The grilled salmon. It will definitely disappoint you.
    Michelle I.

Oofff. Saw the sign for $12 grilled salmon and naively thought, "Hmm that's actually not bad for hotel food!" Note to self: hotel food court quality is not necessarily better than mall food court quality. The place itself had a bit of a depressed, given-up-on-life vibe about it. And despite the promising-sounding menu choices, the food was not much better. I've had and cooked enjoyable pre-frozen salmon before, don't get me wrong. But this was the ultimate pink cardboard slab of sad. Dry, unflaky, "squished" texture, as if someone had sat on it for a long time. Barren of even basic seasoning. Some pepper/salt packets and lemon helped, but only marginally. It does come on a bed of rice and alongside a plain salad and a coleslaw. There is a lot of food...just not a lot of joy in eating any of it. But if you're looking for some Grilled Nihilism, guess you've come to the right place.

    Tilapia and veggies. $9 dinner!

Eh, this is a tough one to rate. First the good- when looking for a heathy dinner of grilled fish and veggies, you can't go wrong with the price. Taste is good and portions are huge. But the service is crap. I often wait over 15-20 min (this is not a sit down restaurant, it's fast food/food court style). Sometimes there is no one at counter and you have to yell back in the kitchen. English speaking skills are limited. And they say it's cash only. But if you don't have cash, they'll take your card to another one of the food court shops and run it on the CC machine there. A little sketchy. But alas, when you practically live at the Westin, you suck it up and go with whatever healthy options you can find.

I ordered through RITUAL. The food was decent! A lot of rice and a good portion of salmon.

I've been here a couple times and usually, it's good fried seafood, but this last time was just - eh. Maybe my tastes have changed from the last time, but I haven't noticed. I was pretty damn hungry for lunch so I decided to go for the fish, shrimp and scallop and chips combo. What I didn't realize was that when you order this, they batter all the seafood the same, WTF!! I wanted the beer batter fish at least!! All the seafood was tasting the same. I think some fish sticks would have been better than what I had. The shrimps were ok and the cole slaw was good, but if there's a next time, I'm doing just fish and chips so that I get the beer batter.

Came here for lunch, got the teriyaki chicken combo. It came with claim chowder, salad, coleslaw, and a drink. The chowder was good. The chicken was completely smothered with teriyaki sauce. If you love it then this place is for you but it was really salty and I could not finish it. I'm willing to try it again but definitely not the teriyaki chicken. Located inside the Bonaventure Westin Hotel.

One of my favorite things to get at Fish King is the plate with the swordfish skewers. This dish is honestly so unique, and I haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's basically two shish-kebab style sticks of seasoned swordfish, peppers, and tomatoes, and it's served with a few sides in addition to fried veggies and shrimp. I also really enjoy their tacos. They also have very generous servings of poke (I personally don't get the poke from here because it's already mixed in with raw onions and I don't like raw onion). Prices are all very reasonable--the swordfish plate I mentioned earlier is around $15 and a pretty large amount of food. Fish King does get pretty busy especially around mealtimes so it's better to order in advance and pick up so that you don't have to wait around as long. I think if you order in person, you can expect a 20-30 min wait when it's busy. There's a small lot on the side of the market and sometimes you can find street parking too. There are some tables on both ends of the market so you can dine in, it's very casual.

I recently learned that it's under new ownership, with a remodeled shop and an updated menu. As it was my first visit today, this is my perspective. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly and received helpful recommendations. The staff even brought my food and condiments to the table. I tried the London Special ($13.99), which includes two shrimp and two fish and chips - a great way to sample their offerings. When I arrived, there was only one person and one couple dining, but the place quickly filled up. Luckily, I managed to get a table. The friendly staff brought my food, along with five sauces: chili oil, hot sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and tartar sauce. They also provided packets of salt, fitting for the restaurant's name. The food was served piping hot, so be careful! It's fried in a tempura-style batter, which is quite heavy. I found the shrimp to have a small meat-to-batter ratio, but the fish was the star. I recommend drenching your fries in vinegar and dipping the fish in a combination of hot sauce and tartar sauce - it's delicious!

The experience started strong with great customer service; the staff was fast, friendly, and made me feel very welcome as they prepped my take-out order. The atmosphere is a standard, low-end takeout spot reminiscent of a Chinese fast-food joint--not somewhere you'd want to linger, but they offer ample parking and serve the food hot. I ordered the #6 regular combination with three pieces of fish, two shrimp, and chips, which was a generous portion that could easily cover two meals. However, the food itself was unfortunately "mid." While the pieces were large and the crinkle-cut fries were good, the fish and shrimp lacked any real seasoning or distinct flavor--it essentially tasted like "anything fried." It's a great spot for a fast, filling meal, but it didn't quite capture that nostalgic flavor I was chasing.

We arrived at about 10am (opening time) and we were able to find a good spot in the private parking lot. We opted for the grilled halibut and seabass dishes with garlic bread, rice, salad, and ceviche. Even though it was a little cool from the rainy weather, it was still nice enough to eat outside in an enclosed patio with electric heaters. They also have two restroom facilities for any bathroom needs. The main area where we ordered was also where we picked up our orders. We also had the option to call ahead and place orders for pick up/to go. Those were processed in the Seafood Market section (where they had different fresh fish and seafood options). The food was pretty good--opted for garlic butter sauce for the fish and it was the perfect complement to the halibut, but the sea bass was honestly so tender that it needed no sauce. The salad and dressing were as expected. Same with the rice. All of these portions were pretty big. The garlic bread was also pretty tasty and a juge portion, but the ceviche, although good, was a smaller portion than expected. It was fresh and quite flavorful and came with a side of chips. The food was delicious, environment was nice, and we came across others that made the trek out early to enjoy the food at this spot. Will definitely visit again in the future.
