First time visiting. The A/C inside was so cold we decided to sit outside. The entire time we walked through the restaurant we were never acknowledged by any team members. Once we found our table outside we were then told they were closing the outside area for the night, it was 6:30pm. When we explained the A/C was too cold inside, all we were told was "yes, that's been a problem today". We stated we would find somewhere else to go, and they were ok with that. read more

It's the off season and I had an OFF experience. Fabulous location on the water with a beautiful dock out front and a sign noting historical significance, since 1904. They must have trouble with parking as there are many unfriendly signs about parking. After a 3 hour drive I was famished and anxious for some "local color" seafood (that smelled delicious). When I entered the restaurant I was not greeted and there was no hostess stand. Every table in the place was filled, so I ran to the bathroom to wash-up in the hopes someone would finish up. I quickly came back to stand near the door, still unnoticed, but saw a table being cleared. I headed that way. A couple came through the door, dashed for the table and sat down. I was stupefied. Didn't wish to cause a scene, though many customers saw this as did a waitress. I left unfed and disappointed. I gave it a second star simply for the view. I believe the employees should be more "on the ball" for what's going on in their restaurant and politely control seating. What a bad taste for Bokeelia. read more

This place does have a nice view - if you're seated by a window. Basically, it's a little dive at the end of Pine Island in Bokeelia. We went in because we assumed it would have the freshest seafood on the planet. Since there is a huge dock outside with loads of fisherman using it. Boy were we wrong. When I asked if their seafood was fresh the waitress responded "no" with a smirk. The guy next to me asked her if they had Grouper and she responded "no, we haven't had that in over 10 years" with a giggle. So it's funny that you have frozen seafood while be located on the water? Hmmmmmm. At any rate, my wife and I ordered a seafood platter. It was fried, frozen garbage and I think Stoffers makes just as good if not better. The waitress insisted that I try to chowder which I did. The reviews are right. It's darn good. Unfortunately, I had the best chowder of my life a couple nights before at Prawnbrokers, so this place didn't stand much of a chance. But to be honest, it was worthy and tasty. They have a great location here, and obviously the locals like it. If I'm ever back on Pine Island I'll make sure to not visit this establishment. Well this has to be the best tasting food , since coming to SWFL. And the view of the ocean is outstanding. I order the Saturday special 3 pieces of fried fish with a side of homemade potato salad. MMMM good. The fish was cooked to a golden brown and hot / moist on the inside. Potato salad ahhhh good. Firm potatoes with a tangy mayo dressing . They even had malt vinegar like a REAL British fish & chip place. 20 yards from the water and to a small pier. Great location for a date. People were soooo friendly and nice. Only draw back about 15 mile from Cape Coral. So only once a week trip. :-( Give this place a try you will not be disappointed. read more

First time here, lovely scenery here in Bokeelia. OK so hubby and I went there for our get away lunch while the kids are in school. LoL. We walk in and were told to sit anywhere. The decor was quaint, a little Halloweenish/pirate like. Casual attire definitely. He had a bowl of the seafood soup as recommended by our waitress. I waited till I tasted his and then ordered a cup. It was delicious. She then recommended the seafood basket. Said it has a good variety, 1 crab, fried shrimp, and fried clams. Also comes with fries and coleslaw. My hubby ordered fries with cheese on them, and I ordered the seafood basket. I figured we could share. I asked the waitress to please have them make the fries real crispy. She said no problem. I have yet to find a restaurant to make my fries crispy. Oh well, I guess we will keep searching. So the only thing I had use for was the coleslaw & the fried shrimp. Otherwise, I didn't like anything else in the basket. Gave my hubby the fried clams, and a shrimp. The fries we took home, hopefully I can crisp them up. Lol. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Captain's Con in the near future. Pity too, the view is so pretty outside there. read more

