Finally found a new place for some fried food around DTLA. This place located inside Bonaventure hotel on second floor. A bit hard to find if you don't know the hotel but the hotel is a big circle so just walk around and you'll find it. Price seems to be a bit expensive on the menu but They have lunch special around $8-$10 depends what you u pick and add soda and soup for additional $2.50 I got myself a fish a shrimp combo substitute for French fries vs rice with no additional charge. Take a bit longer for for the food to come out but understandable since it's fried. Food taste good. Soup is clam chowder tastes ok. The only bad thing is they charge a convenience fee for credit card transactions $0.50 which is no convenience at all! Other than that I would come back but with cash next time. read more

No frills seafood for just under 10 bucks. Located in the Bonaventure Hotel on the 4th Floor, you'll find this restaurant run by two or three folks with limited if any décor. Most people come here work in the area and eat here for lunch. The salmon and tilapia plates are 10 bucks and 8 bucks. Not a bad deal that comes with decent size fish, fresh steamed veggies, and fried rice. Food is ready within 8 minutes or so and there aren't any lines. If you don't care about décor and don't want to spend $15 at neighboring restaurants on 7th Street, this place is worth trying. read more

Some of the best fish and chips I've had. I discovered this place thanks to my awesome coworker who showed me how to get here. The lady at the front is so sweet! She was so patient with me when I couldn't decide what to order. My fish was cooked to perfection. I loved that they had cooked my fries well done as well. The biggest plus for me was they have ranch! And lots of it. They're not stingy about giving sauces. The wait took a bit. I would advise calling it in if you're going on your lunch so you can pick it up and enjoy it quickly. There are seats around the area and out on the patio. Beautiful place to have lunch on a nice sunny day! I almost walked right past this place because it is a bit run down and needs a serious facelift. Oofff. Saw the sign for $12 grilled salmon and naively thought, "Hmm that's actually not bad for hotel food!" Note to self: hotel food court quality is not necessarily better than mall food court quality. The place itself had a bit of a depressed, given-up-on-life vibe about it. And despite the promising-sounding menu choices, the food was not much better. I've had and cooked enjoyable pre-frozen salmon before, don't get me wrong. But this was the ultimate pink cardboard slab of sad. Dry, unflaky, "squished" texture, as if someone had sat on it for a long time. Barren of even basic seasoning. Some pepper/salt packets and lemon helped, but only marginally. It does come on a bed of rice and alongside a plain salad and a coleslaw. There is a lot of food...just not a lot of joy in eating any of it. But if you're looking for some Grilled Nihilism, guess you've come to the right place. read more

Through the magic of Postmates, I ordered the chicken and fish combo from Captain Lee's and I have to say it was pretty good, fried and battered rolled in coconut flakes! This golden delicious fried yumminess was served with rice, salad and coleslaw - it was delish! (The coleslaw is really yummy..that is if you like it on the sweeter side). Eh, this is a tough one to rate. First the good- when looking for a heathy dinner of grilled fish and veggies, you can't go wrong with the price. Taste is good and portions are huge. But the service is crap. I often wait over 15-20 min (this is not a sit down restaurant, it's fast food/food court style). Sometimes there is no one at counter and you have to yell back in the kitchen. English speaking skills are limited. And they say it's cash only. But if you don't have cash, they'll take your card to another one of the food court shops and run it on the CC machine there. A little sketchy. I wanted the beer batter fish at least!! All the seafood was tasting the same. I think some fish sticks would have been better than what I had. This review is going down in the books as an 'FNL' experience (first & last). :( Came here with coworkers for lunch and were not truly welcomed; definitely no red carpet rolled out for us (just kidding) but seriously, the cashier already gave off a bad vibe with her obvious lack of interest in being there. We ordered our food and good Lord, it took almost the full hour. They have A LOT on their menu, but maybe there in lies the problem - lessen the options to speed up the process and master the cooking efficiently. Now granted, this is a seafood joint but I was craving the pork belly bowl proudly displayed on their store front window; for the time it took to possibly slaughter the pig, prep, cook then serve it to me WITHOUT THE VEGGIES in your photo (that I wanted mind you), I should have been more satisfied. All I was told was that it takes awhile to cook pork; well no kidding. Next time try saying 'sorry for the long wait' and be more courteous to the patrons that looked like their orders were being shoved to them or better yet, learn to be humble and graceful. There are far too many options at this location for people to eat at and the quality was less than mediocre (customer service down to the flavor of the food). We will not be returning to this particular restaurant and may sadly have to advise our other colleagues not to try it either. For the price we paid, I hope improvements will be happening. read more

