Cool spot at the lake to kick back and let the kids play. Plenty of things to do and some amazing boats to see along with the awesome drink and food menus. Neat little beach and swimming area with plenty of seating and space so it doesn't seem like your up on a neighboring partier. Great place for large groups, small gatherings or couples. We visited Captain Rons' for dinner and drinks. It didn't disappoint! We ended up staying for about 4 hours. We came early for dinner and drinks. We ordered the Davey Jones nachos and Grouper dinner. Both were fantastic. We took advantage of the drink specials and left a bit tipsy.... But I digress. After dinner, we sat in the chairs right on the beach, had a few more drinks, then went inside to enjoy the fantastic jazz music by the live band. The service was attentive and prompt the whole evening and we couldn't have had a better time. When we return to the Lake of the Ozarks, we will definitely be back. We thought this place was good but could use some advise on how to improve. The nachos -- well,, get rid of the lettuce and put something better on them. This is a local bar staple and you can make them better if you want to. Other food items we had were good and the pizza was good too. Fun place to go for entertainment, but not the place for a good meal. We had blackened grouper dinner, fish was not blackened, it was covered in Cajun season salt. It was served on over cooked wild rice, very chewy. Coconut shrimp was terrible, 3/4 breading and 1/4 thin butterflied shrimp. Great news it was served on the same rice. We were at Captain Ron's this past Labor Day weekend Sat hung out entire afternoon on beach. I am giving them 5 starts mostly because of service and atmosphere. We had China as our waitress. She worked her tail off handling the entire beach service. She was very attentive, friendly always a smile and was pulling an 8am to 10pm shift. Captain Rons was short staffed on beach but China did her best to keep everyone happy!! She made our experience alot better. We tried all different kinds of drinks, Dirty Banana, Rum Runners, AMF, Miami Vice all was good. The food was OK, because could just eat bar food. Chicken strips mostly thin /fried not much meat. Our daughters went in and had crab legs, said they were good but not Alaskan so had to work hard for the meat. M80's band was really good cuz we knew every song and they could sing all of them well!! read more

Fun for all ages! This is not a place to go for amazing food. It's a place to go when you want to drink, dance, kick back and have fun. All of the complaints about the food are missing the point - this place is all about partying on the lake no matter your age or how you look in a swimsuit. When we first got there we automatically loved the atmosphere, there's a beach with a volleyball court, live music, it seemed perfect. But it wasn't even close, in fact, the atmosphere was the only thing that got it 3 stars. Not a great experience. There were 6 of us that went for supper. Two of us got sick. Three of us the food was way over cooked!! We did have the shrimp and the were pretty good. More than likely we'll pick a different spot to have a few drinks and eat on our next trip to the lake. read more

Typical overpriced Lake restaurant. Food was decent but portions are small and overpriced. Do not sit inside if you have young children. The band that was playing was deafening! Not the noise level you would expect at a 6 p.m. dinner more like a dance club at 1 a.m.. My kids sat at the table with their hands covering their ears. Holding a conversation was impossible. The outside area is very nice. They have a bounce house and playground for the kids as well as an area to swim and play in the sand. For a place that looks to be geared for those with children it is a much better place for adults only. read more

As a long time very loyal customer of Ron's once again gave them another chance to start off the season and could not be more disappointed in the quality of food. Yes it's "at the lake" and yes it's a bar & grill. But serving very poor qualify bread and buns with sandwiches. The cheapest fries a supplier sells and seriously generic no name brand ketchup and mustard? These things may sounds trivial but can make or break the simple taste and quality customers expect from the one the "top rate" #1 destination places on the lake. The good is very good pretzels and cheese quite good .however ...really bad service . Took forever to order, drinks were wrong, took forever to get utensils AFTER food delivered , getting check was difficult then they overcharged an item. There are plenty of other places to choose from read more

What a shit show. After watching another patron pay off the hostess for a table after we'd waited an hour we finally got a table. We stopped here for a quick dinner before heading back to our condo and it was awful! We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and it tasted like fish! We got the Kids meals of chip and cheese and it was cold melted Velveeta that had totally solidified before it reached the table. The kids chicken tenders were way over breaded and undercooked. I ordered the shrimp tacos and the shrimp was on the edge of being raw. We got the wings and the flavor was good but they arrived cold. The bill came to over 60 bucks and we came home hungary! I have never been a lake person, mostly because I never had a boat, or an invitation to visit, so when I have gone to the lake, it's been some other reason, like a conference at TanTara or something. A few years ago my reserve unit spent a few days down there, and we kinda sorta got the feeling for what lake life was all about, but not really. this weekend we drove down to visit the 3 caves and stopped at Captain Rons for lunch. Captain Rons is exactly what I imagine when I think of lake life. shirtless men drinking buds out of aluminum bottles and bikini clad women that should probably not be in a bikini, while their 9 kids run around screaming and yelling and pissing people off. the 'beach' here, if you want to call it that, is a very small area of sand, plus 2 volley ball courts, with an outdoor bar and chairs for sitting. the restaraunt itself has indoor seating and an outdoor deck, which had well over an hour wait. we were seated pretty quickly, which was nice because we were hungry. the inside was decorated like a frat house with a pirates theme, and had a number of TVs playing various sports events. our waitress looked busy, but we got drinks and ordered food pretty quickly as well. I got the grouper sandwhich was absolutely delicious, and the slaw was a very unique taste that I also enjoyed. my son got a burger and fries which he seemed to like as well. The prices were about what you'd expect from any bar restaraunt, I didn't drink anything except tea because I had a long day of driving ahead of me, so I didn't even see the drink menu. I think people complaining about the prices though should probably not come to Kansas City and visit the Power & Light District, because they might be shocked. Also I'm not a huge fan of all the shirtless dudes walking around while I'm trying to eat, but i guess that's not really Captain Ron's fault. It was a brief and somewhat enjoyable glimpse into what lake is really like I suppose. I think I'd like to try it for real some day before I'm too old to enjoy it. I think Captain Ron's does what they do well, and considering the crowd, there are a lot of people who agree. read more

