First time here and left happy and full. My wife and I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was full but it only took about 15 minutes for us to get a table (it would of been long but we opted to take advantage of the outdoor seating). Now I don't like outdoor seating if it to hot, but they had fans outside that made it comfortable. We got some fried pickles for an appetizer which tasted pretty good (not the best I've had, but good none the less). My meal was their pimento cheese burger. How on earth have I never put pimento cheese on a burger before??? It was fantastic! There was so much of it on the burger that it kept squeezing out and falling on my chips.... bonus, now I have pimento cheese chips as well. I highly recommend ordering that! Was in town for golf and had to stop by. This is always a favorite and this trip did not disappoint. My brother and I went upstairs and enjoyed the music while having a great happy hour. The service is always good and quality of pour great. We had a shrimp basket that was great. Woodys is always consistent. First time, but definitely not the last. My crab cakes were delicious. And it wasn't mostly breading with a tiny amount of crab like some places will serve. It was packed with crab and I loved every bite! We sat outside. It was a screened in porch area so there wasn't any issues with bugs. We were only inside long enough to walk to walk through to our seats so I can't really comment on the inside. Our server was nice and didn't let us sit with empty drinks. Our experience has been the Seafood Trio is deliciously creamy rich with scallops, fish and shrimp. The clam chowder is hands down the best I've ever had. The cornbread from their choice's of appetizer is very tasty and we tried to hold some back for dessert, it's that yummy and sweet, but we couldn't help ourselves. The hush puppies for an appetizer is a great choice too and has enough to tied you over to accompany your dinner entree as well. If you have some self control that is. There are 2 locations and there is absolutely a difference!! Not taking anything away from the location on the island, but the one in Bluffton has better quality food, larger portions and more personable staff. This is a really cool spot! Even during the pandemic they have a nice chill vibe with live music. The staff was very friendly and had great service. They had a great selection of beer and wine. If you are boujee and want draft beer then you will have to go someone else. The shrimp were so fresh and could have been caught just an hour before me eating them (that's a rumor but I don't care so spread it). You have to go and try this place it. Um. I really don't know what to say about this place. There are mixed feelings... First off, the service was slow. The employee(s) failed to bring us a second menu as my friend and I were being ghetto since we were sharing the it. Not only that, they failed to bring us a second set of utensils. Um. I've never worked in the food industry, but isn't this the bare minimum things: provide customers the correct number of menus and utensils. The final ticker: My friend noticed that there were food particles at the bottom of our water glasses. Yup. Surely enough she told me from personal experience why and how these particles came to be since she experienced it herself. It's really gross since it's probably relating to how unclean the dishwasher may be. Needless to say, their food was just average. Most things were fried. We both choose from the Woody's Signature Fish Sandwiches section. In this category, there's three types of fish to choose from: grouper ($13.99), trigger ($11.99), or fish of the day ($9.99). Once you choose the fish you like, pick the type of sandwich you like: the melt, reuben, buffalo style, or simply fried. My friend's grouper with the melt was salty as she stated. My fish of the day (which I can't remember for the life of me what it was) with the buffalo style was flavorless. The food portion was decent enough. The seasoned fries were delish though. Lol. Have eaten here 3 time in the 6 months since we moved to SC. Very impressed first time with the fish and chip basket, would have rated it a solid 4. But the second time we had the same meal the portions were smaller. Third time I opted for the fish an chip plate. Noticed that the both went up about 5 dollars each. Didn't know that the fish changed from planks/strips of cod to filets. Not as good and 5 dollars more. Increase the price if you must or lower the quality of the food but not both. read more

Was down in the Hilton Head area and stopped in here for a bite to eat. Tried to got to The Corner Perk but after 3pm they just to take out sandwiches and we wanted to sit down and eat. They suggested Captain Woodys around the corner. It was pouring when we walked in which made the AC on our wet skin feel that much colder so we opted to sit outside under the covered patio. It was crazy loud at first because of the rain bouncing off the roof but once it slowed down it was definitely the place to be. I had the open face fish melt with cheese onions and mushrooms. Whatever was in the sauce on the side had a limey refreshing taste. I went for the catch of the day (Tilapia) since it was $4 more for the Grouper and not worth it in my opinion. In a place like this I don't think you're going to see a huge difference in the cut of white fish. The hush puppies were great too and were served hot with a soft honey butter to spread. The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. If I was back in the area I would probably try something else just based on variety but, wouldn't be upset about winding up here another time. read more

