I love this place. I was looking forward to their opening at least a year in advance. I work just up the street and I'm not a fan of the other coffee shops in the area. I love CP's latte with oat milk. They let you bring in your own cup. You help the environment and you get a discount on your drink. Finally, some great coffee in downtown Pacific Grove! I've waited in long lines for the amazing coffee and service from the Monterey location, so it was nice to see a short line here at the new space in PG. They had an excellent selection of their roasted coffees and since it was Sunday, a selection of waffles from a nearby popup spot that also gets crazy lines. The waffle was the perfect compliment to the house roast and the service was just as prompt and friendly as their other location. This is a tiny space, so it won't be the place to sit down and do some homework. But it is the perfect post-surf location and it was great to walk around downtown with a decent cup for once. read more

I love Captain Stoker and I go there every time I can. Everyone should go here. I have to say, the Pacific Grove location must have a small cistern. Visited this location on a Sunday morning. I'll preface this by saying it was busy and the space is small. There was a short line of people waiting outside. I walked in with a smile, happy that I was going to hopefully get a good coffee and support a local business in doing so. That all went out the window when my cheerful "good morning!" greeting was not reciprocated by the girl at the counter. Katelyn was dreadful. She was really dry and rude. The antithesis to my good mood. She was even worse to my mom and aunt who ordered after me. They wanted decaf and when they asked for regular decaf coffee, she, without a hint of customer service training asked, "What, like a latte?" They both have heavy Spanish accents so I get maybe not understanding or hearing them very clearly, but she was so curt with them she seemed bothered by us. I walked out of there already regretting my expensive coffee and waffle just based off of my experience with her and see her interacting with my family in a snobbish/rude way. The coffee itself was fine, but not good enough to erase the bad taste in my mouth from Katelyn's bad attitude. Delighted to have a Captain + Stoker in downtown Pacific Grove. The location is a small walk-up with no table seating inside, so plan accordingly. C+S roast their own coffee (at a different location) that has a sweeter, floral, taste (think something closer to Blue Bottle). Even their darkest roast bean is a shade closer to a baby-oiled Florida sun bather than your typical dark brown bean. So, if you're a bold dark roast drinker, you might be a bit underwhelmed with C+S brew. For most coffee drinkers, it'll be an approachable, flavorful roast. Get there early enough in the day and you can also snag some Parker-Lusseau pastries. Knocked off one star for the hot cocoa we ordered our daughter. My partner and I are both specialty coffee baristas in LA and we come up to Pacific Grove once a month to visit his family and Captain Stoker is the first and last stop we always make when we're in town (and honestly everyday we're here). I don't even know where to start, the baristas are friendly and inviting, answered every question I had and offered recommendations based on my taste preferences. You can tell how much care and attention to detail this company puts into their coffee. I ordered my usual, a cortado, and immediately ordered another. Their cold brew is smooth, juicy, and flavorful. Their milk texturing is perfect, and I'm convinced the baristas are espresso dialing gods. If Captain Stoker opened up a shop in Los Angeles I would bend over backwards to work here and learn from them. If you're in PC or Monterey and your a specialty coffee fiend you absolutely have to check them out and buy some of the beans they roast themselves. read more

I came to this place after a great brunch and this place did not disappoint. The service was kind as it was my first time. Ordered an ice oatmeal vanilla latte and a matcha latte for my girlfriend. The place was small but was nice. I liked the fact a lot of the places around the area included this one have treats for dogs. The vanilla latte was pretty good and the matcha was mid. Coffee is good, wish they offered a size larger than 12 oz for a drip. Their version of no room for a 12 oz is to serve 9 oz coffee. We had to ask twice for our drip coffee. This location is located right in downtown Pacific Grove and the store is super cute. We have been before and she loves the pastries that they also sell.
