Super cute addition to the OG Captain + Stoker located in Monterey. This coffee spot is tucked away off of Del Monte Blvd in Seaside. This is a walk up, coffee window style shop with limited seating outside and no inside access. There was one bench that was communal and could fit 6 comfortably, 8 with a tight squeeze. I ordered the vanilla latte because I had to try their infamous home made vanilla syrup. My latte was balanced and flavorful. We decided to order the almond croissant that comes from Parker-Lusseau because it was calling our names from the pasty window. On the menu the pastry's have a range of prices so it was unclear what the cost would be. After we placed our ordered we saw that the almond croissant was $9.58. The almond croissant itself was delicious, but I wish it had been a bit fluffier. I understand there's a markup when a shop sells pastries from another bakery, but $9.58 feels pretty steep for a single pastry. Overall, I'm stoked to see this local coffee shop grow and will continue to support them.

Honestly, everytime I'm in Monterey area, I always end up there. Their coffee is delicious and the workers there are always super nice and positive! I got a honey lavender latte and it was amazing (as always). The design of that location is also super cute!

    Wonderful cup of coffee (latte)

We stopped for a cup of coffee before heading home. The macchiato I was told, is prepared the traditional way which is like 2 shots of mini cup espresso. I ended up getting my usual latte and bought a small bag of beans 1/2 caf. They didn't have much beans in stock besides 2 kinds. The place is definitely smaller than the one in Monterey, more like a large kiosk. The coffee was delish as the cup of coffee I tried several years ago. Moreover, the staff were really friendly and nice and informative. I should've bought 2 bags of beans, 12 oz, $21 per bag.

Captain and Stoker just added another location to their PG and Monterey spots. This one is a small window service at their main roasting facility. It is a great addition to Sand City and a solid option for the prework crowd as they open early. I already saw a number of local business employees from the industrial area getting their coffee fix prior to work. The menu offers their usual coffee drinks as well as fresh made English muffins from a baker next door. The muffins were roasted with a slight char on them which added a good smoke flavor to compliment the sweetness of the jam and cinnamon sugar. Service was fast and friendly as always. There's only one picnic bench for seating so this is a more grab and go location but they do still offer 'for here' coffees served up in ceramic cups. You know it's fresh since it is attached to the roastery next door!

Visiting from Long Beach and found this spot on tiktok, service was the best and coffee is great!!

This place is a no brainer. Reliable good coffee with classic options and seasonal. Few tables to sit at with good music playing. Staff is quick and efficient with smiles. Thanks guys!

The real entrance is a back door that looks pretty uninviting but trust me, you want to enter it. When you are inside you will be met with racks of freshly baked bread ready to go home with you. If no one is around just holler out and someone will be with you promptly. Palermo's is a commercial bakery that you can find in nearby grocery stores but why not go directly to the source and support local. We picked up a sourdough baguette, a sweet baguette, and a few sandwiches rolls. Overall, my favorite was the sourdough baguette. I can't wait to come back here and order more bread to share. *** cash only ***

I'm a sucker for a good baguette. I wanted it to be slightly crispy on the outside so that you hear…read morethe crunch when you lightly press it between your fingers, but I also want it to be dense enough that it springs back... all while retaining a soft and airy interior that isn't TOO airy that, when you slice it to make Crostini, the air pockets are too large to hold anything on top of it. Is that too much to ask? All jokes aside, their sourdough baguette was excellent. A bit firmer than I like, but an even texture on the inside, and the tanginess was exactly right. The sweet baguette was a bit undercooked in my opinion, and did not have the crispier texture or color on the outside that I was looking for. The interior had the density I was looking for, but the sweetness was missing. I also ordered a sandwich bread And it was "fine" but not anything special. I'm excited to come by and purchase more sourdough and other bread options, but I'll pass on the other two that I tried. Remember to bring cash as this is a very casual walk up spot. There was one gentleman working in the bakery when I arrived, and he had to stop what he was doing in order to help us. He was friendly and informative and made us feel welcome. Finding the entrance is a bit confusing at first but they do have plenty of signage to direct you to the right door. Even so, when you walk up the steps, you feel like you are entering through the back entrance of a restricted employee only area. Don't let the grimy exterior fool you. Inside is very clean and this is a working commercial bakery. You won't find a counter or register in sight. Just say hello when you arrive and someone will be with you shortly. Enjoy!

It didn't look like it died down which is awesome for this business. I believe I waited 20-30 minutes in line before I reached the display case. There were so many delicious things to choose from, it was a challenge to decide! I opted for a croissant sandwich, a blue corn cookie, and some sweet treats for the beach. I also ordered a seasonal latte, I believe it was cherry chocolate with oat milk less sweet. There's a nice outdoor seating area with many tables in chairs. Since the weather was nice we decided to stop and eat for a bit. The ambience was very nice and calm. The food was delicious and their house made pickles were fantastic. They were crisp, fresh, and complimented the turkey sandwich so well. The blue corn cookie was very interesting and reminiscent of a tortilla chip. I'd definitely come back here if I were in the area.

Latte was decent, not too bitter or acidic and it was creamy They try a lot of variations for pastries, both savory and sweet! The savory danish was really tasty and there was some pickled / citrus component that added more depth and made it super interesting to eat! The salmon croissant was alright, had a really nice flaky crust but the filling tasted kinda gamey , would've been nice to have another component to balance it out. Cookies were niceeeee the buckwheat choco cookie had nice amounts of sea salt and was like a brownie texture on the inside. Choco chip cookie was thin and crispy on the outside with chocolate blobs spread around, quite sweet though There was a line going out the door but only had to wait around 15 min!

It's a small shop, and since I wasn't sure yet if I wanted a pastry, I ordered a coffee first while my husband looked at the case. One of the women behind the counter told me, "Usually you order pastries first and then we get the coffee at the end." The way it was said immediately made me feel uncomfortable, like I was somehow doing something wrong. I apologized and explained we weren't from here and I wasn't even sure yet if I wanted anything else. Their tone changed after that and became much friendlier, which honestly made the interaction feel even more awkward. My husband ended up ordering pastries, including a chocolate croissant for me, and both the latte and croissant were good. Sometimes the experience matters just as much as the food. It's hard to fully enjoy a place when your first impression made you feel unwelcome. I truly wanted to love this spot because it came so highly recommended as she visited it daily, but I left feeling more embarrassed than excited to return.