My wife and I went here on a Friday evening, first time eating in Pine Island, to have a nice meal and enjoy the sunset. This restaurant is fine for what it is, seashore diner, almost everything is fried. The service was alright, I don't think there was a hostess, there was a sign-in on a clipboard but we overheard a conversation between an angry/flustered waitress and the bartender indicating we should go to a table in the front of the restaurant. Our waitress seemed pretty busy but was attentive. I read on here to get the clam chowder so I ordered that and my wife had the seafood soup, the waitress said I needed to try her seafood soup and I would like it. I couldn't' tell the difference, both were overflowing in the cups, sloppy presentation, maybe microwaved. For the main course I had flounder with shrimp and wifey had an oyster basket, french fries with both. I had a salad which was very below average. Her oysters were over fried and way too chewy but not terrible. I like both the flounder and shrimp, I think they would have been better broiled or grilled, something lighter than a deep fry. We shared a slice of pecan pie that I'm sure was wearing a sara-lee tag 5 minutes before we tried it. Another yelp reviewer mentioned the Con has been there for ten years and it shows, the decor looks like it's from the late 60's. The worst part is there is so much potential there, the location is amazing, I picked this place for dinner b/c the Tarpon Lodge was closed for a special event and wanted some place to watch the amazing SW FL sunset. There is a fishing pier just across the parking lot packed with people watching the sunset but in the restaurant there are only 4 windows along the west wall, all with the blinds closed, some customers were even opening them to get a look. That room should be open to let some breeze in and let us see some views! It feels more like a roadhouse along some highway than a seaside restaurant. IDK if we'll be back... Oh and we overheard a waitress try and describe the wine list and said they had a nice MAR-lo, pretty much sums up this place. read more

Excellent food. Price is very reasonable. Great view if you sit outside. My wife and I both had the oyster sandwich platter. The oysters weren't very large but we're very flavorful. We also had a cup of seafood soup which was excellent. It was crab based with shrimp and scallops and lots of them! My mother in law had the sea scallop platter. She was kind enough to let me have one and it was outstanding! Lightly fried and huge. I think there were about 10 or so on the platter. They have unbelievable pies too. I've had the peanut butter pie in the past which was very good. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant since I was under ten, as I grew up on Bokeelia. This restaurant is located at the very tip of Bokeelia (take a right when you reach the four way stop when reaching the island center), as far as you can go on the island. It is quite a trip to get there for most people, but for me it is always worth the drive. I always have the fried fish special. The beer batter is the best I have ever had. They used to use grouper but I believe they changed to sway or some other mild fish a few years back when grouper fishing was restricted. The prime rib is also good, and I've never been disappointed by the chowder. The pies are delicious and made from scratch. The prices are decent. This place has great food, don't judge it from the building (old) or the decor (tacky). Window seats have a good view of the Gulf. read more

Great location. Outdoor tables are only steps from the water. We watched dolphins swim by and people fishing on the fishing pier. We started with corn fritters and had a grouper basket and a fried shrimp basket for dinner. A slice of key lime pie was dessert. The food was okay. Not great but not awful either. The service was really slow. But the staff was very friendly. There was an interesting mix of locals and tourists. But the view, the sunset, and the quiet location at the very end of Pine Island make this a quaint place that we will probably go back to read more