I came here with my family after searching for a nice place to eat. It did not disappoint! Captain Woody's offers and is a fine dining experience. First of all, the food is delish. I had the fish basket. The fish was cooked to perfection and the breading on it was very good. It was way better than most of the restaurants fish that I have tried. I highly recommend the fish! My wife on the other hand had fried oysters. Those were fantastic because they had great flavor and were again cooked perfectly. The fried oysters were probably one of the best ones she had she claims. That is saying something considering she is hard to impress! The service was good too. Our waiter came at the perfect times and she made sure we got taken care of. There was never a wait. All in all this place was great. I definitely recommend Captain Woody's. Five star food but three star service this visit. I'll get the service part out of the way first--I honestly think we just had a new/inexperienced or slow or overwhelmed server. She was in absolutely no hurry even though the place was packed at lunch and the hostess kept shooting her daggers to move tables a bit faster (our whole lunch experience there was an hour and a half). Maybe just a bad day, who knows. The food was killer. We tried the hush puppy and crab cake appetizers. The hush puppies are amazing--the outside is ultra crisp but the inside is almost a doughnut texture and their addition of peppers in the mix is a nice touch. The honey butter is more honey than butter, is sweeter than average and is the perfect compliment. Crab cakes tasted like crab cakes are supposed to taste--amazing traditional flavors done right and no skimping on the crab. Wife had the crab soup which was delicious and surprisingly light for how creamy it is. I had the shrimp and grits which were light and fresh (minus the grits which were majorly creamy and a nice foil for the rest). Shrimp were *perfectly* cooked. Kids were lame and just got grilled cheese, but their stuff was good too and we were impressed by the homemade chips that came with them. Would absolutely recommend and if we were local we'd go back as many times as it took to try everything on the menu. Go early--this place is always packed. read more

It's like paying $40 a plate to eat amazing buffet style seafood with an ambiance of Denny's. First time we ate there it was suppose to be romantic night out. We sat next to an extremely loud table and could hear everyone's table conversation on all sides. I could have reached over and grabbed something off the table next to us, it was so close. They really need to care more about the customer privacy and less about how many tables they can shove into one tiny section. We've been back with a group. Food is amazing. My husband I went here the other day and the food was sub-par at best. My husband had the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich and I had the fried flounder sandwich. My husband said there was not much flavor to his Mahi and the sandwich was quite bland. He did like the homemade chips that came with the sandwich. The Fried Flounder sandwich was incredibly bland. The piece of fish was far too large for the sandwich (I know a flounder filet can be larger but this was just far too big). Because it was bland as all get out, I wasn't excited to have extra fish. I ended up drowning my sandwich in tartar sauce just to give it some flavor. The fries that came with the sandwich were good, but that was about it. This restaraunt is reasonably priced, but lacking in quality. The service here is ok, gets crowded quickly though. I tried the shrimp n grits and they were not as good as Charleston or Summerville area, obviously right?! They're Skimpy on the shrimp and the tasso gravy was really liquidy, not creamy. And it was lacking depth in flavor too. I am alwAys hunting for awesome shrimp n grits, so on a 1-5, theirs is rated around a 2.5. It seems like the further you go from the lowcountry up or down, the worse the shrimp n grits get, lesson learned. I think the worst shrimp n grits I've had were in Virginia. So, I had high hopes for decent shrimp n grits in Bluffton. Like I said, it gets crowded and noise level is high. But, the prices are reasonable. However, on a second take, I tried some of my wife's fish she ordered and it was dry, slightly overdone. I wouldn't visit this place again. Decided to check out Taco Tuesday. Our party of 8 arrived at 5:00 to find 4 people at three tables "holding" 24 seats so we had to split the group 4 and 4/men and women. We enjoyed the tacos and music but 2 of the couples left early after flagging down the waiter and paying their tabs. When the 4 of us who were left went to pay our tabs we were informed by the waiter that we owed for food allegedly ordered by those who left. We explained that they had paid their tabs in full but the waiter basically wouldn't let us leave until we paid for the overage. He said it wasn't his problem and wouldn't entertain that idea that the error was an overcharge. He said we should pay and get the money from our friends. Disgusted and angry, we paid and left. Very disappointed in a restaurant who lets a few people "squat" and save tables an hour before the rest of their party arrived and out money for food we didn't order or eat. read more

I will tell you what was good, first. The shrimp chili was actually soo delicious. That was the only decently priced item we got. It was also the only decent quality we got. Our waitress was far from pleasant. The place is not the cleanest, and we had asked for new silverware, as ours were both scungy. The glasses had that old water smell to them. I had gotten a side of veggies with my soup. The veggies had zero seasoning, and were mostly raw. My boyfriend ordered a crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was average. He didn't care at all for the kind of buns they use. It had a drop of sauce, and the tomato was basically white, it was so pale and hard. He had slaw on the side, and it had good flavor, but was quite watery. The prices here are a little much for the atmosphere and overall quality of food. They need to do some housekeeping, and hospitality training. I wouldn't return. read more
