We visited Laura on happy hour pizza night and now I understand why it was packed. Delicious pizzas for just $10--ours had an incredible crust, perfectly blistered from the wood-fired oven. You can actually watch them making and firing the pizzas, which is a fun touch. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. Ambience is nice with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, a big wraparound bar, and an outside bar too. Little details like the water goblets on the table add a classy feel. Parking was tough--we had to park down the street because it was so crowded--but it was worth it. The rest of the menu looked tempting, everything is à la carte, and prices felt appropriate for a nice evening out. The food tasted very authentic Italian. We'll definitely be back! read more

We visited a couple of weekends ago for date night and had a good time. My husband ordered the Papparadelle Fungo and loved it. We didn't taste the nduja sausage coming through-- it was very mushroom heavy. That's okay for us because we do love mushrooms, but I wouldn't order it unless you are very in the mood for that kind of dish since the flavor was a bit one dimensional. I ordered the Agnolotti and loved it. Very well balanced, the citrus brightened the dish. No notes. We started with the burrata board and were a bit disappointed by it. While we enjoyed the prosciutto and olives very much, I was a bit turned off by the pita crackers it was served with. I would expect crostini or something a little more on point with the rustic theme of the restaurant. The burrata was on the dry side and I thought the other meat selections were just okay, especially paired with the parmesan on the board. We finished the evening with cannolis and espresso and enjoyed both immensely. I always appreciate a traditional ricotta filled cannoli. Our server was attentive and the hostess was warm to us. I thought the design of the inside main room reminded me a bit more of a cafe style, while I was expecting something a bit more romantic and cozy for a rustic Italian restaurant. We were quickly turned away by the host because Laura had too many reservations. While we were looking around at all the empty tables, the floor manager came over and made room for us at the bar. Bartender/server was attentive, polite, and acknowledged the initial awkwardness. The chicken parm was prepared like a cordon bleu, sauced up, and flavorful. Meatballs were small, but tasty. Unfortunately, the Bucatini lacked flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the bar vibe and clientele. When leaving, the dining room was less than half full. We'd encourage Laura to work *with guests and provide solutions; it's okay to ask if we're grabbing a quick (less than 45 minutes) dinner. read more

This is our second time at Laura's. The agnolotti was quite good and the sauce was bright and refreshing. Our favorite thing of the night. Octopus was good as usual. The foccacia was very fluffy and filling--served with whipped ricotta I believe. I think it's worth getting only to clean up the remaining sauce from any pasta you get. It wasn't worth it on its own. The last time we ordered the carne pizza which was fine but I didn't care too much about the texture. This time we got the one with squash and stuff on it...didn't care at all for this. same texture but it felt a bit TOO charred on the veggies that gave a bitter note. Atmosphere was good. Our server was quite attentive at first, but as it picked up, we didn't see them for a while. took a bit longer than expected to refill our waters or pay the bill. All in all, still good. We came with a group for Pizza night. It was my first visit, and I'll be back. The pizzas were delivered right out of the oven, and my Carne with anchovies was perfect. Hot, crispy, and fully loaded. My Happy Hour draft beer was $4, so I wished we could've stayed longer for refills. I got a cannoli for dessert with an espresso, a good ending to a good meal. Our server was excellent, attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. We were in the back room, and I loved it because it was quiet. We were a party of 8, and conversed throughout our meal, a real treat when most places's noise levels squelch cross table talking. Friends came in from out of town for a Naval School grad and were staying in Summerville, so we met up at Laura for dinner. We started with the Beef Carpaccio, and I loved the zip of lemon zest, pickled onions, and capers. We also ordered the bread, but it was, for us, just ok. For our meal my husband ordered the Pappardelle Fungo, which was delicious, hearty, and rich. I enjoyed my Agnolotti with the ricotta stuffed pasta and lots of asparagus and peas. This was my first time at Laura's after hearing so many good things about and I wish I came sooner! We had a large group of 7 on a Saturday night but they were able to seat us within 10 minutes! I ordered a Laura cocktail which was a light and refreshing limoncello with lemon sorbet. For my main I ordered the Laura lasagna and was blown away! It was so cheesy, rich and delicious! The braised beef they used inside took the lasagna to the next level and I will definitely be thinking about it for awhile! My hubby got the carne pizza and loved all the meats on top! For dessert my friend ordered the semi freddo with a toasted meringue on top that they do in front of you and a creamy biscoff inside. First time going to Laura's, and won't be the last. It was a bit of a surprise pulling into a parking spot here as the building looks a bit like a commercial industrial property. In fact, having passed it many times, that's what we assumed it was. The interior is a mix of Italian bistro and industrial (open ceiling, exposed joists and HVAC). The seatings are well spaced so it feels a bit more posh. Noise level was quite low, despite being near the "finishing station." That's the sign of a well done acoustical design. Reservation process was smooth and easy and we were seated immediately. Greeted promptly by service staff and our waiter Tom. Tom quickly introduced the restaurant, including a bit about its history, and our first introduction to the menu. We ordered wine and Tom returned to tell us about all the Antipasta (basically appetizer) items and the Primo and Secondo items, as well as the specials. My wife ordered the pear tart and I ordered the octopus. We ordered a chianti from their nicely rounded wine list, and it was excellent. It was also a good pour, something not always true at restaurants. The pear tart is a wonderful concoction that sort of defies easy characterization. It has a delicate crust, pears and a small salad like topping. Delicious with a cacophony of flavors, including prosciutto(!). The octopus consisted of two large arms on a bed of polenta. Not just polenta, but there is no doubt that it was the best polenta we've ever had. My wife, not usually a fan, had multiple helpings. Tom carefully paced our order so that the main course gave us some breathing room before the entree arrived. My wife ordered the Lasagna (a la Laura) and I took a chance on the whole roasted fish, which was sea bass. The lasagna was a fair sized portion and filled with cheesy goodness. The meat is not a traditional ground beef, but something more akin to a wonderfully tender beef roast (fall apart tender), accompanied by pork. The flavors were nicely married. The whole fish came in a wonderful presentation (picture enclosed). Tom graciously helped me to remove the flesh from the bones, and taught me about the cheek meat, which I would not have known about. In general sea bass is a wonderfully tasty item, and this was done perfectly with a delicious slightly sweet taste. I have to note here that the fingerling potatoes did not get short shrift, and had just a bit of firmness (no mushy overcooked potatoes here) with nicely balanced salt and rosemary. For desert my wife chose the blueberry/lavender gelato. This is an amazing combination with the blueberry flavor coming through first, followed by a long lasting lavender taste. This was something like a fine wine with different flavors emerging over time. I chose the sorbet, which was a nice strawberry mixture with no sugary taste. Very well executed. We spent roughly 2 hours on site, and there was no suggestion of a need to rush by the staff. Very pleasant experience. My only regret is that we didn't come here sooner. It is now definitively the best Italian restaurant we have experienced anywhere. The flavors and pairings are a bit different than other Italian restaurants, but incredibly well thought out. The prices are really quite competitive as well. Really there is nothing not to like. read more

