut butter cookie: I initially wanted to try the chocolate chip but they sadly ran out. However this was actually an amazing cookie. The thickness was perfect, not too thick and not too thin. It had nice bits of peanut butter and the cookie itself was super buttery, soft but with a nice caramelized crust, and not too sweet. There was a surprise Reeses PB cup in there which was very pleasant. Very good cookie! Cannot wait to come back and try their chocolate chip one. Overall, this bakery is a 10/10 and a very great asset to the area. Even though their selection is limited, I think they really focus on doing the few things they do VERY well. I love how local and homey this business feels. Their baked goods are all amazing and I will continue supporting them whenever I am in Manlius. Highly recommend Salt City Bread! You will not regret it.

It is an unassuming, cute place run by a husband and wife who fill the space with warmth, friendship and delicious food. We ordered crab cakes over rice and butter crumb haddock over rice. Both were delicious and generous. The crab cakes were flavorful and filling. The remoulade was the perfect accompaniment to the crab, adding a nice hit of spice and acidity. The haddock was perfectly prepared--the butter crumb topping had just the right spicy kick to elevate the haddock to a high level. Both dishes were accompanied by a generous portion of homemade rice pilaf that rounded out the dishes. They were also accompanied by some delicious bib lettuce. The next time we go, we'll ask for a bit more bibb lettuce that gave the seafood a welcome brightness (try wrapping the seafood and rice in the lettuce--so good!!) Both dishes were very generous in size. The menu (attached) has many great-sounding sides that we didn't have room for, but we plan to return to try the collard greens, Cole slaw, cheesecake as well as the pulled pork sandwich, seasoned chicken sandwich and roasted brisket, which we caught delicious whiff of being smoked outside as we left. We are looking forward to our next visit!
