I recently visited Capy's restaurant in Moncks Corner for the first time last night, and while the food was a standout, a few other aspects left me with mixed feelings. We started with the happy hour calamari for just $10, and it was outstanding--perfectly fried, tender, and flavorful. The Caesar salad was another highlight, with homemade croutons that were absolutely amazing and added such a fresh, crunchy element. For entrées, we went with linguine with clam sauce and chicken penne with vodka sauce. Given that this is a small town like Moncks Corner, the entrée prices (ranging from $22-$35, with most around $25) felt way too high for the location and lack of atmosphere. Never again. Ordered by Door Dash for dinner on Saturday around 4pm. Had a few errands to run so ordered before we left. They canceled our order. Had to regroup when we got home and had a late dinner from Swig N Swine. This has been twice that they've canceled our order. Get it together Capy's. The atmosphere was calm, yet appealing. My server Mia was an outstanding server. Being in the Restaurant Industry for a minute now I have decided to start with reviews due to the nature of understanding from a manager and kitchen perspective and not a customer perspective, though it does a play a part. I myself have work every position in the kitchen from bottom to top so my standards for high quality food and cleanliness being major. In regard to Front of House, understanding the atmosphere plays a major break or make for the customer. From the decor all the way to the greeting is the first influence a customer will notice. Then it's the aromas, the music, the liveliness. Capy's Italian Restaurant had everything I could possibly look for. The decor didn't feel out of place, the music well fitted, and the sense of "family" did not disappoint. I selected precisely certain items off the menu and looked for preparation, presentation, taste, lastly flavor. Soup of the Day was a Vegetable Soup. Seems simple and basic, however everything from the broth and seasonings are astonishing. From seasonings, to flavor complexity, and aroma it was more than satisfying, above my initial judgement. Penne Alla Vodka Chicken or Shrimp - Shrimp. Capy's had another option which is chicken however I went with shrimp due to texture. Shrimp was beyond what I thought and the Vodka sauce was just right. Not only did it beat expectations but so did the pasta. Pasta is cheap however the moment leaves the kitchen it's now more expensive. It's a craft to cook and make and presentation being an art. The slight shrimp on the corner of the dish made it more exciting. The Penne being made to spec, not over or under but in the middle where it should be. Everything in this pasta dish was perfect. The Tuscan Style Grilled Tuna Steak was the best Tuna Steak I've had from restaurants. From the color and the aroma it beat everything I was judging. The vegetables were nicely seasoned and the roasted vegetables that paired with the steak was if it was meant to be. The care and passion was felt in everything. Calamari is unique, in the sense of how it's prepared and cooked to plating. It's an art. I've ate many before but this was a change, a good change. The Mariana being a compliment to the dish as well as the dressing of cheese sprinkled about. The breading is light but even throughout. Astonishing to say the least with the diversity this brought. The Caesar Salad was the biggest highlight in the round of dishes I chose. Just like the Vegetable soup, something basic and usually bland was revolutionized it felt. The greens being to spec, the dressing used being off the usual taste palate I'm use too but wonderful. I almost wanted a whole tossing bowl full of it that's how much I loved it. The croutons being to die for. Everything a Caesar should stand for was felt. To finish up, I chose cannoli's as a complement. The pastry dough was light but crunchy as it should be and the filling was sweet but not diabetic. Something small but tasteful way to end a great seating at Capy's! Overall Mia did a phenomenal job serving all the way from the starting to the ending. Kitchen did beyond excellent job and blew my expectations by a far margin. This Italian restaurant is a little treasure just outside of Charleston, SC in a beautiful place called Moncks Corner. We honestly did not know what to expect with the town having never been there, but even more so finding Capy's there too. We found it by accident, or maybe providence, after going to downtown Moncks Corner to look for a bookstore. Instead, we found a little park where vendors were starting to set up booths for a night market, and tight next door to the park is Capy's. It's not a huge place, but it's a good sign when there's a wait to be seated. And we were not disappointed. Great food, wonderful music and a nice atmosphere, and the staff were super friendly too! Food and service were much better than