I had to crack my fingers before sitting down to write this review. Every once in a while, you eat somewhere so unbelievably bad that you feel morally obligated to warn the next poor soul. This is one of those places. The cashier is Patrick Star, and the person cooking in the back must be his long lost cousin. Together they form one of the greatest duos in fast food incompetence. Dumb and Dumber would've looked like Michelin inspectors compared to this place. I pull into the drive thru and order a King Burger with fries and a soda. Nothing complicated. I was polite, patient, and respectful the entire time. I pay, grab my food, park, and unwrap the burger. First bite. Game over. One bite was all it took. This thing was beyond trash. Not mediocre. Not disappointing. Straight up garbage. The fries were the only thing that managed to avoid being a complete disaster. But somehow... it got worse. I head to the restroom to wash my hands. It's locked. I go back to the cashier, who hands me the restroom key. Mind you, this is the same person handling cash, touching the filthy restroom key, and then going right back to handling customers' food. Employee of the fucking month. I finally get inside. No hand soap. No paper towels. Nothing. I walk back out and politely say, "Miss, there's no hand soap. Could you please refill it so I can wash my hands?" She looks at me, hands me a stack of paper towels like she solved world hunger, says "OK," and immediately goes back to whatever she was doing. Didn't refill the soap. Didn't even acknowledge the actual problem. Remember, this is after I treated everyone there with nothing but respect. Then I made the mistake of reading the reviews. Page after page of one star reviews. People saying they got sick. Complaints about terrible food. The exact same issues... going back nearly ten years. Ten Years!!!! At that point, I wasn't even surprised anymore. The real mystery isn't why the burger tasted like it lost the will to live. The real mystery is how this place is still in business. This looked like a good ol' American burger stand. The menu had both Mexican and American food. Prices were a little high but I figured I would give them a try. The pastrami came on a burnt hoagie roll and hardly had any pastrami on it. flavor was blah. The fries were ok. They provided some weak salsa that had no heat. check out the photos. While I was in the parking lot eating some 40 year old loser gang banger pulled up and began spray painting over other grafitti like a dog on a tree. Be careful eating here. Very underrated place in my very humble opinion. They have a little bit of everything and normally I don't like going to places like this because when you don't specialize in one thing everything kinda seems to be off but it hasn't been the case for this spot. This is Mexican food done right. They have burritos, tacos, sopes, stews, even breakfasts. The people here taking your order are always super nice and friendly. We checked out Lucy's after a concert at the Crypto Arena. There was no wait in the drive-through around 11pm on a Friday night. The employee who took our order was friendly and efficient. I'm not a meat eater, so I ordered fries with pico de gallo, melted cheese, and sour cream. This is an order I place often at other restaurants. The melted cheese was delicious and the sour cream was fine. However, there wasn't quite enough pico de gallo, which would have added the witness that was needed. Unfortunately, because there wasn't enough of the toppings, the fries were extremely dry and tasteless. I should have asked for extra toppings, and then I could give possibly give a five star. However, I would try the restaurant again, just ordering something else. On a separate note, the Horchata was some of the best I've ever had! read more

I thoroughly appreciate the fact that this place has a drive-thru option and is open 24-hours a day. I had just gotten off work at around 10PM and was hankering for an inexpensive but hearty bite. I was also in one of those "let's eat a full meal in my car" moods so this place was really checking all of my metaphoric boxes. The gentleman working the drive-thru window was awesome! Super sweet and personable. I'd honestly be willing to come back here solely in support of him. Am I happy with what I settled on? Somewhat. The tacos and the beans were pretty good, with my enjoyment of the latter especially surprising me because I usually am not the biggest fan of beans. As they say "I'm always driving by this place and finally decided to stop and try them out ". First of all it was around 4pm and it wasn't busy at all, so I ordered the Fish and Chips. It didn't take long to get my order and I took it to go. Once I drove off, I noticed a "burnt oil" smell - not good! I got the food home and saw that the breading was very, very crunchy (hard), the fish was nice, fries okay, onion rings had the same breading as the fish and the small lettuce with ranch dressing was warm because of the fish - not good. So, overall the fish and chips wasn't to my liking. It seemed like they must fry "everything" in the same oil - hence the smell of burnt oil - bad! OK, so I'm working the Pico-union area of Los Angeles, and it's not the best area that the city has to offer, but I'm good, I always make the best of any situation. So I'm getting hungry, and the only reason why I picked this place is that they have their own parking lot, (fairly large) and there are spaces available. Looks like your typical greasy spoon, hambuger/taco establishment, but again, great to have a parking lot, as street parking is at a premium for this area. Outdoor seating located to the front, inside seating available on the right side. Looks fairly clean. Drive thru also available. Walking up to the front walk up windows, I can see photos of some of they're offerings, posted around the front of the ordering area, you can see inside, the menu with a very large selection of items to choose from. Hot dogs to burritos, fried chicken to soups. So a nice variety of items to choose from. I ordered the machaca & egg burrito. (shredded beef) and it was pretty good, little small in size but tasty. Came with a small bag of chips & salsa, which was a big plus. Staffers was good, friendly and helpful. Overall a pretty decent place to eat. Will probably make this my go to spot, (because of the parking lot) when working this area. So 3 stars, everything is A-OK. read more

I fulfilled one of my bucket list visits and I was so excited! Baby Boy, being one of my favorite movies, I just HAD to get what Yvette and Jody ordered. Duh! Two steak tacos, one chicken burrito, no strawberry shake though. Wasn't really wanting one that early in the day. It was my girls and I, we were hungry. I mean really hungry. Plus it's Mexican food. How can you go wrong?! I'm a flour tortilla girl, the steak tacos came on flour tortillas. They were super dry! Kinda disappointing. The refried beans and the rice - killed them. In one sitting, yes I said it, I finished off the chicken burrito. It was good. It was HUGE too! I've had better, buuuut the fact that it was hot and wrapped in a flour tortilla, that made it a little better. Now, we ordered a large side of chili cheese fries. I tell you the portions here are hefty. Be prepared to be able to share and still have food left over. Piping hot and real chunks of beer cubes instead of just regular degular beef. I've been to three Lucy's in LA - La Brea/Pico, Washington/Hoover & Pico/Union - and my fave item at all of them is #72, the chile relleno burrito. It's a breaded chile relleno stuffed with cheese, rolled into a burrito with refried beans. It's delicious. The chile relleno oozes cheesy goodness and it's one of the better options around town after 2 am. All the other items on the menu that I've tried - other burritos, tacos, pastrami, nachos, chili cheese fries, etc. - are okay. Not great but good. And even if they weren't good, I'm not gonna complain if my other options after 2 am are Taco Hell or Hell Taco. Good late night eats at Lucy's. Open 24/7. I like this place. No, it's not the best food around but that's not the point. It's an independent & local 24-hour restaurant serving American and Mexican food. I'd muchhhhh rather have this at the corner of Pico and Union than a Chipotle or McDonald's. That's another reason I'll continue eating here. It gives the neighborhood character. It reminds me of the places you see in real LA movies (David Ayer type movies) down to the menu font (what is that? who writes these menus? it's so iconic if you watch movies that take place in LA from the 70s until today). Anyway, I've never actually had the Mexican food here but the Pastrami sandwich was pretty tasty and a good value. I ordered the steak sandwich tonight and it wasn't my favorite but glad I tried it. Right now where everybody is looking for a drive-through, this is an ideal option. Their crispy tacos are tasty, they have a good variety of menu options.