Star for the ice cold beer. My review is going to mention several bad things about the place, but its because I want things to be BETTER for her customers, her restaurant, and herself. I really wish they would call "Kitchen Nightmares" & beg for help. This place COULD be amazing. It used to be! They have a lot of locals in the area who are very nice, respectable, and who deserve to be served good, clean, fresh food. Anyone who says this place only serves excellent food, needs to get off the island and try some other restaurants.I believe the reviews which say her pie is excellent! But, the rest of the food needs help. it is not hard to cook basic delicious entrees or even burgers. I don't know if the owner is trying to cook with old broken equipment, or completely broke, but she really needs help or to spend her revenue on fixing the problems.The locals seem to really care about the owner and the restaurant but it seriously needs a complete overhaul. I would give them a star for their location, but they ruin it by not having nice windows to look through, the dining room furniture is old, cracked, and has years of filth ingrained in it. The entire building, is so dirty, at this point it needs emptied out and power washed. Soap, scrub brushes, knives to scrape off gunk, clean rags, and removing stinky carpet would help; a lot.That is not expensive. I don't know what was up with the ceiling, if she was trying to cover up that its falling down, but the woven bamboo mats stapled on it was not a good look. Speaking of good looks, decor is a matter of personal taste, but the overwhelming amount of skeletons, grave, halloween decorations crammed into every available space was overwhelming and did nothing to make the place look nice. The waitress was pleasant enough, when she finally came over. We were there early in the evening, there was one other table in use and a couple older men at the bar, obviously several drinks done, by their actions and voices. The little one ounce serving of coleslaw was warm. The 5 small fried shrimp were frozen. Fries were cooked in old grease and cold. Neither of us felt well immediately after trying to eat the food. Even the ketchup was rancid. Their entrance hallway and first area smells like somebody died, and/or the sewer backed up. The gift shoppe was more like a closet of junk, no a/c, and a fan crammed in a corner. This visit was one year ago. I hope they AT LEAST got rid of the stench and learned how to change the fryer grease every day. Also they need to fry the seafood separately from the frenchfries. I truly want this restaurant to succeed. Maybe someone could contact Gordan Ramsey of Kitchen Nightmares for her. Or start a gofundme page to buy her some new appliances, new flooring in spots and to do whatever repairs are needed. I wish she would let her customers choose the decor- both the permanent and seasonal. It would surely be an improvement. Or maybe an interior designer would come in. Or, how about looking into grants for her? Maybe it could be a historical landmark and qualify for some kind of help. This is my first review on Yelp but I felt I had to say something. I ordered the fish and chips at this fish restaurant and for 11 dollars I received a thin slice of frozen fish about the same quality but 1/4 the thickness of a fish stick served at grammar schools across the country. I tried some but could not believe the quality. It whole meal was worse than any airplane food I have ever eaten, and I travel a lot. I asked the waitress at the end of the meal if the fish was frozen but she replied no, but I heard her ask someone else and they said yes. Yuck! read more

Charming restaurant with a stunning ocean view on a windy day. Seafood and clam chowder were amazing, worth the drive. However we had a disastrous experience with oysters on the half shell. Were served at room temp not on ice. The taste was foul and off. We sent them back as uneatable. Waitress first took them off the bill and then put them back on. Great friendly service and decent food! I had the seafood chowder which was very thick and good with every bite filled with seafood- shrimp, fish, and scallops. Definitely outside the beaten path! Little place with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Seated right on the water in Bokeelia, it's a fun little mom and pop dive that has been here forever! They offer a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu including soups, salads, sandwiches and full dinner entrees. All homemade we tried the crab nuggets, sirloin steak and meatloaf dinners. The sirloin steak was large but a little tough. Meatloaf was fresh and homemade and served with a nice salad and potatoes. We sat outside and the only real ding I would say is to serve with real utensils. Staff was great! Very relaxing along the waterfront. read more

This review is only for the peanut butter pie. Stopped in after a day of fishing and ordered a whole peanut butter pie to go, as suggested by my parents. It was the most amazingly delicious dessert item I have ever tasted. Total for the whole pie was around $19. Worth every penny, now I can die happy. read more