expected. Calamari was really good- light batter and not super chewy. Husband's veal parmigian was amazing. My shrimp and fettuccine was decent, but the sauce wasnt my favorite. That said impressed that all sauces made in house. Will definitely be back to try other things! To get started.... I read the reviews and looked at the stars. So far so good. However sitting at the bar and ordering food was an average experience. Aperol spritz was aperol and champagne and not: 3 parts of Prosecco D.O.C. (90 ml) 2 parts of Aperol (60 ml) 1 splash of soda (30 ml) 1 slice of orange. it was just aperol and Prosecco, a disappointment especially for the prices. Salads were actually quite good very fresh and great taste. the bread situation is interesting as I know the herbed oil has to have a high food cost, so an initial serving of four small slices of bread with a ton of herbs and oil must be eating into profit... it was delicious yet not enough bread. extra bread was a charge of 8.00. (if I remember correctly) but we were served so much oil and herbs that you'd need a whole loaf to enjoy it. If the oil is being tossed at every table after four slices it's a massive cost and waste. I think they could get this streamlined.(and provide more bread) bread is typically inexpensive for overall food cost. Bread situation 2/10 Cacio e pepe Was very wet, cheese was not incorporated fully. However flavor was good but the dish was below average. 3/10 Ribeye was decently cooked and props to the cook for searing both sides definitely a plus for me, flavor was good 7/10 med rare was my order and it was cooked properly. Chicken parm was definitely a good meal 8/10 no complaints sauce was very good not too sweet and it was quite enjoyable. It all was ruined when the server / bar tender started clipping her fingernails at the bar, only a few feet from where we were eating. immediately I wanted to leave. First off any Italian restaurant that doesn't place bread at the table when they seat you loses a star. The waiter was fantastic , unfortunately this day he was also taking orders, serving , bartender , clearing tables and probably washing dishes. The man was busy. The chicken parmigiana tasted like it was leftover grilled chicken with sauce and string cheese and not breaded. The sauce over the spaghetti was too sweet and watery. The soda seemed watered down also. I would have loved some grated cheese to go over the pasta but I didn't want to disturb this already overworked employee. We went here on a Wednesday afternoon for an early dinner. Place was quiet because of the odd timing but service was great. Portions were big! We both had Caesar salad with our meals and the dressing was delicious and house made. I had eggplant parm and it was delicious. My boyfriend has shrimp Alfredo. Happened to be in town for an event and needed to find a place to eat. Capy's is a family run, casual Italian restaurant that looked like a good option. We went in the late afternoon/early evening around happy hour - to which they had some happy hour specials! The place is pretty simple with a straightforward menu and your typical /expected italian specialty dishes. Since we went in a little before dinner timeframe and had a long drive ahead of us, we didn't want to eat too much, so we decided to order a variety of apps compared to entrees. From the menu and HH options, we ordered the aranchini, meatballs, calamari, antipasto platter, ceaser salad, chicken lemon orzo soup of the day, and tomato soup - which ended up being a whole heck of a lot of food!! First, I will say it was nice that they served bread and oil - without having to ask or for an additional cost, pretty quickly once you are there. (I feel like that has become less common these days like it once was) The olive oil was good, loaded with herbs. We did end up with A LOT of bread though, as it ended up coming with a lot of the apps. The Lemon Orzo soup was a hit - great flavor and consistency- not too lemony, just enough. And, Oh man, those meatballs - Excellent!!! They were the REAL deal and hugeee; I believe they came with three, but given the size it's really like sixish. I personally don't eat seafood so can't speak to the calamari, but the others were happy with it. The Aranchinis were also really good - slightly smaller than the meatballs but a good size. The sauce (or gravy) was very good as well. You can tell they make their sauce, meatballs, etc. The service was great. When we first arrived there weren't many people there yet. First italian restaurant I've ever been to that does not give you bread with your pasta. When you pay $25 for an entree, I would expect it. Atmosphere is cheap looking and windows and walls were dirty. Not cozy at all. Service was sub par. One waitress was clearly overwhelmed and we heard lots of complaints- one couple even walked out. 2 stars for the eggplant parm, but would not go back. read more

