They can't don't cook their food right, the aguachile had RAW shrimp in it. Bad quality food and for an exorbitant price too. Might consider calling some food inspectors to check out if they are cooking it right and seeing their food is up to specs. read more

Came here for Fish tacos and as a fish taco conosour they did not disappoint. They were heavily breaded but the way a breaded fish should be with the sauce on it and not the tortilla . Amazing food the wait is 10 minutes not that long... the food is really fresh especially the mojarra frita with salad and variety of drinks.. Delicious food. Their soup is a big meal on its own, had the shrimp soup and enjoyed it a lot. The spicy sauce included with it is strong. Fish tacos were excellent. High quality and fresh. Will definitely be back, highly recommended if you enjoy seafood. read more

Ordered the fish ceviche and the octopus cocktail. Maybe a 3.75. Ceviche comes with two tostadas and the portion is pretty generous. The fish is really tiny, as if it was blended or otherwise minced up. The flavor is good, though. It's pretty mild; I think the tiny orange specs are a chili of some sort (habenero?). The octopus cocktail has a couple problems. For one, it's overly sweet. Adding the provided Tapatio and some salt helped. For whatever reason, some of the octopus chunks stick to each other. Kind of odd, but whatever. At 11.75 on an app, I'd hope that I'd get at least a couple avocado slices. Would I return here? Probably not. Would I be upset if someone took me here? No. read more

Some notes about this place- if you call and ask what the price is on something they'll tell you a higher price than their menu price. They told me the ($11.99 menu price) shrimp cocktail was $15 over the phone- that's a full $3 more. I went in to order as I live in the area and noticed the discrepancy and thought maybe the person on the phone was new or didn't know the menu (even though they are right by the register). I order the small cocktail. It was basically just large (uncleaned/not deveined) shrimp in a tomato sauce with two tiny slivers of avocado sitting on top with a small sprinkle of onions and cilantro. No cucumbers or avocado chunks just really watery liquid with shrimp at the bottom. I paid extra for more avocado to be added and asked for more onions and cilantro so it at least resembled a standard shrimp cocktail. I also added a side of rice (which was $4 when it should be $2 at most, this wasn't a large side of rice in fact the container was only half full). I handed her a $5 and she never gave me my change- mind you I'm getting this all to go. So I guess she thought she'd keep it as a tip for herself. The rice was good, I also got chips and salsa which is honestly is some of the best I've had anywhere, but my sad shrimp cocktail, while not being the absolute worst I've ever had, is right up there with it. Almost inedible, no flavor and tasted a bit fishy like maybe the shrimp aren't the freshest. It's strangely sweet flavored as well (someone else mentioned this happening with their octopus cocktail) She also forgot to pack any limes. Horrible experience! First I walked in since I wanted to place an order to go and that went downhill. The server told me he couldn't help me since he had a table that was spending a lot of money & couldn't help me?? You can't imagine how that made me feel. I'm really beginning to lose faith in Yelp reviews. This showed as 4+ stars. Is it one of those places that periodically gives discounts if you leave a nice review? Shrimp "tacos" was one taco primarily filled with mashed potatoes. It's not that it didn't taste decent. Everybody likes mashed potatoes. But I think it had one shrimp in it. For $6.50 I'd like 2 (as the menu implies), or one that actually has some shrimp. "Prepared" oysters weren't available, so I was served a mixed fish cocktail without being asked. So badly done compared to the standard. Lime and hot sauce couldn't fix the bland, super sweet ketchup taste, overly fishy scent, and then I realized shrimp weren't cleaned. Gross. Uneaten. Crab ceviche", which I expected to just be one bite given the price, is actually Krab. How on earth do you serve fake Krab and have it taste so fishy and rancid that the customer spits out the first bite to avoid getting sick? I suppose keep it in the fridge for 7 plus days? No idea. Inedible, thankfully. Rice and beans? Rice was fine. Beans were astonishingly salty. Fish taco was fine, but not good. It's the only thing that got eaten. Nonetheless, upset stomachs resulted How on earth does this place have so many stars? Horrid food. Seriously BAD, BAD, BAD. They must have fake reviews going or something. Not sure what the rave is all about, or maybe I'm just picky. I also hate to give a bad rating to independently owned businesses, but so be it. I picked up ceviche and a shrimp cocktail to go for lunch, with some tostadas. And of course some beer next door. I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but I can tell you ceviche is not supposed to look like it has been on a blender. The taste was alright, but it all looked like it had been thrown in a food processor. Carrots, tomatoes, seafood. I really only ate it because I was hungry and because I didn't want the fish to have died for no reason. The best part of the cocktail shrimp was the actual shrimp.... the rest of it had no grace, and in general it tasted way too much like water and ketchup mixed together. Stumbled upon this fine joint with some friends after our failed attempt at the LA Street Food Festival (2/13/2010). To be honest, the gloriously priced oysters (a dozen for $11) and 2-review strong of a Yelp rating were a little unnerving. But our initial fear and hesitation soon gave to hunger and thirst. Our waiter was friendly and the menu is self-explanatory enough with all the colorful photos. And just so you know, PEOPLE SPEAK ENGLISH HERE. Granted they won't be writing a thesis paper on the merit of existentialism any time soon (then again, neither am I)- all this to say, ordering in English/pointing is NOT going to be an issue. And there is a private lot (if you're sheepish about LA sidewalks). Dining in the patio/shack space felt as if Ensenada were waiting right outside the door. Groups of family, friends, and couples joined in on the feast. Bright colors and tacky juke box music, with beautiful plates of tomato/cilantro/onion/lime concoction, the Mexican flair never felt more vibrant and beautiful. When I asked about it I was ignored at first and then only received vague answers on the status of the order. I wouldn't agree more with Christopher H., but it's still worth going during the day with someone, who knows Spanish and can quickly order the best of the best - Cocktail de Camaron or any other sea food cocktail combination. They also have great tostadas, simple serving with imitation crab, shrimp, or other sea food. And, most importantly, fresh, huge, cheap oysters - 6 for $6 and 12 for $12!!! You can't beat that anywhere! This Colima is original with local Mexican flavor and cheap sea food, but it feels more like an island beach house lost in translation in the heart of LA. And the best part is you can bring your own beer (liquor store next door) and drink it right there without anybody bothering you. And yes, that magic cocktail cures hangovers. The good news is that there is lots of Colimas all over the city and the safer locations with the same sea food cocktails are on Beverly and Catalina or one on Alvarado close to 101. read more

The quality of the food was good but very limited on the tostadas given and had To ask for hot sauce and ketchup which should just come with shrimp cocktail as the other mariscos places do it. My coworkers and I decided to try this place because if was close to our job and because we saw the great reviews on Yelp. I tried the crunchy shrimp taco and the fish taco. The shrimp taco wasn't your typical shrimp taco.. this one had potato in it. I was expecting more shrimp inside of it but it was mostly potato. I didn't mind it because it was still quite delicious. Super crunchy too which I loved! The fish taco was really good. It was a good decent piece of fish. It had cabbage and a piece of avocado along with some thousand island looking sauce. When you add the lime everything tastes so much better. The guy who took our orders was really nice and helpful. He was patient with us and answered all the questions we had.