Ahhhhh, good ol' Cap'n Lee's, my old friend. I used to come here often when I worked in a building nearby. But, due to the fact that we moved further down the street a couple years ago (and that I'm kind of lazy sometimes), I haven't been here for a long time. Today, however, I had a little extra lunch time and felt energetic so I made the trek down here. Cap'n Lee's is like a good friend. Not your best friend, but a good friend that never disappoints you. The kind you can not see for several years and when you come back he's the same as he was years ago. I've always enjoyed the food from Cap'n Lee's. It's not spectacular, but it is always good. They have a variety of fried seafood (fish, shrimp, clams, calamari and scallops) that you can get in various combo meals with fried and cole slaw. They also serve grilled fish (salmon, sole, trout, mahi mahi, shrimp scampi and a few others) and brochettes (fish and meat skewers served with rice). If seafood isn't your thing, they have fried chicken, burgers, philly steaks and a few other land-based animal foods. They serve breakfast too, although I've never been here in the morning. Most of the food here is reasonably priced, averaging under $10 for a meal. I usually go for combo #1, which is 2 big pieces of fish, 4 shrimp, fries, cole slaw and a drink for $7 and change. A filling and satisfying meal! Yeah, it does take a few minutes to get your food, but it is cooked to order so no cold or stale fish. Came with 4 small shrimp and a very small piece of flat chicken that looked like a bite was taken out of it. Fried! I want something fried! Wait, I don't like too many things that are fried. Hm, what to do, what to do? Oh, how about the #15 which comes with a fried piece of fish, shrimp brochette, chicken brochette, rice and veggies? And add a cup of clam chowder for a $1 more? Okiedoke, that'll be $8 and some change. Not bad considering how much freakin' food you got. Unfortunately, my sweater now is sporting clam chowder, tartar sauce, chili garlic sauce and lemon juice. Oh, and fried fish crumbs. This may have been the messiest meal I've had in a long time. The fried fish wasn't bad. Pretty crispy. Tartar sauce needed a kick though. Maybe squeeze some lemon in (and not on your sweater). The place is fairly clean but everything I touched left something behind. Chili garlic sauce on my sweater sleeve, tartar sauce on the other sleeve...uh. Yeah, not pretty. What's this rice? Is it...rice pilaf? No, it's fried rice! Like Chinese fried rice or something? Sure, if you like lima beans in it (which I do) and microscopic bits of egg. The shrimp were small and shriveled. The chili garlic sauce perked it up a bit. The chicken was actually decent though bordering on dry. The guy asked me if I wanted teriyaki sauce. Heck no, I don't need more crap on my sweater, thanks! The veggies (mostly broccoli and two carrot slices) were oversteamed. But I liked the skin-on potato wedges that had been cooked with some onion. I liked my clam chowder though. And despite the orange tint to the water (the tap was the same as Orange Fanta), it was fine. Oh, and the wait wasn't too bad even though everything was cooked to order but then again, there was no one around this day before Thanksgiving. The only depressing thing is eating in the Bonaventure and watching Jerry Springer. Wow, I guess my multi-food stained sweater fit into the aesthetic of things. I love, love, love this place. I always get the Talapia, Fried Rice and Fresh Steamed Veggies. It is so dang good for only $6.49. If you want a drink, it is just 50 cents more for the combo. There are two drawbacks from this place, #1 it takes a long dang time to get your food. Solution - order in advance. #2 The drink dispenser creates ultra sugary soda. Solution - don't order fountain drinks, just get canned, bottled or tap water with lemon. With the drawbacks above, the dated decor, and the maze to get to this location, it is still worth the trouble. It is fresh, the portions are huge and it is a great value. read more

I normally order the No. 1 combo [Fish 'N Shrimp $6.99] which comes w/French fries and cole slaw . . . which is a lot of food to grub down. As in previous reviews, I must agree with the "wait time" for your food, although they do suggest you "call in" your order, which is advisable. But on the flip side, the food is worth waiting for. Depends on what ya want to do. The only other place I've had fish & chips in downtown LA was from the Daily Grill, for $15.00; which was NOTHING to compare to Cap 'N Lee's. Sorry Daily Grill . . . but you charge WAY too much for your lil pieces of fish . . . now maybe if the Daily Grill had more fish for the buck, then I'd speak higher of them. Best fried fish I've found in town so far. My touchstone is The Fish Keg in Chicago, which serves up breaded fried fish with really great sauces and sides. This place is pretty good. I had the fish and clam special, then split the soup with a friend. I love that they have all their sauces up for grabs, along with extra lemon because I love drenching my fried fish in lemon juice. The chowder was excellent. Portions were HUGE, and the fish was great. The fried clams were more batter than clam, but that's not such a bad thing. My friend declared his fish sandwich a "true sammich," meaning he really liked it. The atmosphere sucks. They don't deliver, but I would probably make a run to pick up some takeout. Very good overall if you can overlook having to eat at the Bonaventure. read more