My family thoroughly enjoyed Laura. It's right off of Main Street basically in downtown Summerville, yet we had never noticed it before we went looking for a decent Italian restaurant. Everyone thought the food was fantastic. Some of the best they've had. Definitely the best they've had out for Italian in the area. The service was very good. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. The restaurant was smaller than we thought it would be. We came in with two reservations. Because we couldn't find one for the amount of seats we needed; we initially sat at two different tables, but they were later able to accommodate moving us to one larger table together. The only reason I'm giving them four stars not five, is because of their lack of vegan options. I know they're a traditional Italian place that is built off of Chef Nico's grandma's recipes; however, places that I went in other states with a similar set up still had one vegan dish on the menu. All my family would definitely go back if they were craving more Italian food out. For myself, they would have to create a vegan option for me first. read more

Another 5 star meal at Laura. After having brunch here for Tarah's birthday Cheri said back in November she wanted to have her birthday dinner here. And everything was delicious. I love lemon so I was in heaven with everything I ordered! The Laura is a lemoncello, Prosecco, elderflower, and a floating ball of lemon sorbet cocktail. It's refreshing and just the right amount of booze. For an app I went with the beef carpaccio. Easily the best app out of everything I tried. Parmesan, confit lemon, fried capers, Caesar cream, pickled red onions, and radishes. I will order this every time I'm there! And for dinner I again headed down the citrus road!! Their agnolotti was a citrus ricotta filled pasta in what they called a brown butter sauce, but I felt it was more of a lemon sauce. Which I was in love with. I asked for a spoon so I could scoop up plenty of sauce with each bite. Ray was our server and he was amazing. And believe me when I say the place was packed! There wasn't an empty chair!!! From start to finish we had our drinks, order apps and our meals. Apps came out timely. Next round of drinks then dinner followed right behind. OMG!! I can't say enough about Laura and their whole staff. Phenomenal!! The food from start to finish was above and beyond exceptional. The meatball app and the octopus..I could eat my weight in. So delicious. The Caesar salad was delicious. I had the filet which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Two at our table had lasagna which they both loved. My other had had agnolotti pasta with scallops and I would kill to know how to make that sauce on that. Delicious. Another had the salmon special and it was on point. Another with us was gluten AND dairy free and she said her meal was delicious. And the cheesecake at the end...Lord a mercy!!!! All so good. I have been wanting to come here for multiple years at this point and glad I finally did! Our server was Tom and he was amazing. Started with the burrata board which had a really nice selection of meats and some cheeses, and the mussels. Order extra bread. Usually I cannot stand focaccia but this was outstanding and you will want it for the mussels which have an insanely tasty broth. Another server kept the water full all night which was appreciated. My main was the fruti di mari, my go to at an Italian restaurant, and my dinner partner had the lobster and gnocchi. The pasta on mine was super fresh and obviously made in house. The seafood was perfect. Her gnocchi was good, but gnocchi isn't my favorite; the lobster was well cooked but a touch small for a tail, but not super unreasonable for the price either. For a second we shared the scallops and after the feast there was no way we could have survived ordering separate seconds. Scallops were large and tender and seared just right. For dessert we did the semi Freddo and a cheesecake which I loved, and I had an espresso which was really good too. Overall it was a perfect night and the price was extraordinarily reasonable. Was craving Italian and came across Laura. Emily was my server and got me set up with beverages while I looked over the menu. Decided on the Laura Spring Salad and Spaghetti & Meatballs. The salad is delicious...huge variety of greens and veggies along with some chunks of salami and mortadella. I must say I am truly impressed with this place. So much so, I've dined there twice in one month. My first visit was for a friend's birthday and the second was for mine! Lol...Leo's! Anyway, Laura's has so much to choose from and there servings are huge. My guest and I each had a different meal, so we were able to sample each. Everything was delicious! They have great happy hour drinks for a very good price. The service was exceptional from the moment we walked in. Our serve, Jeremy, was SUPERB!! He went above and beyond to make our evening great! I apologize for not getting the name of our server on our second visit. She was great as well. I love the fact that she gave me a separate little square of the cheesecake with a candle for me to blow out without blowing on the slice we were sharing. We ended the evening with with the deliciously, rich and decadent strawberry shortcake cheesecake and it definitely hit the spot. Looking forward to dining here again soon. read more