Came to the table several times to check on us. Had a nice chat with him. He told me about a special dessert they have at dinner. I was there for lunch. I told him I would have to come back for dinner so I could try it. He went to the kitchen and put in a special order for me. Not officially open but four of us wanted to see for ourselves. Quite busy. First let me say it was ok, the high points were the Service , bread, oil, and salads both house and Caesar. All of us enjoyed our meals but they did not have much in the way of spices, which is a plus for those who like to add their own. They may get around to offering Parmesan cheese or fresh pepper, but that didn't happen. They have a very limited menu during the early part of the week with more items near the weekend. All in all it was good but you can tell I 'm not raving. Will check them out in six eight months. read more

Very disappointed. After hearing all the rave reviews, we had to give it a try. We sat at a table that was filthy, and had to have it wiped down again. The wall next to us had chipped plaster and the dust from it was on the chair rail. I can't believe you have to buy bread if you want it on the table. Considering the price of meals, you would expect bread would be there. There were no condiments, save for salt and pepper. No crushed pepper, no grated cheese. The portions were large and we did appreciate that. Service was poor, given the place was not crowded. Again, employees on their phones. Had to go to the bar to get drink refills. Shoe Leather Parmesan--my favorite---UUGH The salad was tasty and large and so was the bread & oil dip. Problem is i came for the main course not the extras. The wife had Eggplant which was ok and not great. Mine ,however , was extremely disappointing. I ordered Veal Parmesan and it came to the table WAY OVERCOOKED and HARD to chew. I left 1/2 of it on the plate , (hopefully for the chef's dog) my first and last visit. For $27 greater care should have been in making this meal. If you like hard to chew , you have a place to go. With so few restaurants in Moncks Corner my daughter and I were anxious to try out Capy's, especially since it got such great reviews. The place was depressing. Horrid dark green plaster walls (which were cracked and peeling in spots), no artwork at all and filthy windows with not even curtains on them. There wasn't even a HINT of Italian. The music was obviously on a continuous disc and the same songs played over and over. The food was overpriced and boring. I could have bought a Stouffers frozen dinner and paid far less. And not even ONE crumb of Italian bread! What Italian restaurant doesn't have FRESH BAKED BREAD?? Found out they charge you for bread. When we got there the place was empty so waitress was ok. Two more sets of people came in and we were forgotten. Two gals behind us left because they were tired of waiting. When they complained, the waitress told them their food was sitting out waiting for her to deliver. Seriously??? Very sad. They are in a prime spot on Main Street and abused that privilege by pretending they are a restaurant. read more

Let me preface this review with saying I'm from Chicago, I know my Italian food. I had the BEST Caesar salad of my 39 years in existence here. The muscles? Outstanding. The calamari? The best ever - lightly battered, perfectly salted and seasoned. The blood orange margarita? OMG. I NEED A PITCHER!! I came in on a Thursday night cause I was wondering what all the hype was about. Even before I entered the restaurant there was an aroma of fresh sautéed garlic mixed with meat sauce. It pulled me in. With a delicious scent like that, I had to order the spaghetti and meat sauce. The flavors were unlike anything I have ever tasted. I can't even tell you which meat they put it(and it's probably a secret lol) but I tasted a mix between possible ground beef and veal, not to mention a bunch of different herbs and fresh ingredients I wouldn't be able to guess. But it was one of the best bolognese dishes I've ever had and I'm very picky about my meat sauce! The portions were great and the price was right. That Cappy guy also had a great sense of humor. My husband and I just had dinner here with another couple and we all throughly enjoyed everything we ate! The tomato sauce was so fresh and delicious, the arancini appetizer was so good, chicken orzo soup was tasty! All of our pasta dishes had such a homemade taste! I was there on a Tuesday, and the Tuesday special is ravioli with Bolognese sauce and I ate every bite even though I was stuffed because it was so great! We will certainly be back! Too much garlic. My wife had a cheese pizza a few weeks ago and had a take home portion. I tried a bite, but I couldn't taste the crust, sauce or cheese. It tasted like I was eating a head of garlic like and apple. PSA if you are on the Low FODMAP diet or are sensitive to garlic, use EXTREME caution eating here, EVERYTHING is garlic heavy.