If my parameters were a decent complete seafood meal downtown for under $10 in an hour, this is my spot. I've had the chicken sandwich combo (pretty darn good sandwich and pretty damn decent fries), brochette combo (grilled chicken, shrimp and fish served over rice with a bit of tossed salad), and the captain's special (fried fish, grilled chicken, grilled fish over rice, potatoes, and more of that salad). I recommend brochettes of some kind. Grilled and skewered shrimp, cubes of chicken and chunks of fish go pretty good with the spicy garlic sauce/ketchup concoction I mix and go well with the starchy sides. If this place has a fatal flaw, it's that it takes FOREVER to get your food. You might wait 20 minutes for an order, which leads me to believe they cook everything to order in the almost entirely obstructed kitchen (food comes though a hole about 1' x 1' behind the register. It usually isn't a problem for lunch, but it IS annoying when your companions are halfway done by the time you start. read more

This place is inside the Bonaventure Hotel which is right across the street from where I work. I was introduced to this place by my wife. I've tried their fish n chips with calamari and it was good. For a fast food place inside a hotel it is not bad. I haven't tried any other dishes but they offer alot of seafood platters such as salmon, shrimp and so on. I'm sure they have a few choices to meet your taste buds' needs for the moment. Then again, this is not a seafood restaurant so don't expect too much. I was at the Westin Boneventure for AX and was hungry late one night. I was too lazy to leave the hotel and threw only place open was Cap n Less Seafood. So I decided to go. I hasn't had fish n chips for a long time. I ordered the fish and chips combo which included slaw and a drink for $5.99. It was the end of the night, but even so the quality was subpar. The fish had a peculiar fishy flavor and the fried part lacked crunch and flavor. The chips were average. I don't like slaw to begin with, so I won't comment. I will however comment on the funky soda machine. The soda that came out was flat and sugary. These faults lead me to conclude that this restaurant has more work to do before out can even reach 3-Star status. I cannot recommend it, sorry! read more

Random place to get breakfast when staying at the Bonaventure. We always get the cheap breakfast plate which is pancakes, eggs cooked to order, toast and hashbrowns. This isn't as good as what you'd get at IHOP or even Denny's. Hashbrown is a deep fried fast food style potato patty, food is served on styrofoam plates, etc. however when you're looking for a cheap, close, reasonably priced breakfast it always fits the bill. read more

Serving all variety of fish, they seem to specialize in the fried variety. I had some excellent Fried Cod as part of my fish n' chips order (the fries, were not so great as business was slow when I went, so they were sitting around). Great quality, good coctail sauce, excellent price. Even with the subpar fries, I enjoyed the meal. This Bonaverture Galleria, where the establishment is situated, is pretty depressing, though. So, you might want to get it to go and eat in the slightly less depressing outdoors of downtown LA. We've always loved the fish, it is always good and always talk about splitting it. We tried the fish and it was good as always, this time we wanted to try a cheeseburger and some chicken, after this, we decided that fish was still the best. the buns on my burger were burnt, and it was really hard to enjoy. My husband's chicken was over fried, they were average. We always feel bad that there's only one person doing all of the work, we were there two nights and the sweet tea was still out and seems like the condiment are wasn't refilled or anything. read more

I work in the building so I used to go there often.. I love the chicken breast sandwich they offer, usually with coleslaw, french fries and soda, guess what I went there today and they took almost 30 min to get my sandwich done, and when I place the order the lady on the register told me that since it's weekend there is no soda included. I always eat the same on Sundays and always have my soda included, when I asked why, she told me well that is what everybody is getting tonight, and start speaking Spanish, saying that I shouldn't be complaining (be***)about it with her since her shift is already over. when I got my sandwich, hello no coleslaw they ran out of it, and the usual portion of french fries was cut in half , no explanation, no advisory no nothing. I asked for the name of the manager/owner/ or whoever can take my opinion about this fishy handling of the orders today and she told me well the owner is Mr. Lee, (the name of the restaurant) when she was speaking in Spanish with the cook about a manager called Orlando or Rolando telling her to be like that. read more

This is a good spot if you're looking for some cheap fried seafood. Their fried shrimp is delicious, the fish is not as good though (it is a HUGE portion though). But beware of their HORRIBLE customer service! The female Latino girl at the cashier did not speak a lick of English & could not answer any questions regarding the food, the prices, nothing...I was lucky that another Spanish-speaking customer came in to translate...then when I finally ordered she had to go around the corner to find the guy who actually ran the business I think.