We are here twice over the past two weeks and both food and service was poor. Servers we had did just the minimum, take order and deliver check. No checking on us after food was delivered (both times we had issue and had to flag down other server for help). Fries not hot, stale bun on beef cheesesteak, no refills, no ketchup or mustard, etc. Coincidentally saw two other families from our condos and they said they had same poor service. Too many good places (Fish Company, Paradise) to go vs settling for poor food and service. Two more weeks to go on the lake but no more Capt Ron's for us. read more

We have been here several times. This time, we had terrible service. It took 45 minutes to get an appetizer because they "lost our ticket." Almost an hour for our meal with no explanation from our server. We spoke to a manager and he gave us the whole meal free, which is the only reason I am giving 2 stars. We went to Captain Ron's Friday afternoon and the outside lounge and Tiki bar area were not busy. The bartender got our drink order wrong and he did correct it. However, he processed an additional $20 charge to our debit card. I have not been able to reach anyone at Captian Ron's to get the charge corrected and they will not return my calls. I have disputed the charge. Check your account after you visit this popular place at the lake. read more

My family and I went to Captain Ron's yesterday for lunch, a place we frequent in the summer time. They were extremely busy due to the unusually warm weather in February. Do NOT waste your time eating here. Had the cheeseburger and fries. The fries were cold and old. The burger was one of those pre-made ones you buy at a wholesale club. It was cold and had no flavor. We stayed at the rental property three years ago and had an excellent experience. When we returned this time to eat I have to say it was a completely different experience. Waitress was forgetful and kept making mistakes. She actually dropped cold water on my 1 yr old in her high chair. I understand that everyone has a bad day so I will give her the benefit of the doubt because she was very nice. But the food was bad!! I had to give it a 1 star. If there was a star called zero I would mark that. Shootout Treasure Hunt was $25 a ticket. Had one Pain in the A and My fiance had a small can of Bud. When it came to the food We had Shishkabobs that had chicken that was sitting for hours, dried out and grease was still in the chicken to where it tasted very old. Green Peppers and pineapple. Pineapple wasn't even grilled right. I and my fiance can make better shishkis at home. Way better smoked than what this awful chef did. Mixed vegetable consisted of carrots not even done with beans and some other veggie. It had a sweet awful flavor that didn't even go good with the shishkabobss. Terrible taste. Pulled pork was very spicy for me, but good. Not greasy. The only thing there that they did right was the pulled pork. Then sweet potatoe with what I thought was bananas. We had to even ask what were we eating. They never put out a menu of what foo they were going to have. The plantains were dried like a rock. Sweet potatoes were ok. Not worth my hard working money. O My fiance puked from the shishkabobs. The manager was non shalont about the whole deal. Later after my faince walked off puking his guts from the chicken they came back and said the round of drinks were complimentary to me and this other man along with another woman complaining. O. Treasue Hunt time. People not listening to the rules of 2 brown and 1 silver or gold you can only have. People finding and keeping 3 brown chests, 1 gold or 1 silver. Some had 4 brown chests. Not a good night for my hard working $50 spent. We also had breakfast there 4 weeks ago. $10 each for the buffet. Sausage wasn't even cooked all the way. Captain Ron's I we will never go back there again to eat. The worsed food I had ever tasted from a restaurant since I moved to Missouri. read more

Food is only ok when you can get it, most visit was told they had a line down and pizza & pretzels only (whaaaattt??) OK, a pizza and drinks it is. Asked waiter if this was frozen pizza and his answer was "no, we have an oven", OK. Took forever to get a round of drinks, when drinks arrived the Bloody Mary had virtually no vodka and was some cheap salty mix. Finally pizza arrives and it was not fully cooked, tasted like frozen pre-sauced crust that they throw a few toppings on, think of dressing up a Tombstone pizza and you get the idea. Waiter offered to cook it longer which we agreed and came back tasting like a well done, chalky mess. I realize when you go to the lake area during the busy season you are going to fall into the tourist trap with these local food joints, but this is disgraceful. The idea for a dinner out is enjoyment but this was just a complete waste of time and money. This is strictly a place for the drinking crowd to get trashed and are willing to eat whatever bar food is set in front of them. Special mention goes to the 80's cover band, by the sound of things they must get paid in liquor and it really shows by the end of the night. Cheers! read more