I have lived here for 30 years and had never gone out to this restaurant. Wow, was I disappointed. The food was frozen not fresh. I bit into something while eating my shrimp that I am pretty sure wasn't suppose to be there. They have such an incredible location and the food is horrible. Stay clear of this place... if you want seafood, eat somewhere else. We ordered to baskets, one was shrimp and the other was clams. Our bill was $37! Neither of us. I wasn't expecting much because this was a typical Florida mom and pop tourist restaurant that gets by on a good location. Our waitress was nice and there was a close view of the beach. We ordered fried shrimp, scallops and a cheese burger with onion rings. The onion rings were really greasy and had globs of uncooked batter on them. The cooked part of the batter had fallen off a lot of them where the exposed onion ring was burned and black. The fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil and hour before we got them hard & dry sitting under a heat lamp maybe? The fried shrimp had mushy wet corn meal, my burger was not a pub burger, I will say it was better than Burger King, but not by much, I should have complained but I didn't. One of the worse dining experiences we ever had. The blackened grouper ($16.95) was so salty it was impossible to eat. We complained about the the horrible fish and the waitress offered to replace it with a piece of fried flounder (10.95). We were brought out half a portion. When the bill came I asked for the price of the meal to be adjusted, the waitress said she would not do this because a bite of the grouper had been eaten. I explained the only way to find the grouper was bad was to taste it. She said I still have to pay the higher price. The waitress generally had a bad attitude not to only us but the other customers too. By the way all the other food was marginal at best. This is the first in my life I have not given a tip. Wife and I had lunch there today. Our first question was "What do you have for fresh, local seafood"? The answer "Mullet, but I think we are out of it". The fish special for the day was swai, a farm-raised river fish from SE Asia. Farm raised flounder? No thanks! The shrimp, although "from the gulf" are "not local". Oh well, we both ordered the small (12 oz?) Yeungling lager which was fresh tasting and cold. My wife, turned off by the seafood choices, ordered a bowl of black beans and rice which was surprisingly good. I ordered an oyster sandwich basket with sides of fries and cole slaw (no substitutions allowed on the sides). The oysters (4 medium sized) were soft (not crispy) fried and served on a hamburger bun with a wet piece of lettuce and a poor quality slice of tomato but I must admit that the sandwich, fries and cole slaw all tasted pretty good. read more

If you like overpriced, cold (when it should be hot) food, then by all means eat here. We are locals and have eaten here before without incident. This season brings a new menu, increased(by a lot) prices! And the service is non-existant. We had four dinners, two were fine, two had to be sent back because the meals were cold, not warm, but cold. We waited +10 minutes for the reheated meals, at which point the other two diners had almost finished. When asked to see a manager, they sent out our brand-new wait staff to resolve our complaints. Totally unacceptable and embarassing to our out of state visitors. To be fair, they did give us a % off the tab, which we took but we would not recommend this restaurant at this time. if you go, stick to a beer and the shrimp cocktail. We drove to the end of Pine Island and found this old home converted into a restaurant and small boutique. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to sit outside. We had to wait for about 10 minutes for a table to open up, but the outside view was worth it. The food is just basic. I had a tuna salad which included four egg slices and some tomatoes. My husband had a grilled grouper sandwich which was good, but pricey at 16.95 sandwich only, no sides. Still, if you're not in a hurry and wish to have a wonderful view, I can recommend this restaurant. read more

My friend and I recently rode our bicycles from the Pine Island city center to Capt'n Cons in Bokeelia on a beautiful sunny weekend afternoon. We were hoping to have a nice peaceful lunch. What we got instead was a super-sized serving of bad attitude from several of the wait staff. We are full time Pine Island residents and have been dining at Capt'n Cons for many years. After this experience we will not be returning. In that the food here has always been marginal at best, I now could not in good conscience recommend this "restaurant" to anyone, either local or visitor. read more

I could have done better by cooking shrimp purchased at Publix at home on the grill. It is a nice drive with a nice view at the end. A Mom and Pop type of restaurant located on Pine Island. The seafood chowder is a must have when you visit here. They have a blackboard located in the seating area with daily specials. Wait staff is very friendly. We had an issue with my Uncle's food, the fried flounder. Our server was quick to take the dish away and try to get another made immediately. Unfortunately, the second dish had the identical problem the flounder was still under cooked. But no harm done, my Uncle still had plenty of clams and he was still happy when we left. It was just great to have someone who really cared about our experience and tried to make it better. I would still recommend this place to anyone visiting Pine Island. Servers also always thank the guests when they leave which is something you don't hear everyday at other restaurants! read more

Some afternoons call for a nice, leisurely drive and a slow stroll out to Pine Island and then north to Bokeelia is just the ticket! Waiting for you at the 'end of the line' where the road ends is Capt'n Con's, home of the WORLD"S GREATEST Seafood Chowder! The restaurant is simple, without pretense and staffed by women who've been there for years! The chowder is hearty, thick, full of fresh ingredients from the sea and is served in generous portions! There are a host of great items on the menu and none will disappoint, but start with the Seafood Chowder!
